Islamabad: Alas! The days of cheap samosas in Pakistan is over. Ending a legal wrangle over the price of the humble samosa, the Supreme Court has set aside a notification of the Punjab government whereby the price of one 'samosa' was fixed at Rs 6.
The samosa, till early this week, was caught up in a legal tussle between the provincial government and Punjab Bakers and Sweets Federation.
In 2009, the City District Government Lahore had fixed price of one samosa at Rs 6 and magistrates imposed fine on shopkeepers for selling the same at a higher price.

No shit Sherlock! Dem Muslims don't sleep on Ramzan do they?
Nosey Haider had written in his book about the shooting down of an Indian Canberra in 1959 (By US gifted sabres)
"The Indian leadership thought that on this sacred day at the end of the holy month of Ramadan the PAF would either be rejoicing, sleeping or in the mosque”.

Pakistani governments had opted to first levy heavy taxes on Indian films to curb imports and then banned them after the 1965 war. But it is still hard to erect barriers to popular culture, especially where the historical and linguistic bonds unite people despite the state ideology or political dispensation. When Doordarshan India started its telecast to Lahore, it attracted not just the locals but also many others who could manage to travel to Lahore. On the other hand, Peshawar’s lifeline to the Indian cinema turned out to be the metropolitan Kabul of the 1960s and 1970s. Theaters like the Temurshahi, Kabul Nandareh, Zainab Nandareh and Behzad screened new Bombay movies in Kabul. And as one Peshawari elder put it, they “descended upon Kabul to watch Aradhana in hordes”.

Israel's Debkafile Web site, considered close to Israeli intelligence and which sometimes posts reports considered to be disinformation, claimed in December 2010 that Pakistan has set aside two nuclear weapons for Saudi Arabia.
These, it said, are believed to be stored at Pakistan's nuclear air base at Kamra in the north.
At least two giant Saudi transport planes sporting civilian colors and no insignia are parked permanently at Kamra with aircrews on standby," Debka reported.
"They will fly the nuclear weapons home upon receipt of a double-coded signal from King Abdallah and the director of General Intelligence," who now happens to be Prince Bandar, reported to be close to the monarch.
The Saudis have of late portrayed their high-tension rivalry with the Iranians as a new, menacing chapter in the 1,300-year-old struggle between Sunni and Shiite Islam.
"The stakes are enormous," says Bruce Reidel, a former counter-terrorism specialist with the CIA wrote in the German newsmagazine Der Spiegel.
"Pakistan has the fastest growing nuclear arsenal in the world. It will soon surpass the United Kingdom as the fifth-largest nuclear arsenal.
"It's the sixth-largest country in the world in terms of population. It will soon surpass Indonesia as the country with the largest Muslim population."
A leading Saudi royal, Prince Turki al-Faisal, who headed the GIP in 1977-2001, warned U.S. and British military chiefs meeting outside London June 8, 2011, that Tehran's acquisition of nuclear arms "would compel Saudi Arabia ... to pursue policies which could lead to untold and possibly dramatic consequences."

First of all the original Sunni-Shia fight was between Arabs only. There was no Persian dog in the fight.
Its much later with rise of Wahabi Sunnism and finding of big Oil in KSA that makes this an Arab-Persian fight being masked as Sunni-Shia fight.

Why do you need 'Giant' transport planes for nukes? How will the Saudis use them? Bombers? Missiles (do they have them)? Then may be they are taking Paki missiles with nukes already on them?

Easy fact check is to google the location and see what is parked there?
Also wasnt Kamra the site of Pakiban attention already?

The merry-go-round of Pakistan PMship.
NightWatch For the night of 25 July 2012 wrote:
Pakistan: The Ashraf government informed the Supreme Court of Pakistan that it would not re-open the corruption case against President Zardari, despite the Court's clear order last month. The Swiss have indicated they have no intention or re-opening the graft case against Zardari, which is now over a decade old.
Comment: The key issue is whether the Pakistan government will follow orders from the judiciary. The Gilani government fell because it refused, and the Ashraf government has put itself in the same quandary. Thus far, Pakistan does not appear to be a country that follows its own laws at the highest levels of government.
Ashraf, like Gilani, swore to enforce and uphold the laws. Ashraf is following Gilani in deliberately refusing to uphold the laws that their parties enacted in the Pakistani National Assembly. Ashraf is liable to be held in contempt of the Supreme Court and required to resign.

This is called Dhoti-Shivering at its most disgusting nature. Just shame on us really
The part where The President talks about terrorism, bravery of the armed forces and the suffering of people explains that the people in power (even as influential folks as Pranab da) share the very same feelings that most of us on BRF do. You may not agree with it but I recommend you do listen to it. Every word from Pranab Da's mouth reflects his experiences of a career spanning four decades.
Just want to point out that Rashtrapati's speeches are hardly their own words and they don't make policy. They are crafted by senior babus and are meant to send a message politically suited to the moment. Pranab may have had some input but those words have little to do with how he thinks.

UPA has apparently decided conflict with Pakistan hurts India more than it hurts Pakistan. Tharoor recently said this explicitly while adding that he is no Wagah Kandle Kisser.
Maybe the thinking is that Pak will turn in on itself and destroy itself faster if it doesn't have India to hate.

