I am not denying that there are problems with BJP rule of 5 years. But to compare this with 2004 is not proper. In 2004 BJP was overconfident. Today it is not. BJP destroyed itself in UP at that time and top leadership of BJP is not connected to core vote base and never really on the attack mode. Now they are. The all India reach of BJP in 2004 and 2019 is totally different. The seats aimed by the party are also different. Media and communication systems are totally changes with BJP has more connect than before. Opposition in Pappu is great news for anyone rooting for BJP.
The main problem with 2014 win is failure to reach South and East. East is largely achieved with Oddisa and WB giving reasonable chance of seats. In South NDA in TN can given a good show this time and KA seats will be by and large remain same. Wins in TN and KL will almost fill AP and TS expected washout. Problem is now with North and West numbers which can only go down after 2014 numbers. How far down is the question. If the North and West down can be managed in UP and other states like MP,CG, Raj and Guj, we are looking at 250+. Other small problem in less number of seats being contested in Bihar. So BJP may end up being dependent in JDU and SS this time. Both are problematic fellow but can be managed. Jagan and KCR can be brought inside and made to support NDA by one method or another.
So I do not see any problem for NDA this time also. BJP numbers may suffer unless there is a very good show in UP and WB.

Picklu wrote:I agree on all the points about the difficulties but trying to point out why most of the statistics are not improving the electoral prospects of BJP, similar to "India Shining".
I disagree entirely with the comparison to India Shining. I've offered a detailed argument comparing the two situations
in this post, and later ones in that page and the next.
In summary, India Shining was a premature celebration of what was then a very early stage of economic cycle , by a politically naive administration that jumped the gun and advanced polls. Delivery of public goods - primarily top down in the form of road / electrical infrastructure and devolution of economic powers to states, was a LONG way from reaching the commoner then.
The 2014-2019 period on the other hand, has been characterized by an enormous effort directed mainly at the rural poor, not so much the urban middle class who have received little tax respite. Instead, the focus was on a multidimensional delivery of very basic goods and services, but at scale. It should be accepted that the delivery won't be perfect, but I'm guessing that Modi wagered that he would deliver enough to enough people to offer benefit.
The RSS are a volunteer organization tasked with their own separate mandate. They're not a tool for delivering public goods and services. The very concept goes against the purpose of the goods in question. You can't implement a 'teach a man to fish' doctrine by instead sending volunteers over to sit holding the fishing rod.

I don't think that everyone has really understood the true nature of the relationship between the RSS and the BJP.
By and large, they seem to be in agreement on a whole range of issues but..........
In many places, RSS workers demand money and perks from BJP candidates, and in many other places, they have taken money from non BJP candidates to do canvassing work for them against the BJP candidate.
Whatever the national understanding or even the lack of it between the BJP and the RSS, local level RSS/BJP workers usually always have their own set of issues that directly affect outcomes.
The BJP is beset by the Hindu's greatest failure, the eternally damnable prithviraj chauhan syndrome.
If the congies or the commies come to power, within a few hours they will ruthlessly and also wrathfully remove all perceived opposition whether in the press or among the baboo(n)s or especially among institutions, without caring a rat's for public opinion.
They will leave these removed entities slowly and publicly twisting in the wind, as an example, for all to see and beware.
This is the overarching fear that caused ABP TV presstitutes to edit the interview given by the PM of India.
You don't win a national election with the greatest of difficulty and then squander your hard won advantage by nurturing poisonous presstitutes and naxal/congi pasand baboo(n)s in your bosom, using some fatally idiotic and utterly moronic justification to keep them in the very same position that they have been carefully and cunningly placed by the very political party whom you have just defeated at the hustings.

Major political functionary residing on Tughlak Road under CBDT scanner
In the recent raids that were conducted by the CBDT in Madhya Pradesh, Congress leader and Madhya Pradesh CM Kamal Nath’s Officer on Special Duty (OSD) Praveen Kakkar and other aides have been caught by the IT department. Kamal Nath became CM of Madhya Pradesh in 2018. Praveen Kakkar was appointed as the government’s OSD after the Congress led government came to power last year.
In the revelations brought out by the IT department, there is mention of the area where the money has been transferred to. The news also speaks about a “political headquarter” to which the money might have been transferred. This is not only a mystery to solve but also a question of debate. Where is the money going? Which important senior functionary, residing in a place on Tughlak Road in Delhi, received the money? The Tughlak Road area is residence of eminent Congress leaders and stalwarts.
The Election Commission had asked the finance ministry to ensure an impartial and non-discriminatory crackdown on the illicit money that is in circulation. After this, the raid report from Madhya Pradesh led to the Chief Accountant of Congress and Treasurer Ahmed Patel being summoned for questioning. A major AICC worker SM Moni has been suspected to receive the Rs 20 cr cash and Congress leader Ahmed Patel has been pictured sitting with him. The reports were brought out by the IT department.
There are other Benami properties and unaccounted cash detected by the EC and IT department in and around posh areas of Delhi, and Tughlak Road being one of the focus areas has been revealed in the report. It is a question worthy of being pondered upon – who lives in Tughlak Road and has an important political association and control?
The unaccounted cash that has amounted to about Rs 281 crores from the Madhya Pradesh raid is a mystery that cannot be fathomed. The involved party has just been in power for about 3 months. The amount and rate of accumulation has stunned the public. The citizens of the country stand cheated. The unethical politics at play in these elections has alerted Election Commission of India

