^^What type of sentence does this crime normally carry? Anything short of execution or life behind bars isn't good enough in my book.

No neither life nor execution - there has been strong demand for some time for harsher penalties. Moreover, one must consider if a certain community is not being targeted unfairly, whether there were developmental issues while he was growing up, whether poverty was a cause, whether saffron excesses triggered legitimate counter-reaction, whether 2002 and 1993 caused such trauma that this reaction happened. Moreover, since similar crimes happen from other communities this should be looked at with greater kindness. There was very little hesitation to hang a certain Chatterjee convicted for assaulting and killing a young girl. He came from the right community for quick action.

There is a post somewhere on the board which gives an intro on a 4 player game (India, TSP, USA and LeT). Need to get D-co in instead of LeT and UQ in and model it as a 5 player game.

If you add D-company - you will need to add in GCC. That brings in Somalia, and the sub-Saharan Islamist movement. In our models, not including GCC is perhaps a crucial lapse. Moreover that player should not be modelled along the lines preached by the current GOI or spokespersons affiliated to that official line.

GCC should be modeled as looking at strategic depth in India for their ME operations, relying on the stranglehold that Sunni/Deobandi and increasingly Saudi linked Islamism in North and west arc of India, has on Indian state power and politics.

Hindu reports:

NCTC operational from March 1, 2012
Counter-terror body to be operational from March 1
Vinay Kumar
In a step aimed at strengthening various counter-terrorism measures, the government has decided to operationalise the ambitious National Counter-Terrorism Centre (NCTC) from March 1.

A pet project of Union Home Minister P. Chidambaram, NCTC got the approval from the Cabinet Committee on Security (CCS) three weeks ago. The operations division of the counter-terrorism body has been given powers to arrest and carry out searches under Section 43 (A) of the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act, 1967.

Initially, the NCTC will be located in the Intelligence Bureau and headed by a director, who will be an officer in the rank of additional director, IB. It will have three units - gathering intelligence, analysis of intelligence and carrying out operations - and each of these divisions would be headed by a joint director of Intelligence Bureau.

The NCTC will have the power to requisition services of the elite National Security Guard (NSG), according to the official order. It will integrate intelligence pertaining to terrorism; analyse the same; pursue or mandate other agencies to pursue the different leads; and coordinate with the existing agencies for an effective response.

It will also maintain a comprehensive data base of terrorists and their associates, friends, families, and supporters; of terrorist modules and gangs; and of all information pertaining to terrorists.

“NCTC will prescribe counter-terrorism priorities for each stakeholder and ensure that all agencies have access to and receive source intelligence support that is necessary to execute counter terrorism plans and accomplish their assigned tasks,’’ the order said. It will also prepare daily threat assessment reviews and disseminate them to the appropriate levels in the Central government and to the State governments.

The GoM that reviewed the internal security system in the aftermath of the Kargil conflict had recommended the establishment of a Multi-Agency Centre (MAC) in the Intelligence Bureau, which was set up in 2001 and its functions, powers and duties were prescribed in 2008. :(

The Second Administrative Reforms Commission had in 2008 recommended that MAC should be converted into NCTC with personnel drawn from different intelligence and security agencies. A review of the current architecture of counter terrorism also revealed several gaps and deficiencies and the need was felt for a single of control and coordination of all counter terrorism measures.

“The NCTC will fulfil this need also ensure that it does not duplicate the roles of other agencies and work through the existing agencies in the country,’’ official sources said.

Which agency will provide manpower for this "operations wing" since IB doesn't have its own armed wing like the paramilitaries for CIA or SFF for RAW?

Hope it works better than the NIA with its dismal track record.

Rediff reports on the whole evangelical issue. Very interesting.

Abuse of Hindu Gods cause for backlash in Karnataka
In Karnataka there has been a waging battle over the attacks on Churches. Recently there was also a report which claimed that Karnataka is the number one rogue state for Christians as there have been over a 1000 attacks on both Christians and Churches.

The question now is whether this figure is exaggerated and is being put out for some ulterior motive. It is an exaggerated figure says P N Benjamin, who is the member of the Minorities Commission and Coordinator of the Bangalore Initiative for Religious Dialogue (BIRD). A question that Benjamin asks is that if Karnataka is really the number one rogue state for Christians then why is it that not a single Christian fled the state. In this interview with rediff.com, Benjamin takes us through the entire issue while stating that merely exaggerating figures for an ulterior motive is not the way out.

