It illustrates the need for better digitization of services, and why the protestations of 'privacy enthusiasts', anarchists, and the hizzoners who give them legal cover regarding aadhar and other such services need to be crushed in a swift and brutal manner.CalvinH wrote:Not bad. See how government is using social media app like WeChat...they completely control it. Seamless government and corporate linkage where government can force their writ corporate. In US this would be like US government forcing everything through FB.
Totally agree on this point. Except for a few companies and startups (including IIT-D based startup, DRDO labs etc) we don't really have the infrastructure and raw materials to massively scale up N95 mask manufacturing, but what should be done is deploy our considerable garment manufacturing resources round the clock to make basic 4-layer cloth masks that are sturdy and cheap, and supply each person with a stock of at least 2. People must not be allowed out of their homes without a mask. This by itself is equivalent to social distancing in many ways, probably at a much lower cost.Philip wrote:If SITRA have developed the PPE tech, then the huge textile belt from Coimbatore to Tirupur, largest garment manufacturing centre in the country can start making specialised medwear at speed. Some pvt. cos. have already started I'm told.Avadi too has/ used to have a huge uniform manufacturing facility, the OCF ( Ordnance Clothing Factory),which should also be roped in.

Similarly, the high demand five layered N 99 face masks designed by the Gwalior-based Defence Research and Development Establishment are already under production, with an expected rate of 200,000 masks a week.

The doctor in video above shows the SuiShenCode App that the CCP has deployed for contact tracing and public health. I think the China probably locks the SuiShenCode app to the user via facial recognition. India should also mandate the installation of such an app (a Digilocker) with a public health function. How the SuiShenCode works is explained belowMollick.R wrote: https://twitter.com/hanson_hhc/status/1 ... 05351?s=20
Left Bangalore last night and just landed in Shanghai today afternoon. I am surprised by how Pudong Airport and this metro city has been running, under the #COVIDー19 challenge. Here are some of my observations:
I was told to get SuiShenCode, a color card showing my health status, in Alipay APP. Green means healthy.
The card is actually a health proof used by everyone in Shanghai. All restaurants and hotels asked me to show it before allowing me in.
A big data product made by Gov. Location tracing by telecom carriers. Moved to a new hotel today. A new step at check-in was providing my travel history. Scaned QR code using WeChat, clicked 'Yes' to allow carrier search my location data, and it showed which countries/cities I had been in past 14 days.
Hiding location history of a person should be made criminal and chargeable under attempt to murder and murder.DrRatnadip wrote:In a shocking incidence , 40 doctors and nurses have been quarantined as one of the operated pt later turned as COVID positive.. China’s domestic tourism picks up during the Qingming Festival
Multiple tourist attractions in China welcomed massive crowds during the three-day Qingming Festival holiday which began on Saturday as the tourism industry picked up. However, experts warned there is a possibility of coronavirus transmission and called for stronger regulation of scenic spots.
Huangshan Mountain, a 5-A tourist attraction in Eastern China's Anhui Province received a huge flow of tourists on Sunday after it exempted its 190 yuan ($26.7) entrance fee to residents of the province to promote tourism.
The mass influx forced the scenic area to issue three notices to advise tourists to change their travel

Coronavirus: India enforces an absolute ban on the export of hydroxychloroquine, several nations send requests for supply as global demand rises
Many nations, including SAARC countries, Indonesia, UAE and USA have requested India to lift the ban on the export of hydroxychloroquine, the anti-malaria drug showing promises in the treatment of COVID-19 positive patients.

India enforced absolute ban on export of hydroxychloroquine
The government of India had banned the export of hydroxychloroquine back on 25 March as the global demand for the anti-malaria drug surged. Many nations have reported that the anti-malaria drug is showing promises in the treatment of coronavirus infected patients.
After US President Donald Trump advocated for the drug, the global demand had surged. However, Indian doctors have already been using the drug to treat coronavirus infections and the ICMR had recommended the use of hydroxy-chloroquine for high-risk cases, as a preventive measure against COVID-19.
The commerce ministry notification on 25 March had banned the export of the drug except on humanitarian grounds on a case to case basis if approved by the Ministry of External Affairs. The notification, however, stated that exports from SEZ/EOU units may be allowed to fulfil export obligations and in cases where an advance export license has been issued before the notification.
US President Donald Trump had yesterday stated in his White House address that he had requested PM Modi to allow the export of a specific order of hydroxychloroquine tablets.
Soon after the 25 March notification by the Commerce Ministry, the SAARC nations, UAE and Indonesia had requested the Indian government to lift the ban on the export of the drug. Many nations around the world are facing an acute shortage of drugs as the world grapples with the Wuhan coronavirus pandemic.
As per reports, apart from SAARC nations, Indonesia UAE and USA, many Latin American and European nations have also requested India to lift the export ban and allow the export of the drug to their respective countries. As many as 30 nations have reportedly requested India to lift the export ban on the drug.
As per a report on the Economic Times, on 27 March, the Department of Pharmaceuticals had asked India’s drug prices regulator to examine if India has enough stocks to fulfil domestic demand as meet export demand as well.
The SAARC nations had reportedly also requested for paracetamol, vitamins, certain hormones and medical equipment.
However, after due consideration, the Ministry of Commerce had on 4 April notified that the ban on the export of hydroxychloroquine will now be absolute and will not be allowed under any circumstances until further notification.
The new notification reads: “The export of hydroxychloroquine, and formulations made from hydroxychloroquine falling under any ITCHS code, including the ITCHS codes mentioned in the notification number 54 dated 25 March 2020, is no longer allowed SEZs/EOUs or any Advanced Authorisation or under the para 1.05(b) of Foreign Trade Policy 2015-20 or against full advanced payment as specified under para 2 of the notification. The export of hydroxychloroquine, and formulations made from hydroxychloroquine, therefore, shall remain prohibited, without any exception.
It is notable here that India is the largest producer of hydroxychloroquine and its formulations in the world. As the global demand surges, the international pressure on India to lift export ban can be expected to increase. But India’s huge population and the rapidly increasing COVID-19 positive cases in India may prevent India from allowing export under current circumstances

