As shared before, ISIS is about to be kicked out of Manbij, the city now is 100% encircled, this is a major loss for ISIS, Manbij is a large city in a key area. The road Manbij-Al Bab is now cut off which means no more retreat. ISIS may try to hold Al Bab but it seem very unlikely to hold much, Al Bab will be mostly likely fought by the SDF or the turkish backed terrorists, a race indeed.

Have not seen any movement from the SAA and allies on eastern Aleppo, most of the prepatory offensive is focused on the north and west of Aleppo, it would be important for Syria to control Dayr Hafir, Jirah airbase and Maskaneh plains.

There is no current report on the amount of ISIS terrorists that retreated from Manbij area and Azaz/Marea front, initial info was that they fled to Al Bab, which is logical, but where would they go from there ?

The concern remains that since the SAA and allies are advancing toward Tabqa/Raqqa, that ISIS desperately needs a new mid-large city to prolong their life for at least 1 more year, and all they will have is Mosul if Al Bab, Manbij, Raqqa, Fallujah, Hawija are liberated from ISIS, this is where Deir ez Zor comes to the picture, this city becomes not only important for ISIS but also vital for its survival, I fear ISIS will move all they currently have and most of the retreating terrorists from northern Aleppo to attack Deir ez Zor in the next days....and to make things worse, a 72 hrs sand/dust storm is about to hit Iraq and Syria and Deir ez Zor is its way, in the past sand storms led ISIS may advances in Syria since it protects them from air attacks, no CAS in sand storms.
For the heroes in Der ez Zor, tough days ahead, maybe this indeed the pinnacle moment of this war with actions all over the map.

Al thawrah next to tabqah, mansourah on the opp shore of raqqa and raqqa itself all form a compact defensible zone with lot of small villages all around. the kurds are unlikely to be moving on raqqa. this could be ISIS last holdout.

Deir azzor leads to Qaim on the border imo and no longer holds value for logistics as haditha, ramadi etc have fallen and fallujah will fall soon. but it could serve as a transit route to tharthar lake area of iraq and then on to the strongholds near mosul...its the vital remaining link to iraq and hence I think you are right - they will attack with great ferocity after gathering more zombies.

SAA has deployed one more major general there a while back to serve as a backup should gen zahreddine fall. god alone knows how they keep fighting but leningrad did hold out successfully for 900 days against the full might of the wehrmacht....when people have no option, every man is a tiger.

russia will need to ship in tons of heavy artillery , shells and operators to clear the way .... legions of tochkas and a few iskanders to make a point will not hurt either.

Among the tactics Russia has deployed, according to ISW, is to launch a series of attacks along a main opposition supply route thoroughfare, Castello Road.
Gen. Vodkov has been reading the advice given by UBCN on BRF.
“It is a strange thing that DoD hall chatter mimics Russian propaganda,” one U.S. official, who supports the intelligence community position, wryly noted to Pentagon claims that the opposition and Nusra are one in the same.

Royal Navy wants their whisky warm but their seawater cold.

Global Warming effects show, big-time
(CNN)Britain's £1bn ($1.4bn) warships are losing power in the Persian Gulf because they cannot cope with the warm waters, MPs have been told. Six Type 45 destroyers have repeatedly experienced power outages because of the temperatures, leaving servicemen in complete darkness.

During the Defence Committee hearing on Tuesday, MPs questioned company executives about the warship failures. "The equipment is having to operate in far more arduous conditions that were initially required," Rolls-Royce director Tomas Leahy said. :((

Managing director of BAE Systems Maritime, John Hudson, supported Leahy's comments, adding: "The operating profile at the time was that there would not be repeated or continuous operations in the Gulf."

mallah farms is due north of the neck of land connecting castello road (a kind of ring road leading to jihadi held areas in the western countryside) to the interior part of aleppo in jihadi hands. so far they are holding firm with the aid of many martydom op VBIEDs.

problem for SAA fighting in built up areas like this, is they neither have the masses of artillery and B52 needed to flatten the place or the huge nos of infantry to swamp the place. anything in between means big casualties and to and fro battles.

On Thursday morning, the Syrian Arab Air Force (SyAAF) annihilated an entire convoy of ISIS vehicles which were suspected of heading towards Tabqa Airbase in western Raqqa to reinforce the frontline there. The Islamic State convoy consisted of 15 motorcycles with 2 fighters on each bike and a further five Toyota cars full of ISIS militants. Effectively, around 50 ISIS fighters were wiped out in a single blow yesterday. The vehicles were first spotted traveling from the Dakwah area in eastern Damascus, but since apprehended by airstrikes near Saknah, an ISIS-held desert town east of Palmyra. Syrian jets operating from Dumayr Airbase were responsible for the succesful aerial operation, according to information obtained by Al-Masdar News

