I'm sorry but your loud tone here reflects thinking based out of typically a shortage culture. Grab before the next guy to you does so. You translate that into serving self interest or now National Interest. Surprising you know so little about self preservation.
Your type of thinking may not be very hard to beat. But it's ugliness is very easy to disrespect.

If you cannot understand the meaning then ask . There are lot of ppl around here who are regular (unlike me) and have been here for long time who can answer.
It seems the Uzbeks and Chechens have settled down among the FATA Pashtuns and have intermarried among them. It is they who are at the forefront of this militancy. Looks like they are providing some spine to the FATA Pashtuns.
Looks like for the viewers they remain Uzbeks and foreigners even if they developed new ties of marriage. However over on Indian side they become acceptable as national leaders even with marriage ties.
The FATA Pashtuns were the rabid folks used by TSP Army in their jihadi adventures since 1947. So JC is right that its poetic justice that them folks are falling out and murdering each other.

Tank and Dera Ismail Khan in trouble.
A parallel government is already functioning in South Waziristan with effective outreach into such settled areas of the NWFP as DI Khan, Kohat-Bannu and the provincially administered tribal area of Swat, where the police is either under pressure or has simply run away from the fight. Those who want to negotiate with Baitullah Mehsud, the ruler of South Waziristan and an indirect "controller" of the NWFP, will have to consider a number of factors. The territory they think they can repossess through talks is already "lost" and these talks will have to face tough Al Qaeda conditionalities.
Wow, Musharraf criticizes Pakistani soldiers for being captured:

With Swat, Bannu, Kohat out of TSP coverage area, effectively TSP has no control this entire region.A parallel government is already functioning in South Waziristan with effective outreach into such settled areas of the NWFP as DI Khan, Kohat-Bannu and the provincially administered tribal area of Swat, where the police is either under pressure or has simply run away from the fight.

I just realized after gazing lovingly at the map of to-be-fragmented FTSP (Former TSP) that this is what India would have been, if the Princely States had not been incorporated into linguistic states early on, and the Princes sent off to the French Riviera.
60 years after "independence" from the British East India Company and Yindoostan, and 6 years after surrendering to American Blackwater&Halliburton rule, the whole region is still described as "Khurram Agency", "Orakzai Agency", etc. etc. Legitimizes the ownership of the whole place by corporations.
Then there are all these obvious western colonial names:
Abbotabad.
Attock
Tank
Two questions:
1. What does "Dera" mean, as in Dera Ismail Khan, Dera Baba Nanak (this is inside India), Dera Adam Khel etc? Does it mean, "estate of"? These appear to be towns. How come they are not called Ismailabad, etc? Why the double names which indicate ownership rather than honor&dignity?
2. Can someone please re-draw this map, showing the following somewhere in the 6 future Islamic Republics of the FTSP?
a) BLACKWATER AGENCY
b) ENRON Agency
c) HALLIBURTON AGENCY
d) Dera Gola Pervaiz
e) Dera Bebe Bhutto
f) Dubyabad (new capital of Pakpoonjab)
g) Parkinglotabad (formerly Islamaintbad)

Even in south India, specifically Chennai, Karnataka, "dera" stands for "camping", as in "saar, payyan ration kadaikku munnaady dera pOttirukkaan" (The boy has set up camp in front of the ration shop).

Anga kuda ade varthai use panarangalla?
N^3, precisely. However India did integrate the areas and not just nominally as TSP did by letting the feudal setup to continue in the modern Islamic state.
Dera means camp. All those Dera are encampments setup by various feudal leaders.
Tank is an old, pre-modern name. It was a hotbed of dissent during the British period.
Another place was SWAT. The ruler was called Wali of Swat. there are limericks on that name.
Another key to understanding TSP is the fact that the British set-up cantonments in practically every district.
So it as big Praetorian state between the pre-modern Deras and the British Cantonments. Something like the wild West with all its frontier towns and Fort Dodge type towns.

