Part 1.
Built on analyses & explanation by BrassTacks, now the doctrine of 5thGenWar is officially being taught in the army and shown in the media.. ( So, this die -hard Paki is claiming credit for the Bajwa Doctrine !)
Pak army prepares for new form of urban wars but cannot do anything where role of Govt is involved in economic terrorism/Media war
aid Hamid
‏Verified account @ZaidZamanHamid

Part 2;
By the very nature of this kind of warfare, Pak army CANNOT fight it alone without the help of a solid govt & a united population.
Army can fight on the streets which in itself is chaotic & bloody but what would army do about Ishaq Dar/NS/Achakzai & Geo types of Media??

Sir Jahil is "all in favour" of imposing Martial Law and doing away with this "farce Paki democracy"

Pak army & ISI Cannot fight this war...under present set of law/Constitution/strategy..
Enemy does not follow any law...it is destroying our economy through Govt itself...our own media & liberals are destroying us from within...
What will our nukes or Tanks or F-16s do here then?

PTV terminates anchor Sana Ejaz ‘on association with PTM’
Daily Times
May 10, 2018
Pakistan Television (PTV) on Wednesday arbitrarily terminated the contract of an anchor, Sana Ejaz, who has lately been active with the ongoing Pashtoon Tahaffuz Movement (PTM) that seeks an end to enforced disappearances among other issues faced by wartorn Pashtun communities of tribal regions.“The Pakistan Television network has removed me from my work and the only reason is that I’m an active member of the Pashtoon Tahaffuz movement (PTM), I enquire about the reason but they told that the order came from the upper level [sic].” What you do in your "private time " (- and that includes your bedroom as well ! ) becomes the "business of the state now !
Talking to Daily Times, Ejaz said she was informed by the management that due to a change in the timings of a programme she was hosting, her services were no longer needed. However, she said, when she met the manager of the specific programme later in the day, she was told that there were ‘orders from the above’ to not let her work at the channel. So, if Ganja is to be believed , there are "alien forces" at work here
“I have been punished for my activism. I have been working for the rights of the marginalised since eight years now. No one could stop me in the past, and nothing will prevent me from pursuing just causes in future,” she said, adding that she would consider a legal course of action after consulting her friends and family. Unless she has "powerful Establishment supporters " , who can "plead" her case discretely ( aka sifarish ) pursuing legal course is a lost cause IMO !
Ejaz has worked at the Peshawar stationher looks are Pashtun from the Pic ! of the national TV channel for two years.
Several phone calls were made to the federal minister for information and broadcasting, Marrium Aurangzeb, but there was no response. Meanwhile, as Ejaz tweet went viral on social media, many prominent users lashed out at the government.
Awami National Party central leader Bushra Gohar said, “How can PTV remove a staff member without due process and it’s the violation of the employs rights and the dismissal should be challenged in the court.”
Nobel Prize winner Malala Yousafzai’s father Ziaudin Yousafzai also criticised the decision and termed it shameful.
Fellow Pashtuns to the rescue  She might be reinstated if "some loud noises" are made and if she promises to "behave" in the future ( get out of the PTM !!!)

AND HERE IS ADDITIONAL "PROOF" OF SANA EJAZ'S "UNPATRIOTIC" BEHAVIOUR

Forgetting the most influential non-political Indian on his 100th birthday Source :
SIFY By : Satyen K Bordoloi Last Updated: Thu, May 10, 2018 10:16 hrs
"A couple of weeks after 25 March 1971 when the Pakistani army began their genocide of Bengalis in East Pakistan, the influx of refugees into India put Prime Minister Indira Gandhi in a perilous position. A poor country, we struggled to feed our own people, how could we feed the lakhs - soon to cross over a million - refugees pouring in? Besides it was clear now that a belligerent Pakistan under Yahaya Khan could be made to listen to only one argument – war. But the Army chief put his foot down. He couldn’t guarantee a win if they went to war immediately. He needed months to prepare. This was a unique conundrum because retaliation was needed immediately. The fear was that acting too late would wipe out the entire Bengali - Muslim and Hindu - population. No one seemed to have a solution. No one except one man. The man, Rameshwar Nath Kao, was the head of the newly formed Research and Analysis Wing, carved out from a begrudging Intelligence Bureau (they even refused to part with due furniture) – on the lines of CIA of the USA. Barely two and a half years old, no one took the agency seriously and its reports were routinely ignored by Indian bureaucrats.
.....
May 10, 2018, is Rameshwar Nath Kao’s 100th birth anniversary. And in what seems to be a coup orchestrated by Kao from beyond his grave, there perhaps isn’t a single function to commemorate this. A grateful nation should have launched into homage, critics lambasting him for his share of failures. Instead, what we have is a cacophony of silence. On the 100th birthday of India’s most influential non-politician post-independence, we remember by forgetting him.
.....
There is, however, one consolation that we can take on behalf of R N Kao – that even as his friends forget him, those who shouldn’t – his and India’s enemies – continue to shudder at the memory of his exploits."

