Congress candidates list for 2012 UP elections

Union law minister Salman Khurshid’s wife Louise, PCC chief Rita Bahuguna Joshi and CLP leader Pramod Tiwari are among the 73 names in the first list of Congress candidates for next year’s Uttar Pradesh Assembly elections, due by May 2012. Congress MP Sanjay Singh’s wife Amita and another MP Praveen Singh Aron’s journalist wife Supriya will contest from Amethi and Bareilly Cantt respectively. The list was finalised by the Congress central election committee last Tuesday, at a meeting attended by Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, AICC general secretaries Rahul Gandhi and Digvijay Singh, the PCC chief and the CLP leader. This is the first time the party has announced its candidates for any state election so early.

Manipur has been facing a severe shortage of all commodities, including petrol and diesel, after two separate blockades were enforced along Manipur’s three supply lines by the Sadar Hills District Demand Committee and United Naga Council.

While one has been demanding that the Sadar Hills subdivision in Senapati be upgraded to a district, the Nagas living in the hill districts are against the move.
Another success story of the Congress. Read the story to puke on the chamcha journalism by telegraph.

Yup, why do these worthies call themselves as 'Tamil"s a better discription for them would be "velacaran Aadumai". I am talking here of only a select group of "Rationalists".

Blockade broken in Manipur
The Sadar Hills District Demand Committee (SHDDC) has been imposing economic blockades on NH-39 (Imphal-Dimapur) and NH-53 since August 1 seeking conversion of the Kuki-dominated Sadar Hills into a full-fledged district by carving out three sub-divisions of Senapati. On the other hand, the United Naga Council (UNC) has come down heavily on the state government's alleged attempt to bifurcate the Naga-dominated areas to create a new district and also called "total bandh" on all national highways passing through areas inhabited by the Nagas since August 21.

Over 400 trucks carrying essential commodities from Assam reached the Manipur capital along National Highway 53 ( Imphal-Silchar Road) accompanied with heavy security escorts on Saturday afternoon, much to the relief for the people of blockade-hit state. Besides petroleum products, the state is facing acute shortage of food items and household materials owing to the blockade by Kukis and the counter-blockade by Nagas.

Aditya, the DMK would do anything to hurt the Hindus. This is especially so with Karunanidhi. The agenda of the Left parties had always been to destroy the majority religion in any country where they set their foot upon. That way, they will eliminate one powerful source of a united opposition.

TN govt wants PM to intervene in GST Bill
http://www.business-standard.com/india/ ... ll/446785/

I think the question of 'State Autonomy' should be discussed at wider level. Autonomy does not depend a complete segregation of states rather an autonomy for each state to compete in terms of getting invesstment and invest in growth orietented projects and implementation of central govt projects together. At present the growing states are punished for their growth in various ways. Central government is trying to block some investments and growth oriented projects In some states - because they are already recognised as grown or not congress government or many industries are already there. It is right time there is some autonomous power for the states towards growth as some other states are not in the mood of growing and so on.

her government decided to convert the Rs 1,200 crore new assembly-cum-secretariat complex into a multi-super-speciality hospital and a new medical college, overturning DMK chief Karunanidhi's pet project.
Not a bad idea at all. The govts generally do a quality job when they build such important projects.

JJ can fund a new secretariat, which can be converted into another hospital by next govt. That way Chennapattanam can get a new multi-super hospital every 5 years.

Better than Rs 1/kg program.

P.S: I am not sarcastic.

Arunachal Pradesh has highest growth rate
The data provided by the Central Statistics Office shows that the front-runner among high-growth states in 2009-10 was, hold your breath, Arunachal Pradesh, whose GDP grew by a mind-blowing 22.43%. Eat your heart out, mainstream India, the north-eastern star is rising, despite decades of neglect.

There’s more to the story. In second place was another surprise—Mizoram, with a growth rate of 13.95%. Goa came third in 2009-10, growing its GDP by 13.03%. That’s not all. It now turns out that Bihar was not really the fastest growing state in 2008-09—that honour goes to Mizoram, with a growth rate of 13.91%, while Bihar came second. Andaman and Nicobar Islands, growing by 11.17%, came third.