Pakistan's Unholy Trinity An army chief, a president and a prime minister recrafting the chaos theory?
There is a storm approaching India from the northwest. If our policymakers are aware of it, they have given no sign of being so, or of taking any measures to secure the nation against it. President Musharraf has been re-elected, but it is a pyrrhic victory. He has succeeded in fighting the elections on his own terms—in uniform and elected by the soon-to-be-dissolved national and state assemblies. But far from strengthening him, the election has actually left him weaker. He polled 98 per cent of the votes cast in the national and provincial assemblies, but 42 per cent members voted against him, absenting themselves from the legislatures. This was not exactly a vote of confidence.
To get this endorsement, Musharraf had to surrender most of his executive powers. In a few weeks, there will be a new army chief, most probably General Ashfaq Pervez Kiyani, and a prime minister—Benazir Bhutto who does not love either Musharraf or the army that hanged her father. This means, Musharraf will have to negotiate in order to have his way—something he has not had to do for the last eight years. How this triumvirate will run the state defies comprehension.
The very least that the change will do is to diffuse the authority of the state and reduce the capacity of the government to take decisive action. And that is precisely what Pakistan cannot afford today. For the military, an ideological challenge in its western region is on the brink of overwhelming it.
In India, Musharraf is being held responsible for most of his misfortunes. There is considerable satisfaction at the way Pakistan is getting a dose of the medicine that it was doling out to us for so long. But such glee would be short-sighted. For whatever Pakistan may have done in the past, today it is at war in Waziristan and elsewhere against forces that have long declared their aim to rip apart India's secular society and plant the flag of Islam on the Red Fort. Musharraf's war is, therefore, our war too{what kind of logic is that?}and at present, he's losing on all fronts.
The Lal Masjid confrontation at Islamabad in July ended whatever ambivalence there had been in the Pakistani State towards the Taliban and its own home-grown jehadis. Four days after the assault, the Taliban formally withdrew from its September '06 agreement with Musharraf. Both Ayman al-Zawahiri and Osama bin Laden have branded Musharraf as an American stooge and a traitor to Islam.
Since then, the fighting in the Federally Administered Tribal Areas (FATA) has surged. In '05, it claimed the lives of 81 soldiers. In just the first nine months of this year, 390 soldiers lost their lives. The total number of casualties has quadrupled to over two thousand in nine months. The number of suicide bombings has risen more than tenfold from 22 between '02 and '06 to 41 in the last nine months. The vast majority have taken place since July.
Pakistan cannot win this war by military force alone. The terrain is too forbidding and the Taliban are feeding on the anger generated by NATO's mode of aerial remote-control warfare which does not distinguish between civilians and combatants. In fact, Pakistan is losing the battle. The Taliban have practically seized North Waziristan and parts of the South. In these areas, they have killed the traditional tribal leaders who did not join them, and killed or hounded out government servants and teachers. They've threatened leading journalists in Pakistan with harm to their family to mute criticism or affect coverage. And their numbers are growing. Their Waziristan-based commander, Baitullah Mahsud, is reported to have 35,000 men in arms under his command. Between them and the home-grown jehadis, the Pakistan army faces as many as a hundred thousand men in arms.To no one's surprise, the ambit of terrorism is beginning to spread out of the NWFP into Punjab.
Meanwhile, the Taliban knows time is on their side. They're winning not only in Waziristan, but in Afghanistan too. Karzai is on his knees begging for a peace conference. They've dismissed his efforts, called him a US stooge and refused to negotiate till all foreign forces leave Afghanistan. Baitullah Mahsud's message to Benazir Bhutto has been the same. Announcing that the Taliban will greet her with suicide bombers, he said: "We don't accept President Musharraf and Benazir Bhutto because they only protect the US interest and see things through its glasses. They are only acceptable if they wear the Pakistani glasses."
The truth is NATO and the US cannot win the low intensity conflict. The longer Islamabad stays on the losing side, the more surely will it be destroyed. But throwing its lot with the 'winning side' is no longer an option, it never was. Nor can Pakistan convene a peace conference, for it is too closely identified with the US. The only way out is for Pakistan, India and Afghanistan to undertake a joint initiative to end the conflict in Afghanistan. Without peace in Afghanistan, the radicalisation of Pakistan will never stop. We will be next.{Does blood flow in these vermin journos? Or do they think they are most fat assed and hence what ever they say will become correct? He stops his article there and does not even write what India should negotiate even if it helps Pakistan. This guy is a pure piglet should beforcibly fed with human shit.

