Re: India Nuclear News and Discussion 4 July 2011
I have a grand idea that I'm sure will tickle the "holy fathers" and "bishops" and their tribe of nuclear Einsteins and Newtons. They don't want power but need it for their luxurious lifestyles-the cassocked crowd that is.Instead of building new N-reactors,we could go back to a fantastic sustainable source of energy that requires very little infrastructure, that will produce energy whether it rains or shines;the problem with solar and wind energy, and is completely non-polluting literally to boot! In fact,a positive contribution can be made by these venerable leaders and pillars of the church and will allow them to also prove their patriotic spirit. The answer my friends is a variation of that great invention of the Raj........
....The (turbo) Treadmill!
Father's to the left and right, bishops to the fore, all to the tune of that great hymn "Onward Christian Soldiers",the entire brigade nay divisions of the "flock" can stomp and sing to their hearts content their favourite hymns and songs, shouting "hallelujahs!", giving a whole new meaning to the word "power",produced in the process by the turbo treadmill @! The Rs.500 + biryani being paid to them allegedly through the holy Joes, will be a befitting wage ,more than that of casual workers and equal to that of the JNREGU*&^% wasters wages too. However, sadly, the holy Joes will not be able to use the child "soldiers",as some of their cronies-foreign NGOs might strenuously object!
In fact this could become a whole new health fad.Instead of using electricity to power the gym treadmills, the treadmills produce power! The Japanese are doing just that with the millions of footfalls at public places used heavily like railway stations, malls, etc. This will also help drastically reduce obesity in India which the media informs us today is growing rapidly. The Church could lead the world in this revolutionary idea, which I'm donating to them for free in the interests of mankind.I'm sure that the anti-N Power protesters cannot object and would not mind being chained to the mill. This way the GOI can keep them safely under control too!

Philip Saar, who will save the heathens from their wrath? The lowly SDRE Xtians living in huts will continue to feel the pinch of energy shortage, while the chosen few will be too happy to throw a few more rupees at them to keep them tied to their faith. The few who know the truth are too busy counting the money in their bank accounts to care for the poor.
The Hindoo nation cannot even supply electricity to its beepul. How can it be a soopahpower??

Koodankulam: TN panel members seek green impact, safety reports
http://forums.bharat-rakshak.com/postin ... f=1&t=6005
I am not sure whether the whole Koodankulam issue is handled well by the Central government. This again shows 'no bother' attitude of Congress govt unless an issue becomes a firy one and makes a threatening impact on public votes, then only central govt wakes up. this is again supporting my argument that Dili is not only far away but also not willing to address some states' issues or some people's issues.
I strongly think that Koodankulam nuclear plant should start producing electricity. But Central government has to do certainly actions.
First preparing the public opinion and address their fears in the new context where Japanese news have really given fear of those who are living nearby. In stead of looking at these people as enemies or as those try to block the nuclear project Government should proactively engage with the people and try to address their concerns.
When Tsunami came to South India water came into Kalpakkam Units, there was no effort to stop these water afterwards or any protection against such threats. We need to plan for such disasters such as Earth Quakes and also sea water coming inside the plants. I am yet to be convinced that the government does care to assure people on the one hand and make efforts to protect all these Nuclear plants in the case of natural disasters or even any terror attacks from outside.
People in these areas will certainly understand if govt takes people's suggestions and also reassure them about safety and also show initiatives in action by building some stone walls near the seashores. Also it is essential to get some of these folks some jobs within the vicinity (not all). without local people's involvement in terms of jobs and participation such issues will keep on raising. I hope this nuclear plant will start working soon.

Strongly denying reports in a section of the media that the protestors had toned down their approach and that the Catholic diocese had withdrawn from the campaign, People’s Movement Against Nuclear Energy (PMANE) coordinator S P Udayakumar said no one in their group had made any such statement.

