The DNA report have used the word "urges", where as Malayalam media reported that Chandy used the word "Nirdhesham" (meaning "instructions", which are generally given from a senior rank to a junior ). The Malayalam media too is not highlighting the evacuation in its entirety, and my gut feeling is that the media in Kerala just does not want to show-case BJP Govt. or Modi in any positive light.

Today again Kerala CM, has "urged" Modi to route all flights via Kochi International Airport. Again, the pattern seems to be asking more and more. If this is not conveyed already in a diplomatic fashion GoI should clearly tell the GoKL that its duty ends when Indian citizens touch Indian soil. The respective state governments also have to do some honest day's job, and work on taking their people to their homes. Even when the evacuation of Malayali nurses happened from Egypt, the average Keralaite attitude was that they were doing some big favour by coming back. This bluff needs to be called, once and for all.

In one NDTV show, Shashi Tharoor also asked for the same saying it is becoming difficult to get flight/train tickets to so many people at such a short notice from Mumbai to Kochi and MEA Spokesperson Akbaruddin told him that flights are arranged to Kochi.

Its becoming very evident that C-system is nothing but Secular Pakis. They keep begging in the name of demanding. Hope nation is noticing this.

How tricky the situation on the ground is can be judged by the interview with Syed Akbaruddin, the MEA spokesperson on NDTV a couple of days ago. He said (paraphrasing) that while GOI had reached an agreement with the defacto authorities (the Saudis) on the evacuation, the dejure authorities (the Houthis) had to also approve because neither side really controlled the territory and each side could put obstacles in the evacuation. And each side presumably would not like GOI to talk to the other!!

This is also because GoKL are such a big bunch of jokers who cannot get any thing done by themselves. Indian Railways is still a GoI out fit. Using the good will and the babu network, they can still get a few special trains run. But that involves good PR, networking and planning skills. Which the elected representatives of 100% literate state seems to lack. So then follow the usual routine, put more work on the already hard working folks and then land up for the photo-ops sessions.

Seeing the pathetic show by the Govt. of Kerala and the politicians of the place in general (including the opposition - the commies), the easy way is to charge the respective states a part of the expenses. For all these people who are coming in, their native state (in India) can be easily identified. Let the respective state governments pay up a part of the costs incurred. If a state's CM can demand flights to be routed in a specific way, he can also jolly well pay for the expenses incurred in evacuating a large number of people from his state .

We probably shouldn't send the current set of evacuees a bill, as they wouldn't be expecting it. But for future situations it would be better to plan ahead and collect some sort of "instability insurance deposit " at embarkation time, and the interest on the deposit can be used as part of a premium for an insurance policy which will pay for part of the costs of repatriation if it should be needed. Otherwise the deposit can be refunded at the time of returning.

That may not pay for the full cost, but at least people should understand that there is a rupee cost as well as a cost in risk to personnel involved in such heroics. Otherwise they will just take it for granted. If they just came home in the normal way, they would have had to pay for a plane ticket. They should at least be asked to pay that much.

India's decision to make Djibouti the operation's hub served the authorities well.People are being taken out of Aden, Sana'a, Al Hodeida and Al Mulala, ferried to Djibouti and thence by Air India planes and IAF C-17 Globemaster aircraft. Djibouti is a port and INS Mumbai, INS Sumitra and INS Tarkash are functioning there.

Thanks for staring this thread, SwamiG ji! Kudos to Gen. V.K.Singh for what seems to be a very smooth run operation despite the unknowns and the complexities involved. Very easily India's most complex rescue operation till date. While V.K.Singh might jump off the gun in passing some comments, he lives up to his reputation as an operational hands-on leader. Very impressive. If he delivers at the same high level of efficiency in building out our NE border infrastructure, we can sleep better vis a vis Cheen.

I wonder what will be the rules of engagement for the IN ships? Are they allowed to fire back if they come under fire?

Good that India is evacuating US citizens if needed. It is the right thing to do.

^^That's right. And that's all there is to it. I'm absolutely 100% certain they would do the same if we were in a similar position and asked them to do so. This is how civilised countries behave. We don't need any kudos for it, but we don't need any brickbats either.

If there is anything shameful in all this it is the way our incompetent media has made such a hash out of it. Neither professional ethics, nor even a consideration for the national interest. More like the fifth column than the fourth estate.

No one should be charged for the evacuation.

This is a great job by our Govt. and Armed forces machinery.

I feel sorry for the people (especially Mallu Birathers and sisters) who lost their income and possibly also lost property because $hit hit the fan in Yemen.