Iranian-Aryan Tribes
Interesting pictures on the FATA website. Some of the locals look like Punjabis, others can pass for Europeans. Pathans are not part of our Hindustani composite culture which the Punjabi Paks and Sindhis are. They have more in common with Iranians and Central Asians. Certainly if the time comes back to retake the lost bits of Aryavarta ( only a possibility in a post-nuclear Armageddon scenario) we should allow the FATAs to reintegrate with their homeland Afghanistan and manage their own future

Pakistan Gov't Not Urgent in Rescuing Captured Soldiers From Pro-Taliban Rebels
Einnor Mendoza - AHN News Writer
Islamabad, Pakistan (AHN) - According to some, Pakistan's government has not been acting with any sense of urgency for the release of some 280 soldiers captured by pro-Taliban rebels in Pakistan more than a month ago.
Pro-Taliban rebels had called on the military to leave the area near the South Waziristan tribal region.
"As far as the government's response is concerned it is better to ask them about it, but I believe they have several reasons for not being serious," said Zulfiqar Mehsud, a spokesperson militant leader
Mehsud however pointed out that if one of the kidnapped soldiers was "the son or relative of a general or minister" the government would be more aggressive in its rescue efforts.
"We are very serious about the matter and want to resolve it peacefully," Mehsud added.
The soldiers' capture by the rebels has been a major setback to the Pakistan army.
The Gulf Times reported in April this year that Pakistan's government has reported 160 killed in encounters in South Waziristan.
In previous years, Pakistan signed agreements with pro-Taliban rebels in South Waziristan and North Wziristan, which led to its pull out of many of its troops in Afghanistan. The tribes, for their part, agreed to lessen attacks in the said country.
South Waziristan leader Tahir Yuldashev is said to be an Uzbek Islamist and was once a close confidant of Al Qaeda chief Osama bin Laden.

