I have mentioned this earlier also, one important part that's being missed here is that Prakash Karat on 2008 had taken back Left Front Support from UPA 1 due to Nuclear Bill.

Jihadidi didn't waste any time and formed a coalition with Cong. So, in 2009 GE, she had full support of the centre and also backing of central money to win the left front vote machinery. Sonia didn't waste any minute either to cut LF to size given the threat to UPA govt due to the support withdrawal. There were tacit understanding that Jihadidi would get a free hand in the state, she in turn would support UPA in the centre.

Add the EJ money and direction given to Maoists for Singur and Nandigram agitation, a sympathetic governor Gopalkrishna Gandhi (he is still president hopeful btw) in that volatile mix and that created the ground for the muscles jumping side.

The Maoist action squads were fully involved in Nandigram and partially in Singur to take on LF muscle.

I think I would echo Lal Mullah's sage adage that 80% of the BRF posts go unread.

And no, I repeat, Jihadidi is not doing anything new, the entire playbook is developed by Left and perfected over decades, not just in India but world over. It works on complete social domination.

You can check how Viet Cong cadres used to visit the villages and cut off the hand of the kids immediately after the US soldier in a heart and mind approach visited them and given inoculation.

Just today, WB govt denied the permission of Amit Shah to hold a meeting. The excuse is that the owner of land has complained to the police. The issue is simply that the owner has to live, he does not have any option other than follow TMC dictate and lodge a complaint per their direction.

Even today, BJP in many cases can not employ the local decorators/suppliers and has to bring in tent, chair and all such materials from neighboring state because all the local suppliers, under the threat of TMC, would refuse to do business with them. And that is the most minor problem BJP has to face.

The real threat are faced by people associated with BJP. The people who at the ground level do BJP work are true lion hearts, the kind of social boycott and harrassment they have to go through is unbelievable. Their kids will get extra punishment in school. Their wife/adult kids will face harrasment in workplace. Relatives coming to visit their place will face barracking. There is constant harassment with threat of life endangering violence, not just for them but their near and dear ones.

Each and every person who has worked as polling agent in BJP is a marked one and within the next 3 to 6 months would either be forced to switch side or beaten black and blue and leave their ancestral home. The Central force will leave after election, there won't be anyone to protect them.

And if you think this is some thing TMC has developed, you should ask your Bengali friends what it used to mean during Left front period when white cloth ('sada than' in bengali) used to be left in the front of the house at the dead of the night.

My uncle who is a founder/supporter of AAP in Delhi. He voted NOTA. This was an absolute surprise for us. He has been a militant supporter of AAP and Khujli. I know it is anecdotal but still a significant one.

You may not be able to read but the photos are enough and then you make your own decision how the polling is going on in WB. The news are from ABP by the way, not from some small time, fly by night, news media.

The image in the first report shows the TMC goons barracking and brick pelting on the convoy of BJP candidate. The photo is from one place, there were literally 100s of such incidents, wherever the BJP functionaries went during the polling day. You can imagine the situation in side the booth. As is the norm, no action would be taken, TMC would later proclaim that BJP candidate/functionary were trying to provoke local people with hate speech and the people have acted spontaneously. Even if Central forces/ECI takes any legal action, it would revert back to WB police immediately after election and then they will all go scot-free.

Also if you notice, there are people posted at the back of the action squad to take video of the image. There are 2 functions for such video:

a. in case BJP functionaries and their body guards take any action, use the edited video to go to court and complain about heavy handedness of central forces etc etc .
b. in case BJP functionaries turn tail, edit the video suitably and share on SM etc to create the fear psychosis for BJP supporters in other areas

In the second report shows the car of the press reporters travelling with BJP candidate. This is the norm and not exception. All BJP candidates, their supporters, their bodyguards and even press accompanying them face this on regular basis on the campaign trail.

In fact CISF jawans deputed as bodyguard of the candidate had to fire on the air and one of them were critically injured in the bricks pelted by the goons. And then WB State Police, supposedly under ECI, had actually tried to detain the CISF body guards for unauthorized firing.

The photo of the situation: the BJP candidate seating inside the police station to take refuge from the TMC goons, her bodyguards had to fire on air to stop them physically lynching the candidate.

She went to the place hearing booth capture, her convoy were attacked. The moment she tried to reach the polling station on foot, the ladies squad of TMC had physically attacked her and started beating.

Her body guards were mostly male and hence not well equipped to handle the situation. They had to fire in air to protect her, there is a photo of that as well.

WB police, as usual, did the minimum to protect her (they also don't want her to die as they will be questioned, their goal is just to break the moral). Once she took shelter in the local police station, she were kept there for hours in the pretext of protection. Mind you, there was one injured CISF jawan with her in the need of medical attention.

In the mean time, get this, the WB police seized her vehicle, as documents were supposedly not on order!!!

Finally, she left in the car of her bodyguards with the injured jawan. And no, the ordeal was not over. In every road block back to the city hospital, WB police personnel tried to block their car and detain the CISF jawans for unauthorized firing. The CISF commandant had to argue for hours in all the blocks and finally had to go to a police station near the city to record his statement. Only after that, they were allowed to proceed to the hospital and the candidate and the jawan could get medical treatment.