An inquiry conducted by the BBMP based on the complaints by local residents, MLA and corporators, reveals that the MoU, which BMRCL and Mantri Developers subsidiary Hamara Shelters have entered into, is illegal. The report has also recommended cancellation of building plan, stopping the work with immediate effect and initiating a criminal action against the builder and officers of NTC.

The inquiry report, which former mayor P R Ramesh extracted under RTI, strongly recommends cancellation of Khatha given to BMRCL for an area of some odd-20,400 sq. mtrs on June 15, 2010. It charges NTC of selling the land to Hamara Shelters, without having a title to the property.

The agreement

The BMRCL has entered into an agreement with the Mantri Group for 99 years on a Build-Operate-Transfer (BOT) basis. Under the MoU, the builder will part with his 5.04 acres of the 18 acres and 27 guntas of land behind Mantri Mall to the BMRCL for the construction of building. It would construct the Metro station and hand it over to Namma Metro only after 99 years.

The inquiry report says that the 5 acres and four guntas of land on which Swastik Metro Rail Station is coming up on belongs to Hamara Shelters, a subsidiary of Mantri Developers. The reality, however, is that at least two acres of land out of 5.04 acres belong to the Indian Railways, Bruhat Bangalore Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) and the state government.

The report further goes into the details of the claims over a land of 18.27 acres in possession of Hamara Shelters, of which the BMRCL wants five acres and four guntas to construct Swastik Station behind Mantri Mall. The inquiry shows that out of 18.27 acres of land, Mantri Developers possess only 9 acres and 23 guntas of land. It says there was a road spread in two acres and 31 guntas in the village map as well as the revenue survey map, which has to be deducted.

The claimed land also includes an acre and 27 guntas of land in Hanumanthapura village and Ketumaranahalli, which belongs to the Railways. Further, 35 guntas of land in Hanumanthapura (Sy No. 3593/1) is actually part of Jakkaraya Lake.

There is another 32 guntas of government land in the south and west. Of the remaining 14 acres and 21 guntas of land, ownership on four acres and 38 guntas land has not been given. This way the developer actually possesses nine acres and 23 guntas.

The report says that out of the claimed 18 acres and 27.5 guntas of land, the builder has got Khatha on 17 acres and 23 guntas. “Going by the survey department report, Khatha given for four acres and 38 Guntas of land should be cancelled,” the report said.

The BBMP report recommends stern action against its revenue officers in Gandhinagar sub-division for preparing a forged khatha document for Mantri Developers. The officers nailed in the report are assistant revenue officer Lakshmamma, Chikkanna, revenue officer Muniappa and Manjunath, deputy commissioner Lingaraju and revenue inspector B N Dayanand.

The report also says that the three acres land that Hamara Shelters gave to the Palike for a road in return for TDR does not belong to the builder.

When contacted, N Sivasailam, Managing Director, BMRCL said: “We received a notice from the BBMP Joint Commissioner only on 29 (August 29), which I haven’t gone through. We were asked to submit our replies by September 2, but as the Joint Commissioner was not available in the office, we could not submit it today (Sept. 2). We will submit it tomorrow (Sept 3). Our legal department is dealing with it. ”

Suvendu Biswas, the PRO of the Railways said: “We have leased a portion of land directly to the BMRCL, but we have not given any part of land to any individual to sell it.”

Former mayor P R Ramesh was critical. “I strongly feel that the BMRCL did not seek any legal opinion before hastily entering into an agreement with Hamara Shelters, a subsidiary of Mantri Developers.”

The Palace of Wazir Zorawar Singh complemented the chain of forts including Bhimgarh, Batalgala and Dhiangarh Salal. According to the historians the building was a manorial house named Vijaygarh from which the village has got its present name of Vijaypur. There is also a Samadhi of Rani of Wazir Zorawar Singh who according to local folklore performed Sati on hearing the death of the Wazir during his military expedition to Tibet. The building which is in ruins was decorated with murals and floral decorations which were thought to be influenced by the distinct Pahari School of painting which flourished in this region at that time. The wall of the first floor were adorned with frescos depicting scenes from Ramayana, Krishan Lila and Hindu mythology.