On Thursday, the Islamic State launched another assault on several government-held areas in Syria’s eastern city of Deir Ezzor. According to a military source in the city, ISIS launched attacks towards the Panorama Roundabout and government positions at the Thurdah mountain; these sites are located west of Deir Ezzor city and have been targeted countless times by ISIS in the past weeks. Around midnight, Islamic State fighters attempted to infiltrate SAA positions at Jabal Thurdah under the cover of darkness; however, the ISIS unit was spotted and came under heavy fire, thereby killing 7 ISIS militants and injuring several others before they retreated back. The Panorama Roundabout remains under government control for now; however, the strategic Thurdah mountain is split between ISIS and the SAA at several points. Meanwhile, Russian airstrikes targeted ISIS insurgents at al-Baghiliyah (north of Deir Ezzor) and al-Mariyah (southeast of Deir Ezzor), thereby leading to the death of another 12 ISIS fighters and the destruction of several gun trucks. Finally, the SAA discovered and blew up an Islamic State tunnel connecting the Cinema Fouaa street with the Al-Jabelah neighbourhood. The SAA still controls approximately 45% of Deir Ezzor city, an important government bastion which keeps a great deal of ISIS fighters occupied far from other volatile frontlines.

It seems Hezbollah's decision to leave southern Aleppo had much to do with the fact that they were not going on the offensive there.

We are hoping that the meeting between the Syrian, Russian, and Iranian MoD was successful. Literally, no air presence where Iranians are.

Leith Abou Fadel ‏@leithfadel 9h9 hours ago
Russia prefers to secure Aleppo and Damascus. Attempting to take Idlib would hurt negotiations with the Syrian opposition

Leith Abou Fadel ‏@leithfadel 9h9 hours ago
In many ways, Iran wanted to champion the liberation of Al-Fou'aa and Kafraya, like they did at Zahra'a and Nubl. Russians are more tactical

Leith Abou Fadel ‏@leithfadel 9h9 hours ago
Iran wants to liberate Fou'aa & Kafraya; Russians don't want this offensive right now. Iran is not happy because they mobilized forces there

Leith Abou Fadel ‏@leithfadel 9h9 hours ago
Russians do not provide air cover during the day to the Iranians and Iraqis in southern Aleppo. Supplies are also scarce

Leith Abou Fadel ‏@leithfadel 9h9 hours ago
The problem in southern Aleppo has less to do with fighting capabilities and more to do with an internal conflict between Russia and Iran

^^ the above pales before the task the US has in hand once the SDF kurds gain more land and come up to Al-bab and demand their promised rojava to link into Afrin. and they will want jarablous crossing too, with the sultan shahs famous tomb nearby.

this puts Erdogans nasty little green Azaz pocket in the direct line of advance from both east and west.

maybe the SAA will give them a opening to stir the pot by opening a linkup corridor near Marea and then sit back to watch the furball. this will render irrelevant the azaz "block" in the way. would be the right thing to do imo.

Russia, U.S.-supported troops advance on ISIS ‘capital’ Raqqa

The fight against Islamic State forces in Syria appears to be at a turning point. For the first time since the start of hostilities, two anti-terror coalitions (those led by Russia and those pro-U.S.) have, in effect, joined efforts to liberate Raqqa, the de facto ISIS capital.

The advance on Raqqa is coming from two directions: by pro-U.S. opposition units and by Syrian government troops which, until recently, have not conducted any operations in Raqqa Province.

To storm the ISIS stronghold, they have dispatched their assault units, which are operating with support of Russian air forces. According to Kommersant sources, Russian military advisers are assisting in developing plans for the offensive. The speed with which the offensive will take place will affect the time-frame for completion of the main phase of the anti-terrorist operation in Syria and neighbouring Iraq.

пустым не оставлять!!
Main threats to Russia’s T-90 in Syria
Russian assistance
The offensive that the Syrian army mounted last week on approaches to Raqqa was a watershed. Government troops had not set foot in that province since August 2014, and Raqqa was considered to be the Islamic State’s stronghold.

The only ones who dared to contest the caliphate’s rule over this land were Kurdish detachments and several opposition units which form part of the Syrian Democratic Forces alliance, enjoying U.S. support.

These forces announced in late May that they were starting an offensive against 200,000-strong Raqqa, which had been proclaimed the caliphate’s “capital.” However, that offensive, which came from the north, was not particularly rapid. One of the reasons was the manpower shortage in the united forces of Kurds and the moderate opposition.

The operation recently started by the Syrian army and militia units in Raqqa Province may pose a far bigger threat to ISIS.

According to the Lebanon-based pan-Arab TV channel Al-Mayadeen, Syrian government forces have crossed the border of the province for the first time in two years, and have seized an important transport hub in the village of Zakia. They are mounting an offensive on the city of Tabqa, together with a nearby military airfield and a dam on the Euphrates.

If the government forces manage to capture Tabqa, they will get direct access to Raqqa, which is just 25 miles away. According to Western media reports, the vanguard of the advancing army is made up of elite units known as Desert Falcons. The operation involves armoured vehicles, artillery and aviation.

Neither Damascus nor Moscow nor Washington have officially confirmed that the two anti-terrorist coalitions are coordinating their actions in Raqqa Province. However, military experts commenting on the situation on June 5, and reported by Western and Arab media, consider it to be very likely.

