World Cup 2019: Kedar Jadhav likely to be dropped over lack of intent vs England https://www.indiatoday.in/sports/cricke ... 2019-07-01
what abt Dhoni's intent . 10/28 intent ?

Small boundaries, flat pitches has made toss the boss, bat first score 350 and win will follow due to WC pressure. Saw 2 matches live, stadium in cardiff apparently has about 50 yard boundary on one side

If Dhoni or Kedar is questioned for their intent then why should not Rohit & Kohli ? Neither Rohit nor Kohli has Strike Rate of 100 in the match.

Just because one comes down the order does not mean he is born slogger irrespective of pitch condition or weather. Did not you notice Rohit's struggle and Kohli's frustration through out their innings ?

Kedar just faced 13 balls, what do you expect a miracle out of those 13 ? And Dhoni has Strike Rate of 135 ! second beast in the inning and almost same as first best (136) Pandya and well a six more than Pandya !

Real winner were English bowlers who exploited condition really good and in their favor where our spinners failed.

They've been forced to make too many changes as it is, no point dropping Jadhav as well now. The worst time to make changes is in the run up to the semis. Do the best with what we have, which is still quite good, IMHO.

People forget that there hasn't been a missed stumping or drop of lolly behind the stumps. The main job of WK is to keep wickets. Both DK and Rp have been found lacking in that skill compared to MSD.
As far intent, India did score 300+ despite no intent, so all this is crap. We lost one and that's pretty much it.
It has meanwhile exposed our weakness in chasing against top 2 teams.

in a crunch situation I would still count on MSD to deliver like he did in the WC final against Sri lanka, promoting himself up the order to control the pace of the chase and only letting himself go when victory was on the doorstep.

but probably his ability to steal singles and lightning quick running between wickets has visibly slowed down now. this was the man who scored 80 out of 100 runs sometimes in 1s and 2s and was a terror for any lazy non-striker like rohit :)

We are seeing last of MSD before he hangs up his shoes. Lets enjoy and cherish these moments. He is one of the all time great of the games and will be spoken in the same breath as Pataudi, Kapil and Ganguly among captains.
He has done enough to be judged on a different scale than others. He is already a legend of modern cricket.

So we lose a opener and we get a wicketkeeper batsman as replacement and DK still doesn't get a show in. We lose a 3-D player and we get a pure batsman in his place. What logic runs selection team. What evil did Rayadu commit to not be on the plane instead of Mayank.

@Singha: Meanwhile if BD loses today, get ready to read about conspiracy and luck favoring India and they just lost by few dozen runs.

Will need quite a show today to end BD run. Spin attack looked toothless against fast-footwork attack. The main difference was that the English batsmen were really clobbering every ball - and Indian fielders were attacking which means that boundaries flowed - plus the GM-pork-fed BritPakis were really lofting over the short boundaries. When MSD & KJ tried stylish ground shots, the fielders were far off, giving only singles. Pitch was unreliable so lofted shots were suicide.

But they should bring in Jadeja. Look at the catch he took to break the 1st-wicket stand!

Amid all the talk of short boundaries, most of the sixes hit by the English batsmen were over long on which was by no means short.

MSD was a vastly more accomplished captain than any of them. He's the only captain in the history of LOI cricket to lead his team to World Cup, T20 World Cup and Champions Trophy. No one else has won even two, much less all three. He also has the most test wins as captain - more than Ganguly, and Virat has not yet caught up with his Indian record 27 wins, though Kohli is just one behind at 26 wins so far.

We can top the table if SA wins against Aus though it looks unlikely.

We gave a life line to England. Its now up to them to grab it kick the pakis out.

Surprised by the depth of BD batting. Number 8 makes 51 in 38 balls. Our bowlers probably did not got all out but still it was a great effort by them.

England needs to beat NZ, and the Pakis are out. That is assuming that they win against BD.

If Pakis lose against BD, they are out anyway, irrespective of any other result.

The best way for Pakis to qualify is for NZ to beat England and Pakis to beat BD, in which case they qualify at the expense of England. There is a theoretical chance that they can qualify at the expense of NZ if England beat NZ, but that would be very unlikely as it would depend on NZ losing by a huge margin and Pakis winning against BD by an equally huge margin.

The last two semifinal spots can only be contested between NZ, Eng and Pak. The first two have the best chances. Current standings (everyone has played 8 matches now):

Code: Select all

Country Points
Australia 14
India 13
NZ 11
Eng 10
Pak 9
Their remaining matches are:
Eng vs NZ
Pak vs BD

1. BD wins: Eng and NZ qualify regardless of what happens in Eng vs NZ
2. Eng wins, Pak wins: Eng and depends on NRR between NZ and Pak. NZ is currently far ahead (0.57 vs -0.79). Likely Eng and NZ
3. NZ wins, Pak wins: NZ and Pak qualify
4. BD-Pak rainout: Eng and NZ qualify regardless of result, due to superior NRR
5. Eng-NZ rainout, Pak win: NZ and depends on NRR between Eng and Pak. Eng is far ahead (1.00 vs -0.79). Likely Eng and NZ
6. Both rained out: Eng and NZ qualify.

Minor nitpick, if Both rained out, England will have 11, NZ will have 12, Pak will have only 10. NRR does come into the picture here.

imo we have had our run and will not progress beyond semis unless by some fluke both kohli and rohit run up big numbers on same day.