Some Christians claim that there have been over a 1000 attack on Churches and Karnataka has become the number one rogue state for them? Is this correct?

It is not correct. It is just exaggeration. I feel there are a handful of attacks which were instigated by some fringe Christian groups.

Why do you think it is being exaggerated?

I am not saying all Christians do this. Yes there is a fringe group which involves itself in such activities. They get a lot of money especially from the American Penta Coastal churches for this. The more they exaggerate the better for them. I have personally gone into many such cases and realised that most of them have been blown out of proportion and internationalised by a handful of leaders from the Christian community and by unscrupulous politicians. They are using ordinary Christians as pawns in their hands for their narrow selfish ends.

Why do you think the Hindus are so upset with the Christians? Why has this issue blown out of control?

For one there is a BJP government in Karnataka and it is aimed at destablising the government. Secondly there are a lot of fringe groups that have emerged which do not report either to the Catholic or Protestant Church. Small churches are being formed in houses at a very quick pace. These are the persons who have broken away from the main line churches. They sit and abuse Hindu Gods and this has not been taken too kindly by the Hindus and hence the agitation. These fringe groups in fact have gone uncontrolled and this is a danger in the making.

Tell us about the conversions that are taking place. Is the Church involved in this?

I would not say that the Church is involved in conversions. In fact both the Catholic and Protestant Churches are not involved in this. Again it is these fringe groups- the Penta Coastals among others who are involved in this. There is a report which states that nearly Rs 10000 crore has landed here for the purpose of such activities. Recently we sent a team to Suratkal near Mangalore. We noticed that some poor people had been given a handful of money to convert. They are just given money and later not taken care of.

So what is the exact version regarding large scale conversions?

There are no large scale conversions happening. As I said the Church does not do this. It is those small elements. There are a handful of people who have been converted. But these people send reports to donor agencies stating that large chunks of people have been converted for the want of more funds.

There is a great deal of confusion over the recent attacks. There are two versions to this by both Hindus and Christians. Can you please explain this to us?

The attacks are just a reaction to aggressive faith marketing and mindless evangelism and conversions through unethical means indulged by Christian missionaries. Even Father Adolf Washington of the Archdiocese of Bangalore said recently that there are several groups of people doing the rounds in Bangalore adopting persuasive techniques not just to convert people but also to spread animosity against mainstream Christian denominations. They hurl invectives against the teachings of Christian denominations and even induce people to tender a written ‘resignation’ to the pastor or priest. Since some of these groups do not even accept the divinity of Christ, in effect, their conversion should not be understood as conversion to Christianity but to their organisation. Mainstream Christian denominations do not go on a conversion spree, only splinter groups and cultic groups do so probably for some self-gain. Are the Christians in Karnataka living in danger

The real source of danger to the Indian Christian community is not the handful of Hindu extremists but the self-styled saviours of Christianity who assert that they alone are the holders of valid visas to heaven and paradise.

What is the solution?

No civil society should condone violence. But mere condemnation is not a method to avert the repetition of violence. We have to find out if the violence is deliberate and unprovoked, or due to provocation. If it is the former, then there is one set of solutions, which mostly involves applying the law and severely punishing the perpetrators of the violence. However, if there is provocation, then we have to study the issue in greater detail. We have to understand why there has been a provocation for the violence, and who are the persons or organisations behind the provocation.

The Church is supreme. Do you think the Church is doing enough to prevent such incidents by fringe groups who you say are the core of the problem?

These fringe groups have been stealing the sheep. They steal people from main line Churches and are also engineering defections and are giving them important positions. The Church has spoken about this, but I am afraid has not done enough to prevent this. During the Bishop’s conference in Kerala there was an appeal to their members not to go in for conventions and revival meetings. In the year 2004 some members were also expelled. However I think they ought to do more and openly declare that they have nothing to do with such people. I feel that things would change for the better if a strong stance is taken and more regularly. Also I feel that the Church itself has become dead and people cannot look up to it for inspiration. The social work that the Church is doing is simply run of the mill and has become life less. All this needs to change soon.

The mainstream catholics and protestants would like us to believe that the problem is with evangelicals. Its utter nonsense.