Considered by many to be an escalatory tool of statecraft, air power in this case turned out to be a de-escalatory factor because it conveyed to the adversary that India meant “business.”
Can this be applicable to India's political responses to Pakistan's adventurism?

^ Sanjay ji,
Both the operations mentioned in the opinion piece were against TSP. What distinguishes them from what you suggest is that in both the cases, TSPA soldiers had to be evicted from Indian territory. In a nutshell, Indian air power was used inside Indian territory, though very close to the LoC.
The day IAF will be able to confidently tell the political brass that they can strike within TSP while successfully interdicting most, if not all, retaliatory strikes, we may see air power being used in response to mass fatality terrorist attack.

India has not taken 'maximalist' positions on Pakistani terror, there is no discussion at the UN security council, not even a general assembly task force. There is no excoriating response to Pakistanis attempt to deflect the responsibility of dropping per capita water availability onto India. When was the last time the Minister in charge of water resources referred to Pakis breeding like rats, India should be offering free condoms, and asking them to learn from former East Pakistan.
Instead we get home lilies and dosas from a sarkari babu struggling with English as a fourth language.
Re: Terrorist Islamic Republic of Pakistan (TSP) : 24 July 2
I am not military expert, but what this tells me regarding India's military capabilities is this: India sure has the firepower and wherewithal to deflect any TSP offensive hanky panky short of launching nukes. India's offensive capability to punish TSP, very limited, and hence all the contortions we are having in dealing with TSP. TSP's gameplan as we all know is to force an Indian response so then they can cite existential threat and launch nukes. In this scenario, India is in a no win situation, because TSP can continue to use pigLeTs under nuke cover, not to mention that their only mission in life is destruction of India no matter the damage to them.
Add to this, the US factor of is India TSP equal equal, I really pity our decision makers, both militray and civilian; they just can't undertake the kind of response we on BR would like them to take.
Having said all that, I still feel on the diplomatic/economic front, India can be a bit more aggressive instead of Aman ki Tamsaha. This is what I was discussing with a retd Indian army colonel last night here in Bangalore, but he seemed to be in favor of this Aman Ki Tamsaha saying that India's right strategy is to lure away ordinary TSP Abduls from terror.
Any BRites in Bangalore? I would love to meet up next several weeks during my stay here. Please e-mail me at laksast_ at hotmail dot com.

How neatly the blame is put on India when Pakistan has been granting MFN status to India "in principle" every month or so.

The Foreign Office had asked the ministry to “go slow” after no significant progress was achieved on other contentious matters, despite repeated rounds of talks.
If it is the TSP Foreign office that has stopped MFN, then we can be sure that the order from the TSPA. We must recall Kayani's words when the Commerce Ministers of the two countries met last year in Islamabad. In Kakul, speaking on the same day to graduating cadets, Kayani said that Pakistan cannot forsake its H&D at the altar of trade & commerce. It was TSPA that elongated the granting of MFN by introducing such things as whittling down positive list, introducing negative list, whittling down negative list etc. They have instigated the Diffa-e-Pakistan Council to oppose the MFN. This MFN will be scuttled one way or another.
Wasn't trade being spoken of as a CBM ? How can that be connected with resolving disputes ? Linking trade to dispute-resolution has been the stand of Pakistan until c. 2004. Trade was de-linked from other issues and TSP is now going back to square one. This means that it is hardening its stance. Now that the US has started sending the baksheesh once again and now that the IMF is planning to give more loans, TSP may think that it does not need Indian trade to tide over a difficult situation.
Re: Terrorist Islamic Republic of Pakistan (TSP) : 24 July 2
Afghan FM conveys concerns about shelling...strange he talks to Miss Gucci bag and not the terrorist scum Kayani..in any case, TSP must be fuming that a country that was basically a extension counter of ISI and a storage yard for terrorist sewer pigs is now sending FMs and talking at them..

Small correction it should be Conflict with Pakistan hurts UPA's Political Interests more than it hurts Pakistan.
Party and self above country.
But then again mere survival of Pakistan in a conflict/ or non conflict is spun as a Vicotory for Pakistan, like operation Parakram, Pakistan did not win any battle but was spun as great Paki victory by Paki media and WKK outlets

Dubbing Pakistan as a "global leader" in visa and passport forgery, Britain's envoy here has said that visa fraud is a deep-rooted industry in this country.
About 4,000 people were caught last year while trying to acquire British passports using fake documents, the UK's high commissioner to Pakistan, Adam Thomson, said.
Pakistan was a "global leader" vis-a-vis fake passports and visas, he told reporters at the National Press Club on Thursday.
Thomson said it was unfortunate that Pakistan had been rated a world leader in visa fraud.
"Unfortunately, you people are world leaders in visa scam. Forgery is a strong industry here," he was quoted as saying in media reports.

Mum Britain wraps her arms around its spoiled child TSP to save it from Drone strikes.
TSP is a rabid dog and beating, kicking it is not going to help in the long run though it might be instantly gratifying.
We must put the squeeze on "friends of Pakistan" like US, UK, China and Saudi Arabia. India needs to calibrate its response to countries who sell F-16s with BVR missiles to fight the Taliban Air Force and commies who have proliferated nukes.