250 Killed In 4 Days Of Battles In Pakistan _ Deadliest Clashes Since 2001
250 Killed In 4 Days Of Battles In Pakistan _ Deadliest Clashes Since 2001
(AP) Pakistani aircraft bombed a village bazaar packed with shoppers near the Afghan border Tuesday, pushing the death toll to 250 in four days of fighting _ the deadliest clashes since Pakistan threw its support behind the U.S.-led war on terror in 2001.
The attack on Epi village in North Waziristan tribal region killed dozens of militants and civilians _ deaths that are likely to harden domestic opposition to President Gen. Pervez Musharraf's alliance with Washington.
The bazaar was crowded with people buying food to break their daylong Ramadan fast when it was rocked by a dozen explosions that destroyed shops and nearby homes, residents said. Abdul Sattar, a grocery shop owner, said he counted more than 60 dead and more than 150 wounded, including many civilians. Many of the victims were mutilated.
"Some did not have heads, hands or legs. Some people were searching for their children and women," Sattar told The Associated Press by telephone from Epi.
Army spokesman Maj. Gen. Waheed Arshad said military aircraft targeting militant hideouts struck "one or two places" near the town of Mir Ali _ located about 2 1/2 miles from Epi _ and local tribesmen reported about 50 militants were killed.
He said the airstrikes might have killed some civilians who were living in the areas where militant hideouts were targeted, but he had no exact numbers.
"We had confirmed reports about the presence of militants, and the air power was used to target those militant hideouts," he told the AP.
Another resident, Noor Hassan, said both militants and civilians were killed and that he was fleeing the area. He said the nearby village of Hader Khel also was bombed.
The fighting broke out in North Waziristan on Saturday after a roadside bomb hit a truckload of paramilitary troops, sparking bitter clashes. The bodies of dozens of soldiers, many with their throats slit, have been recovered from deserted areas of the region, fleeing residents said.
The violence comes as Musharraf tries to secure another term as president, vowing to shore up Pakistan's effort against Islamic extremism, particularly in its border regions where Osama bin Laden and his deputy Ayman al-Zawahri are suspected to hide.
Pakistani troops have suffered mounting losses as they try to reassert state authority in a swath of mountainous territory where warlords supportive of the Taliban and al-Qaida have seized control. Now the army appears to be resorting to heavy firepower.
Sattar, the shop owner, accused the army of "oppressing" the local Pashtun tribespeople. He said journalists should visit the area so they could see that the "miscreants" _ a byword in Pakistan for militants _ targeted by security forces were in fact women and children.
Pakistan struck a controversial cease-fire deal with militants in North Waziristan last year. U.S. officials criticized the pact, claiming it gave a safe haven for al-Qaida and provided a rear base for Taliban guerrillas fighting NATO troops in Afghanistan.
In July, Pakistan's army redeployed troops at key checkpoints in the region, sparking fresh hostilities. Security forces have since suffered more than 250 casualties, many of them in suicide bombings, and more than 230 soldiers have been kidnapped.
The escalating clashes have sparked debate in Pakistan on whether military action _ widely perceived as done at the bidding of the United States despite Musharraf's insistence it is in the national interest _ can curb Islamic extremism or only serves to enflame it.
"Rather than losing soldiers and killing civilians in indiscriminate bombings (the government) should revive the peace agreements with tribesmen and devise an effective strategy to flush out foreign militants," an editorial in The Nation daily said Tuesday.
Prior to Tuesday's airstrikes, the army reported that battles have killed 150 militant fighters and 45 soldiers since Saturday, wile about 12-15 troops were missing.
It is the most intense episode of fighting on the Pakistan side of the border since Musharraf first sent troops to its lawless tribal regions in late 2001.
The army said in a statement it had rejected a cease-fire proposed by the militants and will "continue punitive action until complete peace is restored."
On Sunday, about 300 militants ambushed an army convoy traveling to the scene of a roadside bombing, killing 22 troops and wounding 11, an intelligence official said on condition of anonymity because he was not authorized to speak to journalists.
One resident of Isu Khel village said three soldiers came to his home asking for protection but he refused, fearing he might be targeted by militants. Others said they saw the bodies of soldiers in deserted areas and on the side of the road between the region's two main towns, Mir Ali and Miran Shah.
Many victims' throats were slit, they said.
A woman, who fled to Miran Shah, said she saw eight soldiers who had been shot dead. The bodies were covered in dust and one was mutilated, she said.
The villagers spoke to the AP on condition their names not be used because they feared reprisals.
On Monday, the army used artillery and fighter jets against militant targets in Isu Khel and nearby Melagan village, where announcements were being made from mosques urging authorities not to target civilian areas, residents said.
The intelligence official also said Monday that a dozen civilians had died when a shell struck their home in Mir Ali. It was unclear who fired the shell.
Arshad said some houses had been targeted that were being used for attacks on security forces and some residents may have died.