All this is fine and dandy in theory but as per the horses mouth ( multiple interviews with the church leaders and their "flock"), they clearly mention that they are dead against N-plants itself and want it scrapped.
So, not sure what kind of bargaining can be done when such mindsets are already adopted?
Re: India Nuclear News and Discussion 4 July 2011
These asses will never understand or want to understand, having being so indoctrinated by their godfathers, havingtheir own diabolical agenda, the subversion of the country. These cassocked clowns are the Indian equivalent of the ultra-right wing religious fanatics in the US who describe themselves as Christians. Here is a test of their genuinessess. Why don't the holy fathers of the Catholic Church who are spearheading these movements ,NGOs and these EJ entities go and demonstrate outside the embassies and consulates of the US and western nations who want to SELL India their outdated N-plants with minimal liabiliity? Why are there no demos outside the US consulate in Chennai?
If thay refuse to listen to reasonable voices and those of the reputed scientific experts and no less than a personage than our revered ex-Pres.Kalam,then I fear they should all be relocated to the A&N islands where the Jaraws and Onges and other tribes living there can teach them the viru-tues of sustainable living, without electricity, piped water,et al.Or else they can ask their western godfathers to help them migrate to an Aamish community in the US or some other western nation that does not use N-power at all!
If demos go beyond the limit, then the heavy ahnd of the law should be usd without fail. The GOI should also immediately declare KKM s a nationals ecurity asset and provide the plant and tehnical staff every possible kind of protection possible. It is a national asset costing thosusands of crores ,with more reactors of this type to be built in India, and quislings and catspaws must be exposed and face their just rewards for treason.Foreign NGOs can take their protests tpo their own countries and demo to their hreart's content!

Tomorrow if the Church leaders are against science and maths in schools, does the department of education has to present the safety concerns too?sum wrote:dead against N-plants itself and want it scrapped.
How come other countries like the South Korea, France, etc. where Christians are actually in majority and nuclear work is ongoing, do not have such issues? How come it never happened in Europe & America that people stopped workers reaching nuclear plants repeatedly without any policing to prevent such actions?
How come the law enforcement become religious?
This does not look like it has got anything to do with religion.
Re: India Nuclear News and Discussion 4 July 2011
Absolutely agreed, Philip. It is only the small set of leaders who refuse to see reason who need to be dealt with severely, yes severely by law. The simple folks are being misled. This small group is determined not to let KKNPP function at all. There is therefore neither any point in answering their 50 questions nor negotiating with them.Philip wrote:If demos go beyond the limit, then the heavy hand of the law should be usd without fail. The GOI should also immediately declare KKM s a nationals ecurity asset and provide the plant and technical staff every possible kind of protection possible.
Re: India Nuclear News and Discussion 4 July 2011
I am not sure if this was discussed already but my 2 cents to this. Jaya wants to come across as "secular", before elections she had promised the Xtians that the converts who are SC's or ST's will be given reservation as well. No progress on that and one group has already met Vishkanya on that topic. Maybe Jaya plans to use this as leverage and say "Look I could not get you reservations but I did help you with the Koodankulam movement din't I?".
I feel any use of force by authorities will ring death knell to the Koodankulam project as it will be used up by the p-secs and the hardliner Xtian forces in the nation to cry victim and protray it as the heavy handedness and "persecution" of the Xtians by the Hindoos. Good fodder for atrocity literature and intervention by EU, US on the lines of the Godhra riots. Jaya already remembers her the smacketh she was handed by electorate for her right actions on suspending Govt workers when they refused to work. It will be the perfect plank for communal-hued agitation, least on our priorities in our nation's march to getting out of poverty and towards a middle income nation status. The Dravidian racist parties have already started salivating!

Koodankulam officials bewildered by the questions raised by the (christian church supported!) protestors
News from popular Tamil daily DINA MALAR. All clasified details and political rhetoric from these innocent fishermen that too questions in Hindhi and Malayalam confirms suspision that this is an act of foreign elements and elements outside the tamilnadu state is trying to scutle the operation when it is about to begin!
Rough translation.
The 25 of 50 questions raised reportedly by innocent fishermen(!) includes, the location of reactor, technical details, methods of filling uranium ! detailed operational report, country of origin of uranium being bought, recycle technology(!), route of uranium transportation(!), cost of project and complete details, the ill effects of this project when considering the good(!) relationship with china, pakistan, and sri lanka & maldives (!!!!!!), the details of agrement between countries suppliying nukclear fuel(!!!!), whether any (military use of) atomic wepons wll be produced or not ??!!!! etc.
P.S. Interestingly majority on the readers are aginst these anti national protestors and firmly with the GOI to arrest these religious idiots and take the India to move forward with its economic agenda ! Tamilnadu's literacy rate improvement has its own advantage ! Good !

