The 2012 Olympics Thread
Re: The 2012 Olympics Thread
saina vs wang at 6pm IST today. mashallah we shall prevail.
Re: The 2012 Olympics Thread
Times change. I am sure we are in the cusp of something big in the next decade. So many near misses and good performance outside olympics.
Nevertheless we don't have to emulate the Chinese large ball/small ball committees and child beating methods to show we are good in sports too.

Re: The 2012 Olympics Thread
Let us not beat ourselves up. I think we are on the right path. The overall performance of us in this Olympics is far superior to the Beijing games.

Re: The 2012 Olympics Thread
yohan blake wins heat in 10:00 - he is short but has a very fast and smooth start .... superb technique after he gets upright also.
might take gold this time unless bolt finds his mojo.
I saw the bout, and he did spit it out, ostensibly to gain some time when the onslaught from the American guy got a bit too much. He was too defensive, but more importantly, his defensive technique wasn't up to the mark.
My problem with this appeal is not whether he had a chance to win further or not, but the different standards applied.
Exactly my problem too...Vikas may have been hopeless and might have been slaughtered the next round but that doesnt take away the blatant double standard applied to this and the Sumit sangwan appeal case

He clearly lacked fitness and you know when the boxer is dancing with his hands down with no guard that he is tired... His tactics were wrong too and he was just letting him hit. He was studying for exams as well apparently. By the third round he was just too tired and exhausted - barely had energy to walk!
I think if he trains harder he will do a lot better and good potential for future
I'm looking forward to Devendro Laishram's fight in 45 minutes. He is a good fighter.
Re: The 2012 Olympics Thread
sania leading 2-0.
my hands are feeling like lead from tension.

Re: The 2012 Olympics Thread
Damn, Saina's making similar judgement errors as yesterday. Not looking good.

Re: The 2012 Olympics Thread
trailing 6-8 now.
Re: The 2012 Olympics Thread
^^ 11-6 now..
The Chinese looks to be pretty dominant here...looks tough for Saina

Re: The 2012 Olympics Thread
if she loses this one it's all over. she won't be able to come back in the 2nd one.
Re: The 2012 Olympics Thread
^^ Sad but looks like a rout again going by the Chinese performance
Re: The 2012 Olympics Thread
Game point for the Chinese girl.
Re: The 2012 Olympics Thread
And some kind of injury for Wang
Re: The 2012 Olympics Thread
Wang seems to be in terrible pain though.
Re: The 2012 Olympics Thread
^^ Chinese is down with some injury....doesnt look good for her
Re: The 2012 Olympics Thread
Achilles injury it seems. Or is it her knee?
She's up now, so might be able to play.

Re: The 2012 Olympics Thread

^^ Damn...she is back and straight away takes the set
Re: The 2012 Olympics Thread
And Wang takes the first set.
Re: The 2012 Olympics Thread
Saina wins!
Re: The 2012 Olympics Thread
Bronze for India due to forfeit
Re: The 2012 Olympics Thread
Wang seem to be in pain between sets. Saina has won bronze. It isn't Saina's fault if the opponent is not fit enough.

Saina wins bronze.
Re: The 2012 Olympics Thread
I would have hoped for a clearcut victory but I will take it. bad for the chinese girl though.
this raises questions about the badminton schedule, why did it have to be back to back ? 3 matches in 3 days ?

Re: The 2012 Olympics Thread
I hope she wins the Gold next time. She needs to tune her tactics and train harder to defeat the Chinese.
Re: The 2012 Olympics Thread
The fitter wins !.. Next year we have PV Sindhu. I feel she win the GOLD... Mark my words
Re: The 2012 Olympics Thread
Now let's wait for desis who deride our own win, saying that we won only because of a forfeit.
Nevertheless, congratulations Sania! Well deserved bronze medal, and hopefully gold next time!

Re: The 2012 Olympics Thread
Laishram is up next - he is a good fighter
Re: The 2012 Olympics Thread
i think with the chinese it is mental for her. she needs to get over the phobia.
Re: The 2012 Olympics Thread
the 1st set 18-21 was close enough that no H&D self goals are needed. its not as if 2-21
Re: The 2012 Olympics Thread
That's about it. If the Chinese had trained harder or didn't give everything in the first set, she could have won. Tough.kshatriya wrote:The fitter wins !..

gold medal match about to start. I will go with the wildcard Li. Yihan seems to be wearing a black compression belt around the waist..perhaps some light lower back or hip muscle issue.
Re: The 2012 Olympics Thread
^^ Damn, Serena Willimas seems to be built like a beast.
her thighs look bigger than my body width!!

Re: The 2012 Olympics Thread
sharapova isnt a petite girl but I agree, serena is like a merkava tank...a moving mountain of muscle.
Re: The 2012 Olympics Thread
Laishram is aggressive!! Huge punches!