The present occupants of the historical building are the descendents of the Wazir who are living a precarious life. They have neither funds nor the capacity to protect and preserve the building. The Department of Archives, Tourism and Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Shrine Board have undertaken the preservation of the Bhimgarh Fort at Reasi and the Palace of Wazir Zorawar Singh needs to be brought under the caring guardianship of these departments. The Indian Army for whom the General has been a Military Icon can also come forward to preserve the legacy of this military genius. General Zorawar Singh's contributions to the political, administrative and geographical unity have been honoured in Jammu by installing his statue and christening the state of art auditorium of Jammu University as General Zorawar Singh Auditorium. The Deptt. Of Posts has also come out with the stamp in 2000 to honour and commemorate the bravery of the General Zorawar Singh. It is hoped that the same zeal and dynamism is shown in preservation of the Palace and its legacy for future generations of the state.

Brutal Murders by INC are never subject to National Debates.

Anantapur: Three TDP workers hacked to death
Factional violence in the backward and drought-prone Rayalaseema region has claimed over 500 lives during the last 15 years. These factions, supported either by Congress or by TDP, fight for domination in villages.
Famous amoung them was YSR father, the Congress MLA who bombed 26 people to death in Hyderabad [off course he was not a terrorist] and killed in Jubilee hills this year.

Sachar committee report & Gujarat
We have often heard the Prime Minister addressing us from the ramparts of Red Fort on August 15 as Hindus, Muslims, Christians, Sikhs and so on. I wonder why he cannot address us simply as ‘my dear countrymen’, rather than breaking us up like this? Isn’t this important to maintain the unity of our nation!

Secularism is a term interpreted in many different ways by different people. For me, it has always been something very simple - putting India First – designing policy, making decisions and taking actions in the best interests of the nation. When we look after India’s interests, the interests of every Indian are automatically cared for.

Presentation on Sachar Committee Report

Here are some revealing statistics from the Sachar report:

Education

Muslims in Gujarat have a literacy rate of 73.5 %, compared to the national average of 59.1%

 (Source: Sachar Committee Report)

The literacy rate of Muslims in Gujarat is 73.5% which is 5 points higher than that of the Hindus which is at 68.3%.
Rural Muslim women’s literacy is 57 % compared to national average of 43 %
Urban Muslim women average literacy rate is 5 points higher than national average
Muslim education attainment is 74.9 % in primary stage compared to national average of 60.9 %

Amongst those who completed their secondary education, Gujarat is at 45.3% ahead of national average of 40.5 %
Amongst those who passed higher secondary level, Gujarat with 26.1 % is ahead of national average of 23.9 %

(Source: Sachar Committee Report)

In the average years of secondary schooling between ages of 7-16, Gujarat once again is ahead with 4.29 % of national average 3.26 %
In villages with over 2000 Muslim population access to education is 100 per cent with national average at 98.7 %
In  the population range of 1000 to 2000, 99.9 % villages have education facilities as against national average of 95.4 %
As for the villages which have a population of less than a 1000, 98.6 % of the villages have education facility as against national average of 80.4 %

Healthcare

In villages where Muslim population is more than 2000, healthcare is accessible to 89.9 % of the villages of Gujarat against national average of 70.7 %
66.67 % of villages have medical facilities against national average of 43.5 % in 1000-2000 population range
53 % of the villages have medical facilities against national average of 20.2 % in areas with less than 1000 Muslim population

Per month per capita income for rural Muslims:

It stands at Rs 668 while that of Hindus is Rs 644. This is much higher than that of Andhra Pradesh (Rs 610); West Bengal (Rs 501); UP (Rs 509); Karnataka (Rs 532); MP (Rs 475)
Similarly urban areas too have shown higher income than the national average

Employment of Muslims in critical departments of the government such as Home Department, State Transport Department, and public sectors is very high.  The percentage of Muslims occupying higher posts is also far greater in Gujarat compared to other States. I will give only one comparison. Of the 25.2 per cent Muslim population of West Bengal, only 2.1% have benefited from government jobs. Gujarat with only 9.1% Muslim population, 5.4% have government jobs.

Real development should not make anyone dependent on the government. Our policy for sustainable growth of any community should be to make them self-reliant. Our collective efforts should be towards inclusive growth to empower the communities. Let us therefore work for the growth of every Indian to make growth inclusive in the real sense of the term.