Why Kudankulam is untenable
http://www.thehindu.com/opinion/lead/ar ... epage=true
In this forum some people are intentionally creating a picture that it is only a few bunch of Christians who are protesting. This is ridiculous. The church is with those who protest but it is also Catholic church and secular Christians and not EJs as claimed. Some in this forum do not clearly seem to read the news items rather some are not even familiar to this place. They try to picture as if it is Christians who protest and Hindus who support Koodankulam. read the news items seriously. Congress govt has also messed up by saying this electricity will be supplied to Srilanka while threat to the local people are not taken seriously. Hindu Munnani is strong in this place. They also supported this safety. Read Hindu article which provides a good case for engaging with the local people rather than confronting them.
South Tamil Nadu is very neglected area in terms of infrastructure. Even when Industries come up a few people protest then such growth does not happen. There is a need for real development in this area. But one has to realise the fact that there are also a large number of people who need to be educated and become aware of the importance of industries and investments in this area. But this in no way allow the congress govt to move away from addressing the concerns and fears of the local people about the Nuclaer plant which has to be addressed.

Techie clicks Barc campus, booked
Was it out of curiosity or spy work??? At any rate bad and good news. Bad that all this happening .... good that they have caught him.R Mehanathan, 24, is a service engineer at the Bangalore Integrated System Solutions. He came to Mumbai on October 10 to install software programmes in computer systems at the Barc Material Processing Division. Mehanathan's company got the contract to service and repair computer systems supplied to Barc. Mehanathan was charged under the Official Secrets Act. He was let off after his employer was informed. "Mehanathan entered the Barc premises with a valid pass. He managed to clear the security check at the entry point. He was caught while leaving the Barc premises around 6.15pm," said Quaiser Khalid, additional commissioner of police (east region).

Re: India Nuclear News and Discussion 4 July 2011
In simple the congress government does not want anyone to protest democratically. They wish to put down all those who raise voices against their corruption and their closed door deals and their unbothered protection of the lives of the people.
When Anna protested they said it is the Hindutva movement which is behind it. So called the movement as fundamentalist sponsored movement!
When Baba Ramdev protested against corruption they called it RSS sponsored and thus wanted to manipulate it as extremism and treated it as if a threat to the nation!
When Catholic Church join in the protest the congress government blames it as foreign influence!
It goes on. The simple logic for them public opinion, fear and a willingness to reform our system is not important rather how to make money out of everything. How to come to power by manipulating public and people? How to make people fools by setting one group against another.
For me religious leaders should join hands in throwing this govt and take people's voices and concerns seriously. In any democracy opposing any initiatvive becomes part of the process of eveyone learning about it and engaging together. It is not imposing on some their own ideas of develoipment and eliminating all other voices by negativising them or threatening them to use power.

Re: India Nuclear News and Discussion 4 July 2011
^^Joshvajohn ji , you have again started trolling.Congress has never said that Church is behind the protests. They will never do so.After all christians are their votebank. Even media was and still is hesitating to report this story as it concerns the Church.Only when it was impossible to hide the open involvement of the Church then they started to report it(a couple of media outlets) but the story was never highlighted , lest it hurt the feeling of Christian religious fundamentalist thugs.
You have unnecessarily dragged RSS and hindutva into the discussion. They never spearheaded the movements of Anna ji and Baba Ramdev ji.Whereas in Koodankulam the Church has actively organised and led the protests against Nuclear power project( in a power starved state and country). Is it not an act of treason.
Howcome the protests started only after the project is almost complete.Looks to me a straightforward case of forces inimical to both the nation as well as TN , at work. And Where are they getting there funds from? After all these are not spontaneous protests.Just look at the timing. The project is more than 99% complete and is ready to be go online and suddenly the protestors start showing up.
Now there might be some hindus participating.I will not refute it.But it is the church which is pulling the strings with the support of perennial traitors(lefties).
But this time church has bitten more than it can chew.As Abhishekcc ji said and I quote"If there is anything the Hindu middle class hates, it is someone toying with their (hard earned) wealth creating opportunities".This will backfire heavily on Church and their fundamentalist thugs.

