New Pakistani influx
Fresh infiltration of Pakistanis — all Muslims — into Assam has been reported and there is a strong public feeling that had there been stricter measures for detection and deportation of the illegal infiltrants already in the State, there would not have been a new influx of Pakistanis. Two thousand new infiltrants have been detected in a particular area in Darrang district. One belief is that they came by small country boats over the Brahmaputra from Rangpur and Mymensingh districts. Some of these people are, it is reported, desperately trying to establish that they are Indian nationals by producing old and suspicious documents which include prescriptions by doctors and by impersonation. Some Pakistani Muslims deported earlier were also found to have re-entered Assam.
SO, why has this very same Mount Road Mahavishnu been in the forefront against disenfranchising and deporting these intruders ?

Automatic Meter Reader (AMR) which was presented in the Infomatrix Romania where their project won silver medal in the category of Hardware Control.AMR can collect consumption data from power, gas and water meters without involvement of meter readers. It transmits data to central database of service providing company for billing, troubleshooting, and analysis..Also, some modification can enable power companies to switch off air conditioners and other home appliances drawing extreme amounts of energy remotely which will end the need of loadshedding in Pakistan where over 5000MW is consumed by A/Cs in summer, the students said.Commenting on the development PakTurk officials Kamil Ture and Turgut Puyan said that participation in global competitions and winning prizes has become a regular feature for Pakistani students which reflect their talent.

Nightwatch on Wali-ur-Rehman's death: Pakistan: Press reports indicate a US drone attack killed a senior Pakistani Taliban leader and, variously, from four to seven comrades today. The Pakistani Taliban denied that Wali ur Rehman Mehsud was killed. Comment: Reaction to this drone attack has been mixed, but the timing relative to political developments in Pakistan is unfortunate. The new parliament has not yet convened and the new government is not in place. Prime Minister-nominee Nawaz Sharif promised peace talks with the Pakistani Taliban to try to restore law and order and he promised to stop the drone strikes. One commentator said the attack shows the US has no respect for Pakistan. Another opined that peace talks with the Pakistani Taliban are now dead.

I was wondering why the CII suddenly thought it fit to talk about the un-Islamicity of DNA tests in rape cases. PBS carried the following interview two days back.
The Stigma of Reporting a Rape in Pakistan
The interviewer never questioned the interviewee about the Islamic determination of Rape in vogue in Pakistan. Rather, they were beating about the bush on why cases are not reported or not registered even if registered, or not investigated even if reported or does not lead to conviction even if investigated and a case is filed in a court of law. Either the interviewer is unaware of the Shariah's 'necessary and sufficient condition' or simply was too polite.

Why do some Paki Muslims want to go against the Prophet and the Holy Quran? As pious Paki Muslims, they should follow the Prophet even if they don't understand the subtle ways of Allah. The Prophet says four males as evidence of rape are admissible, and pious Paki Muslims should stick with that requirement. If the Prophet wanted them to use DNA as evidence, he would have included it in the Holy Quran. I am deeply concerned that Pakistan is being corrupted by unholy ideas.

TTP confirms Wali-ur-Rehman's death, suspends talks - Dawn
The Tehrik-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) confirmed to Dawn.com on Thursday that the deputy leader of the militant organisation, Waliur Rehman, was killed in a US-led drone strike on Wednesday and further announced that the talks with the government stood suspended.
TTP also announced that the killing would be avenged.
Rehman’s killing could rattle the incoming government’s goal of negotiating with the Taliban.
Rehman had previously been considered amenable to talks.
I hope that the TTP reverts to its usual practice of targetting the PA. Nawaz Sharif is starting on a very wrong note. I see something deeply sinister in this action.

Chinese man accused of blasphemy in PoK, cleared of charges - Dawn
Authorities in Pakistan-administered Kashmir on Thursday cleared a Chinese man accused of committing blasphemy by desecrating a Quran, officials said.
Lee Ping, the administration manager of a Chinese consortium building a major hydropower project, was accused on May 17 of throwing the Islamic holy book on the ground, prompting hundreds of workers to attack his company offices.
Blasphemy is a highly sensitive issue in Pakistan, where 97 per cent of the 180 million population are Muslims. Even unproven allegations can spark a violent and sometimes deadly public response.
Police took Lee into protective custody at a secret location after protests erupted at the company offices near Muzaffarabad, the main town of the disputed Himalayan region, but on Thursday he was cleared.
“Police investigation has cleared the Chinese worker of desecration of Quran charges,” cabinet minister Matloob Inqalabi told reporters.
“No such incident of desecration of Quran happened there,” he said, adding that action would be taken against the people involved in the violence.
“Police has identified 35 people who were involved in violence at the project on that day. Legal action will be taken against them,” said Inqalabi.
But he refused to reveal the whereabouts of the Chinese worker or what would happen to him.
Lee was accused of throwing a copy of the Quran on the ground while moving the belongings of a Pakistani doctor after he had refused to vacate his room for relocation.
Pakistan and China have close relations and Chinese firms and engineers are working in development and energy projects across the country.

