Pak likely to hike defence budget amid tensions with India
Sajjad Hussain, June 10, 2025

Pakistan will unveil on Tuesday its annual federal budget for the next fiscal which is likely to see a substantial hike in defence expenditure.
The total budget size is expected to be Rs 17.6 trillion.
Finance Minister Muhammad Aurangzeb will present the budget document as a finance bill in the National Assembly.
The government eyes a record revenue target of nearly Rs 14 trillion for FY-2025-26, a 22 per cent increase over projections for the outgoing fiscal year.
It is set to target 4.2 per cent GDP growth and limit inflation to 7.5 per cent.
The proposed tax-to-GDP ratio target for FY26 is 12.3 per cent, which is still short of 14 per cent, Aurangzeb said on Monday.
The highlight of the budget would be the defence expenditure, which is expected to get broad support from the lawmakers following Pakistan's recent confrontations with India.
Tensions between India and Pakistan escalated after the April 22 Pahalgam terror attack, with India carrying out precision strikes on terror infrastructure in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir on May 7.
The on-ground hostilities from the Indian and Pakistan sides that lasted for four days ended with an understanding of stopping the military actions following talks between the directors general of military operations of both sides on May 10.
Though there is no official word about the increase in the defence expenditure, the government had endorsed an 18 per cent increase in defence spending during the budget-making process.
The Express Tribune newspaper reported last month that the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) and the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) agreed to increase the defence budget by 18 per cent to over Rs 2.5 trillion in light of the prevailing security threats.

9 billion USD will simply cover some of the losses they took and a big dent in their 68 billion dollar budget. BTW 48% of that 68 billion need to go for debt servicing. I am going to bet they are going for another round of begging across the globe for more loans.

xpost in Terroistan dhahga too..

Major news… earlier this afternoon, Muhammad Shahzeb Khan, a Pakistani citizen residing in Canada, was extradited to the United States on charges of attempting to provide material support to ISIS and attempting to commit acts of terrorism.

In the fall of last year, Khan allegedly planned to travel from Canada to New York and carry out a mass shooting in support of ISIS at a Jewish Center in Brooklyn.

Khan allegedly planned his attack to occur on October 7, 2024 — the one year anniversary of the Hamas terrorist attack in Israel.

Thankfully, the great work of FBI teams and our partners exposed those plans and shut them down — and Khan was arrested by Canadian authorities on September 4, 2024.

He has now arrived in the U.S. and will face American justice.

This case is a reminder of the constant threat of terrorism facing every corner of the world — as well as the disturbing rise in threats against our Jewish communities. Your FBI will continue to be on guard and work around the clock to counter them.

FWIW,
https://resonantnews.com/2025/06/09/pak ... ly-choice/
Facing this strategic setback, Pakistan is exploring Italy’s Common Anti-Air Modular Missile – Extended Range (CAMM-ER) and Germany’s InfraRed Imaging System – Tail/Thrust Vector Controlled (IRIS-T) to counter India’s precision-strike capabilities. Reports indicate Pakistan is likely to favor the German IRIS-T system.
...
The IRIS-T SLM has demonstrated a high kill ratio in Ukraine, intercepting over 60 Russian missiles and drones since October 2022, including systems with technological similarities to the BrahMos’s Russian predecessor, the P-800 Oniks.
...
IRIS-T’s infrared seeker and high maneuverability are better suited to counter the BrahMos’s speed and low-altitude flight profile compared to the CAMM-ER’s radar-based system, which may struggle with the missile’s stealth features.
...
Germany’s discreet promotion of the IRIS-T to Pakistan, as noted in defense reports, aligns with its economic interests and defense diplomacy, particularly through the ESSI. In contrast, Italy’s alignment with NATO and stronger ties with India may complicate CAMM-ER exports to Pakistan.
...
Germany’s participation in India’s Project 75I submarine contract could create diplomatic tensions if it supplies IRIS-T to Pakistan. However, back-channel talks suggest Germany is prioritizing economic gains over strategic alignment with India.

I hope we have sufficient leverage with Germany in defence purchases. The recent loan approval from IMF and World Bank shows that Pakistan is just a front for the western countries to check the rise of India.

As Karan M had said before, France offered aircraft avionics upgradation to Pakistan and we were forced to do buy an expensive Mirage upgradation from France.

SUPARCO’s space projects receive Rs5,418 million budgetary allocation

The federal government has allocated Rs. 5,418.523 million for Space and Upper Atmosphere Research Commission (SUPARCO) in the Public Sector Development Programme (PSDP) 2025-26 to advance Pakistan’s space capabilities through six ongoing and new projects.

An amount of Rs. Rs 4,418.523 million has been allocated for the four ongoing projects while Rs. 1,000 million has been reserved for the two new projects.

Among the ongoing projects, the highest allocation of Rs. 1,518.523 million has been made for the “Establishment of Pakistan Space Centre” while significant funding of Rs. 1,300 million has been earmarked for the “Establishment of Deep Space Astronomical Observatories in Pakistan”.

The Pakistan Optical Remote Sensing Satellite (PRSS-O2) program has received Rs. 1,200 million allocation while Rs. 400 million will go for Pakistan Multi-Mission Communication Satellite System (PakSat-MM1).