“We aren’t gods to say there’ll be no tsunami or earthquake here,” says Bishop A. Jude Paulraj of the Palayamkottai diocese of the Roman Catholic church. “There may be safeguards but the danger is enormous. We feel that energy should be produced by safer methods, such as water, wind and solar power. And this isn’t a ‘Christian’ protest. It is for the future of humanity.”
Adds Fr F. Jeyakumar, the parish priest of Idinthakarai, “This fishing village is thickly populated with Roman Catholics, whereas Koodankulam is a Hindu village. We can’t turn our backs on the people when they come to us with their problems. We aren’t taking the lead, but we are supporting the cause. The funds come from the people themselves and the accounts are maintained by a financial committee set up by the villagers.”
The protest is slowly gathering a state-wide—and even south India-wide—character. Seven members of the Sunni Students Federation travelled from Kozhikode to support the cause. Says Abdul Kalam, general secretary of the federation’s Kerala unit, “If a disaster strikes Koodankulam, within an hour, the radiation will spread to Thiruvananthapuram. Places right up to Ernakulam will be affected. We have sought a meeting with the chief minister of Kerala to solicit support for bringing this project to an end.
Re: India Nuclear News and Discussion 4 July 2011
Its one thing to exercise democratic right to protest and another to use it to subvert national aspirations.
Re: India Nuclear News and Discussion 4 July 2011
but the point is this:
When nuclear companies are unwilling to stake their financial health on these claims of “100% safety,” how can the government ask local residents to risk their lives?
Re: India Nuclear News and Discussion 4 July 2011
Because nothing is 100% safe - not even the lithium ion battery in your laptop.

Re: India Nuclear News and Discussion 4 July 2011
There are two groups of protestors. One group wants to shut down the Koodankulam project altogether as a matter of principle. This group will protest for everything which needs to be a bit more careful engagement in challenging them. Second one is concerned with Safety of people in Kanyakumari, Tiruvendram, Tirunelveli and others. I think the local group should mobilize other people in other parts of india who are living near other nuclear institutions and put pressure on Government of India to come out clearly with a policy and protection of people. When Tsunami came in South India, Kalpakkam nuclear centre was surrounded with water and they had to switch off the centre. I am sure regular safety measures are in place but I am not sure whether a bit of extraordinary safety measures is in place or even the govt should clarify and invest in some extrasafety measures in and around these places. One should also understand the fact that there are lots of rumours and ignorance about the nulear plants. Some parties are also politicising the issues.
Rather than addressing these questions the govt and people should not engaging in religionising the protests. If the govt does not assure this to people this protest is going to spread soon to other places and then no one can do any thing about it. I am for the nuclear energy but govt needs to assure people at this time. the fear is spread and is real because of the global and recent issues relating nuclear plants. Secondly govt should take some of the safety issues seriously. Otherwise in India no other place will accommodate another nuclear plant! This issue needs to be handled very carefully.

Are there alternatives besides protesting? I don't know the history about how the site came to be originally selected, but certainly the recent decision to build more plants at the site was announced by the government prior to holding any public hearing.ramana wrote:Its one thing to exercise democratic right to protest and another to use it to subvert national aspirations.
It goes on.
Please ket us not relate protest of ANNA HAZARE, BABA RAMDEV, to this issue. Those issues of corruption is 'obvious' and we should welcome any body coming out strongly against it, irrespective of whetehr they are Hindu or Christian or Muslim. I am sure, every common man will support it even if some christian or muslim group takes it up against Govt, like they have supported Ramdev & Anna. More over, corruption is very much Desi and created by we Indians only. (Of course, thanks to congress sarkar!)
Where as the current KKM issue is suspected to be created by some un known foreign element. Why should a common fisherman very much worried about the Indian relationship between Chines and paki's !! why ???? The concern now is why should chirstian leaders fail to see Indian Interest in the project. I was born and brought up in Tamilnadu (who was denied the option of studying Hindhi at school !) and no way one common village fisherman from tamilnadu can write questions in Hindi and Malayalam !!