The problem is with the church itself which was formed as a Roman imperial arm, despite all the claims of persecution by a few roman emperors. No one can deny that both Islam and Christism are good for arabs and west european but absolutely wretched for native americans(in both North and South America) and other people with any cultural tradition. One cannot deny the power in the idea of one just god.Contrary to what many in our forum think, that is one (not the only one) perfectly valid path for sadhakas, however much 'monotheism' has been abused by islam and christism.

If we really care for our future, our society should take over all church property, church schools/colleges/churches built by european imperial powers, with very few exceptions in may be states like Mizoram,Meghalaya,Nagaland. These were built with our labour, capital on our land and should be handed over to dalits. And church property should be distributed in proportion to the different sub-castes in dalits with full freedom to continue in Hindu faith or convert to christism. Some exceptions like in the case of naadars of south can be given. The state governments shouls ensure that the property is used exactly for the purpose of dalit school education/health care.

Simultaneously, dalit privileges should be removed. This will be three mangoes in one stone-dalit improvement,no dalit privileges, curbing of exaggerated christist influence.

Recall that Mumbai terrroists attack enablers, Tawa ur Rana and Daoud Gilani were scouting in Kerala for sites to attack? Most likely there is covert operation to unearth their links for India appears unable or unwilling to pursue those links. Most likely their cohorts are in every city that the Mumbai duo visited. Unlike psec Indian elite they have long memories.

They are doing our job for us. These guys were responsible for warnings on terror attacks on Goa - which would have probably been averted thanks to Israeli help.

Israel’s counter intel operation in Kerala
Posted by Vicky Nanjappa on February 8, 2012

Are the Israelis trying to wage a battle in Kerala? Before getting into the details here is what happened a couple of days back.
The Israeli couple Shneor Zalman and Yaffa Shenoi were in India on a multiple entry visa and were residing at the Rose Street at Fort Kochi. They were paying a huge rent of Rs 50000 per month which according to the police was higher than the normal rent paid in this area. The duo were questioned, their financial transactions noted and then deported on the ground that they enjoyed international immunity. The police however said at first that they were collecting details against the government. Today they have in their custody one local handler who was helping the couple gather details and his investigations have revealed further details of their visit and stay since the year 2010.
Although Kerala has not witnessed a major terror strike, there has been a lot of intelligence as to how this state has soon become a breeding ground for Islamic terrorists. There has been further intelligence to show that the kind of terrorism that is being bred here does not restrict itself only to home grown operations, but there are instances where youth have been sent outside the country to either wage a battle in Afghanistan or Palestine. The reports of youth being sent out came to the forefront when the Indian army ambushed a couple of Jihadis in the Kashmir valley of whom a few of them were from Kerala.

Israel and India face a common threat and what the former believe is that the state of Kerala had become a potential breeding ground for international terrorism and hence they needed to pick up some data regarding the same. The Palestine issue has been a talking point during the various meetings that are held by extremists and the 26/11 attack showed the manner in which the Israelis were also specifically targeted during the attack.
Post 26/11 Israel woke up to the fact that their citizens were not very safe in India and there was a good chance of them being targeted once again. The couple who were in Kerala were collecting data on such possible incidents and were feeding back to their home land. Their area of focus was mainly Kochi and Malapuram where the number of extremists are higher in ratio. Sources suspect that such undercover agents could be stationed in other parts of the state as well and are picking up details regarding such operations. They have hired local agents who help them collect data on the meetings and also the plans that are being chalked out.
As has been said earlier the Palestine issue has been a focal point for those who engage in recruitments. After the 26/11 incident, the threat perception against the Isrealis has only grown two fold and they suspect that similar kinds of attacks could be planned against their nationals.
Isrealis are particularly worried about the coastal areas since their citizens are found in larger numbers over there. They now believe that during major terror strikes their nationals could be singled out and targeted so as to send across a message to those waging a battle against Palestine.

This latest incident points out that Israeli has been engaging in a lot of counter intelligence since the 26/11 attack. They may have stationed their agents in various parts of the country, but their prime focus has been Kerala as the dynamics here are different compared to the rest of the country. The extremists in Kerala have been playing a very important role in jihad activities and this is the state that has been best connected to modules outside India. Their funding comes in from the Gulf and it is only cadres from here who have been sent in larger numbers for operations other than India based ones. Malapuram and parts of Kannur have been pin pointed as breeding grounds and this is where there is expected to be a lot of counter intelligence by agents from other nations who fear that their citizens may be targeted in India.
Meanwhile the police and also the IB continue to question the local handler who was helping out the Israeli couple. The couple had to however be deported as they enjoyed international immunity.

