Kasab wants to stroll outside his cell

It is time for India to build high-security cells far away from cities. Arthur Road jail is not the place for the likes of Kasab.

Any number of high security military prisons available.

Some in Bombay itself.

These can certainly be used. Considering that it should be a short hop to the gallows for this freak who wants to smell good.

Kasab wants perfume and urdu news paper to read. Why on earth he needs perfume? I hope that next time he won't request for letting him go on date. Can the amount seized by police used for terror be used for buying newspaper? Though I hope its not fake.

Lawyer removed from Islam Gymkhana for defending Kasab
Shortly after being criticised by the Shia community for defending Mumbai terror accused Mohammed Ajmal Amir Kasab, lawyer Abbas Kazmi has been removed as a trustee from the prestigious Islam Gymkhana on the same ground.

Kazmi's appointment as a trustee of Islam Gymkhana was terminated this week on the ground that defending a terrorist was against the essence of Islam.

This is the second instance where Kazmi has been criticised after he took up Kasab's case. A few days back, Muslim Ulemas, clerics and scholars had said that "by calling himself a Shia community member, Kazmi has given an impression that he is the leader of Shias".

how very chankian, by having a shia defend a sunni and then ensuring his conviction... the great shia-sunni war can be sponsored! :)

Dangerous Argument
Ansari’s lawyer Shahid Azmi on Monday contested the charge of “waging war against the government of India,” an offence under Section 121 of the Indian Penal Code. He referred to that part of Ajmal’s confession where he speaks of the capture of Kashmir as the motive behind the attacks.

Mr. Azmi argued that under Section 18 of the IPC, the definition of India excluded Jammu and Kashmir. Thus, the motive of Kashmir’s liberation could not be classified under Section 121. Moreover, the term “government of India” was repealed from the Section in 1937. He said that as per the illustrations of the Section, it applied only to citizens.

Countering Mr. Azmi’s contention, Mr. Nikam told the media that although the IPC excluded J&K, that did not mean it was not an integral part of India. “The fact that India was chosen as a target, justified the charge of waging war. We have to look at the cumulative effect of the attacks,” he said.

Pakistani police file chargesheet against the five accused
Pakistani police on Monday submitted to an anti-terrorism court the "challan" with evidence against five Lashkar-e-Taiba operatives arrested on suspicion of involvement in the Mumbai attacks.

The challan was submitted to anti-terror judge Sakhi Muhammad Kahut, who is hearing the case related to the five LeT operatives in the high-security Adiala Jail in the garrison city of Rawalpindi. The hearings are being conducted in-camera.

Shahbaz Rajput, the counsel for LeT operatives Zakiur Rehman Lakhvi, Zarar Shah, Hamad Amin Sadiq, Abu al Qama and Shahid Jameel Riaz, said Justice Kahut had set May 12 as the next date of hearing for the case.

With the submission of the challan and evidence on Tuesday, the charges against the five suspects are expected to be framed at the next hearing.

Wow. Shahid Azmi has given an impressive display of Lahori Logic. Last I checked, Kasab killed people in Mumbai. His intention might have been to liberate Iceland, but he killed in Mumbai. Doesnt that amount to waging war against India ?

The charge of waging war against the state carries a death penalty, nothing less. All these heroes don't want to be tried under this charge.

Hence the verbal calisthenics, kasab is a juvenile, IPC doesn't apply, kashmir not India, yadda yadda.

For Kalashnikov kasab, a warm thought to keep him company in his lonely barracks, there is the delightful irony of a Indian shia (his lawyer Abbas Kazmi) leading kasab (a paki sunni) to the gallows.

Priceless. :D

jinnah must be turning over in his grave.

Kasab charged with waging war on India
6 May 2009

In court documents, Kasab gave his full name as Mohammed Ajmal Mohammed Amir Kasab and stated he was a labourer from Faridkot in Pakistani Punjab.

He signed the papers, saying that he understood the charges against him.

Gaurav_S ji,

First jetboat for marine police on its way to Mundra

Not sure of the utility of such a vessel.

It seems to have a total endurance of 2.5 hours before it comes to a dead halt unless it carries more fuel in drums. It weighs a bomb! 12 tons
Sounds very much like an interceptor boat that has to be launched on very specific and confirmed hard intelligence.

Can't imagine it being towed up and down the coast, looking for a suitable launch site, for all to see and to alert future kasabs.

IMHO, the 26/11 case(in Pak) is a write off with everyone involved going scott free and being treated to a stay in ISI safehouses as a add-on...