Actually, during Annaji's campaign, it was said by Church that this is not the 'right' way to protest, IIRC. Now this is some way to protest!Prabu wrote:Please ket us not relate protest of ANNA HAZARE, BABA RAMDEV, to this issue. Re: India Nuclear News and Discussion 4 July 2011
I don't know how many have read the national papers which say that a probe is on to unearth the money trail that is supporting the KKM protests, for three months now, impossible with funds from "fishermen",as the organisers have claimed! The reports say that there appears to be a plot to derail KKM and the Russian N-power cooperation with India,to benefit foreign suppliers who are pissed off with the N-liability bill, exactly what we've been saying earlier.
* Now,a strange incident took place last week, that might have a major connection to the KKM protests.A massive-one of the largest ever, consignment of gold biscuits was seized by TN police (more than 20 kg,about 5 crores worth!),from guess where?...... It was smuggled across the Palk Starits from northern Sri Lanka by none other than the son of one Shanmugam (?),who was part of the Rajiv G assassination squad, was arrested by the SIT,then escaped and later on mysteriously committed "suicide" .The allegations about the Eelam/LTTE diaspora also being involved now gets more ominous.Qs are being asked whether the LTTE gold smuggled into TN was to help finance the KKM protests (where was it being hidden in SL,as the SL armed forces are now very much in charge in the north, was it being hidden in any religious centre is the big Q for later use),or to be used to finance the Eelamist proxy politicos in TN or to even finance terror acts within India. As mentioned before,TN has become the frontline for the Eelamist diaspora who are reviving the Eelam movement first intending to capture Tamilnadu politically, which they feel is a far easier task thanks to its amenable and corrupt politicos.
KKM now appears to be the key focus of ceoncerted coordinated sabotage by a variety of anti-national entities, well funded from abroad. One can now understand the AEC/IB assessment that "1000 crores" was being spent to sabotage KKM!

Philip when you write please provide links or evidences otherwise your manipulative writings against Tamils both in Lanka and in Tamil Nadu gets exposed. If you are from Srilanka keep your writings to the information that you have or about those whom you know. Otherwise provide good evidences for your argument if not stop manipulating people like EJs or foreign support when one argument fails you get into another. So seems the desparation that is similar to lankan govt.

L&T executes first US order for nuclear equipment
The spokesperson said the manufacture of the stainless steel canisters involves maintaining stringent tolerance levels.
Transnuclear Inc. USA, an Areva company, has placed five repeat orders for supplying such canisters to leading utilities based in the US and Switzerland, bringing the total ordered to 73.

Kalam plan akin to bribery: Activists
Great now worthies like Seeman who has been accused of Rape by an aspiring actress etc. get to target Kalam.
Now that the activists have raised the question of Nuke plants harming relations with China and Pakistan. Why don't these worthies get China and pakistan to roll back thier Nuke programmes and Nuke plants first and then talk about this.
Or Atleast let them provide funds and guarantee to run 10000MW of power to TN with no cost to the exchequer, they will pay thorugh thier personal funds.
Or all protesters agree never to use power. that way we can use Neyveli Lignite power etc. where it is badly needed for TN industries etc..

Re: India Nuclear News and Discussion 4 July 2011
I am not getting connections between protestors and starting of the Nuclear plant. This plant has been struggling to start its business since long time. There is more in terms of Russians agreeing on the basis of them getting their money soon or technical issues involved in starting this plant. Govt wanted to find a scape goat. I think they should start the business and ignore the protestors. Also State and central govet should get involved in dialogue and improvement of hte local people in some ways which is the most neglected part.

>>I am not getting connections between protestors and starting of the Nuclear plant. This plant has been struggling to start its business since long time. There is more in terms of Russians agreeing on the basis of them getting their money soon or technical issues involved in starting this plant.
This is a slightly disingenuous argument. The issue is about the existence of plant itself, not delays in construction and getting it onstream. The issues with the Russians, if any (I have not been following this too closely) is between GoI and the Russian govt. What do the protests have to do with this?
>>Govt wanted to find a scape goat.
Why? No one was complaining about the delays. The protests are about the existence of the plant itself. So the government was not looking for anything. They basically did not expect the hassle and seem to have been blind-sided by the rather abrupt emergence of a local protest movement on the matter.