India’s overall forest cover has declined by 367 sq-kms in the past two years despite a few states actually expanding their forest areas. The net loss is mainly on account of Naxalites destroying close to 200 sq-km of forests in Andhra Pradesh, a government report said in Tuesday. The country’s total forest cover now stands at 23.81 per cent of total geographical area.

In Khammam and Warangal districts of Andhra Pradesh, Naxalite groups felled a massive number of trees and cleared forest areas to “get the attention of the government and involve the local villagers,” said T Chatterjee, Secretary, MoEF.

Moral Police stalking girls in Kasargod
06 Feb 2012
KASARGOD : Kasargod is being steadily ‘talibanised’ as Muslim girls are warned against talking to boys of other religions. A student studying at the LBS Engineering College here was severely beaten up on Saturday night when he came to the railway station to see off a classmate of his, a Muslim girl, who was to attend an interview in Ernakulam for her final year projectwork.
The boy, who had tea at a restaurant near the mofussil bus stand along with the girl, was followed by nearly 50 youths in motorbikes to the railway station where he was abducted. He was severely beaten up at an undisclosed place and was later let off.
The girl was questioned by the 50-member gang who did not allow her to board the train. When the railway police and some passengers interrupted, they attacked the passengers also. However, when more policemen arrived the youths ran away from the scene. The girl was then sent toErnakulam in another train.
A few days ago, a youth was abducted from the venue of the Kasargod Mahotsav and was severely assaulted for talking to a Muslim girl. A man who directed a Muslim woman to the KSRTC bus stand was also severely beaten up.
In yet another incident, two youthswho came in a motorbike questioned a Muslim girl as she was walking along with her father.
According to sources, youths are moving about in motorbikes and frequenting restaurants, hospitals, bus stands and railway station to find out whether Muslim girls are talking to boys of other religions.
Sources also said that the activists of the Indian Union Muslim League and the NDF were jointly planning the moral policing in Kasargod. It isalleged that the police took no action though the victims lodged complaints.

But now

No wonder there is very less action against terrorists in this Nation, if we have rulers like this?

And what do our TV news channels do. For 3 days they cover 2 MLA's watching a P*** clip. Whaah.
"We showed the Batla House encounter photographs to Sonia Gandhi. Seeing the pictures, she started weeping. She was pained and asked her to talk to the Prime Minister immediately about the incident."

Khurshid said that Congress party was keen to probe the matter. "We wanted to hold judicial enquiry, but could not order probe (by retired justice) due to elections.

Tubelights start flickering?

Is Hindu Terror as big as it's made out to be?
There is something radically wrong with the entire picture; the pieces of the puzzle do not align with each other despite attempting every possible combination; and the key does not open the lock. The foremost investigating agency in the nation, the National Intelligence Agency, despite its extensive reach and limitless resources and despite the fact that the theatre of operation for this specific sleuthing lies within its ambit, continues to fumble in the dark trying desperately to unearth tangible evidence that would nail the culprits responsible for acts of violence branded as 'Hindu terror.'

Such a dead end scenario calls for serious introspection and compels us, willy nilly, to explore the logical options underlying this predicament. Is it possible that our investigating agencies are just plain incompetent and lack the acumen to crack these cases? Not a credible excuse.

For in multiple other instances of terror, even when they have involved complex conspiracies hatched abroad, our security agencies have been eminently successful in garnering evidence and prosecuting the criminals in a court of law. Then what is the rational explanation for this fiasco?

Is it possible that definite evidence is not forth coming because none exists? A rhetorical question that is heresy to some but a query that just cannot be evaded especially in light of the political hype surrounding this controversy.
Ever since Union Home Minister P Chidambaram coined the term, 'saffron terror', there has been a relentless campaign to highlight this phenomenon by repeated incantation and the floating of bizarre conspiracy theories; one of which implicates Hindu terror outfits in the death of Hemant Karkare, the ATS chief killed during the 26/11 attacks in Mumbai.