Child Brides Of Pakistan , " Fattened " To Look Older For Marriage Purposes

Dangerous drugs to child brides to make them look older
Saana Ejaz
May 3, 2018
Peshawar: Child brides will no longer be under the radar of the law, as these children would look mature after taking medicinal drugs for weight gain.
Child marriages are a common but illegal practice across Pakistan where families marry their children in their early teens, and sometimes even earlier. PBUH set up a precedent . There is a Hadith on this subject . So no "secular laws" have no weight in this matter .
The tribal regions of Pakistan have a large number of cases that have yet to garner media and government attention. These child marriages are deemed as the norm every time someone marries his/her children according to their religious and cultural ways. Cultural and religious beliefs take a long long time to change . Specially in the conservative culture of Pakiland !
In the valley of Peshawar’s Yakatoot area, Sehrish (not real name) was fourteen years old when her parents decided to make her tie the knot with her life partner who was 33 at the time. “I didn’t know what was happening with me, all I had heard from fellow school girls was that marriage is a necessary part of a girl’s life”, says Sehrish, while smiling over her past as a school going child suddenly plunged into the daunting reality of being a bride. “I used to take a syrup and IV drips that changed my thin frame into that of an older, heavier girl in a matter of months.” For every such "exposed" case, there are probably thousands which escape attention !
Most of the girls from the locality get married during their late formative years, oblivious of their basic rights of education and the harmful effects of being a child bride. Such "arrangements" are made by the parents and the boy/man or the young bride have no say in this matter
Sehrish’s mother is of the view that her daughter was too weak and these medicines were never meant to change ‘Sehrish’ in order to make her look like an adult girl ready for marriage. “Many of the families use such medicines with the prescription of local doctors”, she told Truth Tracker. She may or may not be aware of the danger of these kind of drugs - depends on her educational level etc etc
Upon being questioned, Sehrish’s mother said that a private medical store where the staff do not have a license or a degree in medicine call themselves ‘doctors’ and continue to practice in the village. These phony doctors are common all across the suburbs of Peshawar. And then there is the additional taboo - in the conservative culture - of the doctor not being able to examine a female patient unless a male or female relative is present in the room !
Most child marriages cases are swept under the rug by the families themselves, although they are involved in this to avoid intervention from the government, Saba Ismail, co-founder ‘AWARE Girls’ expresses her concerns regarding child marriages in the country. “It is a mindset in Pakistan, as these girls are conditioned into thinking that they do not belong to their families, or in their homes since childhood because they’re going to be married off.”
Health experts and doctors consider the unnecessary intake of medicines for weight gain dangerous and unethical when prescribed by common people in medical stores or by medical technicians.
According to Dr Saud, Medical Officer at Khyber Teaching Hospital, Peshawar, people take multivitamins like Fefolvite, and syrups like Trimetabol which help in digestion to get the required bulk, coupling them with power injections in ringer lactate solution. Apart from all that, steroids like “dectadrone” injections, which professional doctors would never allow, since these medicines and steroids can make a person look older than they are, while having numerous side effects. Saud said it is dangerous because it abuses the natural growth hormone, and it causes the body or face to swell up but halts bone growth in children.
“After the 18th Amendment, provinces were given the legislative power on different subjects including the child marriages law, but Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government has yet to pass the 2014 proposed draft of law on child marriages,” explained Zahoor Rehman, a lawyer from Peshawar.
While Truth Tracker tried to reach Khyber Pakhtunkhwa law officials via phone, it failed to get a response despite repeated attempts.
KP province is presently ruled by Oxford "educated" Imran Khan's PTI party , so there should be "no problem" at stopping this illegal and dangerous practice of child marriages
Although Sehrish is currently happy with her life partner, she still has regrets about missing years of schooling, years of childhood play, and the chance to be a mature, sensible bride. “What can one say when your family and parents decide your fate, we can only follow their instructions as we are required to respect our elders,” says Sehrish.

Pakistan (onlee) Ranks Twelfth In "Begging" According To OECD :D

Pakistan 12th largest beneficiary of international charities worldwide, discloses OECD
The Express Tribune
April 10, 2018
KARACHI: Pakistan is the 12th largest recipient of philanthropic giving in the world, accounting for USD 267 million of the USD 42 billion that private foundations contributed in charity all over the globe between 2013-2015, a recently released report by the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development has revealed. So, Pakiland is the recipient of 20% of the charitable funds .$ 267 Million more to spend on defense - another way of looking at it
The Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, owned by Microsoft founder Bill Gates and his wife Melinda Gates, is the biggest philanthropic donor to the nation. The BMFG contributes more than three-quarters of all the private humanitarian aid flowing into Pakistan from abroad. Suspect that Bill and Melinda are "fans" of the = = club !
Interestingly, BMFG also donates more money to charity in Pakistan than the combined official development assistance to the South Asian nation by developed countries all over the world. Bill wants Paki I.T. ( not international terrorism !) talent for Microsoft , so this is one way of attracting the best and brightest of Pakiland . And the "shameless" Paki Govt has "no objection" in accepting his largesse
Three-quarters of all private aid to developing nations is courtesy of foundations workings in the United States, the OECD report has stated. US-based charities gave USD 17.6 billion out of a global total of USD 24 billion to those in need during 2013-2015, owing largely to generous donations by the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation. Shameless Pakis once again . Biting the hand ( US) that feeds their poor Abduls !
India is identified as the largest beneficiary of both private charitable donations and official development assistance by the OECD. It received almost USD 1.6 billion of aid during 2013-2015, which is 7 per cent of the total aid distributed by private foundations worldwide. Pakistan beats India hands down .! 20% for Pakiland, onlee 7 % for India

Bad News For PIA Customers - Once Again

PIA asks passengers to report five hours before flight from new Islamabad airport
The Express Tribune
Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) made a special announcement on Thursday and asked passengers to report to Islamabad International Airport (IIA) five hours before their international flight departure.
The announcement by the national carrier stated that the announcement was being made in light of “the traffic congestion due to strict security checks”, further stating their topmost priority was their customers’ convenience. RAA or CIA agents trying to "escape" , hence enhanced strict check is implemented
However, people on Twitter are definitely not happy with the announcement, leading to a myriad of sarcastic comments and funny retorts aimed at the national carrier. PIA has developed a "thick skin" in this matter
. Some wondered if even five hours was enough..

Best comment IMO
brar Hussain @Ibrarabbasi

Why PIA is not arranging hotel stay at Airports to call passengers 24 hours earlier for proper security check? :rotfl:

Transgender activists, allies rejoice as historic 'bill of rights' gets parliament's nod
The Express Tribune

Image

Despite always being 'progressive', Pakistan's legislation has never been fully enforced to protect the rights of transgender persons. PHOTO COURTESY: AURAT FOUNDATION

Above "aurats" appear pretty aggressive in the pic :D

-Victory celebration by the Hijras of Pakiland ( AKA Transgenders !) IMO, is a bit premature. The Bill has not cleared the Paki Senate yet !. Elections are around the corner. The Bill might die down on its own

-Secondly "regime change" following the election is inevitable . Taliban Khan ( AKA Imran Khan ) according to Paki Media is the front runner in the race . Awaam is expecting quite a lot from this "empty vessel" . He has promised to "overturn" all Anti- Islamic Legislation enacted by the Ganja Party. This Bill just might become a casualty . For this reason, celebration party ( as in the above pic !) is premature

PS: What is the "male momeen" doing in the pic . Hope he does not get "picked up" by the cops for sexual harassment in this day and age of "female empowerment" and the "Me Too Movement "

Assault On The Echendee Of "Altaf Bhai"