In fact my water meter has been read remotely for the past twenty years (that was in NJ and NY) and in CA Gas and electric meters are read in real time remotely for a number of years now. So nothing new. For some reason in CA water is not read remotely. A guy comes walks along the street and sticks a probe iand reads the water meter.

SSridhar, The post by Philip indicates that Waliur Rehman Mehsud met his 72 after TSPA sold him out to US.
So any conspiracy would have TSPA hand in it. Maybe give a bad start to Badmash's new era.
When Saddam Hussein of Iraq useed his airforce planes to bomb the Shiite Basra rebels the US led a UN no fly zone. Here they are suppling planes and bombs to Fizzleya! And dawn gleefully reports atleast 17 dead!
BTW Hindu of those days was from GK Reddy era.
Incidentally GK Reddy had such high credibility and access to GOI due to what happened when he was the press correspondent in Lahore in 1948. The Pakis issued a press release prematurely which stated the 'tribal rebels' invading Kashmir were led by TSPA military. GKR promptly informed Delhi. He was told to get out ASAP and given that prime access for services rendered to India.
Even otherwise he had high integrity and always portrayed the national line.

From "The News" editorial piece. Another worry for India is TSPians travelling to India and bringing this epidemic to our home.
Measles mayhem
Thursday, May 30, 2013 - From Print Edition
The measles epidemic is fast turning into a very real health scare in the country. At least nine more children lost their lives in Lahore on Monday, while 74 more patients were admitted to various government hospitals in the city. Officially the measles death toll in Punjab stands at more than 100, with 77 deaths in Lahore alone. These figures are disputed by the Young Doctors Association, which says there have been 131 measles-related deaths in Punjab. The actual death toll could be higher, since cases from rural areas may not have even been reported. It also maintains that the Punjab Health Department has been able to purchase only seven million vaccines – where 30 million were required – that the recent anti-measles vaccination drive was restricted to Lahore and should at any rate have begun in 2012.
We cannot be certain as to the validity of these charges, but the matter requires more investigation. A recent WHO report has also raised concern about the measles outbreak and there have been accounts of cases in Fata as well. While the numbers are disputed, what we can say with certainty is that this is now a crisis situation and there is an urgent need to rise above controversy and work together to bring it under control as quickly as possible. The desperate vaccine shortage reported in Lahore and other parts of the country is also creating more panic and anxiety. The incoming Punjab government must place the measles crisis at the top of its agenda. But going beyond the epidemic we confront now, we need also to examine why our vaccination programme has failed to such a great extent. The results of that failure are now before us. Health experts have long warned that a more holistic approach to vaccination is required, rather than a focus on polio alone. All problems need to be looked at as a part of an examination of our health system, so that we can set about the task of re-structuring it to meet the needs of people who have so far only had to depend on themselves when ill-health strikes.