People in the forum think Central Forces and ECI are all powerful, without having any clue how they can be manipulated by the state ruling party.

If you think the WB police detaining the car of the candidate and trying to detain her bodyguards and in general harassing them, all in the pretext of following ECI rules, is an anomaly, read further on.

Just today, one of the BJP candidates had a seat-in protest in Kolkata against harrasment. Using the ECI direction of searching car for money to influence voters, WB police had effectively detained his entire convoy for 6 hours on the campaign trail. 3 sets of police team had searched each and everything in the convoy and even after that had asked him to go to police station to sign the statement. On asking question, WB police, in a smug face, showing the ECI directive and openly stating they have video-graphed the entire search so everything is above board. And such is common place, happening regularly. Even a person of the stature of Mukul Roy (he was actually the junior railway minister during UPA2) had to face this regularly in the last couple of weeks.

And the most frustrating part is, this is nothing new, ECI faces this in WB in every election. God knows, why they don't learn anything. The state vote machinery and police combo is much more creative and agile compared to them and run rings around each and every time. How can they shamelessly declare peaceful, free and fair election is something no sane person can fathom.

Guys, I was just scanning the twitter lines of the usual ModiJi haters just to gauge what their buzz is, noticed that his statements on using e-mail, cloud cover benefiting IAF etc; it seems to me that its much ado over some minor gaffes at best. Next few days will tell if these gaffes have any traction among the wider public. I doubt it.

I think his strategy has worked beautifully as expected. Libtards over at SM & probably to a certain extent at MSM are busy and/or arguing trying to prove his radar & cell phone statements wrong...After a long time, I feel like BJP is setting the agenda and others are busy chasing the stories set by BJP in trying to prove them wrong. This gives the BJP/PM perhaps the time needed to do meaningful campaigning to deliver the core & important messages to masses.

Amidst all this, Lt General H S Panag, a retired army-man has suggested that a coup may be a good option if PM Modi returns to power.

I don't see any issue with the radar story. For one, as Karan M showed, it's deliberate obfuscation and noise. For another, that indignant noise is beneficial since it keeps the herd occupied at working themselves up into a mouthful of lather. That sort of thing isn't them setting the agenda - it's them creating an echo chamber for themselves, which is fine.

The difference between GE 2014 and 2019 in terms of setting the narrative has been outstanding. In GE 2014, the narrative was owned and run by the other side, with the BJP side being the reactive one. This time around, they *tried* to do the same, but it was obvious that Modi figured them out and turned the whole thing inside out.

From no interviews at all, he's got almost a dozen, to major channels of his choice. They were also implemented on his terms, in a setting suitable to him, as it should be. He let them ask hard questions, and offered real answers. In several instances he had no problem pointing out their own hypocrisy, e.g. why does the once reputed investigator IE act like it does today.

RaGa on the other hand had his high profile live interview mysteriously turned into a text one (I think RW twitterati are not being hard enough on them to release the video - it could be legendary comedy). His latest ABP video sounds like that of someone high on something asserting how much he loves and wants to hug Modi, and he followed that up with another seemingly suggesting he has feelings for Mayawati. Akhilesh's interview by Prannoy was a masterful example of a politician talking like a politician. As Anujan put it - a politician is supposed to say why you should elect him, not keep talking about the other guy, or worse, how you're going to try to weasel your way in.

Prannoy's recent interview with the guy on the roadside was incredibly rude. Is there no law against going around asking people "what caste are you ? then why are you voting XYZ ?" The poor guy being interviewed had a lot more class than P Roy demonstrated.

Lot of ill informed posts on page 107. It was Singha that wanted Bengal divided.

KHANNA (Punjab): With Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the BJP continuing their attack on the Congress over Sam Pitroda's remarks on the 1984 riots , party chief Rahul Gandhi on Monday said the leader should be ashamed of himself and seek apology from the country.

Rahul Gandhi was addressing a poll rally here in favour of Congress candidate Amar Singh, who is pitted against SAD nominee D S Guru from Fatehgarh Sahib (reserve) constituency.

"What Sam Pitroda said about 1984 (anti-Sikh riots) was totally wrong and he should seek an apology from the country. I am saying this publicly and I also said the same to him over phone. Pitroda ji, what you had said was completely wrong and you should be ashamed of yourself. You should seek public apology," he said winding up his speech here.

Punjab chief minister Amarinder Singh was also present at the event.

Speaking to reporters last week, Pitroda had brushed off the1984 anti-Sikh riots by saying, "hua toh hua" (whatever happened, happened).

This is the second time that the Congress chief has rebuked Pitroda for his remarks on the 1984 riots.

The Congress chief had earlier tweeted his disapproval and the party had distanced himself from Pitroda's remarks.

Demanding an apology from Pitroda, Rahul had said that his statements were “completely out of line”.

The BJP has stepped up offensive against the Congress over the Indian Overseas Congress chief's remarks as the 1984 anti-Sikh riots is an emotive issue in Punjab which is going to polls on May 19.

During campaigning in Rohtak in Haryana and at Hoshiarpur in Punjab, Modi on Friday had hit out at the Congress, saying Pitroda's remarks reflected the "character and arrogance" of the opposition party
