No. This means that the Bill would NOT goto any select committee which would sit on it for ever. The next voting would be for the actual passing of the bill.

In India, anything you want to kill but without creating a ruckus or allowing for a face saver, you form a committee or send it to an already formed committee.

Calm down, brothers.

The Rajya Sabha voted AGAINST sending the bill to a select committee. Sending a bill to a select committee can mean putting it into cold storage.

Although now that I think about it, why were there only 116 votes against sending the bill to the select committee? It should be the full strength of the NDA no?

Dhoti-shiver time?

On the actual vote.
121 FOR, 92 against, the rest are idiots who Walked Out.

Full strength of NDA is only 117. AS' danda is working fine.
I thought there would be votes from the "non-partisan" appointed Fruits&Nuts, but maybe I am wrong.

I feel scared of the scale of the fight that Hindus are fighting with hands tied behind.
Consider this, why is USA or Pakhis feeling uncomfortable with this bill. They can always offer their land for the persecuted Muslim minorities, can't they.

Another disappointing intervention from a Congress luminary, this time @KapilSibal. High on rhetoric, low on logic. He makes a damaging insinuation that Hindus who fled the Islamic nations were not persecuted.
What's happening during #CitizenshipAmmendmentBill2019 debate is that Congress is being forced to shed its 'soft-Hindutva' image that it tried to float during 2019 elections through Kailash yatra or appropriation of saffron symbols.
Theek hai. All to the benefit of BJP. Modi will not mind. Getting people and parties to place on record their position on persecution of Hindus is also an objective.

But what I really don’t understand that why is Congress upset with Shiv Sena now? As if they didn’t know 2 weeks ago that #CABBill is about to be presented in the winter session and that Shiv Sena brings. Hardcore hindutva party will support the bill.

Ab kya ho gya?
Also note: All this was done in the full glare of the media and accompanied with a lot of sound and fury. The exchanges will be remembered and recalled with little prodding. Modi got what he wanted.

Amit Shah ji, could you please take a well-earned rest for a couple of weeks at least? The country needs you around. Solving one "utterly impossible to solve" issue per month for six months in a row is a hefty strike rate, it is impressive, but it will take its toll.

Done and dusted ... 125 out of 125+105 = 230. Therefore halfway mark was 115 and a simple majority needed would be 116. Passed comfortably.

Will CON attack Sena for walking out? It wouldn't have defeated the bill but at least made the contest closer.

If pak is broken into pieces, the resultant chaos will make people run for Iran, Afg and India, can this bill be used to stop them at the border? It can be done even otherwise but now that we have a law, will it make more easier? Asking because have seen baba mention several times about getting independence for people for baluchistan, sind etc.

75% majority in LS and 55% majority in RS for CAB Bill...this is clearly the mandate of the population and the states, is totally constitutional, and no court in its right mind should be meddling with this legislation.

And in the process, yet another wedge driven between the SS jokers and Congis.

Wonderful job by Amit Shah. He is truly emerging as a modern-day Sardar Patel. Big shoes to fill, but with 370, RJB (final stages), and CAB in his list of achievements...and NRC, UCC et al coming up, he is certainly approaching that status.

NRC is at least a year away ..

1. Shah or Modi mentioned stated that somewhere.
2. Process all the CAB related cases in fast track such that there is no panic during NRC like the last time.

Actual: 125-105. Maybe they served Rooh-Afza Zam Zam Cola to bring in 13 Walk-outees, or maybe the fragrant Dilli winter air invigorated them so much that they came back inside to vote.
This means EIGHT out 12 "appointed members" voted ***FOR*** CAB. Guess of course, since 92 cretins voted to send to Committee.