Altaf Hussain loses legal case to Geo in UK
LONDON: Britain’s television media regulator Ofcom turned down a legal complaint made by the Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) founder Altaf Hussain of unjust and unfair treatment with reference to a show ‘Jirga with Saleem Safi’ aired in April 2017 in the United Kingdom on Geo News. A well known apologist for the Deep State !
During the show, it was alleged by a guest that Altaf Hussain was an “asset” of the British Government. Mr Hussain objected to the comment and took his case through his lawyer to the media regulator demanding action against Geo News in UK’s territory. I fully agree with the "guest" . Altaf is a bargaining chip , kept by the Brits to keep the Pakis in line . They can turn him in to the Pakis - inspite of his Prized H.M.'s Passport - in the future, if he becomes too much of a nuisance for them. And If the Price Is Right.
Ofcom’s considered that, given the context of the programme, the comments relating to Mr Hussain being an “asset of Britain” would not have materially or adversely altered viewers’ perceptions of him in a way that was unfair. Except for his Mojahir brothers' Altaf is widely viewed as a " gadhar" ( traitor ) and an agent of India in his native Pakistan !
In these circumstances, Ofcom found that material facts were not presented, omitted or disregarded in a way that resulted in unjust or unfair treatment to Mr Hussain in the programme as broadcast. :D
Altaf Hussain’s legal team had complained that Mr Hussain was treated unjustly or unfairly in the programme as broadcast because Mr Hussain was accused of being a British “asset” who worked for the UK authorities and received “assistance for acts the UK Government want him to do”.
Hussain’s legal team said that the programme implied that Mr Hussain was a “traitor of Pakistan” and added that the allegations were malicious and had placed Mr Hussain in a “detrimental position”. The legal team alleged that the programme was part of a “campaign of abuse and defamation” mounted by Geo TV against Mr Hussain which involved dozens of news filed from London by Geo’s reporting team and many talks shows on the channel. Geo's owner is a Pakjabi !!!
Geo TV said that it didn’t suggest at any point that Mr Hussain was a “traitor” to Pakistan and its Mr Hussain himself who brought up this aspect which Geo said was “pure conjecture…without foundation” and “unevidenced”.Geo TV argued that Mr Hussain’s complaint was an attempt at stopping free and proper reporting of him and MQM and made for political purposes. The Ofcom concluded that “in the particular circumstances of this case, and taking account of all the relevant contextual factors, Ofcom considered that Mr Hussain was not treated unjustly or unfairly in the programme as broadcast. Ofcom has not upheld this complaint by Mr Hussain of unjust or unfair treatment in the programme as broadcast”. Case closed ! Altaf Bhai can now sulk privately

Paki Foreign Office "Spits Out Venom" Against USA And India

Tit-for-Tat: All US diplomats in Pakistan to face restrictions
ISLAMABAD: In a tit-for-tat move, the Foreign Office on Thursday announced that all the US diplomats in Pakistan would be facing restrictions from Friday (today) under which they won’t be able to roam around without seeking permission from the authorities concerned.
The US restrictions on the Pakistani diplomats will come into effect today. Under the Trump administration’s decision, the officials of the Pakistan Embassy and four consulates are required to get permission from the State Department five days before going beyond the set limits. So, it is just a lot of bureaucratic hassles which will definitely hurt the Echendee of the Paki Diplomutts and their families . Forms- well in advance - may have to be filled out citing reasons and length of trip for going beyond the set limits. Non-work related reasons like attending marriage parties, shopping for electronics, sightseeing etc are most likely to be rejected !
Meanwhile, embarrassed and humiliated beyond words that top militant leaders are residing inside Afghanistan and using it as a base to attack Pakistan in full view of Nato and US troops, the Trump administration has turned down Islamabad’s request to put the name of Jamaat-ul-Ahrar leader Umer Khalid Khurasani aka Abdul Wali on the UNSC sanctions committee’s list. The angst shows right here !
The government was reluctant to name the US which stalled this move but rather just pointed to “a member” of the committee while accusing it of “double standards”. The Pakis always show their Pakistaniyat in the way they speak out !!
Left with nothing more than “disappointed”, the Foreign Office spokesman remarked, “We are deeply disappointed over the failure of the Sanctions Committee to list Wali who is a known terrorist and has the blood of hundreds of innocent Pakistanis on his hands”. Were these "snakes" not nurtured or trained in their own backyard and now they are coming back to bite them- as predicted in advance by Hillary Clinton
He argued that if Jamaat-ul-Ahrar had been listed by the Sanctions Committee, then its leader should also have been listed. If Hafiz Suar can be protected so can the Ahrar leader. Two can play this game, as the Pakis have now discovered !
“This action demonstrates the double standards prevailing in the international fight against terrorism and also show complete disregard of the sacrifices rendered by Pakistan in this fight,” he added without saying clearly that the Trump administration was demonstrating double standards. :(( You can only go so far in criticizing a country who still provides your daily "bread and butter"
When questions were raised at the weekly media briefing, the spokesman responded, “As the discussions of the Sanctions Committee are confidential, we are not in a position to comment on these deliberations. The committee has not yet formally conveyed this development to us”. There are more important matters for the committee to deal with, not only Pakistan !
The US also announced that Pakistani diplomats in Washington would be facing similar restrictions.
However, behind-the-scene deliberations, which have failed to produce results, continue, with the spokesman saying, “Negotiations are ongoing between the two sides on the matter”.
While Bangladesh has been trying to lobby for India to be admitted as an observer at the OIC at a time when Delhi sabotages Saarc conferences, the spokesman to a query said that India cannot get representation in the OIC in any form. Being the First Islami Atomi Takat , Pakiland still carries a "lot of clout " in the Islamic Club !
“India, as an aggressor state, is responsible for the massive human rights violations of Kashmiri Muslims over the last 70 years. There are numerous OIC resolutions condemning the Indian atrocities in the Indian Held Kashmir. So, how a country that is already violating the OIC resolutions, can become a part of that organization?” he questioned. The Angst Clearly Shows Here Once Again  !

Pakistan, US to impose travel restrictions on each other
"Pakistan decided to impose travel restrictions on US diplomats working in Islamabad, a day before travel restrictions announced by Washington come into effect Friday.
According to the new rules, which also enter into force tomorrow, American diplomats will require special permission from the government to travel beyond a 40-kilometre radius from the designation location.
Mohammad Faisal, the spokesperson for Pakistan's foreign ministry, confirmed that Islamabad and Washington are placing travel restrictions on each other's diplomats starting tomorrow.
The ongoing scuffle between the two nations hit an all-time low after a Pakistani motorcyclist was killed when a US diplomat jumped a traffic signal in Islamabad, and another local was injured when he was hit by a American official's vehicle in a separate incident.
....."
Pak imposes the restriction a day before. Hence, it is more powerful than Khan. 40 km. is nothing in the US. They will be restricted to a narrow area and depend on permission for every move.

Terroristan - April 24, 2018

Post by Peregrine »

X Posted on the India-Myanmar news and discussion, Analyzing CPEC and Sri Lanka - News and Discussion Threads

After all other cases World Wide in General and Hambantota along with Gwadar in Particular Kyaukpyu is the latest victim - Ab Tera Kya Hoga Terroristaniya?

The fishing port that may become a $10 billion Chinese debt bomb

The town of Kyaukpyu, nestled around a small fishing port on the Bay of Bengal, has the air of a place expecting to get rich soon.

In the seaside market, stalls of seafood unloaded from wooden fishing boats floating in the rubbish-strewn harbor have been joined by stacks of Chinese-made toys and smartphones. Nearby, cattle graze between building sites as high-rise offices and hotels replace weather-stained bungalows. Fine-dining rooftop restaurants and a golf course underline the sense of transition.