The Pakis manage to pull it off yet again.

Kasab's trial could drag on for 5 years
Mumbai: Special public prosecutor Ujjwal Nikam had said the 26/11 trial would be wrapped up in four to five months. Now he says it could drag on for at least five years with Abbas Kazmi, lawyer for Mohammed Ajmal Amir Kasab, refusing to admit any of the documents submitted by the prosecution.

Terror-groups-may-use-minors-Nikam
UMBAI: The trial of Ajmal Amir Kasab, the lone terrorist caught in the November 26 attacks, has thrown up the possibility of minors being used
for terror attacks and time has come for the country to strengthen the Juvenile Justice Act to deal with such impending menace, special public prosecutor Ujjwal Nikam has said.

After Kasab unsuccessfully attempted to plead that he was a juvenile, a possibility arises that terror groups might use minors to carry out suicide attacks, he warned.

"Juvenile offenders are likely to infiltrate into the country... time has come to change the archaic Juvenile Justice Act to ensure that terror suspect below the age of 18 should be tried under the stringent laws, Nikam said in an interactive session with journalists.

Recently, the Act was amended to increase the age of juvenile from 16 to 18 years. Even that would not suffice for a juvenile terrorist as there was no provision under the Act to award rigorous imprisonment like death penalty, Nikam said.

A juvenile convict cannot be tried in a regular court but only before a juvenile authority which does not award punishment even if guilt is proved, said Nikam.

Nikam said similar to Kasab, who had attempted to prove himself to be a juvenile to escape punishment taking advantage of the lenient act, "Many young people are being brainwashed and used by terror groups and our existing laws are inadequate," Nikam said.

Nikam justified the need for examining FBI officials in Kasab trial saying it would help them provide the evidence in regard to phone calls made to Karachi during the attacks.

The public prosecutor also favoured setting up of special courts to try terror cases just as was done in the case of 1993 Mumbai serial bomb blasts for speedy disposal.

"There is a requirement that an anti-terror court should handle only one case. As of now, the condition is such that most anti-terror courts are handling multiple cases which delays the judgement", Nikam said.

Nikam, however, opposed holding summary trials saying that trials should be held in a transparent manner giving a fair opportunity to an accused to defend himself.

Kasab, a resident of Faridkot in Pakistan, and two other alleged Indian Lashkar-e-Toiba operatives are facing trial for their alleged involvement in Mumbai terror attacks that killed more than 160 persons and injured 234.

Nikam said police had accumulated sufficient evidence against all the three accused. "In the case of Faheem Ansari and Sabauddin Ahmed, there were no confessions and we will be relying purely on evidence obtained to prove their guilt".

Sharing his thoughts on the behaviour of Kasab during the trial, which began on Friday, Nikam said he is not only been trained in terror warfare but also given training to escape the clutches of law by "dishonest" means.

"Kasab said his age was 21 years to the jailor and doctor who examined him after his arrest but in the court he pleaded he was 17," he added.
Very important point, IMHO...

This farce of a trial will expose all the current loopholes in our laws making it easier for upcoming pigs to plan accordingly. :x

Judge raps Kasab for laughing at witness
A key witness on Monday identified two AK-47 rifles allegedly used by Pakistani gunman Mohammed Ajmal Amir Kasab and his accomplice Abu Ismael to kill people in Mumbai on November 26.

When the weapons were being identified in the special court, Kasab kept laughing at the witness and shook his head indicating that the weapons did not belong to him.

This invited the wrath of Judge M L Tahaliyani, who warned Kasab to behave properly in the court. The judge told him that all the time he was seen laughing.

"Keep away this casual attitude and show some seriousness," the judge said.

While we are keenly watching and debating the court proceedings in India, Pakistan has announced the completion of probe from its side
Mumbai terror attack probe completed, NA committee told

ISLAMABAD: Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) Director General Tariq Khosa on Monday told the National Assembly Standing Committee on Interior that the probe into the Mumbai attacks has been completed.

He said the government had arrested five accused, whereas India had arrested only two people so far. {Pakistan's India obsession takes amusing proportions} Khosa said the government would submit challans of the five accused in the court soon. To a question, he said the FIA was not taking assistance from any foreign agency in this regard. {Why didn't he add "while India took the help of the US FBI" ?} Praising the performance of the agency, the committee asked Khosa to further intensify the monitoring of exit and entry points across the country to curb illegal immigration and human trafficking.
