Kathmandu April 26: Swayamsevaks of Rashtreeya Swayamsevak Sangh, RSS, joined in for the rescue operation at the earthquake affected areas in Nepal. RSS inspired Hindu Swayamsevak Sangh in Nepal is leading the rescue operation. RSS Swayamsevaks from Kushinagar and Maharajganj Jilla, the 2 northern most districts of Uttara Pradesh and also from few Border regions of Bihar; joined the rescue operations hours after the occurrence of the great tragedy.
RSS expressed deep condolences on the sad tragedy. RSS Akhil Bharatiya Prachar Pramukh Dr Manmohan Vaidya said “RSS shares the grief and shock about devastating Earthquake with the people and expresses deep condolences and prayer for the deceased”.
RSS Sah-Sarakaryavah Dattatreya Hosabale to join Swayamsevaks from RSS and Hindu Swayamsevak Sangh in rescue operation this evening at quake hit zones in Nepal
RSS sending big guns to Nepal, which means they have taken it very seriously. Dattaji is direct yet down to earth. Based on anecdotal evidence, RSS has decent connection with communities in Nepal. But as noted earlier 20000 seems exaggerated. Right now sending so many people requires logistics of army division (which RSS definitely will not have).

I feel with rescue hopes fading only a couple of divisions of ia with addl engr units can go in and start restoring infra. Small teams won't work for such a huge area.
Dramatic aerial photographs taken just miles from the epicenter of Saturday's Nepal earthquake in Gorkha reveal entire villages reduced to rubble and flattened by mudslides.
KATHMANDU, Nepal/NEW YORK, 26 April 2015 – At least 940,000 children living in areas severely affected by yesterday's earthquake in Nepal are in urgent need of humanitarian assistance, says UNICEF. The 7.9 magnitude earthquake on 25 April, and nearly 60 aftershocks, caused vast devastation across much of the country, including more than 2,000 deaths and widespread destruction of buildings.
There have been reports of dwindling supplies of water and food, power outages, and downed communication networks. Hundreds of thousands of people spent the night sleeping in open areas, out of fear of more tremors. Heavy rain is now also reported which can further worsen the conditions. This crisis leaves children particularly vulnerable - limited access to safe water and sanitation will put children at great risk from waterborne diseases, while some children may have become separated from their families.
UNICEF is mobilizing staff and emergency supplies to meet the urgent humanitarian needs of children affected by the earthquake, focusing on water and sanitation, nutrition, education and child protection. UNICEF is already supporting tankering of water and provision of oral rehydration salts and zinc supplements to people gathered in informal settlements, and providing tents for field medical facilities, using supplies already prepositioned in the country.
UNICEF is also readying two cargo flights with a combined 120 tonnes of humanitarian supplies including medical and hospital supplies, tents and blankets, for urgent airlift to Kathmandu.

WHO South-East Asia
@WHOSEARO
WHO released USD 175 000 from its Health Emergency Fund to meet immediate needs of the people affected in #Nepal.
26 April 2015, New Delhi: The World Health Organization this morning handed over four emergency health kits comprising of medicines and medical supplies and US dollars 175 000 as the first tranche of emergency health funds to meet the immediate health needs of the earthquake affected people in Nepal.
“Within hours of the tragedy, WHO disbursed medical supplies to cover the health needs of 40 000 people for three months. These supplies are in the form of inter-agency emergency health kits and were given to hospitals in Nepal treating the injured,” WHO South-East Asia Regional Director Dr Poonam Khetrapal Singh said.
WHO also immediately made available US dollar 175,000 to the Ministry of Health and Population, Nepal, as the first tranche of South-East Asia Regional Health Emergency Fund (SEARHEF). The SEARHEF funds are aimed at meeting immediate financial needs and to fill critical gaps in the aftermath of a disaster.
Simultaneously, WHO is supporting the Ministry of Health and Population, Nepal, to continue to assess the health needs of the affected people and the damage to health facilities. Senior officials from the WHO Regional office are in Kathmandu, to reinforce WHO Nepal Office’s support to the Government of Nepal.
Other than the injured, those rendered homeless by the earthquake and are in need of immediate support for regular public health services, water and sanitation and psycho social support to deal with the trauma caused by the tragedy.
The WHO emergency kits disbursed his morning include medicines, disposables and instruments. Each kit can meet the needs of 10 000 people for three months. Each kit has a basic and supplementary unit. The basic unit is intended for use by primary health care workers with limited training. It contains non-injectable drugs, medical supplies and some essential equipment, accompanied by simple treatment guidelines. Basic equipment also has a complete sterilization set and items to help provide for clean water at the health facility. The supplementary unit contains drugs, renewable supplies and equipment needed by doctors working in first- or second-referral health facilities.
The kits, developed by WHO, can also be used for initial supply of primary health care facilities where the normal system of provision has broken down.
Reiterating all possible support, Dr Singh said WHO stands with the people and the Government of Nepal in this hour of crisis and would do everything to save lives.