Much of the development, and a jump in land prices, are anticipating a gigantic prize for this remote Myanmar town of 50,000 people: $10 billion to build a deep-sea port and industrial zone, financed by China. The investment plan -- seven times the cost of Chinese-built ports in Sri Lanka and Cameroon -- has put Kyaukpyu at the center of a debate in Myanmar and across Asia as to who really benefits from China’s grand Belt and Road strategy.

“The real danger of the port is that its extreme expense could lead the Myanmar government to take out an unsustainable level of debt,” said Greg Poling, director of the Asia Maritime Transparency Initiative, at the Center for Strategic and International Studies in Washington. “That, in combination with other current and future projects in Myanmar, could in the coming years lead to a debt trap.”

Those concerns have stalled development since the previous military government chose China’s CITIC Group to build the port three years ago. CITIC, China’s first state-owned investment corporation, has proposed taking a 70 percent stake in the project, with the remainder split between the Myanmar government and a consortium of local firms. The Chinese company would run the zone for up to 75 years and would finance Myanmar’s stake.

“We keep hearing it will be built since 2015, but nothing has happened so far,” said Shwe Shwe Maung, 34, the head of KaBalan, a village of 460 households in the area marked for the economic zone. “We don’t know exactly what the impact will be, but we’re all hoping that it will bring jobs.”

Some senior government officials are concerned that a nation with a smaller economy than the Dominican Republic may struggle to service and repay the billions of dollars Myanmar would need to borrow for the project.

“The amount of interest is quite substantial, and not like the loans we got from the Japanese government -- the loans from China are much more expensive,” said Soe Win, a member of the ruling National League for Democracy’s central economic committee and a candidate to become Myanmar’s next central bank governor. He declined to give details of the proposed loan.

The Japan International Cooperation Agency is helping finance a $3.28 billion economic zone at Thilawa port, south of Yangon. The Thilawa development has raised further questions about Myanmar’s need for such a large facility in Kyaukpyu (pronounced CHOW-pew) or whether it would simply be a conduit for China, run by Chinese companies.

“Is this deep-sea port being made to benefit Myanmar?” said Ken Tun, founder and chief executive of Myanmar’s Parami Energy, the only local firm to be short-listed for the development. “If we have a deep sea port, but it’s not controlled by Myanmar, that’s a problem.”

One major concern for some members of the government is what happened in Sri Lanka. In 2008, a joint venture with China began building a deep-water port at Hambantota. When Sri Lanka couldn’t repay the loan for the project, it ended up ceding the port to China for 99 years last year in exchange for debt relief. “China is trying to influence political events in Myanmar in many ways,” Soe Win said in an interview. “But what we are afraid of is that we will end up like Sri Lanka.”

Lessons for Leaders Eying China’s Belt-and-Road Billions

Toe Aung Myint, permanent secretary of the Myanmar Ministry of Commerce, which oversees the project management committee, rejects the suggestion that the port would entail too much debt, saying construction would happen in stages.

“Myanmar and Sri Lanka are not the same,” Aung Myint said in an interview. “Only based on the success of the first phase, we will do another phase.”

CITIC directed questions regarding the port to the Myanmar government. “We are unable to disclose information regarding the negotiation to the public,” Zhang Yue, the head of CITIC Myanmar, said in an email.

Soe Win isn’t the only one worried about the long-term plans for Kyaukpyu. Located on the eastern edge of the Bay of Bengal, the town is almost directly opposite INS Varsha, where the Indian navy will base its new fleet of nuclear submarines.

A Myanmar government official familiar with China’s plans for Kyaukpyu said military attaches from the U.S., Australia and countries in Southeast Asia have all expressed concern that China wants to build a port that has strategic as well as economic advantages.

“China needs some sort of access or staging facilities in several different places in the Indian Ocean,” said David Brewster, a senior fellow at Australia’s National Security College and an expert on India-China maritime security. “Myanmar would be a good place to have a naval base.”

Myanmar’s government may have little alternative to a Chinese loan if it wants to build the port. The political outrage sparked in the U.S. and Europe over the treatment of the Rohingya minority has left it with few allies among developed nations.

Kyaukpyu, 400 kilometers (250 miles) north-west of the capital, Yangon, is in Rakhine state, where more than 600,000 Rohingya have been driven from their homes into neighbouring Bangladesh since last August, in what the United Nations’ top human rights official has called “ethnic cleansing.” While most of the clashes happened further north, the conflict rattled investors, prompting China to send a group of diplomats to Rakhine in December.

“They wanted to learn more about the security of their investments,” said Aung Dung, 71, chairman of the Kyaukpyu branch of the NLD, who met the delegation. “The Chinese have quite a lot going on down here.”

Pipeline Links

The town already has oil and gas loading terminals, built since 2013, that feed pipelines transporting the fuel directly to Yunnan province in Western China. A rail link is planned to connect the container port.

“Kyaukpyu is definitely growing,” Yan Myo Aung, 54, chairman of Kyaukpyu branch of the Arakan National Party, whose family operates a number of local retail businesses. “We hope that the Special Economic Zone will add to that.”

Shop owner Saw Maung Nu is one of many local residents who are anticipating a windfall.

“I built this house and shop here two years ago because of the development,” said Saw, 58, a father of eight, in Thaing Shaung, a smattering of houses outside Kyaukpyu in the center of the proposed industrial zone. “I thought all the people coming to work here might need to buy things.”

He said land prices have risen from $20,000 an acre to $50,000 an acre and he’s hoping the government will pay the market rate to buy him out.

Even without the potential military benefits of Kyaukpyu, the port’s commercial advantages make it a key part of China’s maritime Belt and Road strategy.

CITIC says the terminal would have an annual capacity for 4.9 million containers, more than the current throughput of Brazil’s biggest container terminal, as well as loading oil for the pipeline. With the rail link, it would give exporters in Yunnan a short-cut to the Indian Ocean, bypassing the disputed waters in the South China Sea and the congested Straits of Malacca. I have stressed this point "many a time"

“Yunnan is very important for them, it’s landlocked,” said Soe Win. “We will be happy if they use their Kyaukpyu port as a commercial port. But if they would like to turn it into a kind of military base, then we’ll be very, very sad.”

