Nehru is deserving of a lot of criticism. But not on this matter. The offer to India of Security council seat in place of Chuna is a fiction. Therefore the question of Nehru turning that down doesn't arise.
....
Not entirely fiction.. rather 'informal suggestion'

A clear reference to it is made by Mr Nehru himself. It can be found in 'Jawahar lal Nehru Letters to Chief Ministers 1947-1957, Volume 4.'

The specific reference is there in a letter dated 02nd August 1955.

You can find it in an online archive using Google.

Welcome to the real world. Welcome to what million s of Brits have to put up with on a daily basis. You let the these backward savages into Britain, you refuse to deport them, you allow a two-tier police service.

All you did was call us racists & bigots.

MPs plead for security help after Tory minister quits over death threats
Tory Mike Freer reveals he avoided murder by ‘skin of my teeth’ – sparking push for greater protection
The MP said he was shocked to learn that Ali Harbi Ali – who went on to kill Southend West MP David Amess – had previously watched his Finchley office.
Mr Freer said: “I was very lucky that actually on the day I was due to be in Finchley, I happened to change my plans and came into Whitehall. Otherwise who knows whether I would have been attacked or survived an attack. He said he came to Finchley to attack me.”

The minister said he had also received threats from the group Muslims Against Crusades “about coming to stab me” and found “mock molotov cocktails on the office steps”.

The arson attack on his north London constituency office in December was “the final straw”, he said.

Not exactly in the Indo -UK scheme of things but nevertheless, here is our erstwhile colonial master, setting off deepavalli fireworks a bit early in the year, a neat £17 millions worth... a good show indeed

British Missile, Trident misfires again. Last test in 2016 was also a failure.

Highly embarrassing for both UK & US manufacturer as each missile cost £17m.

Defence sources insist Trident "could absolutely fire in a real world situation" if needed.

Late Soviet Britain: why materialist utopias fail
This event launched Abby Innes's new book, Late Soviet Britain: Why Materialist Utopias Fail.

Why has the United Kingdom, historically one of the strongest democracies in the world, become so unstable? What changed?

In Late Soviet Britain Abby Innes argues that a major part of the answer lies in the transformation of the British state. The book shows how Britain championed radical economic liberalisation only to weaken and ultimately break its own governing institutions. The crisis of democracy in rich countries has brought forward many urgent analyses of neoliberal capitalism, but Abby Innes explores for the first time how the 'governing science' in Leninist and neoliberal revolutions fails for many of the same reasons. The Thatcherite - or ‘neoliberal’ - project of withdrawing the state from the market rests on the same fallacy as Soviet planning: that a self-regulating materialist utopia is possible. The practical result in both systems is stifling bureaucratic overreach, economic stagnation, and ultimately political and state failure, only this time around the crisis is of liberal democracy. Soviet and neoliberal regimes may have been utterly opposed in their political values, but as Abby explains, when we grasp the kinship in their closed-system, deterministic forms of economic reasoning and their strategies for government, we may better understand the causes of state failure in Britain today, in what remains an inescapably open-system reality.

Meet our Speakers and Chair

Abby Innes (@innes_abby) is Associate Professor of Political Economy in the European Institute at LSE. She has published widely on the political economy of Central Europe and drew on this background for the comparison of Soviet and neoliberal economic regimes in Late Soviet Britain. In more recent years Abby has focused her research and teaching on the political economy of the green transition in Europe..

‘Why are you asleep?’ Rahul Gandhi pleads with India’s low castes to vote out Modi

“Why are you all asleep? Don’t you see you’re being fooled? There are hardly any of you in these institutions. You are 73% of the population. What kind of society is this where you don’t make any decisions?”
Gandhi is the fifth generation of the illustrious first family that used to tower over Indian politics but which has lost some of its aura in recent years. As he makes his third attempt to defeat the Hindu nationalist prime minister, Narendra Modi, after defeats in 2014 and 2019, he has pitched himself as an unlikely man of the people, calling for a “caste census” that would shine a light on who owns wealth and wields power.
Although Gandhi used to be an indifferent speaker, the long march with its endless rallies has lifted his oratory. His voice carries more conviction. He is more adept at working a crowd. Long dismissed as an irrelevant dilettante by the ruling Bharatiya Janata party of prime Minister Modi and scorned as an entitled dynast, Gandhi has proved on this march – and on his first march last year which took him from south to north – that he can handle the grind of grassroots politics and connect with ordinary Indians.

India, says Gandhi, is in the dark about caste, the rigid Hindu system of social hierarchy. “You’re nowhere,” he tells the crowds. “You have to find out what is your share in the country’s wealth. How much wealth do the 73% castes have in this country? This will reveal everything.”

India’s affirmative action of the past few decades has been based on estimates. The last caste census was in 1931, under British rule. The findings of a census in 2011 were never made public. Late last year, the government of Bihar state, ruled by a local party, became the first to carry out a caste census. It revealed that more than two-thirds of its 130 million people belonged to so-called “backward” or marginalised communities, a much higher figure than most people imagined. Gandhi is demanding a similar census in all of India’s 28 states. He wants more clarity on the respective sizes of each category of caste that has been the basis for affirmative action.

While not strictly related to India, this is one data point on how much influence RoPers and Islamists have in UK

https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-m ... r-68446061

This was a by-election in the same constituency where RoPers from Pakistan se*ually abused tens of white underage British girls. Everyone turned a blind eye to it from social services to the police for fear of upsetting the RoPers…

This election was dominated by the events in Gaza. Labour had refused to put up a candidate as they knew they would lose- they were unpopular as the party has refused to completely condemn Israel. Conservatives never had a chance. The guy who won was out and out pandering to them - his election materials starting off with Wassalam aleikum etc…

Interesting times ahead for Bartania!

officially "cambridge" has nothing to do with it. These jokers are on a narrative building spree, trying to build up the dimwit dynast's "reputation" as an intellectual

The #Congress IT Cell claims that #RahulGandhi visited cambridge university for an official lecture.

But the reality is all that he did was he attended an event organized by Indian overseas congress and delivered his "speech" in a cafeteria

I had no doubt in my mind. If it had turned out out that any department in Cambridge Univ. in its formal capacity had invited him to present a lecture or a talk of any sort, their reputation would be in the tank (same as Ms. Nidhi Razdan teaching at Harvard). There are enough pearls of wisdom from Shri Rahul Gandhi on the internet that an un-padh ganwaar would be able to sort this out. Here's an example....I dont know if this is real (I think it is real) but this was his own commentary about how inclusive his Bharat Jodo yaatra was. No one was excluded. Some in the audience are laughing.... You have to jack up the volume a bit to hear one guy in the audience going ROTFL. His seriousness and dramatic flair is amazing to hear, actually.

drnayar ji,

maybe, we should also follow suit and ban such ownership, even partial ownership

many of India's prominent visual and print media have foreign ownership, embedded in them, mainly of the anti India and partisan variety