Election Manifesto 2019- V
Please keep discussion apolitical. Just on facts of relevant Manifesto's based on merit.
Caught up with work, hence could not go through and analyze the Manifesto's as I would have wanted. Depending on BRF, (e.g. Katareji's analysis for finer points).
Katare wrote:NDA manifesto - National security
1) Complete reforms of higher defense management structure and appoint a CDS by 2020. NDA govt, if voted back to power, will strive to create three (east, west and Indo-Pacific) theater commands to ensure an integrated, effective and comprehensive force structure to defend the nation.
.......
But had a little time during lunch today to do a quick and dirty word count analysis on the respective Manifesto's using free online tools to get a quick sense of what were the core issues that each party was focusing on.
While this approach can be approached as the whole truth (What each party says and does ion practice will be slightly different while a written Manifesto is evidence for prosperity) it still should be enough to hold a party accountable and get a sense of what it feels are the real issues that matter for voters (or should matter for voters).
Here's INC:
INC Election Manifesto 2019 - Interesting that the second most common word after Will (576 times) is Congress (397) and promises (207), followed by India (100).
Personal opinion, but seems that the country comes lower down in the hierarchy of things for the Congress.
INC Top Ten Word Stats
Code: Select all
Word Count
will 576
Congress 397
promises 207
India 100
State 78
ensure 60
Act 60
government 57
public 55
Governments 51
And the BJP:
BJP Election Manifesto 2019- In contrast the top 5 words in the BJP Manifesto are Will (365), Ensure (119), India (114), years (74), Government (74). The party mentions itself (BJP-19 times) and does not mention the Congress at all
And the top ten word count from BJP-
Code: Select all
Word Count
will 365
ensure 119
India 114
years 74
government 60
development 57
country 54

also 41

While the above is a very crude way of looking at things, personally its clearer to me even in words which Manifesto I did rather have.
Will try to run a further grouping of keywords by Economy, Internal Security, Social Sector, Foreign Affairs, Defense, etc for top 100 words later.

Did my part to 5forty3's effort with a contribution. May add more.
In my own view, it is important to build entities like him. The reason is simply that long term political entrenchment occurs with the development of its own system - including a poll barometer organization capable of performing ground level outreach to gauge, analyze and report sentiment. He won't always be accurate, and technically such accuracy is impossible. However, he serves a purpose as part of the center-right ecosystem and must be supported and built up.

on being asked about NYAY opinion he said lot of people were already in search of NYAY
- patel, ambedkar and bose on credit stealing
- "hindu terrorists" who were jailed under fake cases
- many more sharp examples he gave
on mayawatis call to muslims, he said if bjp had done that it would be hue and cry and many award wapsi would have happened but self proclaimed seculars are in silence mode on that.

Looks like MP raids yielded 281 cr along with notes on how payments came from.
Payments came from Urea fertilizer subsidy, Child/Women welfare and all kinds of subsidy programs. Looks like a lot of money transferred to Pappu.
TOI editor @DeepalTrevedie losing it … Looting may be bad but IT raids have to be inclusive it seems. only targeting CON party it seems

IT and EC both are heavily compromised and EVM and electoral lists are also compromised - Compromised because there are visibly one sided attacks.
There are many IT raids on TDP people * so far in last few weeks. They also did raids on Telangana INC/TDP people such as Revanth Reddy during Telangana elections but none on TRS. (* Galla Jaydev- MP & industrialist, P.Narayana - MLC, minister, education institutes, C.Ramesh - MP & contractor, Murali Mohan - MP, actor, real estate - they are all in CBN inner circle)
0 raids on YCP people. Cherry on top is YCP own people murdered their own Y.S.Vivekanda Reddy (brother of YSR, dead ex CM). They wiped out all blood and evidences and declared heart-attack. But some one alerted that 5-6 heavy sword/axe attacks with white brain poked out is not Heart-attack but murder. Election Commission came into their rescue and transferred investigating SP and ordered not to reveal details until elections are over.
Anyway, from the rumors, going rate for vote is Rs 1000 to 3000 per vote depending on how close competition is in the constituency.

55 seats in UP? Those kind of numbers are hard to believe with MGB in play along with Con party being irrelevant (if they were a player they could have split some of the Muslim votebank at least. But they're useless). I'm hoping the poll is close to indicative of ground situation. Would be a very pleasant surprise indeed.

After Anna and MGR, Amma held control of the party. Now AIADMK has weak leadership with no strong ideologues to carry on the party the same way. BJP is waiting to pick up some crumbs as the *MK parties are crumbling as the real ideologues are all gone. AIADMK has 39 seats and might lose half to DMK but still BJP is no way of picking meaningful numbers for another 10 years.

Tsunami of Stings Modi BJP Unmasked Compilation
What are we seeing? Officials in the Cabinet secretariat indulged in money laundering? Amit Shah running currency exchange? A task force of officers operating out from the PMO? Cong party held a presser at 1pm releasing a bunch of sting videos. This was what journalists used to do in the olden times; now a political party is doing it. Unbelievable!
Rahul Ratharekar, RA&W man at the Cabinet Secretariat says three lakh crore rupees are printed abroad, brought into India via Hindon Air Force Base at Delhi border, and he names Amit Shah twice on tape! If true, India should officially be declared banana republic!
"We hope your proprietor will show it. Your TV will show it. But they won't." says Kapil Sibal. Ditto it happens. NDTV started showing the press conference, immediately stops right before the sting video started playing. (Reliance Jio is also mentioned in the tape--that Jio facility used for currency exchange--and NDTV is partly owned by Mukesh Ambani Reliance). NDTV duly cut to the video of Naveen Patnaik gymming and talking.
What a sad state of affairs in India. Only a miracle can save this country.