Public Relations Fiasco For Paki Airline :D

PIA eats its words after backlash on ‘5 hours earlier arrival’ announcement
ISLAMABAD – Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) has withdrawn an announcement, asking passengers to reach at least five hours prior to their boarding time in order to catch their flight at New Islamabad Airport.
National flag-carrier on Thursday made an announcement which reads, “Valued PIA customers, in light of the traffic congestion due to strict security checks at entry points of the new Islamabad International Airport, you are kindly requested to report at least 5 hours prior to departure time for your international flights.”The national flag carrier had made the announcement to avoid traffic congestion which it said was due to the strict security checks.A PIA spokesman said the letter was mistakenly released; therefore, passengers are requested to follow the old timing to reach the airport.
Public Relations Dept need to be outsourced ( to a Chini outfit under CPEC Umbrella) ASAP

Meet Khawaja's Asif's Replacement . The New And Improved Paki Foreign Minister :D

Khurram Dastagir gets another portfolio of foreign minister
ISLAMABAD – Prime Minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi on Friday approved ( after "recommended" by Deep State! ) the name of Minister for Defence Khurram Dastagir as new foreign minister of Pakistan, reported local media.
The position fell vacant after the Islamabad High Court (IHC) disqualified former foreign minister Khawaja Muhammad Asif for not declaring his foreign work permit ( became collateral damage due to Ganja's disqualification !) and bank account in nomination papers for 2013 general elections.
On April 26, Khawaja Asif, who is a central leader of PML-N and had contested elections from Sialkot in 2013, was declared ineligible unanimously for holding office, on account of Article 62 (1)(f) of the constitution in a case related to his foreign permit (iqama).
He also needed to attend classes on Diplomacy 101
Khurram Dastgir previously served as the Minister for Commerce in the third government of PML-N from 2014 to 2017. Khan studied engineering from the California Institute of Technology and economics at Bowdoin College before being elected to National Assembly of Pakistan in 2008 general election. Get ready to hear "Engineering analogies " in this diplomatic position. Hope his language is a bit better than the Sialkoti Asif
After getting re-elected to the National Assembly in 2013 general election, he was appointed as Minister for State for Science and Technology, Minister of State for Privatisation and Minister of State for Commerce until he was made Minister for Commerce in 2014. Obviously, this portfolio is (a deserved or undeserved) promotion for him !

Pakistan: Lawyer files petition in Supreme Court to stop Chinese from buying land

LAHORE: The Supreme Court of Pakistan has been petitioned by a senior lawyer to stop the Chinese from acquiring proprietary rights of land in the country on the plea that they require it for the multi-billion dollar China-Pakistan Economic Corridor.

According to The Nation, the petition was filed by the Barrister Zafarullah Khan of the Watan Party.

Khan claimed that Chinese citizens were being given out-of-turn benefits in the name of CPEC and "were acquiring land on lease which was against the sovereignty of the state."

The over USD 60 billion CPEC is a collection of infrastructure projects started in 2013.

Barrister Khan said the Chinese continue to enjoy many other privileges as recreational parks and residential colonies were being established for them in Pakistan.

He claimed that now Pakistani citizens were equating the CPEC to the East India Company that led to British occupation of the Indian subcontinent between the 18th and 20th centuries.

Khan said that the CPEC agreement between Pakistan and China is a one-sided contract favouring Beijing and severely compromising Islamabad's sovereignty.

He asked the apex court to issue immediate directives to the government to review the terms and conditions of the CPEC accord and to stop the Chinese from directly investing in Pakistan.

The case was registered on behalf of the state through a police officer.
According to contents of the FIR, around 150 workers of the PTM, some of them mentioned in the case, held a corner meeting in the Sultanabad area of Manghopir under direction of their leader, Manzoor Pashteen.
the speakers allegedly levelled “serious charges” against military institutions
So far, no one had been arrested, added the officials.
AoA. Baki HS&D saved. By the way, many of these charges can be leveled against the baki parliament (whenever it meets). Good times ahead.

Paki "Losses" From "War ON Terrorism" . New Sialkoti Statitics Unveiled .

Not aid, US has to give $9 billion under CSF agreement to Pakistan: Report
ISLAMABAD: US has to give Pakistan $9 billion on bills pending before US administration on account of the Coalition Support Fund (CSF). Minister for Finance Miftah Ismail confirmed there were pending claims of $9 billion against the US on account of CSF dues. The US Congressional committee had recently proposed $350 million of the total $700 million for Pakistan but half of amount may not be released till the defense secretary certifies to Congress that Islamabad has taken actions against the Haqqani network. Pakis are being "squeezed" like an orange by the New POTUS
The Ministry of Finance hopes ( "hope" is of course "eternal" but real politik cannot be based on "hope" alone !) that Islamabad would be getting Rs15.204 billion on account of reimbursement of CSF amounts from USA as revised estimates in outgoing fiscal year 2017-18 against initial estimates of Rs141.797 billion. The government has estimated that it will get just Rs15.9 billion on account of defence receipts from USA in the budget 2018-19.
After becoming an ally of US-led war against terror, Pakistan and US placed a mechanism for reimbursement of bills amount after launching military offensive against terror networks since 2001. According to a US Congressional Review, Pakistan was "caught padding the bill" . Fictitious invoices were submitted like bombing a Taliban Air Force Base in Afghanistan, or building non existent roads in FATA !
“In last 17 years, Islamabad received $14 billion from USA on account of CSF amount,” said one top official of Finance Division in background interview and added that over $9 billion claims were still pending before Trump administration. Pakis are now "disqualified" from taking the US Taxpayers for a ride
Under the CSF mechanism, Pakistan claims all such expenditure which were already incurred for mobilisation of troops and launching of offensive against terror networks in tribal and other areas adjacent to Afghanistan and then US reimbursed the amounts after hectic reconciliation.
“Even reconciled amounts has not yet been fully paid back by USA,” said senior official and added that Washington provided peanuts to Pakistan so far on this front. Paki angst showing here :D
Another official said that Pakistan had to bear expenses of war on terror after getting borrowings from domestic and foreign lenders keeping in view yawning financing of budget deficit on which the government to borne interest rate which was paid with taxpayers money. There is need to incorporate cost of debt servicing on the claims sent out to USA on CSF, said the official. :(( Pakistan, after 71 years in existence , must learn to stand up on its own two feat. In life, there is no "free lunch" ( even if you are an atomi takat !)
On the other hand, Pakistan’s official document Economic Survey for 2017-18 states that during the last 17 years, the direct and indirect cost incurred by Pakistan due to incidents of terrorism amounted to $126.79 billion equivalent to Rs10,762.64 billion.

Update on the travel restrictions on baki diplomats and their extended families.

US travel ban on Pak officials, families begins
State Department has extended the ban on officials and has included their immediate members of the family as well.
v
isa categories of A1, and A2 and also the members of their families, including children.
"Over 250 Pakistani individuals altogether might get affected by this ban"
According to the warning sent by the State Department, the Pakistani diplomatic staff would need permission at least five days ahead from US authorities if they need to travel outside of the imposed 25 miles radius.
The warning also says if the officials do not hear back from the US authorities within five days, their request should be considered as denied.
This is the first time for Pakistani diplomats serving in America and their families face such travel regulations, whereas in the past US governments have practised such codes on Russian and Chinese officials.
Pakhanistan is in august company, no doubt.