SAD wins the SGPC elections

SAD-Sant Samaj combine sweeps SGPC elections
Bags 157 out of 170 seats; turnout 62%
Polling by and large peaceful
Naveen S Garewal/TNS

Chandigarh, September 18
The Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD)-Sant Samaj alliance swept the Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandak Committee (SGPC) elections held today. The alliance won 157 out of 170 seats spread across Punjab, Haryana, Himachal Pradesh and Chandigarh.

The alliance lost 10 seats in Punjab and three (out of 11) in Haryana. It won both seats in Himachal Pradesh and Chandigarh. In the last General House, SAD had won 140 seats, while 30 were bagged by others.

Though, the names of the winners will be notified on September 22, the counting was done soon after the polling ended and results declared thereafter.

Punjab witnessed 62.74 per cent polling. The highest voter turnout was recorded in Nawanshahr (73 per cent) and the lowest in Amritsar (51 per cent).

The combine lost Sirsa, Ambala and Ambala SC seats in Haryana. In Punjab, it lost Joga, Garshankar, Hargobindpur, Phillaur, Dhuri, Dhuri SC, Mohali, Baba Bakala, Jandiala and Dharamkot seats. The smallest margin of votes was seen in Dharamkot (Moga) where a rebel candidate Sukhjit Singh Kaka was declared winner by a margin of only 73 votes.

Barring an incident of firing in Kurianwala village of Gidderbaha and some skirmishes across Punjab, including Buttarshri (Muktsar), the poll was by and large peaceful, notwithstanding some allegation of intimidation by non-alliance candidates.

Though, all 28 polling stations in Chandigarh were classified as sensitive, there was no report of any untoward incident from Chandigarh, Haryana or Himachal Pradesh.

Surprisingly, the alliance won some of the heavily contested constituencies, leaving nothing to the share of the main opposition - the Panthic Morcha and the Shiromani Akali Dal (Amritsar), led by Simranjit Singh Mann, who incidentally himself lost the poll from Bassi Pathana. His son Eman Singh mann also lost from Bhagsar (Patiala).

Mann’s party won the Joga seat in Mansa district by defeating the SAD candidate. Phillaur also saw a close finish with the SAD nominee losing to the Panthic Morcha by a margin of 213 votes.

There are reports from Badal village that certain non-Keshdharis caste votes in the poll. All candidates in the poll had to give an undertaking that they were Keshdhari and did not shear any body hair.

A PPP worker was critically injured in a firing incident at Kurianwala in Gidderbaha. He was reportedly protesting against alleged booth capturing. He was taken to a hospital where his condition was stated to be critical.

poll report

The Winners

* SGPC president Avtar Singh Makkar

* Agriculture Minister Sucha Singh Langah
* Chandigarh ex-Mayor Harjinder Kaur

The Losers

Hitachi To Turn Indian Electrical Machinery Maker Into Unit
TOKYO (Nikkei)--Hitachi Ltd. (6501) said Friday that it will bring a major Indian electrical machinery manufacturer on board as a subsidiary in October, investing several billion yen to acquire at least a 60% stake.

Hi-Rel Electronics Pvt. will be renamed Hitachi Hi-Rel Power Electronics Pvt. after the acquisition.

The firm will build a plant in an industrial park in the state of Gujarat, with plans to make industrial high-voltage inverter drive systems by the end of next year. The full scope of investment and production has yet to be finalized.

Hitachi aims to make the most of Hi-Rel's production capacity and sales channel to tap India's growing demand for industrial inverters and other power equipment. Sales at Hi-Rel are projected to reach 8 billion rupees, or roughly 14 billion yen, in the year through March 2016.

Dashing hopes
Mamata Bannerjee is passing up a historic opportunity to do great and good things in Bengal, writes Diptendra Raychaudhuri.

Calcutta, 7 October 2011: Several years ago at a Trinamool Congress meeting, the late Dr Ranjit Panja, a famous city dermatologist, told his leader, Mamata Bannerjee, that he was unwell and would leave early.

Quickly, Mamata extracted a tablet from her bag and the dazed doctor consumed it. Joking about the incident, Dr Panja said he would have been out of the party if he had refused the pill.

No party leader can oppose Mamata. On the other hand, she is celebrated as a great painter, poet -- and perhaps even a remarkable physician.

Such hankering for intellectual recognition is a middle-class Bengali burden and even the former Marxist chief minister, Buddhadeb Bhattacharya, was not immune to it.