- weak other opening partner for rohit
- shaky middle order - no real established titan like Yuvraj or Raina to lead & marshal the lower order
- MSD has totally lost his old touch and looks forlorn now ...
- chahal, bhuvi, shami looked harmless and costly
- only hardik and bumrah were able to get steep bounce and some cut
- using a 6th bowler makes us batting weak as we lack real all rounders barring hardik. we have a long n weak tail.

the brit pakis have planned well and made the pitches dry and slow unlike regular english wkts which they rig to help jimmy anderson!
its all about slow wkts and GM meat fed lathaits using brute power to hit in the air as we saw ... only the aussies have a couple of such musclemen.

our weakness in slog overs showed in last 4 matches on the trot. and we leak runs (except bumrah) in slog overs.

if rohit can score 200 we may win.

compare to our 2011 WC win - we had gods then vs mere men now (except kohli)

---we chased down 274 under lights ---- and we won despite SRT and VS going out cheap ---- lets face it we have nowhere near the depth to take the loss of kohli and rohit early and still fight on. we still had gambhir, kohli, dhoni, yuvraj and probably raina too behind them. a world class lineup.

On a batting-friendly pitch, Sri Lanka won the toss and chose to bat first. Zaheer (2-60), using the new ball, bowled three maiden overs and took the wicket of Upul Tharanga to leave Sri Lanka at 31/1 after 10 overs – their lowest 10-over score in the tournament. However, Mahela Jayawardene (103 not out from 88 balls, 13 fours) rebuilt the Sri Lankan innings with a superb century, helped by captain Kumar Sangakkara (48 from 67 balls, 5 fours). Nuwan Kulasekara (32 from 30 balls, 1 four, 1 six) and Thisara Perera (22 from 9 balls, 3 fours, 1 six) plundered 91 runs from the last 10 overs, lifting Sri Lanka to a formidable total of 274/6 after 50 overs.

India's run chase began badly, as Sehwag and Sachin were bowled cheaply by Lasith Malinga (2-42) to leave India at 31/2 at the 7th over. However, Gambhir (97 from 122 balls, 9 fours) rebuilt the Indian innings with an 83-run partnership for the third wicket with Kohli (35 from 49 balls, 4 fours). After Kohli was caught and bowled to leave India at 114/3, Gambhir and Dhoni (91 not out from 79 balls, 8 fours, 2 sixes) scored 109 runs for the fourth wicket, in a vicious attack on the tiring Sri Lankan bowlers. After Gambhir was bowled by Perera, Yuvraj and Dhoni ensured that India would successfully chase Sri Lanka's score, with Dhoni blasting a massive six off the final delivery. India won the match by six wickets. With the win, India secured their second World Cup, the first since 1983.[4] It was also the first time that the World Cup was won by the host nation in their own backyard (Sri Lanka, though co-hosts of the 1996 World Cup, played the final at Lahore in Pakistan).[5] Dhoni was named Man of the Match for his blistering innings of 91.

raina and yuvraj played vital roles apart from MSD is ensuring a solid middle and lower order and fighting back.

now we only have old warhorse MSD who is batting like a 3 legged cheeta.

our bowling is probably better than those days but batting is 50% of what it used to be.

I still remember yuvraj going ballistic literally in that epic t20 vs eng and launching chris broad 6 times into the dark night sky. or attacking brett lee in a touch and go situation in the QF. salut to the great fighter.

bumrah is modeling himself as the ambrose/mcgrath - pinpoint accuracy, cut and bounce. his figures show he is world class right up there in avg runs per wkt.

Code: Select all

                               test odi t20
Wickets 49 95 51
Bowling average	21.89	22.11	20.17

Eng vs NZ
Another day same story.
England won toss on a pitch where toss is boss.
Absolutely no help for bowlers from pitch.
England raising huge total.
Rest WC pressure and 2 paced pitch in second half will do.

Silver lining on the cloud: Pakistan is out today.
But agree with argument that India is unlikely to succeed beyond Semis due to middle order woes. Pant made around 50, else with Panday gone cheaply we were destined for < 300 yesterday

I wouldn’t be so uncharitable to us. Yes it’s true that the loss of Shikhar has badly affected our batting order . However unlike England after losing Roy, we did not lose multiple matches in the process.

We’ve demonstrated a level of resilience backed by strong bowling, putting on 300+ on a poor quality Edgbaston pitch against England (where BD subsequently struggled the same way 2 days later) . That pitch, as Kohli diplomatically put it, is not fit for cricket . It’s not just that it’s flat, but that it loses life within hours and in effect ‘win toss and bat’ is a winning tactic .

Arguably most pitches at WC have not been roads favoring England and it has bothered them . Any pitch with life in fact suits us.

If England win today, TSP are mostly out - they have to win by a huge margin against BD to make up NRR , which they probably won’t .

We are likely to finish 2nd unless Aus lose to SA . Whom would I rather play ? Well I’d rather we play in Old Trafford and not Edgbaston - so I’d rather we saw SA win and beat SL to finish first. We have the bowling to take on either NZ or Eng in Manchester where the pitch has life . Birmingham pitch depends entirely on the toss .

After this loss, NZ's NRR will be around 0.17 and pakis will be at -0.79. Pakis have to win by about 120 runs or more to qualify, if my calculations are correct. Not totally impossible.

Nope, Pakistan needs to win by 300+ runs to qualify. With 9 matches. each match offers only about 11% contribution to the overall NRR figure .

TSP can either score 350+ and dismiss BD for <50 or bowl first, dismiss them for 100 and with bat score 3 overs of continuous sixes .
