It is quite possible. It is now 1435 H.
Pakistan has the potential to become the 18th largest economy of the world by 2050, leaving behind many strong economies, according to Jim O’Neill, a British economist.
Jim O’Neill is famous for coining the term BRIC – Brazil, Russia, India and China – in 2001, analysing their potential to become world’s powerful economies. Now he has come up with a new term MINT - Mexico, Indonesia, Nigeria and Turkey, projecting their economies to see the strong growth in the coming decades.
According to his projections for 2050, Pakistan would become the 18th largest economy in the world by 2050 with a GDP of $3.33 trillion (almost the same size as the current German economy).
Currently, Pakistan ranks as the 44th largest economy in the world, with a GDP of $225.14 billion. This means that if O’Neill’s projections are correct,
Pakistan’s economy would grow 15 times in the next 35 years or so.
The BBC in its recently published article, termed it as the envy of many developed countries but also two of the BRIC countries, China and Russia.

So, if Mexico, Indonesia, Nigeria and Turkey get their act together, some of them could match Chinese-style double-digit rates between 2003 and 2008.
Oh maaan! What is he smoking? Did Ganja send him a crate of the best, from strategic depth, Afghan stuff?

China reveals its cards for investing $20 billion in Pakistan
China is demanding that all mega power projects, including the Bhasha Dam, Gaddani and Lakhra coal plants, the Tarbela Extension project and many transmission lines, be handed over to China without any international bidding process, and Beijing will directly invest $22 billion in Pakistan.
The Nawaz Sharif government is eager to accept this huge Chinese offe, and a loophole in the PPRA rules is being used to hand over all these mega projects to China.
“Beijing will extend the preferential and medium term soft loans of $22 billion to Pakistan against the guarantees of the government of Pakistan”, a senior official who was part of the recent meeting of the Pak-China Joint Working Group (JWG) held on January 7-8 in Beijing told The News.
“We have carved out a plan to capitalise on the opportunity that Beijing has extended to Pakistan. Under the plan, Chinese companies will be offered the coal and hydropower and huge transmission line projects under a direct contracting regime which is not against the PPRA rules,” the official said.

Taliban Bomb Kills 13 Near Main Pakistani Army HQ
A Taliban suicide bomber blew himself near Pakistan’s main military headquarters on Monday, killing 13 people just a day after the militants struck inside an army compound in the northwest of the country killing 20 troops, officials and militants said.
The two-day barrage is among the most intense onslaughts recently against the Pakistani army as it struggles to battle insurgents in the country’s volatile frontier regions.
Monday’s attack took place early in the morning in the garrison city of Rawalpindi, next to the capital of Islamabad. Police official Sardar Zulfiqar said a suicide bomber struck just outside the main military headquarters.
A retired officer and five soldiers were among those killed, according to police officer Haroon Joiya, who said the bombing also wounded 18 people.
The suicide bomber was riding a bicycle and detonated his explosives when he got close to a military checkpoint, said Joiya.

Very fishy indeed.
Unless the driver is someone of very high intelligence / militant or political value......
PoK claims diplomatic immunity for driver arrested with brown sugar, detains Indian truckers
The claim was made by PoK’s Director General of Trade, a retired army officer, during a meeting with state government officials for breaking the deadlock over the arrest of the PoK driver, Divisional Commissioner (Kashmir) Shailendra Kumar told reporters. “Surprisingly, they conveyed that under the (Cross-LoC) pact, these people have diplomatic immunity. We asked for the documents which provide diplomatic immunity even to drivers,” the Divisional Commissioner said. The PoK authorities have detained 27 Indians and their trucks demanding release of the driver who was arrested after 114 packets of brown sugar valued at Rs 100 crore in the international market were recovered from his vehicle on Friday. The PoK authorities have also refused to take back their 48 drivers and trucks which had come with goods to this side. Kumar said the PoK authorities were asking for release of the driver and return of the narcotic substance as well. “We explained to them that it is not possible as a case has been registered and a judicial process has to be followed. We cannot return them without a trial,” he said. The Divisional Commissioner said the the PoK authorities were requested to take up the matter with their higher ups as “we are going to follow the law of land in this case”. “We have also requested the state government to take up the matter with the Centre. We are hopeful some progress will be made in next couple of days,” he said.
The Divisional Commissioner said there were no directions to the administration to start any extra-judicial process. “As per the law, possession of narcotic substance – whether by a local or a foreigner — is banned and illegal,” he said. There was no information to suggest involvement of the government across the LoC in smuggling of narcotics to Kashmir but “we have to be careful. These substances can be used to target our youths”, Kumar said. “It is a signal for us to remain vigilant. We need truck scanners to help in detection of illegal substances without unloading goods.”