Among the new space exploration projects, Rs. 600 million has been allocated for the ambitious “Pakistan Manned Space Mission” program and Rs. 400 million for development of the “Pakistan Lunar Exploration Rover” (PLEXR) for the Change E-8 Mission, representing Pakistan’s first foray into lunar exploration.

These allocations demonstrate Pakistan’s commitment to developing indigenous space capabilities, including satellite communications, remote sensing, and now manned space missions and lunar exploration.

The economic survey results are out.
Economic Survey shows GDP, investment targets missed, inflation remains under control
Islamabad: The Economic Survey of Pakistan has shown that the government managed to consolidate economic recovery by avoiding a “sugar rush” and stabilizing the external sector but it again could not meet the most critical targets of giving credible economic growth figures and increasing investment.
The economic growth rate is 2.7%, which is a right way to go for sustainable growth to avoid boom and bust cycles, said the Finance Minister while referring to historical patterns of achieving higher growth rates and then collapsing next year. However, the claimed growth rate is below the target of 3.6% and is also disputed by the independent economists.
However some are struggling to balance lahori logic with the underlying madrassa maths.
But he struggled to defend the 2.7% claimed economic growth figure for the outgoing fiscal year and offered to set up a committee of experts to review the opposite point of view.

“The data has been provided by the government and we will stick to it”, said the Finance Minister while responding to questions about discrepancies in the data used to work out the 2.7% economic growth number. The Finance Minister said that he was open to review the numbers being highlighted to point out discrepancies.

Data integrity is absolutely critical and there is always a room for improvement, said the Finance Minister. He said that the government can constitute a steering committee having members from the private sector to review the data.

The independent statisticians and economists have challenged the government’s claim that the economy grew by 2.7% in this fiscal year. To achieve this figure, the economy has to grow by 5.3% in the April-June period with large scale manufacturing ought to be growing over 8%. {Actual large scale manufacturing growth has been reported as negative} :D
Regarding queries about low growth coupled with high poverty and unemployment, the Finance Minister said that the government will not get into a sugar rush and will absolutely stay on the course of the economic reforms agenda.

To another question, the Finance Minister said that there was a need to control the population growth, as the current rate of 2.6% was unsustainable. One of the measures to control population is “delinking population from the National Finance Commission, " said the Finance Minister in a policy statement that will set the tone for the August NFC talks. {More effective than contraceptives}

While commenting on the plight of the agriculture sector, the Minister said that had the agriculture sector growth remained at the last year’s level, the overall economic growth rate could have been close to 3.6%. {And next year there will be less water due to IWT abrogation by Mudi}
But the government missed the tax target by a huge margin of over Rs1 trillion.
The government has claimed that the “industry has shown a growth of 4.77% ”. Despite an increase in the production of coal (2.84%), the mining & quarrying industry contracted by 3.4% because of a decrease in production of natural gas by 7.05%, crude oil output decreased 14.7%.

The large scale manufacturing, has also witnessed a negative growth of 1.53% with mixed trend in the production of various groups.

In Pakistan’s agricultural heartlands of Punjab and Sindh, a crisis unfolded during the 2024-25 cropping year, slashing production of the nation’s five major crops—wheat, cotton, rice, sugarcane, and maize—by 13.5%. Cotton bore the heaviest blow, plummeting 30.7%, followed by maize at 14.7%, wheat at 8.9%, rice at 1.4%, and sugarcane at 3.9%. This decline was not the result of a single misstep but a convergence of policy failures, climate volatility, water scarcity, and structural inefficiencies. Below is a factual, data-driven analysis of the causes behind this agricultural collapse.

Why do India press now call Asim Munir by his new rank? Wouldn’t be better to address him as Army Chief Asim Munir without an additional ‘rank qualifier’? That would be a better way to keep reminding him that he did not earn his rank. A bunker baby does not deserve a promo.

The Paki budget is built on Madrassa Mathematics.

https://thefridaytimes.com/14-Jun-2025/ ... book-costs
TFT:
But the newly released figures for free textbook allocations in the 2024–25 fiscal year raise a more precise and troubling question: why does it cost nearly ten times more to provide textbooks in KP and Sindh than in Punjab?
...
The numbers speak volumes. Punjab, with an estimated 12 million students enrolled in public schools, has allocated Rs 1.9 billion for free textbooks. That comes to just Rs 158 per student. By contrast, KP and Sindh, with approximately 5.9 million and 5.5 million students, have allocated Rs 8.545 billion and Rs 7.5 billion, respectively. This translates into Rs 1,449 per student in KP and Rs 1,364 in Sindh.
. A May 2024 report by journalist Kasim Abbasi revealed that Pakistan adds nearly 700,000 children to its out-of-school population every year. Between 2016–17 and 2021–22, the total grew from 22.02 million to 26.21 million—a 4.2 million increase in just six years.
In Punjab, the numbers are puzzling for a different reason. In 2023–24, the province reportedly distributed free textbooks to just 2.68 million students at a cost of Rs 2.1 billion, amounting to Rs 783.58 per student. Yet in 2024–25, it plans to provide textbooks to a staggering 12 million students, with an allocation of only Rs 1.9 billion, or Rs 158 per student. This represents a nearly fivefold increase in coverage accompanied by a sharp drop in per-student cost—all during a period of persistent inflation. Such a drastic reduction in cost defies economic trends and demands scrutiny.

In Punjab, the madrasa system is so evolved that you need only ONE book for ALL knowledge. I am sure Rs. 158 is sufficient for that.