It is such outlandish and contrived notions that make one wonder about an ulterior political motive fuelling this inquisition. Is 'Hindu terror' a convenient bogey aptly termed to expeditiously feed into the polemics of India's divisive communal politics and an entity deliberately blown out of proportion to assuage the sentiments of a wider Muslim community reeling under the onslaught of collective blame (wrongly though it may be) emanating from the misdeeds of a few amongst them?

And in other words, is this a deranged attempt at politically counterbalancing Hindus and Muslims with little regard for ethical impropriety?

If talk of Hindu terror was harmless banter or merely an exercise in political one-upmanship, one would be least concerned. But this brouhaha is a dangerous game that has serious repercussions on India's fight against terror acting as a distraction that not only compromises our efforts but puts us diplomatically on the backfoot vis-a-vis Pakistan.

It is nobody's contention that we condone or ignore the violence perpetrated by Hindu groups. The investigation can continue. But at this stage it would be a fatal mistake if we directed all our energies and resources in trying to chase a non-existent problem at worst or an insignificant one at best and ignore the 800 pound gorilla in the room: Pakistan inspired locally aided terror.

interview with nitin gadkari president BJP

New Delhi: Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) President Nitin Gadkari on Thursday said that Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi is one of the party's prime ministerial candidate for the 2014 Lok Sabha elections. Talking to IBN18 Editor-in-Chief Rajdeep Sardesai, Gadkari said, "Modi has got the potential for becoming the Prime Minister."

Gadkari's statement came a few hours after the Special Investigation Team (SIT) report on Gulbarg Society massacre during the 2002 Gujarat riots placed before a Ahmedabad court found no prosecutable evidence against Modi.

Transcript of Nitin Gadkari's interview with Rajdeep Sardesai:
Rajdeep Sardesai: The reports are now indicating that Narendra Modi may get a clean chit in one of the major Gujarat riot cases, do you still see Narendra Modi as a potential prime ministerial candidate of the BJP or the NDA in 2014, particularly if he gets a clean chit in the Gujarat riots?
Nitin Gadkari: Already I have cleared it that the BJP has got a lot of potential leadership who is capable of becoming the Prime Minister. Now, Modi is also one of the leaders, he has also got the potential for that. There are five to six leaders, and at the right time the party will decide who will be the prime ministerial candidate for 2014.

Rajdeep Sardesai: Does that include Narendra bhai also?
Nitin Gadkari: 100 per cent. Those five to six leaders also include Narendra bhai.

Rajdeep Sardesai: One question which is troubling people is why is Narendra Modi not campaigning in Uttar Pradesh? First phase of the elections are over, Mr Modi has not even campaigned once, will you concede that there is some problem as a result of which Mr Modi is not campaigning in Uttar Pradesh? Is this something that concerns you?
Nitin Gadkari: First of all from the national party we have already made a request to Narendraji that he should give some time to Uttar Pradesh and other states for elections. Now, he has to find out the dates for that, the matter is with him, he has to decide about it.

Rajdeep Sardesai: Sir you are being diplomatic. He is your star campaigner in all other states, but he does not campaign across Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand and Punjab, is it because Sanjay Joshi was made in-charge of the state and Narendra bhai was upset with it. Be honest sir, somewhere has it hurt Narendra Modi, you have discussed it with him?
Nitin Gadkari: I'm too honest and too transparent, but I admit that as a politician and as the President of the BJP it will not be appropriate for me to tell you every honest reason for it. But I accept that Narendra bhai is a stalwart, a leader of the party and still we are expecting dates from him and if he will give his dates, we will manage.

Rajdeep Sardesai: Your smile is giving you away. Somewhere are you disappointed; he is supposed to be your top leader, you have yourself said he is a potential prime ministerial candidate, should he not be campaigning in Uttar Pradesh?
Nitin Gadkari: I'm the head of the family, it's my duty to take everybody with me and I have tried my level best to take all the leaders of my party with me and that is the mission of my party.

Rajdeep Sardesai: But have you failed in that, that it remains a divided parivar at some level? There are personality clashes which are preventing you from being as united?
Nitin Gadkari: Our party is a democratic party. We are not a party of father and son or mother and son.

Rajdeep Sardesai: But why can't you force Narendra bhai to come and campaign if he's a potential prime ministerial candidate should he not campaign in Uttar Pradesh?
Nitin Gadkari: You know these all questions, these are appropriate questions but to a wrong person.

Rajdeep Sardesai: But you are the party President.
Nitin Gadkari: You can ask these questions to Narendra bhai and he will explain. it's not proper for me to discuss this issue in the media.