Explosion reported near railway track in Balochistan’s Dasht town
A loud explosion was heard near a railway track in Dasht town of Kharan district today. The bomb disposal squad (BDS) officials found a homemade bomb from the site of explosion which was kept in a pressure cooker. Explosive material weighing 18 to 20 kilogrammes was used in the homemade bomb, which was a timed device, BDS officials told. However, BDS personnel managed to defuse the bomb and security officials cleared the area surrounding railway track. No loss of life was reported in the explosion that occurred near the railway track, but trains that were scheduled to move to further were stopped, sources said. The bomb disposal squad had reached the site following an explosion there in the morning.
"Jummah Explosions" and "Friday Fireworks " are quite common in Pakiland, specially in the province of Balochistan ( like this one  )

Paki Attempts To "Play Spoiler " In India - Russia Relationship :D

India likely to be snared into CAATSA
What New Delhi does not realise is that one cannot run with the hare as well as hunt with the hounds. Buying defence equipment from the US as well as trying to procure arms from Russia may no longer be possible for India.
Pursuing the Triumf deal may well ensnare India into CAATSA (Countering America’s Adversaries Through Sanctions Act). CAATSA became a US federal legislation after being signed into law by President Donald Trump on August 2, 2017. CAATSA seeks to impose sanctions on Russia, Iran, and North Korea. Under CAATSA, five Russian entities including Russian intelligence agencies and 19 individuals were being targeted in response to charges that they tried to influence the 2016 US presidential elections.Interestingly, on March 16, 2018, eleven US senators wrote a letter to the US State Department asking for imposition of sanctions on countries that buy the Russian S-400 system. Besides India, four more countries China, Turkey, Saudi Arabia, and Qatar, are keen to acquire the S-400.

Our security is far more important than kowtowing to some imagined amreki fantasy about their "enemies". What about India countering India's’s adversaries, when the hell does that happen ??

We are not part of any of their shenanigans and nor do we wish to be. What about the amreki weapons sale to the pakis, especially, of the nuclear-capable F-16s, that are an obvious weapons platform against India and of much less utility against terrorists??

This new movie "Raazi" by Meghna Gulzar is based on true story of an Indian agent.

http://www.thehindu.com/todays-paper/tp ... 446864.ece

Harinder Sikka speaks to SANGEETA BAROOAH PISHAROTY about his debut novel based on the real-life story of an Indian Kashmiri spy

It was during his disillusionment with patriotism, in the thick of the Kargil conflict, that he stumbled upon her existence. He named her Sehmat Khan, to allow her to remain in anonymity, and to share her unusual life with readers.

Harinder S. Sikka’s debut novel, “Calling Sehmat”, recently brought out by Konark Publishers, is about an Indian Kashmiri undercover agent operating in Pakistan during the 1971 Indo-Pak war. Sikka, a former Indian Navy officer, elaborates how he found her story. He went to Kargil during the 1999 war to write media articles on the Army’s alleged intelligence failure there. “I was very angry then and even questioned the patriotism of certain people in the Intelligence Department. There, during one such discussion, an Army officer told me that not everyone is the same. I was not too convinced about it upon which he gave the example of his mother, much to my surprise. She married a Pakistani Army officer to provide India with classified information during the 1971 war. She was a Kashmiri Muslim.”

In conversation at a New Delhi hotel, Sikka, now Director, Corporate Affairs, Nicholas Piramal, says, “Kargil passed by but I often thought about the daring act of this woman undercover who returned to the country, pregnant with the child of her Pakistani husband, and bore the Indian Army a good officer.” A lot of effort later, Sikka met her at her house in Maler Kotla, in Punjab. “But she would not speak much. Slowly, she opened up but I still don’t know how she managed to take out such secret information from Pakistani intelligence. All the information she passed on from there matched with the Indian intelligence report here,” he states, adding, “Though I found out that she used to tutor General Yahya Khan’s grandchildren.”

The most important information provided by Sehmat was Pakistan’s plan to sink INS Viraat. “Our Government could save its biggest pride on the sea only because of her.”

The author says it took him eight years to fictionalise her story and knit everything into a cohesive narrative. “It was important to fictionalise it as it would have been dangerous for her family.” Her son is out of the Army now, and Sehmat is no more, Sikka adds.
The gaps

But certain things are still with him. “I am yet to fathom how Sehmat’s father, a rich businessman in Kashmir then, could push his daughter to do such a dangerous thing. It was the ultimate test of patriotism for the family. Despite being an ex-soldier myself, I feel proud to admit that I learnt the real meaning of patriotism from her story.” She was meant to be just a facilitator for the Indian Intelligence, but she went far ahead of it, he states. In return for her service to the nation, all she wanted was to unfurl the Indian tricolour at her house. “Till her death, she did it, unofficially.”

Sikka underlines that the book “is also an attempt to highlight one of the finest examples of extreme loyalty of the Kashmiri people towards India.”

As a tribute to her, he plans to formally launch the book next week aboard INS Viraat, now docked at Mumbai yard.

Trouble ahead!

Maulana Abdul Aziz not allowed to lead Friday prayers
The capital administration held five rounds of discussions with deposed cleric of Lal Masjid Maulana Abdul Aziz and did not allow him to lead Friday prayers and deliver the weekly sermon in the mosque.
Shuhada Foundation of Lal Masjid had announced on May 8 that Maulana Aziz would lead the Friday prayers and deliver a sermon on May 11 after a gap of over three years.
One of the ICT officials said the cleric insisted that it was his right to deliver a sermon at Lal Masjid.
Scores of women clad in black burqas with some of them carrying sticks gazed down at the streets from the windows and rooftops of the new Jamia Hafsa in G-7/3-4 as women police commandos wearing black uniform roamed in the street below in defensive gears.
A large number of male students were also seen at the G-7 seminary and around Lal Masjid.
Well, well, well. At the last fracas the maulana tried to sneak out of the infamous seminary dressed up in a burqa. This time he may have to sneak in wearing a burqa. But the kendo-styx sistahs are ready.

Admitting it, finally! But, yet, the 212 million population figures at the end of 2017 are an under count.

‘Population growth rate has alarmed govt planners’
The 2.4pc population growth rate revealed in the 2018 census has alarmed government planners, as it is much higher than the estimations used for development planning Planning Commission Deputy Chairman Sartaj Aziz said on Thursday.
“There is a need for better trained demographers, economists, and statisticians especially in the Planning Commission as we embark on the SDG 2030 agenda and for overall development planning,” he said.

Nawaz Sharif admits Pakistan played a role in 26/11 Mumbai terror attacks

NEW DELHI: Former Pakistan Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif has tacitly admitted in an interview that Pakistan played a role in the 26/11 Mumbai terror attacks.