EU envoy urges Pakistan to look to India for trade opportunities
By Shahbaz Rana / Creative: Essa Malik
Published: May 29, 2013
ISLAMABAD: Amid hopes that talks for the normalisation of trade with India will restart once the PMLN’s probusiness government assumes power, the European Union (EU) urged Pakistan on Wednesday to review its policy of giving preference to trading with the EU and instead focus on trade with India.
“Pakistan’s largest trading partner should not be the EU, it should be your neighbours – in particular, India,” EU’s Head of Delegation to Pakistan LarsGunnar Wigemark said while speaking at the third international conference on the role of competition in fostering trade and investment.
He also advised Pakistan to become a regional champion for competition by opening its borders for trade and investment without harbouring any fears. Wigemark said Pakistan enjoys a unique position as it is located at the intersection of one of the oldest trading routes in the world, and is blessed with a “talented people, ready to work hard to realise their dreams.”
The comments made by Wigemark came on the heels of would be prime minister Mian Nawaz Sharif’s stated resolve to improve relations with India. However, the military establishment is said to have advised Sharif to go slow on the issue.
The trade normalisation process, which was started early in 2011, was put on the backburner after the military establishment asked the previous government to link trade normalisation with composite dialogue. India’s reluctance to provide a level playing field to Pakistani exporters also silenced many protrade voices in Pakistan.
Wigemark said the economic benefits of regional integration are welldocumented. He said Pakistan’s trade with the EU accounted for about 20% of its total trade in 2012: the EU received 21% of Pakistan’s total exports, whereas 17% of Pakistan’s imports comprised of EUmanufactured products. The current volume of trade between the EU and Pakistan stands at 8.2 billion euros.
Wigemark also had a message for the new government: “Be inspired by the recent elections and create a truly level economic playing field for business in Pakistan,” he said. He said the new government enjoys a strong political mandate, which it should use to get rid of problems such as cartels, pricefixing, distorting subsidies and kickbacks.
Competition Commission of Pakistan (CCP) Chairperson Rahat Kaunain Hassan, on the occasion, warned that the establishment of the International Clearing House (ICH) in the telecom industry had reversed the gains achieved through deregulation of the telecom sector.
She said the ICH was in violation of the Competition Act, and said the arrangement is based on price fixing and revenue sharing based on a preagreed quota, which is against competition laws.
“The country has reverted to a retrogressive policy due to the ICH,” she observed. “The ICH fixed and raised the price of calls from an average 2.2 cents to a uniform rate of 8.8 cents. The sharing of revenues was based on a fixed percentage through quotas,” she added, “For the Commission, this was an open and shut case of cartelisation,” she said. The Commission had imposed a penalty equivalent to 7.5% of turnover on long distance international (LDI) operators, which is estimated to total over Rs10 billion.
She revealed that, based on data provided by the sectorspecific regulator, there has been a huge reduction in the volume of incoming traffic. However, despite the reduction in incoming traffic by 70% – from 1.9 billion minutes in September 2012, to 578 million minutes lately – the revenue of LDIs has increased by 308%.
Similarly, monthly revenues of the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority have decreased from $24.4 million to $16.7 million after the ICH arrangement. Kaunain warned that the ICH was resulting in an increase in gray traffic, and that the country was being isolated at the international front.
The US Federal Communication Commission has already ordered US companies to not pay any termination rates to Pakistani carriers in excess of the rates in effect prior to the ICH agreement.

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan has availed a Chinese trade financing facility in a bid to shore up its rapidly depleting foreign currency reserves, following a large loan repayment to the International Monetary Fund (IMF) which dented its ability to finance external trade.
“Use of the Chinese trade financing facility should not be perceived as help from a friendly country. This is a loan Pakistan will have to return,” explained an official who spoke on the condition of anonymity.
There has been a net increase of $190.8 million in the total liquid foreign currency reserves held by banks in the country. Pakistan’s total foreign currency reserves increased to $11.623 billion by May 24, according to the latest data issued by the SBP, despite a $385 million payment to the IMF made by Islamabad in the preceding week.
Reserves held by the State Bank of Pakistan (SBP) increased to $6.564 billion, higher by $181.8 million. The SBP’s reserves are inclusive of the $2.7 billion that it has booked in forward contracts. Commercial banks’ reserves have also increased by $9 million to reach $5.1 billion.
The exact amount of the financing received could not be immediately ascertained, but SBP spokesperson Inayat Hussain more or less confirmed that the increase in reserves is largely because of a currency swap arrangement with China. The development is contrary to market expectations, courtesy the SBP’s unusual decision to utilise a currency swap arrangement to build reserves.
The agreement became operational fairly recently, after it was ratified by Pakistan and China in an effort to promote bilateral trade and investment and strengthen financial cooperation. The three-year agreement was originally aimed at facilitating traders from the two countries.
Sources said Pakistani authorities had requested China to activate the credit line after it witnessed a sharp dip in its foreign exchange reserves. The SBP has now withdrawn Chinese currency and converted it to dollars to shore up its reserves, they added.
“The problem with this arrangement is that the country will have to return the loan in Chinese currency after three years. It will then use the dollars it holds to buy yuan back from the market, which will have a direct impact on reserves,” sources explained. The Government of Pakistan will have to pay mark-up on the borrowed sum at a rate higher than the Shanghai interbank market rate, meaning that this will be an expensive undertaking.
Industry insiders have long suspected that China will convert the arrangement into a loan, as it had expressed scant interest in trading in Pakistani currency since the early stages of the deal. They said China had refused to deal in Pakistani currency when Pakistan first proposed the arrangement to Beijing.
Unlike in 2008, when China deposited $500 million with the SBP to shore up Pakistan’s reserves, China has not yet expressed any explicit desire to bail Islamabad out of the mess the latter finds itself in.
So far, the incoming PML-N government does not seem willing to negotiate a deal with the IMF for at least another three or four months despite the obvious problems in external financing. Sources said it is also negotiating with Saudi Arabia for a two-year furnace oil facility on deferred payment worth $5 billion.
Analysts see the increasing tendency to seek help from ‘friendly countries’ an attempt to avoid unsavoury reforms that the IMF will force on Pakistan as a precondition to any fresh bailout programme. Sources said the Obama administration will likely not ask the IMF to take a lenient view, given present circumstances, and that Pakistani authorities will be pressed to take certain corrective measures before they even consider formally approaching the Fund.