Nyt
spent four years trying to write a constitution without success. Paralysis ensued until elections in November 2013 led to the unexpected rout of the previously dominant Maoists.
Nepal’s people had already become exhausted with the political paralysis, but those feelings could turn explosive if relief and rescue efforts fail in the coming weeks, analysts said. The fear of just such an outcome could spur an intense international relief effort, as an odd collection of countries — including China, India and the United States — were already cooperating on pushing Nepal’s politicians toward compromise.

^^^ These flags are but the two whole flights that landed a day ago. They were shouting four before. They are recycling now.
The bakis, chinese arent doing much.
The US isnt saying much either. At least a couple US SAR teams -- virginia task force 1, an LA police SAR team seem to be headed that way. There is some presence of USAF heavy craft on chandigarh--> kathmandu route.
Overall, chinese cant bring shit over the plateau. Not quickly enough. In a month may be. The others have to go through India.
The bakis are done -- they dont have anything else to give. The europeans are busy milking their populations for charity. It would appear so is the US, mostly. Nepal seems to be in the "worse than haiti" mould.
You need a hands on, brick by brick effort. No ICRC or catholic charity can do this one. They will be flinging mud in a few months.
SAR window will shut in a few hours for all but the hardiest survivors. Then the stench of death, disease and broken everything will take over. Most all over rural Nepal.
Hundreds or even few thousands arent getting past kathmandu and bhaktapur. You need to get the clamoring tourists out and then somehow, by road, get in tens of thousands of trained rescuers, before the PLA march in.

AMRITSAR SAHIB, Punjab (April 26, 2015)—On humanitarian ground, the apex Sikh body Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) has decided to send 100,000 food packets made from Guru Ramdas Langar (community kitchen) in Sri Darbar Sahib (Golden Temple) to the earthquake affected people of Nepal.
On direction of the SGPC president Avtar Makkar, the food has started to be prepared at the langar hall by the Sikh Sangat. The food will be sent through an aeroplane of the Indian army. For now, as many as 20 thousands food packets have already been sent via the first flight.
The SGPC has also requested the Deputy Commissioner of Sri Amritsar to help with humanitarian aid.

Nothing from the US since this:
On April 25, the U.S. Government (USG) issued a disaster declaration for Nepal due to the effects of the earthquake. In response, USAID/OFDA immediately activated a Response Management Team (RMT) in Washington, D.C., and a DART—including urban search-and-rescue (USAR) specialists from the Fairfax County Fire and Rescue Department—to support emergency response efforts in cooperation with the GoN. USAID/OFDA has also authorized an initial $1 million to address urgent needs.

THailand has sent one c130 J with team and materials
The C-17 Globemaster aircraft left Dover Air Force Base in Delaware around 11:18 am (1518 GMT) and is expected to land in Nepal on Monday afternoon, the US military said.
"The aircraft is transporting nearly 70 personnel including a USAID Disaster Assistance Response Team (DART), the Fairfax County Urban Search and Rescue team and several journalists, along with 45 square tons of cargo," Pentagon spokesman Colonel Steven Warren said.
A USAID spokeswoman said the cargo was mainly equipment to assist the aid team.
Among the personnel traveling aboard the aircraft are nearly 60 people and six specially trained dogs from a Fairfax County search and rescue team, the spokeswoman told AFP.
"We are currently preparing additional shipments," especially emergency shelter material, she said, adding that should leave the United States in the coming days.
The initial estimated cost of the military's support mission is $700,000 and there are currently no other requests for intervention, officials said.
A total of 26 US military personnel and a C-130 transport plane are currently in Nepal, where they had been due to take part in a previously scheduled training exercise.