Speaking to Dawn, Sharif stated that terrorist organisations were thriving in Pakistan and "non-state actors" were responsible for the series of coordinated attacks in Mumbai on November 26, 2008 which claimed over 160 lives.

Without naming Mumbai attack mastermind Hafiz Saeed and Masood Azhar's terror outfits -- Jamaat-ud-Dawah and Jaish-e-Mohammad, -- operating in the country with impunity, Sharif said: "Militant organisations are active. Call them non-state actors, should we allow them to cross the border and kill 150 people in Mumbai?"

The PML-N leader was questioning why the trial into the Mumbai attacks was stalled at a Rawalpindi anti-terrorism court.

"Why can’t we complete the trial? It’s absolutely unacceptable. This is exactly what we are struggling for. President Putin has said it. President Xi has said it," he said.

Sharif, 68, was ousted from power when the Supreme Court disqualified him from holding public office for life following his involvement in the Panama Papers case. In February, the apex court also disqualified Sharif as the head of the ruling Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N).

Citing the military and judiciary establishment, Sharif further said: "You can't run a country if you have two or three parallel governments. This has to stop. There can only be one government - the constitutional one."

The relations between the military and the Sharif government were at its lowest ebb in October 2016 when the latter told the former to act against home grown militant groups or face international isolation.

The Mumbai attack case has entered into the 10th year but none of its suspects in Pakistan has been punished yet, showing that the case had never been in the priority list of the country that appears to be keen to put it under the carpet.

A number of Pakistani witnesses, both official and private, testified and provided evidence against the seven accused, but the Pakistani authorities have been insisting on sending Indian witnesses for reaching a verdict in the case.

Hindu MP Made To Run From Pillar To Post To Get "Some "Justice In The Blasphemous Images Of Lord Shiva

Hindu MP pleads CJ, COAS to take notice of blasphemous images (Portraying Imran Khan as Lord Shiva)
Islamabad - Pakistan People’s Party MNA Ramesh Lal has pleaded the Chief Justice and Army Chief to take notice of the blasphemous images in which PTI chief Imran Khan has been portrayed as Hindu god, Lord Shiva.
“It is blasphemy and it has hurt the religious sentiments of hundreds of thousands of Hindus residing in Pakistan. I, through Daily The Nation, appeal to Chief Justice of Pakistan and Army Chief to take notice of the matter,” Ramesh Lal said. IMO, the Blasphemy Laws of Pakiland are "strictly reserved for" those who "abuse" PBUH !
He showed his displeasure over the pace of investigation. “We raised the matter in the parliament on May 11 but after passage of one month situation is still the same”, he added. The Hindu community of Pakistan is held "hostage" (and a political football ) and a convenient target to "hit" India
After the appearance of Imran Khan's photograph as Lord Shiva last month, the Parliament ordered the Federal Investigation Agency to probe the matter.According to officials, the page was run by two people and the name of one is Shahid Mehmood and it was being operated from Saudi Arabia. The members of PTI, when blamed for blasphemy, passed the buck on supporters of rival Nawaz Sharif's Pakistan Muslim League (PML-N) of circulating the offensive photograph on the social media site. Nowadays all the "ills of Pakiland" are conveniently laid at the doorsteps of Nawaz Sharif and his PML party !
The page, titled “We Love Nawaz Sharif, Shahbaz Sharif and PML(N)”, where the picture appeared was allegedly run by the supporters of former prime minister Nawaz Sharif and his party PML-N.
PPP's leader Ramesh Lal accused the ruling party of hurting the religious sentiments of the Hindus, which, according to him was against the Constitution of the country. On the complaint of MNAs Ramesh Lal and Lal Chand Malhi, the matter was referred to a sub-committee on the government assurances.
During the last meeting, the officials told the committee that the picture of Imran Khan as Lord Shiva has been removed from the social media but it was not true, we showed it to the DG FIA later, it was up and running, Lal said. He said he believes religion preaches tolerance and he himself respects all religions and holy people. It is a very serious matter, we are hurt and the case must be tried in the Anti-terrorism court, Ramesh Lal said. India should take up this matter with the GOP at the highest level in a discreet way . In the same way that Pakiland has assumed the role of guardianship of Muslims who live in India !
PPP lawmaker expressed his dismay over the Ministry of Information for making a false statement during the last meeting that the blasphemous social media page had been removed from the web.In the meeting of sub-committee on the government assurance on Friday, officials from related ministries informed that they initiated the process of blocking the controversial pages by writing to head offices of the social media company. They said the pages would be blocked in due course of time. But the complainant wanted more than just verbal assurances.
“It is not that simple. Certain people have committed a blasphemy and had hurt the sentiments of Hindus. They must be dealt seriously that others in future refrain from doing any such activity which could result in hurting the sentiments of anyone,” Ramesh Lal demanded. “We have very peacefully tackled the matter and have not opted for any protest but it falls in the category of terrorism, we demand an immediate action,” the lawmaker added. It is the duty of the COAS to at least give some sort of assurance that he will see that justice is done !!!

World War 3: Pakistan’s Defence Minister accuses world of IGNORING India’s ARMS RACE

PAKISTAN’S Defence Minister Khurram Dastgir-Khan has accused the international community of ignoring the arms race instigated by India, while continuing to sell the country a huge number of weapons, in a sign of growing tensions between the long-term foes.

Speaking during a seminar entitled ‘India - A hypocritical regional power’ organised by the Institute of Strategic Studies (ISS), the top lawmaker said the world was oblivious to the real face of India.

He said: “Human rights abuses and other issues are rising on a daily basis but the international community is not paying attention to the arms race and hunger of India.

“The foreign powers don’t come to India to taste their spices, but to sell their arms.”

The politician also explicitly referred to India’s hostile relationship with Pakistan, saying: “India will not open up its market for Pakistan.

“India is a supporter of free trade with Pakistan, but on its own terms.”

He accused the Indian media of misreporting facts, while also claiming the Indian government continues to oppress independence movements in the Kashmir region of north-west India.

Mr Dastgir-Khan stated India cannot employ negative tactics to deny the right of self-determination of the Kashmiris, in a sign of the ongoing conflict along the disputed border.

He also called on the international community to see a different perspective of India, to that which is depicted in the media and films.

Speaking to VOA, the Defence Minister stated that despite the ongoing hostility between the two nations, good relations are possible by pointing to the landmark inter-Korean summit which took place between the North and South Korean leaders at the end of April.

Commenting on the Inter-Korea summit, he said: “It is that kind of courage that is required for us to transcend the past.

Courage will also be required to see that peace has greater dividends for our future generations than hostilities.”

However, he accused India of losing a “unique and very valuable moment” in Pakistani history to promote mutual peace between the nations, after former Pakistani Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif visited New Delhi in 2014 to attend the inauguration ceremony of Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

He stated: “This unique, peaceful moment, this political consensus in Pakistan that in the 21st century we should move forward with India by finding peace with our eastern neighbour, that moment is merely decimated and I think a great opportunity has been lost since 2014 of bringing our two countries together.