Need another map showing the ethnic breakup of the Pashtuns in NWFP.
This IMO will help us predict the fault lines of the forthcoming Pakhtun civil war between the Sarkari and the nationalist Pakhtuns. I wonder what the stance of the Afghani Pakhtuns is in this whole mess.
Ramana: With the foreigners - Uzbeks, Chechens, Kirghiz etc. who have intermarried with the local women, pride of place will be given to them only till the objectives are achieved, when the time comes to divide the spoils, they will meet Barelvi's fate.
IMO Indian interests are well served by adopting a two pronged strategy in Afghanistan/Pakistan vis-a-vis the Pakhtun/Taliban. While in Afghanistan they should be opposed, they should be supported to a limited extent in Pakistan as this civil war keeps Pakistan on the defensive on it's eastern borders. Of course, out RAW agent there is doing a herculean job and also should be supported in every possible way.
So in short oppose the Taliban in Afghanistan, but support both the Pakhtuns/Taliban and Mush in Pakistan as along as possible

The airstrikes removes any doubdt of who is in control of the area. When they have to use PAF against their "own" people, then they have effectively lost control of the area.
When 200 soldiers were captured without a single shot, there is something wrong. Either the soldiers were colabrating or they simply had orders to surender.

Anybody have any info on how many pushtus there are in the major nontribal urban centers of TSP?
I read somewhere that Karachi has as many as 25% pushtu popn. The TSPA itself is sopme 25%+ pushtu. No?
Can anyone confirm? Also, they make something like half of Quetta and all of Peshawar. But what about the critical hubs like LaWhore and Izloo?
This group in the plains is what will hopefully take the civil war into where it hurts TSP.
TIA.

Well, Beloveds, what "India" should do, is to spread cheer and light and information among our neighbors to the west.
Don't they need to see the photos from their Air Fauj's first-ever successful missions, where they didn't have to eject bombloads and lunches downwards because some unkind opposing Gnats, MiGs etc came on the scene?
Don't they need to read the reports on how their brave Armed Faujes, who have been ruling them invincibly for the past 60 years, are faring against the rag-tag women with frying pans in the dirt-poor wastes of Waziristan and Mir Ali?
Please do not disappoint them in their hour of need. We on the PEN Islamic State thread shall endeavor to do our best as always..
But this thread and the Baluchistan Genocide thread are absolutely vital.
GOOGLE does pick up the occasional comment from here, u know.... the more the merrier.
Send letters to the Editors of YAWN, DUNG etc. relating the facts, and pointing them to urls where they can find more. Post a few on our friendly folks' forums - like the one where TomCat fliers from Peshawar post. The ones where they were able to hit those children, seem especially pertinent. What aim!
The people in Pakjab and PakSindh need to see just how invincible the PakFauj is. Also, on why the brave Commando General is sending THEIR kids, to "fight" in Waziristan. And how he is sparing no effort to rescue them when captured.

vsudhir: You are mixing the Pathans for the Baluchis. Karachi is where the Baluchis are in good numbers. You can google for the exact percentages. Quetta is in Baluchistan. The FATA has 7 areas (Where Waziristan is)which straddle between NWFP and Balushistan. To the north of NWFP is Chitral, which acts as a buffer between the Tajik region in Afghanistan and the NA of India, illegally occupied by TSP.vsudhir wrote:Anybody have any info on how many pushtus there are in the major nontribal urban centers of TSP?

In short, not all non Punju/Sindhi Pakistani is a Pathan speaking Pushto.
They certainly will fight but in the end the folks getting slaughtered will be the Pashtuns. Do not get me wrong, the Pashtuns and tribals will give it good to the PA but without external support, these folks stand no chance, against the PA.JCage wrote:As long as tribalism and Islam remain, they will continue to murder and plunder. It is in our interest that they, as a group, are so shattered by conflict and mayhem that they are happy enough to survive and not wage war on others.
So, the result you predict are desirable, if it indeed can be achieved, without external support.
Supporting the Pashtuns in Afghanistan and NWFP is of "strategic" interest to India:
1. Nothing better than a PA focused on its western front
2. Denies PA its much desired strategic depth
3. Vital if India seeks a meaningful role in Afganistan, thereby providing direct benefits by denying the entry of foreign Jihadis in Kashmir (something that the PA was able to do through the 90's, while we supported Masood - for all his personal valor and leadership, was still the loosing side)
4. A friendly Pashtun population is vital for Indian interests, if we ever intend to act, to wrest NA back to our control - in my view the strategic end of Pakistan.
Ramanna wrote:
BTW I believe if they join Afghanistan then they will be the majority in greater Afghanistan and eventually can turn around once the ME becomes Nestorian.
The best way to do that is to be able to pay the TSP in its own coin by ensuring the PA is engaged in a long term struggle with the Pashtuns, supported by Afghanistan, who in turn are supported by India.Ramana, you are talking of centuries here. This long term view is good, but frankly, its best to speak softly and carry a big stick and show the neighbourhood mongrels who is boss.
.
But none of this will happen. It can but it will not. As, my leaders, in their eternal wisdom think, that doing nothing is also a type of action

