Americans threatening China now

https://www.cnbc.com/2022/02/04/us-warn ... tions.html

The United States warned Chinese firms on Thursday they would face consequences if they sought to evade any export controls imposed on Moscow in the event of Russia invading Ukraine.
U.S. State Department spokesman Ned Price made the remark after China’s Foreign Ministry said China and Russia had coordinated their positions on Ukraine during a meeting between their foreign ministers in Beijing on Thursday.
Price said Russia should know that a closer relationship with Beijing would not make up for the consequences imposed in response to an invasion.

The US is going in for the kill now realizing that Russia is just a paper tiger.

Don’t know why Russians agreed to a ceasefire when MANPADs are coming in by the several hundred each day. Some estimates are total MANPADs are over 17,000 with Ukrainian militia and regular army. The longer this goes, the worse it gets. The Russian divisions from the south hasn’t linked up with the east and north yet. This is a good example of how poor logistics will cause a military loss.

China has been stealing sensitive tech from US for a long long time. Its almost like US allows them to steal willingly to allow for its rise. These threats are not worth the paper on which its printed.

Wrong comparison. Russian forces had 16-17 days across less than 400 km.

In that many days, IA would be in Kabul.

https://www.janes.com/defence-news/news ... operations

Russia has established an unprecedented command-and-control (C2) structure to co-ordinate its multipronged invasion of Ukraine.

For the first time it is simultaneously running a major operation through the headquarters of four military districts, which are the equivalent of four-star headquarters in Western military organisations. These new command arrangements have significantly contributed to the slow rate of advance of the Russian forces in the opening phase of the war, according to senior Western intelligence sources.

the sheer scale of the operation was having an impact on the ability of the Russian military to pull together their forces into a coherent operation, an issue that is highlighted by the stalling of its armoured column to the northwest of Kyiv. “It is part of the problem and this is dislocating their command-and-control,” he said.

Vaccine Delivery Canceled to Country That Did Not Condemn Russia
Among the abstaining members was the South Asian country of Bangladesh. As a result of that decision, Lithuania reversed a previous decision from earlier in the week to send over 440,000 doses of COVID-19 vaccines to Bangladesh, according to a report from Lithuanian National Radio and Television (LRT). This was confirmed to LRT by a spokesperson for Lithuanian prime minister Ingrida Šimonytė.

Those manpad don’t make that big of diff for Ukraine they need med range SAMs and ACs more than more Manpads, they already have a large amount of igla (last couple shoot down where using igla not stinger) and they managed to capture more Igla from Russian forces including the newer Verba Manpad.

Russian units in other hand do need supplies and couple day ceasefire will allow them to be resupplied especially with train link established. However it is race against time with spring coming even tanks will have tough time traversing the mud after the thaw.

Updating my list of the sanctions imposed by US and the West on Russia. New additions in blue. In particular there’s a massive list of western companies that has imposed bans, compiled by the Yale Chief Executive Leadership Institute
Baikul wrote:
Military:

1. Massive influx of weapons by western nations - openly, in great detail (one example is the 20,000 Javelins being sent to Ukraine, which by themselves are enough to take out Russia’s entire arsenal of some 13,000 tanks.

2. An act hard to recall in recent memory, Western governments almost encouraging their non military citizens to pick up arms and fight (unprecedented) in Ukraine

3. Stunning reversal of national policies earlier laid down in stone: Germany with its traumatic past is supplying weapons and will make huge investment in its military

4. Committing new ground forces to NATO allies (example - Great Britain commits 1000 troops to Estonia and doubles its presence, besides upping aggressive air and naval presence)

Targeting of individuals and political institutions:

1. Some 40- 50 Individuals around Putin and key executives targeted individually (Sergei Lavrov, Sergei Shoigu, Valery Gerasimo, Kirill Shamalov, and so on) to freeze their assets and impose a travel ban.

2. EU has also restricted wealthy Russians’ access to UK banks, including a £50,000 limit on bank account

3. Russian parliament: The EU imposed sanctions on 351 members of the Russian Duma, placing them on a travel ban and asset freeze list

4. Diplomats, Russian officials and business people will no longer be able to benefit from visa facilitation provisions, which allow privileged access to the EU.

Banks and financial services

1. Russian Central Bank to be prevented from deploying its international reserves

2. SWIFT: Expulsion form an international system that will have a staggering financial impact

3. The top 8-10 Russian banks accounting for 80 percent and up of Russians global financial transactions have been cut off ( frozen assets, Ban on on issuing bonds, shares or loans in the EU for refinancing and equity restriction on major players)

Other Individual Companies:

1. Russian airline Aeroflot will be banned from UK airspace

2. Bans on:
- Rostec, Russia’s largest defence company,
- Uralvagonzavod, the world’s largest tank manufacturer
- Tactical Missile Corporation, a major supplier of air and seaborne missiles,
- United Aircraft Corporation, a Russian holding company that supplies military aircraft and includes all major Russian aircraft manufacturers,
- United Shipbuilding Corporation, largest shipbuilding company in Russia, which has constructed key Russian warships.

