Unfortunately, Austin like other big cities like Dallas, Houston, and San Antonio are run by DemoCraps. Gov.Abbott is trying to legislate it.darshan wrote: And then start running down Texas. The people that I have to deal with are very kind, hospitable and have been very good to the two of us. But somehow I feel there is a trace of artificiality in that and also it is the result of trying to impress one. They I think are very jealous of the old world and its background and culture and this results in an aggressive inferiority complex. As for their state of morality, there is none. People seem to delight in trying to outwit each other by any means, mainly crooked. The politicians are racketeers and big business has a tight grip on everything in the country. The small country trader and the farmer I think have their hands securely tied by the big men. I do hope that our country proceeds with caution and doesn't get entirely under the influence of the States."[18]
Goes both ways - as a Malloo, all I see is the US has started applying coconut oil on everything (from gums to guns), mindless in-law serials that they binge on and their presidential debate has started copying Asianet’s cookery shows were everyone talks nonsense at same time, complete with flies and mamidarshan wrote:everything's looking like US within India.

San Ramon Mayoral Candidate Criticized For Skipping Muslim Forum

SAN RAMON (CBS SF) — A San Ramon mayoral candidate received criticism earlier this week for declining to take part in an election forum sponsored by a Muslim civil rights and advocacy group.
A statement Monday from the Council on American-Islamic Relations’s (CAIR) San Francisco Bay Area Office condemned Sanat Sethy for what its leaders said was his “Islamophobia and fear-mongering rhetoric” in justifying not participating in a Sept. 30 San Ramon mayoral candidates forum online.
“Sanat Sethy made his intent to divide voters based on bigotry very clear and in doing so missed out an opportunity to pitch his platform and positions,” Aliza Kazmi, San Francisco CAIR’s advocacy manager, said in a statement.

Once a professor brings in significant grants and their salaries are paid mostly from these grants, prof attitudes become arrogant linearly proportional to their salaries. This is true even of public universities. They publish mediocre papers and become subject matter experts in obscure areas, then they’re set for life. Universities are reluctant to do anything until the prof gets caught in something criminal.Vayutuvan wrote:Academic freedom - once a professor attains tenure, it is impossible to fire the professor. Think that the balance is tilting towards Trump- Pence ticket. It's not about the damage control but more about the fact that a Left leaning news outlet like the NYT published this. Are they reading the tea leaves for a GOP victory already? Why bring this up?chetak wrote:Styxhexenhammer666@Styx666Official·10h

In 2016 almost all predictions including the last minute ones were wrong, to the extent NYT projected Hillary Clinton as President till they declared Trump. In a lot of Trump Red states, Republicans seem to have increased voter registrations this time. Many current prediction models are still stuck the same way they did before so in some what-if scenarios such as what if Trump gives the same surprise as in 2016 only a very few Trump states turn blue that too within 1%. So you need to check balance tilting away from Trump from last 2016 election than tilting towards Trump as media polls are not accurate.Mukesh.Kumar wrote: Think that the balance is tilting towards Trump- Pence ticket. I don't think that this may affect voting as already people are casting votes in advance voting and through postal ballots. Streisand effect notwithstanding.
But yes, should Trump win they will use this as a fig leaf of why the Biden- Harris ticket lost. In that case will we see a Michelle/ Chelsea ticket next time?
Edited Later:
Errata it was the New York Post and not the usual suspects if NYT that published this. Still feel that the Biden candidacy is on whether grounds.

Sikhs put pressure on officials to solve 'hate crime' homicide

Harpreet Sandhu, executive director of the American Sikh Caucus Committee based in Washington, D.C., classified Parmjit Singh’s murder as a hate crime, causing “deep, deep sorrow” not only to his family but the entire Sikh community.
He was incredulous when describing how the court could release the suspect for lack of evidence when, he said, that evidence included 17 different witnesses; GPS locations from the suspect’s phone showing him in the park at the time of the crime, going home afterward and returning the next day to retrieve his car; and the suspect seen jumping a fence and running away from the park.
“Evidence, witnesses, and yet this judge has said there is a lack of evidence and witnesses. Granted, we are hoping that the district attorney and the city of Tracy Police Department will file this case immediately with the evidence to be produced in front of the judge,” Sandhu said.

After the last presidential election, I have stopped believing in polls completely. We can only know the result after the election, I refuse to be manipulated anymore.suryag wrote:Folks what's up with these poll numbers every poll is showing biden up by 5pc or more but the crowds at trump's rallies are huge. What's this paradox?
Many people who support Trump are not answering polls, or they answer falsely to avoid retribution of being accused as a racist. It isn’t worth upsetting relations in a work place or professional setting. People like myself nod their head and agree, Trump is bad, and only my closest friends and family know my political leanings. Trump supporters are not those wearing red hats and paraphernalia. They are quiet.suryag wrote:Folks what's up with these poll numbers every poll is showing biden up by 5pc or more but the crowds at trump's rallies are huge. What's this paradox?
the same as what happened the last time around. It didn't add up then too.suryag wrote:Folks - my question was not to trigger an election discussion but more towards understanding the political mindset of the voters in the US. What i see there are huge crowds in trump rallies despite the pandemic, obviously they are not being paid and bussed to the venues. With most people sitting at home, they will vote.Ambar wrote:The crowds will be present where there are actual campaign rallies, Trump is doing actual campaign rallies where as much of Biden's campaigning has been through ads and him reading off scripts in front of a camera. Again, the poll numbers for Biden will hold up if those claiming to support him actually go out and vote. Looking at the early voting trends of the minorities , it looks like Biden's election to lose. Brad Parscale and Bill Stepien have really not served Trump well, and Trump has himself not helped his chances much by failing to articulate his govt's performance & constant flip-flopping on issues.
Bottom line: US polling is incorrect and there is considerable variation from state to state.suryag wrote:Folks - my question was not to trigger an election discussion but more towards understanding the political mindset of the voters in the US.