Eid Mubarak, Bakistan!
Eid Mubarak, Bakistan!
Gaieties of Eid
After a month of fasting, prayers and abstinence comes the blissful day of Eidul Fitr for the faithful to rejoice and share their rejoicings. A day of gaiety, frolicking jovial children in their new dresses and their sisters with henna painted on their hands and with bangles on their arms make it a colourful occasion. Their mothers cook special foods to treat them to a feast. The festivity cuts across the spectrum; even the poor fathers somehow manage for the family to celebrate. Nonetheless, sadly enough, the faithful have, apart from their piety, not much to rejoice about this time round. The national landscape is cluttered with too many uncertainties, too many concerns and too many worries to make for a happy day. The reigning general is given to accusing the media of spreading despondency. But it is the street which is saying loudly that it is not at all happy. The media are just reflecting its screams over its being bitten unbearably by spiraling cost of living, joblessness and insecurity of life and property. Yet more sadly, from the north are coming out doleful cries from our tribal compatriots, pitched in a predicament they had not asked for and had not deserved at all. In a military operation, they have lost many a loved one; their children have been orphaned and women widowed; their homes and villages have been ruined; they have fled in thousands for their lives, becoming homeless and refugees in their own homeland. Their grief is colossal; their sorrow is tragic; their plight is unenviable. Out there, there indeed is too much of gloom, percolating in every nook and corner of this blessed land. We do not want to add to it by speaking out the saddening realities swarming the ground. Marring the gaiety of the august day is far from our thought; we abhor it as a profanity. Enlivening the festivity of the day is very much our craving {exactly the same as ours at PeeAref}, even though we find it an uphill task in the given depressing conditions holding the nation in their vicious clutches. We humbly pray that each one of our compatriot would make it his day. And we do hope that our affluent homes would do all for their poor neighbours to partake in the happiness of the occasion. For once, let this cliché become a reality on this land. And to all our patrons, we say, Eid Mubarak.

Operation in Waziristan
Sajjad [email protected]
Living in Mandi Bahauddin you are very far far away from Waziristan. How could you feel their pain and the sins which they were involved in against Pakistan? Did you ever visit North Waziristan? Did you live there because Mandi is in the Punjab? How, tell me, you are suddenly concerned for the Pakhtun belt? You have always been belittling them and putting the down since 1947. I refrain from accusing the Punjabis because there are great men there, who have vision and I know many as well. I understand that there is chaos there, but tell all, was not the Punjab a great contributor to the injustice among all. How can one forget Balochistan and Sindh? That will be an injustice and sin, Muslims will feel a pain to live with, but not for long. All four provinces must amend themselves and use Qurans justice as the criteria, its one country Pakistan. When the Punjab discriminates because it is the main bread basket or industrialized, such a behavior means that it will result in many off shoots of Pakistan. This is exactly what Europe and India is looking forward to. Do not contribute to such animosity against the aims of the great Quaid, Allama Iqbal and their sacrificers for the cause of Pakistan. Millions have been killed for freedom. Not exclusively for the Punjab. Sindh was a great Host to the immigrants, include Baloch, Punjabi and also NWFP. Punjab, it is time that it must stop erecting its Dildo because others may display a far bigger one. That will be big surprise for the pride ridden.