The more fundamental question that Jim O'Neill has to consider is
whether Pakistan in its current form will even exist in 2050? Given the interncine violence, provincial instability, short term dismal economical outlook, kleptocracy; the picture is rather bleak. I am not sure that Pakistan has invested in the proper infrastructure (education, technology, energy, manufacturing, capital etc.) to sustain high growth. With most of Pakistan caught up in the cause of proving who is greener than the other, it would take a significant stretch of the imagination to see a dominant economy.

Although the 30,000 foot level details of this $20 Bn "investment" are clear enough, I bet the detailed terms also include a requirement to purchase only Chinese materials and hire only Chinese management labor, with the local governments footing the bill for housing and security.

Suspected militant hideouts blitzed in North Waziristan
Bombing Using Fighter Planes Jeehad on Pushtun Women and Children By Paki Fauj
PESHAWAR: Pakistan military's fighter jets pounded several suspected militant hideouts in Mirali area of North Waziristan tribal region killing at least 24 persons and wounding 15 others. The air strikes took place as domestic pressure grew on Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif to take tougher action against Taliban militants following a string of attacks across Pakistan in the past week.“This hadn't been planned before, and Pakistan Air Force jets were called to hit hideouts of the militants involved in attacks on security forces,” said one military official who spoke on condition of anonymity.Tribal elder Malik Jan Mohammad in the Mir Ali area said 15 people were killed whereas a Taliban source put the death toll at 27, including civilians.Military sources said fighter jets were only targeting militant hideouts. Residents said the bombardment started overnight without any warning.“We were all asleep when the planes started bombing the village,” said Khyal Zaman, a tribesman from Esori village in the Mir Ali area. “We had no idea what happened in the dark and those who survived came out of their homes in desperation along with children and started walking away into the open.” The army was not immediately available for a comment.Fear and panic gripped the areas struck by the overnight blitz which flattened several houses, following which gunship helicopters conducted fresh strikes in the morning causing locals to flee the volatile area for safer places, according to the report. The localities where the military strikes were conducted included Hamzoni village, Mohammad Khel village of Data Khel Tehsil in North Waziristan, Shera Tala area, Harmaz village, Moski village and other areas of North Waziristan.Sources said that those wounded in the attacks could not be shifted to hospitals for treament due to a curfew imposed in the area.North Waziristan is one of the seven regions in Pakistan’s Federally Administered Tribal Areas (Fata) governed by tribal laws. An extremist insurgency led by the Tehrik-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) plagues the region and the area is known to be infested with militants, including those from Al Qaeda and other armed extremist organisations.

Stand-off at LoC over narcotics truck worsens
"We are seeking intervention of Ministry of external affairs on the issue," minister of state for home Sajad Kichloo said.
PoK officials also suspended the Karavan-e-Aman (Peace Caravan) bus service, in what is seen as a pressure tactic.
The Pakistanis have also claimed that their drivers had diplomatic immunity.
J&K divisional commissioner said when the district magistrate of Baramulla met the trade and travel director general of cross LoC trade, Brigadier (retired) Muhammad Ismail Khan, to resolve the impasse, he was surprised to hear the Pakistan official claim that as per the trade pact, these people had diplomatic immunity.
On Friday, Jammu and Kashmir police had detained a truck driver and seized his vehicle after recovering nearly 100kg contraband, valued at `100 in the international market. While the local police claimed that it was brown sugar, a police spokesman in Srinagar said laboratory results of the contents were awaited.
“As the news of the driver’s arrest spread, the Pakistan Army did not any allow any traffic to ply across the LoC,” a source said.
“Right now, 49 trucks from Pakistan are waiting at Salamabad and 25 from this side have been stopped at Chakothi,” a trader said.
A meeting held at 3pm with Pakistan authorities failed to yield a solution, with Pakistan remaining adamant on its stand that the arrested driver be released.

we should stop trading with pakis. now they have detained 27 Indian truckers at LoC and are Refusins to release them till J-K Police frees its driver held for smuggling contraband and now has suspended bus service
Pakistani authorities on Monday suspended the Srinagar-Muzaffarabad and Poonch-Rawlakote bus services to press for the release of a Pakistani driver arrested by the Indian authorities for smuggling in narcotics worth Rs 114 crore.
The suspension of the bus services, in what is seen as a pressure tactic, worsened the deadlock at the Line of Control (LoC). Twentyseven Indian truckers continued to be detained for the fourth day at the Chakoti trading facility on the Pakistani side of the LoC.
As many as 48 Pakistani drivers were stranded at the Salamabad trading facility near north Kashmir’s Uri town. The Pakistani authorities are seeking the release of all 49 drivers, including the driver caught with the contraband last week