Russian military sources polled by Kommersant say that the Russian air force is rendering serious support to the Syrian government troops on their advance to Raqqa.

пустым не оставлять!!
Russian soldiers in Syria: ‘As efficient as Swiss watches’
According to a Kommersant source, Russian front-line aviation support allowed government troops to advance deep inside the province and gain access to the road leading to Tabqa.

“Targets are chosen on the basis of space reconnaissance and covert intelligence, while the Syrian army’s actions are coordinated with our military advisers,” the source said. “We have established contact with the U.S.-led coalition, but there is no joint operation planning on the cards. We have proposed it, but the U.S. does not want to have full-fledged cooperation with us,” said the source.

Coup de grace
The offensive on ISIS positions around Raqqa will largely determine the future of the fight against Islamist terrorists and the time-frame for completion of the main phase of the anti-terrorist operations both in Syria and neighbouring Iraq.

If – under the onslaught of the united forces of both coalitions – Raqqa falls relatively soon (in the course of several weeks), it will definitely have an effect on operations in Iraq, where government troops are storming Fallujah with U.S. support and are preparing to mount an offensive on another ISIS stronghold, Mosul.

On the Syrian front, Raqqa’s fall could become the coup de grace for ISIS. It is the last large city that the group still holds in Syria.

A military-diplomatic source told Kommersant that increased militant activity “is directly related to the actions of the U.S., which promised to separate the opposition from terrorist groups several months ago but has still not done it.”

The source continued: “We do not intend to wait forever. If our Western partners are unable to keep their promises, we shall be acting independently. And without taking into account the location of the so-called moderate opposition.”

The intelligence community, which backed opposition forces in Aleppo, believes ISIS cannot be defeated as long as Assad is in power. The terror group, they say, thrives in unstable territories. And only local forces—like the ones backed by the CIA—can mitigate that threat.

looks like trilateral meeting (Russia, Iran, Syria) had positive outcome and Russia has been bought to bear the force of it's air power over aleppo and support Iranian ground ops. Previously Russians seemed not too keen on aleppo air support to Iranian ground ops and in many cases CAS was absent during Iranian led offensives in Aleppo.

Ref : Trilateral Meeting
UPDATE

Earlier this week the question was asked: “What did they talk about?”

Meeting with Russian Def. Min. Sergey Shoygu, Iran’s Ali Shamkhani reiterated that the support for Syrian nation and administration is for the cause of stability in the Arab country.
I feel obliged to extend my gratitude for all the support Russian President Vladimir Putin, by his wise policies and gallant measures, has provided so far in Syria, for the cause of all-out fight with terrorism,” said Iran's Secretary of Supreme National Security Council (SNSC), Ali Shamkhani, who acts as the high coordinating official of Iran, Syria, and Russia joint political, military, and security measures.
Secretary of Iran's Supreme National Security Council made the remark in his Thursday meeting with Russian Defense Minister, Sergey Kuzhugetovich Shoygu, who is visiting Tehran to sit the trilateral meeting of defense ministers of Iran, Russia, and Syria.
Shoygu met with Iranian Defense Minister, Brigadier General Hossein Dehghan and his Syrian counterpart, Fahd Jasim al-Furayj, on Thursday.
“The intention of the US and its western allies in Syria is to create a margin of security for the Zionist regime, and benefit from propaganda of war on terror in their internal political fights to win the public opinion in elections,” said Shamkhani, highlighting the complexities of political, security, and military issues in Syrian crisis.
Shamkhani reiterated that nobody except Syrians has the legitimate right to decide the governing regime and the rulers for Syria, after he condemned the verbal and military intervention of some countries [Saudi Arabia, Qatar, the UAE, and Turkey] in the domestic affairs of Syria which entails infringing the legitimate rights of the Syrians.
“The international community should be grateful and supportive of the costly measures of Iran, Russia, and Syria in warring terrorism in the region and should limit and punish those states which are supporting, blatantly and secretly, Takfiri terrorists,” contented the Iranian General underlining that the effective cooperation of the three countries of Iran, Syria, and Russia, has been the main source of destruction for the network of terrorists in the Middle East.

During the meeting, General of the Army Shoygu, voiced his gratitude for the initiative of the Islamic Republic of Iran in forming the trilateral meeting of the defense ministers and called for the international participation in the war on terror.

If so it is the first time this missile has been used in combat theatre.

Rebels and the militants from the terrorist groups "Islamic State" have reported that the Russian military contingent used the newest "Iskander" rocket system. This was reported by military-informant.com.

In the night of June 9th, in the area of the Bab al-Hawa crossing on the Syrian border with Turkey, a powerful explosion took place from a missile attack. The border crossing is 50 km west of Aleppo.

Representatives of the terrorist group ISIS announced that the Russian Hmeymim airbase launched a tactical missile from the "Iskander" system. The modern "Iskander" missile system is actually in service with the Russian military contingent in Syria, arriving at the Hmeymim airbase in March 2016.