Mamata is well-meaning and cares for the poor. But she is without vision, crassly populist, and overburdens the Centre with her grandiose plans for the state even while fighting it.

Development & money

For example, the new government's vote on account pegs the budget at Rs 87,646 crores without divulging revenue sources. When finance secretary C.M.Bachhawat subsequently was asked to make project allocations, he refused, provoking Mamata to call him "physically unfit".

A later finance bill seems even more daring. It has increased funds for "development" by 183.30 percent, school education by 104.97 percent, transport by 238.10 percent, and so on.

During the last days of the Left Front government, 93 percent of the state's expenditure went to pay salaries and pensions and interest payments for loans. The new finance minister, Amit Mitra, has incredibly vowed to limit this to 74 percent.

Mitra has also impossibly promised to raise state revenues by 31.39 percent from Rs 21,300 crores to 27,690 crores. Further agricultural growth cannot happen without corporatization for which there is no political will. And tertiary sector growth without industrialization is a pipedream as well.

Mitra aims at 14 percent growth rate and his note to the assembly claims revenue earnings will rise by over 30 percent. But the decade growth rate of Bengal's NSDP (net state domestic product) was 6.61 percent down from 6.75 ten years earlier.

Teesta treaty

Next take the Teesta treaty. Mamata Bannerjee said no to an agreement with Bangladesh because 48 percent water release in the dry season would bring drought to many Bengal districts.

Union government officials claim the whole water was never to be released from the Indian barrage. Many streams, they insist, join Teesta after the Indian barrage and before reaching Bangladesh.

The CM's decision has earned accolades in Bengal. But a $1.3 billion World Bank loan to augment water storage capacity in the Teesta basin stands deferred without an Indo-Bangla agreement.

Where 922,000 hectares could be irrigated, it will now stagnate at 58,000. A chance for North Bengal districts to have more water during the dry season stands busted.

An international agreement would have prised open Bangladeshi transit points benefiting commercial activities in Nepal, Bhutan, eastern India, Bangladesh itself and Myanmar. It would have halved trade distances between Calcutta and the North East or Myanmar and boosted economic activities in Bengal. No more

Tackling Naxalism

Similarly, the chief minister is unreal about tackling Naxalism in Jangalmahal. Planned investments of Rs 500,000 crores, if and when they happen, and if they succeed (all very iffy), won't push the Naxalites out.

Naxalites won't leave without a fight and so long they have peoples' support. People are alienated, among other things, by police atrocities in Lalgarh following the bomb attack on the previous chief minister's convoy, for which alone Mamata has not established an inquiry committee.

Lack of judgment

What stands out about Mamata's rule is a singular lack of judgment. Governments have to slog to succeed. In its hurry to industrialize, the Left forcibly evicted farmers and was doomed.

Mamata has gone the other extreme by turning back on industrialization and demeaning the Tatas scaring potential investors. And Mamata Bannerjee is too dependent on Central support for her own good.

Diptendra Raychaudhuri is a senior news TV journalist.
So whats the counter to this guy's comments? Is WB doomed under small minded leaders or will they pull of the miracle? Also how can they expect Rs. 500,000 crore investment in one state? Wont that make every citizen quite well off on govt money?

Incidentally, I had my second case of religious discrimination in India recently, where a job offer was withdrawn to me for supporting Narendra Modi on facebook.

The first case was in BLR in Reuters.

Muslim protesters, carrying tube lights and iron rods, clashed with police in Udaipur Rajasthan after an abusive graphic image of the Islamic holy place Ka'aba was posted on Facebook by an account user based in Rajasthan.
Despite Section-144, which prohibits any gathering, mass protest or demonstration in public places, being imposed in Udaipur, a large number of people from the Muslim community gathered outside the Hathipol Police Station today morning demanding the immediate release of Farukh Hussain secretary of Anjuman Committee, Udaipur. Farukh Hussain was arrested last night (21 November), for his alleged involvement in encouraging riots, He was later released on bail today. Seeing him coming out of the police lock-up, the supporters welcomed him with joy and chanting slogans, even after the Police’s continuous appeal to calm down. Eventually the crowd turned violent and attacked the police.

His arrest gave a new unwanted direction to the whole ‘Facebook’ post mass protest which started 2 days back when an abusive anti-Islamic picture was posted on the social networking site.
