What is going on with GOI's inability to deal with such propaganda and incitement?
GoI is letting every state handle the situation with state police. The IB knows what's going on and in some places like Assam, KA and TN the RAF is supplementing state police. Time has come for the HRD to issue orders to rusticate students damaging public or private property. Identify them through media postings, CCTV, social media, and others.

I wonder how many countless others have got such dual aadhar cards, voter ids and other vital Indian national documents and so very conveniently, one identity is Hindu and the other is muslim.

We not only need a CAA but also an NRC, ASAP.

one doesn't even want to speculate on the original nationality or religion of this man

Man with two Aadhaar cards and two voter IDs found in Odisha's Jajpur

Bitu Biswas, son of Aviram Biswas, has two identities, one as a resident of the Jajpur town and another in West Bengal.

22nd December 2019

JAIPUR: A curious case of a person with two identities has come to fore in Jajpur Road. As per an FIR lodged by the coordinator of Vyasanagar unit of Bajrang Dal Sushil Kumar Mallick with Jajpur Road police, Bitu Biswas, son of Aviram Biswas, has two identities, one as a resident of the town and another in West Bengal.

Bitu has been staying in Jajpur Road and has a travel business. He had married a Hindu woman before Bhadrak Notary Public two years back and brought a motorcycle under the name. On the other hand, he allegedly has Aadhaar and voter id cards in the name of Soleman Shaik, son of Abdul Salam in Murshidabad, West Bengal. He has even brought an SUV under the name in the neighbouring State and is married to a woman from Murshidabad.

“The incident, prima facie, implies that a single person has been impersonating under two different names in two locations,” stated the FIR. The police have registered a case and started investigation into the matter. “We will probe how a man has two different names in two different locations and the intent behind it,” said a senior police officer.

Old (local) ration card, all India benefits. One small step for a citizen, one giant leap for India.

This is not just about ration card but think of the infrastructure that would be needed to back the usage of such "local" identity countrywide! Now where and to what purpose can the same infrastructure be used :) Sometimes big things come in innocuous little packages.

With this how many countrywide network does the central government control that can be leverage to deliver "seamless" service to all Indian no matter where they are from and where they have migrated to?

An Indian MP has taken US Senator Elizabeth Warren to task after she raised concerns about a canceled meeting between New Delhi and a fellow progressive lawmaker, poking fun at her self-declared Native American bona fides.

After Indian Minister of External Affairs Subrahmanyam Jaishankar scrapped a scheduled meeting with US lawmakers – including Pramila Jayapal (D-WA) – during the 2+2 summit in Washington on Friday, Warren fired off a tweet calling “efforts to silence” the congresswoman “deeply troubling.” The tweet prompted a swift mocking response from BJP lawmaker Rajeev Chandrasekhar, arguing that Jayapal is no authority on Kashmir.

“We are sorry you’re troubled. Don't be,” Chandrasekhar said. “We have no objections to Pramila Jayapal mumbling to herself, or even to you, on stuff she knows nothing about.”

It’s just that we don’t want to waste our time listening to her nonsense. Hope you understand being Native [American] Indian and all.

Jaishankar says he called off the meeting due to Jayapal’s “unfair” characterization of the situation in the India-controlled part of Kashmir, which lost its autonomy status in August after New Dehli changed its constitution in a bid to “integrate” the territory. India deployed thousands of troops into the area and clamped down on communications soon after the move, measures which the India-born Jayapal continues to criticize. She is currently sponsoring a resolution in Congress to urge New Delhi to shift its approach in the region.
Officials of the ruling BJP insist the decision was necessary to spur economic growth and cut down on local corruption, but some opposition figures have been vocally opposed to the government’s Kashmir policy.

Sanjay Jha, a national spokestwit for the opposition Congress party, insisted the external affairs minister “embarrassed India” by canceling the meeting, and commended Warren, a 2020 US presidential hopeful, for her response.

India’s Foreign Minister has hugely embarrassed India. What a pathetic response by S.Jayshankar!

Coupta wants Modi/BJP to validate the Muslim veto on its policies. Coupta ji, NRC is a promise on its manifesto to its voters and Modi/BJP are not going to take it off. BJP did not remove Ram mandir all those years when it seemed unattainable.

Modi could of course hold back on NRC announcements for a while to cool tempers down and while public education is done and infra to get NRC is created.

https://twitter.com/ShekharGupta/status ... 6231085057
Shekhar Gupta @ShekharGupta

To calm fears, Modi Govt needs to:

1. Say unequivocally & formally (no ‘sources’) that there’s no NRC plan for anywhere other than Assam

2. Defer CAA implementation till the SC has pronounced on it. Nothing stops it from giving any refugees citizenship in normal course
Coupta is either a gawar or a fraud ... The CAA is NOT about refugees. It is about ILLEGALS ALREADY inside the country who CANNOT be counted as refugees precisely because they are illegals. There is NO path for them other than via CAA or using fraud.

