BEIRUT, LEBANON (5:05 P.M.) - The Syrian Arab Army sent several units of reinforcements to the T-4 Military Airport on Tuesday in order to help build-up their forces for their upcoming counter-offensive in the Palmyra countryside.

According to a military source in Damascus, the Syrian Arab Army's High Command sent reinforcements from the Aleppo Governorate to eastern Homs today; these units were made up of soldiers from the elite Tiger Forces and Military Shield.

At least 2,500 more soldiers are expected to be redeployed to the Palmyra front in the coming days, as part of the greater force to retake the oil fields surrounding this ancient Syrian city.

With the so-called "Islamic State of Iraq and Al-Sham" (ISIS) in control of all the oil fields north of Palmyra, the people in the Homs, Hama, Latakia, Damascus, and Tartous governorates have limited electricity and fuel; it is now an imperative endeavor to restore these sites for the Syrian Armed Forces.

Seems the 11th Division is no longer an armored division due to leaving 30+ tanks and similar number of other vehicles behind in palmyra.

So the saying goes the only properly run defensive setup in syria is deir azzor...

None should be surprised if t4 also falls and its rolled further back..ndf are not comparable to iraqi pmu with embedded irani vets maybe.

Perhaps joint russi amriki plan is to do a euphrates shield on isis and pull them away from raqqa which sdf will now encircle and take. Syrians will ofcourse pay in more blood in homs.

Cynical quid pro quo games...usa stood by in aleppo and will get russi co op on raqqa

One arabi warlord who is anti assad has also promised his legions for wrath of euphrates phase2. 200 more socom operators are sent to syria this week.

Assad has no option but to take back the gas and oil on his own meager resources now. Hezbollah is keen on idlib but will likely send whatever help they can and the local shaitat tribe are anti isis and will fight

I think Assad will take Aleppo and then rest till Iraq takes Mosul. Thereafter, Eastern part of Syria including Palmyra will be captured - liberated with Iraqi help.

BEIRUT, LEBANON (12:30 A.M.) - The last Syrian Air Force base in east Homs is now in grave danger as the so-called "Islamic State of Iraq and Al-Sham" (ISIS) launch their largest attack yet.

ISIS began their assault by seizing several sites north of the T-4 Airbase, including the airport's hangars and Russian military base that was built several months before the terrorist offensive in east Homs.

While reinforcements have arrived in eastern Homs, it is not likely that they will have much of an affect on the battle due to the Islamic State's superior numbers and geographical advantage.

According to a military source at the T-4 Military Airport, the situation is currently very tense, with the Islamic State repeatedly storming sites after being repelled a number of times prior.

Losing the T-4 Military Airport would not only be a public relations disaster for the Syrian Arab Army, but it would also delay any potential counter-offensive they were planning near Palmyra.

The other issue they face is the potential loss of Quraytayn, which is located south of the T-4 Airport and directly east of the Qalamoun Mountains.

Up to 5,000 militants, including hundreds of suicide bombers and dozens of vehicles, took part in the offensive.

They had reportedly relocated from Mosul in Iraq and the Syrian provinces Deir ez-Zor and Raqqa, where the US-backed Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) had stalled their planned attack on the group. Their ability to reach Palmyra apparently undetected by regional surveillance operations has been a cause for consternation. One theory is that the fighters disguised themselves as local people, military expert Alexander Perendzhiev, a lecturer at Moscow's Plekhanov Russian University of Economics, told RIA Novosti. "Terrorists in Syria use sophisticated tactics to move in small groups, so-called 'flash mob tactics.' Under the guise of Bedouins, local people or even Syrian army soldiers, they come from different directions and meet in an inconspicuous place. As a result, suddenly there is an unexpectedly large force in one place." "The terrorists have taken more than one city using this tactic, but we still haven't learned to actively counteract it," he added.

check out ejaz haider's latest interview of hina rabbani khar on capital tv. She mentions clearly that one of the serving luminaries of democrat regime spent vast amount of energy to reorient pakistanis to be jihadis (not that they need much help in this, but still) and not just be anti-soviet or anti-najibullah.

so these are strategic assets, with focussed jihadi training makes them indispensable for future campaigns.

for now isis are moving around boldly with tanks and technicals in broad daylight on the perimeter of T4.

T4 is stuck out on a salient vulnerable to attacks from north and south. the govt might decide to shorten its lines by falling back to quraytn and stabilizing it there.

this will reduce the urgency of sending people and resources to T4 which right now has no great value as syria will again need to denude other fronts to build up for a palmyra offensive . will take the heat off Idlib.