3. American/ Western companies that have sipped activities in Russia

Apple product sales
Nike online sales
Dell product sales
FedEx shipments
UPS shipments
GM shipments
Toyota to suspend Russian car production, vehicle imports
Harley-Davidson shipments
Boeing pilot training
Samsung Elec shipments to Russia suspended
Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Co. (TSMC) worlds biggest contract chipmaker suspends export of cutting edge tech
Visa network access
Mastercard network access
MacDonalds closes 850 stores
YUM! the owner of Kentucky Fried Chicken, Taco Bell, and Pizza hut suspends all future investments and development in Russia.

The ceasefire was to evacuate Indian students from conflict areas and was agreed to by both countries.
It was after direct contact by NaMo.
Thanks to this even a wounded student was evacuated on a stretcher.
About 99% are out.

Hope its understood the ceasefire was for the Indian students who went to Ukraine and did not get out even when given advance warning.

Yes the IR missiles in fact perform better in the night (older manpads like older gen igla have a tendency to lock on to sun more than target if you remember Israeli airliner which was targeted) but the main challenge is operator visibility of incoming plane which without night vision is not possible.

I do know Ukr do have some night vision googles for their spec ops and likely also have some night vision scope for their Manpads but probably not to a large extent. I suspect it is one of reasons Su-34 are being used more in night time bombing runs now.

U.S. overlooking Delhi’s neutrality on Ukraine https://time.com/6154734/india-ukraine/

By DEBASISH ROY CHOWDHURY

Debasish Roy Chowdhury is the co-author of To Kill A Democracy: India’s Passage to Despotism

Geopolitical pressure not to ruffle Russia has since increased manifold because of China’s rise. India and China share a disputed border over which they fought a war in 1962. A carefully calibrated détente has since normalized relations, but has come under fresh strain and border flare-ups, at times lethal, have become frequent of late.

As India’s power asymmetry with China has increased over the years, and China has become more assertive in projecting its ascent, India’s insecurity has increased. In a complete reversal of its earlier policy of non-alignment, it has progressively tightened its embrace of America as a distant ally to hedge against its near foe. China, on its part, has come to see India as part of the U.S. design to encircle it.

In Russia’s cordial relations with China, India also sees a moderating influence on, and a bridge with, China to manage their many differences. A strategic relationship with Russia also prevents Moscow from drifting entirely toward Beijing, which would be a disaster for India. Much to the horror of Indian policymakers, this is exactly what the wholesale sanctions on Russia may be achieving as they push Russia into a corner. The last thing India would want to do at this very moment is to abandon Russia and create even more difficulties for itself by strengthening a Sino-Russian entente.

So, it’s a no-brainer for Modi to sit this one out. Compared to the steep risks of joining the chorus against Putin, inaction entails little cost. The U.S. will tend to overlook India’s hedging for the same reason it ignores India’s dangerous descent into illiberalism: it’s too important an ally. After all, in Modi, the U.S. has an Indian leader with both the inclination and the ability to advance the strategic and economic partnership further than ever before.

That’s why, even as India draws criticism from U.S. lawmakers for not taking a clear stance against Russia, the Biden administration itself refrains from pulling it up. The State Department reportedly recalled a strongly worded cable to U.S. diplomats that asked them to take to task their counterparts from India and the UAE over their position on Ukraine.

Just as India can’t afford to lose Russia, the U.S. can’t afford to lose India. They need each other, to face off against the ultimate challenger to America’s global dominance, which is China. Russia neither has the ambition nor the capacity to mount such a challenge. India’s condemnation of Russia will make little material difference to isolating Moscow. But its value in containing China is another matter. That is why India, along with Australia and Japan, is part of the U.S.-led, four-nation Quadrilateral Security Dialogue, or Quad, aimed as a regional counterweight to China.

Russia may have taken center stage in American threat perception for the moment—in his State of the Union Speech, President Joe Biden mentioned Russia 18 times and China just twice—but this crisis is part of a much bigger contest that has China at its heart. A contest that makes India indispensable for the U.S. when the focus returns to China.

 So in the same week "Russia took center stage" but "India is on notice for their UN vote" because "India needs US" and "china is higher priority". Some intense messaging going on here. If hubris wore a three-piece suit, it would be a high-ranking official in the US state departmemnt.

In Nod To Russia, Ukraine Says No Longer Insisting On NATO Membership
President Volodymyr Zelensky said he is no longer pressing for NATO membership for Ukraine, a delicate issue that was one of Russia's stated reasons for invading its pro-Western neighbor.

In another apparent nod aimed at placating Moscow, Zelensky said he is open to "compromise" on the status of two breakaway pro-Russian territories that President Vladimir Putin recognized as independent just before unleashing the invasion on February 24.

"I have cooled down regarding this question a long time ago after we understood that ... NATO is not prepared to accept Ukraine," Zelensky said in an interview aired Monday night on ABC News.

"The alliance is afraid of controversial things, and confrontation with Russia," the president added.