The positive case from Dharavi was really worrisome, until it was revealed that the person had given shelter to TJ campers. From the internet, we know that about 20 % of cases require hospitalization and the fatality rate is around 2% for this disease. So if and when the disease reaches community spreading,, stage we will know when people start coming to hospitals in large numbers with pneumonia like symptoms. So all those scaremongering articles quoting tens of thousands of cases are estimates without any factual information to support.

Excluding TJ, the positive tests - even among likely carriers is just 2.5% (TJ attendees are under 5% positive).Arun.prabhu wrote:Here's the funny thing: The positive result percentages are remaining more or less constant the world over. I don't know why govt cannot bring in a law (under emergency measures if needed) putting severe criminal penalties for not self-declaring or hiding stuff like Jamaat contact. I think the only govt being sufficiently proactive on this is Yogiji's govt, the rest are operating in their own politically correct bubble.DrRatnadip wrote:In a shocking incidence , 40 doctors and nurses have been quarantined as one of the operated pt later turned as COVID positive.. Ultimately lockdown has to be lifted.. This disease is here to stay no matter what we do.. Ultimately world will develop herd immunity against it and this pandemic disease will be converted into endemic disease.. We just need to identify ways of keeping high risk groups away from harms way as long as possible.. This will ensure our hospitals are able to handle the burden..Arun.prabhu wrote:This is prof Knut M Wittkowski. Impeccable credentials.

Which ministry to be contacted for getting a "mandatory" smartphone issued? Assuming such apps runs only in a smartphone.
BRF used to be realistic.
The TJ attendees have a much higher positive rate. There were about 8000 attendees according to reports. There have already been more than 1000 cases from them if the numbers from the last few days are anything to go by.Deans wrote: Excluding TJ, the positive tests - even among likely carriers is just 2.5% (TJ attendees are under 5% positive).

Outsourced supplies of PPEs begin landing in India
Posted On: 06 APR 2020 6:08PM by PIB Delhi
Supply lines from abroad opened up today with the receipt of 1.70 lakh Personal Protection Equipment (PPE) coveralls from China which have been donated to the Government of India. Along with domestic supplies of 20,000 coveralls, a total of 1.90 lakh coveralls will now be distributed to hospitals and will add to the 3,87,473 PPEs already available in the country as of now. A total of 2.94 lakh PPE coveralls have been arranged and supplied by Government of India now.
In addition to this, 2 lakh domestically produced N95 masks are also being sent to various hospitals. Including these, over 20 lakh N95 masks have been supplied by Government of India. About 16 lakh N95 masks are presently available in the country, and this figure will increase with the fresh supply of 2 lakh masks.
Major portions of the fresh supplies are being sent to States with comparatively higher number of cases such as Tamil Nadu, Maharashtra, Delhi, Kerala, Andhra Pradesh, Telangana and Rajasthan. Supplies are also being sent to central institutions like AIIMS, Safdarjung and RML hospitals, RIMS, NEIGRIHMS, BHU and AMU.
The commencement of foreign supplies marks a major milestone in our efforts to procure personal protection equipment for the battle against COVID-19. An order for 80 lakh complete PPE kits (including N95 masks) had been placed on a Singapore based platform earlier and now it has been indicated that supplies will commence from 11th April, 2020 with 2 lakh, followed by 8 lakh more in a week. Negotiations are in final stages with a Chinese platform for placing an order of 60 lakh complete PPE kits, which will also include N95 masks. Separate orders for N95 masks and protective goggles are also being placed on some foreign companies.
Giving a further fillip to domestic capabilities, Northern Railways have developed a PPE coverall. This is in addition to the PPE coveralls and N99 masks developed by DRDO earlier. Efforts are now being made to start mass production of these products. Existing N95 mask producers have increased their capacity to about 80,000 masks per day.
Orders have been placed for 112.76 lakhs stand alone N95 masks and 157.32 lakhs PPE coveralls. Out of these, 80 lakh PPE kits will include N95 masks. The objective is to achieve a supply of about 10 lakh PPE kits per week. Looking at the number of patients in the country, sufficient quantities are available for the moment. Further supplies are expected within this week.

Some form of staggered exit from lockdown will be needed..
We have too many patients who have no regard to safety of society.. People tend to hide information.. Corona infection has become some form of taboo and nobody wants to be associated with this "stigma".. Today morning I saw a pt who came with loose motions.. he denied any history of suspected covid contact, denied history of fever and sore throat.. His routine chest Xray showed big patch of opacity in right lung.. after too much pressure he admitted that he was having history of fever and throat pain.. he also came in contact with some foreign tourists before lockdown.. He may or may not have covid 19 but the way he was hiding information is worrisome..
The way govt is doing door to door surveys and aggressive contact tracing of suspects is commendable.. We are lucky to have strong leadership at center..