"India has created a string of bases along the Pakistani border in which now they have all the material and men, including their air force, in which they could if, God forbid, a situation arises, mobilise extremely quickly. This is a reality.”

The news comes as India has increased its military spending by 5.5 per cent to £47billion in 2017, according to a report published by the Stockholm International Peace Research Institute (SIPRI).

The report said: “The Indian government plans to expand, modernise and enhance the operational capability of its armed forces, motivated at least partially by tensions with China and Pakistan.”

Shashank Joshi, a senior research fellow at the London-based Royal United Services Institute (RUSI), commented on the findings, saying: “Clearly, India's relations with both Pakistan and China have deteriorated over the past decade, and particularly since 2016 or so.”

Kashmir has been a contested region since India and Pakistan won independence from the UK in August 1947, and both nations have laid claims to the region.

Kashmir was free to accede to India or Pakistan following partition, and local leader Maharaja Hari Singh chose India, which led to a two-year war in 1947.

Violence regularly breaks out along the border between the Indian and Pakistani controlled parts of Jammu and Kashmir, and both countries accuse each other of instigating attacks and increasing tensions.

Property Tycoon And "First Class Crook" Malik Riaz Is Above The Law Because Of His High Fauji And Political Connections !

Pakistan’s most influential man is above the law
Asia Times
By Imad Zafar
May 11, 2018
In a recent development, the Supreme Court of Pakistan has declared the allotment of Bahria Town Karachi land illegal and stopped it from selling any further plots and houses. The decision came as a surprise as Bahria Town is the largest real-estate empire in Pakistan and its owner, Malik Riaz, is considered one of the most powerful and influential people in the country.
Riaz, a close aide to the politician Asif Zardari, has always enjoyed good connections in the corridors of power, and it is not the first time that he or one of his housing schemes has faced legal problems. Last year the Bahria Town rampage claimed the lives of two people, wounded around 150, including a dozen people who were paralyzed for life. The chief justice of Pakistan took notice of the incident, but nothing was done to bring the culprits to justice.
Since media groups (except for Dawn) do not run stories on Riaz and/or the alleged scams perpetrated by his housing society, Bahria Town, fearing a cut in his housing society’s advertising budget, he is almost untouchable.
The rise of Riaz is an interesting story in itself, as it shows how the legal, political and social structure in Pakistan can be exploited, and how it is tailor-made to strengthen the ruling elite and influential people.
Riaz was a white-collar worker trying to make ends meet by doing different kinds of work. In 1979, he took a loan of few thousand rupees from a friend and secured a small contract in the military engineering complex. This was the beginning of the largest Pakistani real-estate empire.
At that time, Riaz was a lower-middle-class man who was not even able to get his daughter treated in hospital and had to sell his wife’s jewelry to pay her medical bills. He also went through the pain of watching his children endure hunger. So he learned the lesson that this society only honors and respects the rich.
With the first small contract, he started building relationships in the civil and military construction sectors. Gradually, he started to build houses for the movers and shakers and finally came up with the idea of a housing society, one that can now easily be termed one of the most luxurious and largest housing schemes in Pakistan.
With the help of his connections, Riaz used the name of the Pakistan Navy for his housing society. Although it filed a case against him for using its name, not a single judge was able to pass a verdict against Riaz or stop him from using it. Knowing the right people and paying them off makes a difference !
Riaz, with the help of his strong connections in the civil and military establishments, gradually expanded his business. He grabbed land from people who were not ready to sell and also bought land all around Pakistan at low prices to expand his real-estate business across the country.
He successfully removed all the legal hindrances in his way by buying the judges in the courts and officers in law-enforcement and making friends in the establishment. In an interview a few years ago with Geo News, Riaz said that every man can be bought and that he used his money and influence to get approval for his housing authority. It has been reported in the past, that his "influence" went high as the ex COAS Kayani , whose ( Kayani's civilian ) brother had also been "purchased" by Malik !
Riaz established profitable relationships and provided perks and privileges to police officers, judges, politicians and a few high officials in the army,
In the words of the famous journalist and author, Dr Ayesha Siddiqa, Riaz can be best described as one of the many non-state actors that the Pakistani state is in the habit of partnering with. Be it Riaz, Sipha-e-Sahaba, Jaish-e-Mohammad, Lashkar-e-Taiba or others, these non-state actors have become a problem due to their links with the state, which they then in turn use and show off for enhancing their power. And now, Riaz is considered one of the richest and most influential Pakistanis.
Riaz’s success in building a business empire by exploiting the loopholes in the legal and political system proves that the lectures against corruption and discussions on morals look so fascinating and ideal on the talk shows and in newspapers but have nothing to do with reality. This is a situation where you have to pay a bribe even to get your child’s birth certificate; where you have to use contacts and influence to get admitted to a government hospital for treatment; where even getting a child enrolled at a government school requires either bribery or a phone call from an influential person; and where even to get a place to bury a loved one requires a bribe or phone call from an influential person. It is almost impossible not to surrender to the system by accepting that might is right. There have been stories in the past on how he "financially seduced" the son of Ex CJP Iftikhar Chaudry - to get what he wanted for him from the Paki Justice System
So if Riaz, instead of submitting to the system and begging to the influential, decided to exploit the system to his advantage, which most of us also do in an individual capacity according to our ability and position, and as a result became such a powerful man that even the influential and movers and shakers are now in his hands, it is actually not his fault. It is the fault of our hypocritical standards and practices.
Until we start respecting the law and stop disrespecting people on the basis of their social position, and stop saluting the people who have big financial or influential positions and do not strive to make a balanced social structure, people like Riaz will arise every now and then. The whole Paki system is corrupt from top to bottom . And it is unlikely to change, until a "Khomeni type revolution" topples the whole edifice !!!
A man who was once unable to take care of his children properly because of lack of finances has become a tycoon on whose charity thousands of people in Pakistan eat three meals daily or get their health treatment for free. He has earned enough even for future generations and has made sure that his grandsons and their grandsons will not have to suffer the miseries that millions in this country suffer. In Pakiland every man is for himself and herself. Many high influentials have foreign passport as insurance just in case of .....
Whether the Supreme Court and government agencies are able to hold him accountable remains the most important question, as it is not about bringing a single individual to justice, it is about discouraging the mindset of exploiting the system and the weak in society. If the courts and other legal institutions are not able to apprehend him this time, then it will appear that appeals to the rule of law, abiding by the law, saying no to corruption, and avoiding taking the law into one’s own hands are just sloganeering intended to somehow keep the common citizens submissive to this rotten, hierarchical and manipulative social order.
