still 60km of rat infested desert from tal afar to the syrian border...so lots of crabs for the PMU to squash. there is a lot of killing to do.
also it seems important iraqi towns like hawija are still under isis control despite being bypassed and hemmed in by iraqi army and kurdish areas. daesh continues to kill people like sheep in such bypassed areas

attempting to do house by house SWAT VBSS in a city of 2 million with a diameter of 15km is probably unworkable if they want to finish this in months not years. and casualties from a longer fight both to iraqi army and civilians will just keep on mounting
they need to change tack here and do some armoured bull runs right into the heart of the city , maybe capture the empty area of nineveh ruins and the airport, push in more grads and howitzers and run some intimidation plays
time to get communal #blowtomodi and put pedal to the metal

instead of being cowed down by a 10:1 force ratio ISIS is infact launching daily counter attacks boldly while its the iraqis who cower back and go sikular
it aint working and its a fallacy to persist forever with what does not work.

Putin again miscalculates in his urge to be statesman and does a prithviraj chauhan....

According to #Damascus, it was #Russia Putin in person who intervene to smooth the deal of East #Aleppo.
Elijah J. Magnier @EjmAlrai 7h7 hours ago
#Damascus insisted all prisoners& bodies caught/held by #AQ, Jihadists and rebels in east #Aleppo to be delivered first, postponing the deal
Elijah J. Magnier @EjmAlrai 7h7 hours ago
Many issues negotiated (Fua and Kfarya) were postponed due to #Moscow pressure to "declare the victory" and end east #Aleppo saga.
Elijah J. Magnier @EjmAlrai 7h7 hours ago
10 ambulances entered East #Aleppo to evacuate wounded now. Russia wants to put east Aleppo behind, regardless demands from Damascus & Iran

Among the Western countries if the US are the most ambiguous, the UK the most subversive, then France is the most hypocritical.
They had one of them crushing people with a truck indisciminately, and now they cry crocodile tears for the victims of who? Al Qaeda? No, for the alleged victims of those who flushed Al Qaeda out of Aleppo.
They switched the lights of the Eiffel Tower off over their own enligthenment, which supposedly happened 300 years ago.

Looks like Putin wants to do a Khan ! 'Syria has been liberated, long live democracy'....

The vast majority of the people of Aleppo celebrate while western media is wailing hysterically about the fate of a few thousand thugs and their families. One doesn't even want to imagine the kinds of retributions we would have witnessed if the headchoppers had won, yet the mainstream media screams about fake massacres reported from discredited sources.
The world is still on it’s head, but President Assad, President Putin and their allies have won a great victory with hopefully many more to enjoy in 2017.

The Jihadi Threat: ISIS, Al Qaeda and Beyond – published this month by the United States Institute of Peace and the Wilson Centre. “The military has made major headway against ISIS, but the government has not brokered a basic power-sharing agreement among the country’s diverse Sunni, Shiite, Kurdish and other communities in the thirteen years since the fall of Saddam Hussein. The military campaign has repeatedly been out of sync with a political resolution,” http://www.forbes.com/sites/dominicdudl ... e29b53291d

At one point few years back it appeared that Assad is inches away from Saddam. Brihaspatiji had said he will survive this one just fine. I don't remember now the signs which he had mentioned. Hence brought this up to request a recap of his prognosis. Thanks.

Syria regaining Aleppo quickly is more important than killing a few miscreants and prolonging the siege.

If assad and kurds can get together in a federal system they can slowly rebuild using oil and gas exports and perhaps iran china russia soft loans. Tourism can help. Agriculture can be revived in the orchards.
For this there cannot be UN sanctions levied by spiteful players like the EU.
Usa might play ball if the kurds get their settlement.
In iraq the kurds need to get more disillusioned under the barzani dynasty before warming up to baghdad. For now usa is not keen on splitting iraq.

But assads hawkish advisers and ego will lead to disaster if he insists on reconquest of kurdish areas too. Saa will likely mutiny and depose him...with russian blessings.
The big boys are never hung up on people. They are fixated on outcomes and will find people who will deliver the outcomes.
Some really popular military commander can surely evict the soft milkfed damascus elite, co opt the sabiha strongmen and become the next king of the hilll