PAF suspends “Air Force Development Plan 2025,” says report
Due to financial constraints and non release of funds by the federal government, the Pakistan Air force (PAF) has suspended its up gradation and development plan called “Air Force Development Plan 2025,” says a report of the Senate’s standing committee on defence Thursday
AFDP 2025 programme was launched in 2003/04 by former president Pervez Musharraf aimed at making it at par with modern air forces of the world
After 2007 PAF did not get a penny from federal government and had to shelve the plan
due to suspension of the development plan, PAF had to close number of projects which have affected the overall up gradation in the country including air bases, jets and other facilities
Time to play the "victim" card and demand aid/$$/free transfer of goodies from the west and cheena.

The positive side of loadshedding....gets you closer to allah!
Loadshedding is good
the power companies should occasionally switch off electricity at least for residential areas
I want my children and grandchildren to be prepared for the time when electricity will be so expensive that they will be forced to use it sparingly
there is the added benefit of a reduced electricity bill owing to loadshedding
And,
let’s live a couple of hours every day without electricity: it will strengthen both body and soul, like fasting does
AoA!! Loadshedding equals fasting during ramzaan. Allah has a special place reserved in jannat for LakhaniMian (with real hooris, not those ersatz raisin types). Top that, joo kufrs.

On the assassination of Sheikh Wali-ur-Rehman.
No drone strike was possible in FATA badlands without accurate information and coordinates coming from the PA. The US has absolutely no independent humint in these areas. It is therefore obvious that Wali-ur-Rehman was killed by a joint operation of the PA and the US because this incident happened in Miranshah, North Waziristan (NWA). NWA is largely controlled by the sarkari Taliban, Gul Bahadur whose relationship with Baitullah and later Hakeemullah has been testy, partly because of the traditional Waziri-Mehsud rivalry and also because the Mehsuds fell foul of the PA at one point. The TTP has vowed to take revenge for this against 'the establishment'.
However, the question is why now ? Was it a rogue operation by a few in the PA to share the USD 5M bounty ? Or, is there a method in the PA madness ? This is what we have to understand. There is nothing new in this post except re-stating the obvious to get clarity.
Since intelligence of this nature passed on to the CIA by the PA/ISI goes through the highest levels in the PA, it could not have been a rogue operation. The PA, all said and done, is still a disciplined force. One must conclude that the PA did indeed deliberately pass on the information. Possibly, intelligence gathering became easier after the talks between the PA/GoP and the TTP started as the TTP lowered its guard, especially towards the election time and after as there was a consensus to talk to the Taliban. Probably, the TTP was lulled into complacency by Obama's speech on the drones as well.
So, why did the PA act in the way it acted now ? We have to realize that there is no difference between the Afghan Taliban and the TTP. The TTP has taken a bayat on Mullah Omar. I have long held a belief that there is a small coterie within the PA which is acting at the behest of the Taliban. Of course, the whole PA supports the Afghan Taliban (because PA's goal is India and Afghanistan under the Taliban comes handy) but some top PA generals were not enthusiastic about the spread of uncontrolled jihadi terrorism into Pakistan (it was OK for them only so long as this phenomenon was under their strict control). When Musharraf sided with the US and took his first action in June, 2002 against the AQAM in Waziristan, the AQAM was so angry that they decided to take on the PA itself. The TTP evolved from there though it was formalized only in c. 2007. That was when the Islamist jihadi coterie within the PA was also formed, IMO. When there are people like Gen. Hamid Gul, Gen. Aslam Beg, Gen. Mehmood Ahmed et al in the PA, it is not inconceivable that there is a coterie of officers who support AQAM. The struggle for Musharraf was how to keep a lid on them even while pursuing the American diktats. This dichotomy continues where a part of the PA officers (mostly those inducted and indoctrinated in the Zia-ul-Haq era) believe that the final goal is to destroy India through whatever means while another increasing part believes in jihad to conquer the world of Dar-ul-harb including India and therefore are in consonance with the AQAM. We call them respectively the India Group and the AQAM Group of PA Generals.
For the India Group of PA Generals, the close proximity to the Afghan Taliban is essential. After all, the Taliban are PA creation and there can be no strategic depth without them. Historically too, the Afghan Taliban were separate from OBL/Zawahiri combination though the Taliban accommodated the latter. However, the India Group fails to see that after 9/11, the Afghan Taliban and the AQ have merged. No distinction is possible any longer. The TTP was deliberately created as an offshoot to tackle Musharraf's 'running with the hares and hunting with the hounds' policy. The India Group somehow believes that somehow the Taliban can be weaned back from the AQAM ideology to toe the PA dreams and PA dreams alone while they have a free run within Afghanistan and enjoy Pakistan's protection, a la pre-2002 situation. Their dream is that then they would be able to stop the jihadi blowback on Pakistan itself, channelize the jihad against India even more violently, re-establish their strategic depth, milk the US for maintaining the jihadis under a leash and everything will be fine as before. they also want to control the talks between the Taliban and the US. They make all sorts of promises to China on the post US pullout scenario. So, their characterization of TTP as 'bad Taliban' and gaining US acquiescence to send drones to target them even while outwardly protesting the loss of sovereignty. It is this group that is responsible for Wali-ur-Rehman's death.
We have to wait and watch the reaction of the Dar-ul-Harb PA group to know how strong they are. It would be interesting to see if some sort of power struggle ensues now within the PA. Nawaz Sharif is now put in a difficult situation by the India Group led by Kayani. Nawaz may therefore support the other group especially when the replacement is chosen for Kayani to retrieve the situation. It all depends on how ferocious the retaliatory strikes from the TTP would be. But, one has to admit that the TTP is quite weak these days.