Rajdeep Sardesai: Are you disappointed?
Nitin Gadkari: Not at all.

Rajdeep Sardesai: Do you think it is affecting your party's unity that a top leader does not campaign?
Nitin Gadkari: First of all, the party has already made request to him to give some time for Uttar Pradesh and I still expect that he will give the dates and he will come for the campaign for the party in Uttar Pradesh.

Yes it came out in 2009 and these type pamplets were part of the reason certain constituencies were won by INC_ NCP. Ignored by National media for certain interests.

IM and the street funding

As police officials from across the country continue to grill operatives of the Indian Mujahideen, they have discovered that a lot of money for their operations were raised through robberies and extortion.
During the past couple of years. The IM carried out operations and did not leave any trail financially. Investigators kept a watch on transactions from Dubai and Kerala but did not find enough evidence to prove that money was being transfered to the IM operatives. The recent spate of blasts were considerably cheaper operations and were executed with finances less than Rs 20000. The. I’m felt that it was not worth taking the risk of entering into wired transactions for such meagre amounts.
Tariq Anjum, one of the operatives who is in the custody of the Delhi police told his interrogators that nearly Rs 5 lakh was raised through street crimes ranging from robbery to extortion. These incidents were made to look like anyother robbery incident and the police had no clue what use this money was being used for.
Investigations revealed that the actual members of the outfit were never involved in the incidents or robbery. Some illegal immigrants and those not connected with the outfit were tasked to do the job as it would leave no trail to the organisation. The police did manage to arrest four persons in connection with these incidents of robberies in Bihar, Uttar Pradesh and Madhya Pradesh. However while interrogating them no details came out as the men themselves had no idea as to who exactly the men were who assigned them the task.
Anjum also states during questioning that in the days to come they were planning on attempting bigger incidents such robbing of jewellery stores and targetting businessmen. This was being done as they did realise that today the IM is on the watch list of the international community and their financial details are being tracked very closely.
Investigators however point out that this does not mean the end has come to transcations through hawala and other wired transactions from the gulf. The modules habdling these transactions would come into play for bigger operations where the money involved would be high. However for the smaller operations they would continue to use street funding as one of the means to generate money.

Jaipur: A BSF commandant and an inspector from Jaipur were among those personnel killed in a Naxalite attack in Odisha on Friday.

The Naxalites used improvised explosive devices to blast the BSF vehicle at Malkhangiri while the officials were returning after meeting the area collector regarding panchayat polls. Then, to ensure the BSF personnel are dead, they fired on them around 2 pm, informed a BSF official.

Five personnel were killed in the Naxal attack. They included inspector Ashok Yadav (35), a resident of Mahesh Nagar and commandant Jeevan Ram (46) of Vidyadhar Nagar in Jaipur. The family will receive their bodies on Sunday.

Which side did B.Raman-garu wake up from to write this piece?
Time to stop demonisation of Narendra Modi
The Gujarat chief minister's future should be decided by the people not on the basis of recycled unproven allegations, but on the basis of what he has achieved as an administrator, his ideas and vision for the future, and his capability to achieve them, says B Raman.

The allegations made against Narendra Modi, chief minister of Gujarat, in connection with some incidents of violence against Muslims during the communal disturbances of 2002 were quite serious. They amounted to charges of conscious inaction amounting to criminal complicity.

These allegations warranted thorough investigation by a body of professional investigators and follow-up action in the form of criminal prosecution if the allegations proved to be correct during the investigation.

Such a body was constituted by the judiciary through the setting-up of a Special Investigation Team (SIT) headed by R K Raghavan, former director of the Central Bureau of Investigation. Raghavan is a highly distinguished officer of the Indian Police Service known for his professionalism, integrity, independence and objectivity.
In other words, the allegations of criminal complicity against Modi stand disproved. The serious allegations against Modi were not pushed under the carpet. He was not exempted from facing the due process of the law in the nature of a criminal investigation. He was treated like any other citizen despite the high office held by him and subjected to a criminal investigation by a team of distinguished professionals.

When the SIT has cleared him of the charges levelled against him by some sections of the public -- particularly from the Muslim community -- and by some human rights activists, fairness of criminal justice demands that the demonisation campaign against him should be discontinued and the sword hanging over his head should be removed. He has been cleared honourably and not conditionally.