Referring to NATO membership, Zelensky said through an interpreter that he does not want to be president of a "country which is begging something on its knees."

Russia has said it does not want neighboring Ukraine to join NATO, the transatlantic alliance created at the start of the Cold War to protect Europe from the Soviet Union.

Ideally you'd have expected the Russians to concentrate on high altitude precision strikes which would keep their aircraft well out of MANPAD range. But we have seen a lot of low level bombing runs from Su-25's and Su-34's which led to the losses. Two possible reasons for this. One being the Russians could not or did not do adequate SEAD and Ukraine's Buk/Tor/S300's are mostly still alive so flying high is dangerous. And second which I believe more likely is a lack of enough PGM's and PGM capable platforms. I mean they are probably the only major airforce which does not have a modern targeting pod in service.

Following the Ukraine ops, I think the Pentagon (and in general, Western defence establishments) will actually have a more difficult time portraying the military threat from Russia as some sort of monstrous, overwhelming bogeyman that demands sky-high military spending to keep up with. In conventional terms, it seems that even a non-NATO Ukraine can impose severe costs on an invading Russian military in a conventional setting... suggesting that NATO itself could easily handle any non-nuclear threat from Russia.

As it progresses, this war might actually refocus the Western defence establishments' attention on the greater threat from China as a near-peer competitor (even though at first, it seemed that Putin's action would cement Russia at the top of their threat perception).

Meanwhile, just as the Russians have proved to be less than formidable as a conventional military force, the West has found itself much less successful than expected in terms of diplomatic influence and soft power.

The US-led camp are making loud claims about how devastating their sanctions against Russia will prove to be-- but in fact, Russia has worked out ways in advance to sidestep most ill-effects of the sanctions, while their impact on Western nations themselves will prove to be very uncomfortable to say the least.

It really, REALLY irks the US how many countries have refused to even condemn Russia in a symbolic setting like the UNGA vote. Between India, China, Bangladesh, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Iraq, and Iran-- about half the population of the planet is not on board. Add in a few more like Brazil, Mexico, South Africa, KSA, UAE, Indonesia and others (when it comes to eschewing sanctions against Russia) and the Western camp has shrunk to a global minority.

India is particularly sought after, not only because there is no QUAD without India, but because QUAD is effectively neutered-- shut out of the heartland-- if India goes to the opposite camp. The Western camp's greatest fear is that PRC and India will somehow reach a stable agreement on outstanding border issues and pursue a mutually beneficial modus vivendi with each other. Such a development would be the first step towards the "Fortress Asia" paradigm that I first wrote about on BRF about 12 years ago:

Ah but that can happen only if US lawmakers and corporates haven't sold themselves out to Chinese money and they will do an honest assessment of the situation. What is the chance of that?

Leaving this here as an example of how little you can trust what you see in this conflict.

Please don't forget to read this BBBIIIIGGG Update.

Russia claims Ukraine is destroying evidence of US-funded BIOWEAPONS programme.

(1/5)

As Russian troops entered Ukraine, the government in Kiev ordered the “emergency destruction” of pathogens including plague and anthrax at US-funded laboratories near the Russian border, the Ministry of Defense in Moscow claimed on Sunday.

(2/5)

Earlier rumors that the Russian military was targeting US-run biolabs were written off as conspiracy theories, but the ministry has promised to back up its claims with documents.

(3/5)

“We have received documentation from employees of Ukrainian biolaboratories on the emergency destruction on February 24 of especially dangerous pathogens of plague, anthrax, tularemia, cholera and other deadly diseases,” read a statement from the ministry.

So..is finally World is nearing to know Actual Birthplace of Chinese Virus?

Yes..it's SAID to be US Funded Biolabs in Ukraine from where it was Transferred to Wuhan Lab in China.

And..Funding to Ukraine Labs & Wuhan Lab was done by None Other Than...BARRACK OBAMA in 2014

ok, stop spreading this mis-information that wuhan virus is from Ukraine. You are merely following an opposite propaganda and it doesn't help.

Difficult to say. For all that China's lobbyists wield outsize influence in Washington and on Wall Street, there are definitely many strident China-Hawks in the US Congress and Senate, and the previous Presidential administration at least was full of them. The current administration doesn't seem to know if it's coming or going, but my bet is that this November, they will be relegated to lame-duck land. Meaning, any ideological proclivities of theirs are unlikely to have lasting influence on Washington.

Problem is not just the lobbyists. Russia has been branded the villain in US MSM for so long. They have blamed Russia for every problem including Trump's election. Meanwhile they were very quick to try and shut down anyone even wondering aloud whether Covid leaked from a Chinese lab, branding them all racists. And every corporate giant from Disney to the NBA has sold themselves at the altar of the Chinese market, willing to accept any type of censorship that the CCP demands and seem fine with benefitting from Uyghur slave labor too. No threat of sanctions there.

At the end of the day only money talks in the US of A. The Chinese coffers are overflowing. Meanwhile Putin just instituted capital controls because the Ruble is in free fall.