Paul, MMA dissipated even by the 2008 elections. It was a marriage of convenience fostered by the PA and as Musharraf waned, MMS waned and withered away. Besides, Fazl-ur-Rehman of JUI-F, who was the major force in MMA, is an opportunist and he always sides with the winning party. He joined with PPP after the 2008 elections and he is now with Nawaz Sharif.
The real losers in 2013 elections in KP are the ANP. They bravely bore the brunt of TTP attacks for five years and were singularly targetted during the election campaign, both in KP and in Karachi. They have been decimated including their very top leaders and that is exactly what the TTP wanted. Pakhtunwali-wise, they eliminated the jirga elders and spread their Salafi/Wahhabi/Deobandi shariah in FATA and politically they have defeated the more reasonable and more secular ANP. From now on, it will be the march of their narrow Islamist view in KP with a willing accomplice in jihadi Imran Khan. He knows what fate awaits him otherwise, some say even otherwise.

Portland resident Reaz Qadir Khan was arrested in March on a shocking charge: conspiracy to support terrorism.
Khan, now 49, was a Pakistani-born naturalized U.S. citizen who moved to Portland in 2005 to work as a wastewater treatment operator for the city of Portland.
Just a month after moving here, federal prosecutors allege, Khan got in touch by email with a friend across the globe: a young extremist from the Maldives Islands named Ali Jaleel. The younger man is quoted in a federal indictment describing a desire he and Khan once shared to seek martyrdom for Islam.
Prosecutors say Khan would go on to finance Jaleel’s terrorist training three years later, advancing the young jihadi’s role in a plot to destroy a government intelligence building in Lahore, Pakistan. The 2009 attack killed roughly 30 people and injured more than 300.

What is so shocking about a Pakistani being caught in a corner of the world for being a terrorist ? This means that the Americans at large are ignorant of the terrorist state of Pakistan.

It is indeed a tragedy that ANP is being eliminated. However it was always a matter of time. Those with the weapons and willingness to use them would ultimately triumph.
What worries me is not the Taliban ideology. But rather the lock that the ISI has on the various Taliban factions, directly or indirectly, e.g. over Quetta Shura and Haqqani Network directly and over the TTP through ideology, influencers and American drone program.
What is important is that Indians and Afghans need to work together to break this relationship between ISI and Taliban. That means killing all ISI functionaries who are either embedded in the Taliban or are Taliban handlers, or have financial dealings with them.
Taliban needs to be completely freed from Pakistan. Then it can act as an independent power center and harm Paki establishment just as much as they harm others.

Free the Taliban from Pakistan or the Pashtun majority areas from Pakistan?
You mentioned the Quetta Shura and Haqqani Network, but LeT and Hafiz Saeed are directly antagonistic to India while the Taliban are busy in Eastern Afghanistan and Western Pakistan.

Electricity is Kafir invention, Pakis can do with Pig tallow to light their magical lamps. Pakistan will advance much faster without useless things like Railways and Electricity.