The horror stories of bengali hindus that are coming out from Assam, is precisely what I had pointed out - no way to reduce false negatives and false positives in the same process.

Many people with ear to the ground level were aware of the situation; how actual perpetrators(bangladesi muslims) have escaped and how innocents(mostly bengali hindus, some bengali and assamese muslims who tried to follow the process and refused bribe) are suffering. The NRC process has been precisely what law enforcement is for petty govt officials ; a windfall to shake down the poor and downtrodden and line their own pocket. And it will always be so, expecting anything else in our current digital and legal infrastructure is foolish.

However, people away from the scene, getting their information only from media (msm as well as sm) won't know that; however much they are passionate about the issue. The NRC process, which has a downside can not be compared with Aadhaar or Jan Dhan, even though the scope is equally massive, the other 2 examples simply didn't have any downside and the top level mandate was to bring as many people under it's ambit as quickly as possible. The only comparable process is demonitization where restrictions were placed on people. Now imagine a demonitization doing on for years with downside is not just some rich loosing their black money but a lot many number of poor bonafide citizens without means to fight back being harassed by low level govt functionaries with the threat of tagging them doubtful and making them pay through their noses.

My ardent hope is that he should not end up similar to Buddhadeb Bhattacharya after backtracking on Singur. Voting public respects strength in govt to push through their agenda. I still remember the days of pain when govt official would go on power trip to collect money just because there was a space in the middle name at one place and not the other. Nothing has changed so lot of this NRC and safety all that is a dream. Yeah it should be passed and would be passed but implementations would be disaster.

They should start and go through many ideas like electric FIR fillings, collecting tips from public about illegals and taking actions, etc. before heading with NRC. Many can be rounded up before the actual NRC. I should be able to submit tips against who's employing illegals, be rewarded, and have a genuine govt efforts on pursuing tips unlike many black money tips where they just go into black hole.

Most of the talk is in English. Only a few lines in the beginning & end are in Kannada.

I still think that NRC at this point should be thought several times. Much of the focus should be on fixing the economy. An economy doing good will boost confidence among the populace and increase the support to NaMo automatically.

Btw, there's video floating around on the SM of the empty seats in Modi rally today.

Not sure if that's one off, some trick video or there's genuine popular backlash against BJP where people are no longer interested on NaMo.

The JMM exit poll shows that BJP is going to loose that state despite lot of rally from him.

If this is really the start of a downward trend for BJP, the sole reason for loosing a dharmic govt and squandering years of gain against the BIF force would be NRC. I really really hope it does not come down to that. This is the fear why I kept cautioning that NRC is the gift that will keep on giving; for many generations to come.

Why would NRC be bad for BJP, it is like saying RJB verdict is going to be bad for BJP and it is the start of the downfall. Please do share the video.
In total, this act will not move even 1% of the vote (mind you used the word move) in either direction except for WB and Assam. Assam needs more analysis, but in WB, this is one act that may get BJP elected in assembly.

Varoon, I like Laura Lynch. Superb journalist, of course, from a Canadian/western PoV. I used to live near Seattle, WA area and used to listen to her show often. (And of course whenever I come to Canada on business, I tune into CBC radio while driving). Among all US/Canadian journalists, she would rank very high on my list. Always well prepared, and neither far left nor far right.

Anyway, coming to the interview, that that slimy Paki in Indian mufti Arifa whatever speaks so eloquently about rejecting 2-nation theory. We must preserve her sophistry. Because next time, when Kashmir flares up again and stone pelting and 'azadi' demanding KMs riot, one must ask her whether their (KMs) demands are justified because after all, she rejected 2-nation theory.

It just frustrates me no end, that one cannot ever find one nationalist on US/Canada media who can eloquently and clearly articulate India's PoV. The terror we have faced from Pak. Its always these priks: ADhothi, Rana Ayyub, likes Arifa whatever, Pankaj Misra. Very similar to Russian media or Chinese media asking some far left nut from US like Louis Farakhan or Noam Chmosky to talk to about US policy.

He did not back-track. He just clarified that even discussion has not begun. The rollout will happen in time. Amit Shah just stated that NRC will be rolled out by 2024 and that is 4 years still.

When Land reform was rolled back or Modi has to change track on 3 SC issues, he did so because it directly impacted his voter base or at least the catchment. With NRC there is no risk.

At the max, the concession that can be granted will be to enroll EVERYONE in by end of 2023 and issues "provisional" NRC identify immediately for everyone except the most blatant case. Start verification and weeding after GE 2024. Many ways to skin the cat.
