All piss and ploselous onree. Thambis relaxing after putting up a SDRE bailey bridge, painted shainted and green carpet laid out to Phirst Whorld paalish /maalish.

Photo courtesy NYTimes. Thambis relaxing. Ah.. gratifying that the MEG (they are the folks on Ulsoor lake, a 230+ year old regiment) was called on to build the bailey bridge when the civilians screwed up.

For a little improvement in the quality of life you are willing to insult your nation, pathetic mentality to say the atleast which most people thankfully dont share. I'm willing to share the burden of building a better india but not by abusing it.

Enough with your crappy whining and roona dhona about how "I hope the games fail". Yeah we had problems, some which need serious introspection but as of now, everything had come together with a week to go and let the games begin.

Watch out for the opening ceremony, it'' be awesome.

The opening ceremony is on on DD Sports/DD National and online. Excellent start so far. Monks, snake charmer been, drums, and the much maligned baloon is looking beautiful, perched 25 m in the air and reflecting all thats happening on the ground.

Go India!

^^^The opening ceremony of the CWG is irrelevant and not germane to the discussion. What matters is the shoddy construction of the venues which will not last the long term for athletic infrastructure. There are CAG an other reports that go back over a year to state this.

The fact of the matter is, there was 7 years to prepare and at least 21 government agencies involved and they could not get their act together after a very high expenditure. This is a failure of both the Delhi and central government. The infrastructure of the NCR should have been first priority when the games were awarded.

Is there a live feed to the opening ceremonies and other proceedings? TIA.

BTW, am sick of this bloody whining with one finger up the @ss. Everyone knows there is corruption and incompetence but if you can't offer intelligent suggestions on what to do about it, it's best to just STFU.

Theres a couple of sites which are showing the games, or so the forumers on SSC India say. They require registering or quick install of the player.

http://www.tvunetworks.com/downloads/player.html
Then select channel 90441 (DD Sports)

One third of the world's population is part of The Commonwealth Nations. China is not a part of it.Although you do get a slight feel of a global event, Russia,China,America,France,Germany,Korea,Japan,Ireland and a lot more are not part of it.India is a key member as it provides the maximum headcount to this organisation.I wonder if the queen is present there today,to inaugurate it?

sorry, I wasn't adding to the discussion. I was merely sharing my delight with the rest of the forumers that its been a very good opening ceremony so far. Of course I am all for a military tribunal once the games are over! Unfortunately, if the games do go well, then it won't take long for the media to move on, and any activism on the ground will eventually fizzle out.

BTW, people are booing Kalmadi! He's delivering the opening statement.

Seeing the number of contingents in the CWG only amazes me as to how a small island of 500 mile tip-tip length ruled over ALL these guys at once!!!!

Unbelievable that DD is behaving worse than a private broadcaster by having 5-10 minute long breaks. Makes me want to pull my hair out waiting for the damn break to end.. :x :x

Anyways, given that DD pioneered the 4 ball over in cricket broadcasting ( 1st and 6th are cut off by ads), it's not a surprise..

I have a strange feeling that the cheering and the booing are being cleverly orchestrated by motivated parties. Maybe even paid for by the psecs, WKKs or even the paki embassy to show people to people contacts and general aam jantha goodwill for the pakis

Yes. Kalmadi was booed and Dikshit was cheered. Why?IMHO, Dikshit is equally culpable

Pratibha patil must be little jealous of Kalamji.

Boos, jeers for Kalmadi, cheers for Kalam at CWG inaugural
As organising committee chairman Suresh Kalmadi took the podium at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium, a vuvuzela-like blast of boos and jeers greeted him from the crowd of nearly 70,000 spectators. This was heard even earlier when his name was called out at the inaugural of the 19th CWG in New Delhi.

This was in sharp contrast to the warm response to former president APJ Kalam present on the occasion. In a measure of how he is still very much the people's president, the very mention of the Kalam's name sent cheers pulsing around the stadium.

Disregarding the hostile reception, Kalmadi read out from a prepared text, "India is ready," he said, raising his forefinger. He invoked President Obama's "yes we can" campaign slogans to state that there had been delays but the CWG had been able to rise above the challenge despite 'adverse publicity about health and security issues'.

Kalmadi thanked Sonia Gandhi, Manmohan Singh and former PM AB Vajpayee during whose tenure India bagged the hosting of the games.

well almost any ceremony does better with tighter scripting and taut storyline....but its ok....we neednt get uptight over not being as foxconn precision milled as the beijing 2008 with lip syncing little girl singer and CG enhanced fireworks for TV.

Why?

Kalmadi just said that the CWG would contribute significantly to the economy of the country. Rehman was just taking his cut.

I am sure kalmadi meant the economy of himself and his cronies but was too shy to say so in public!!

Chetak I cannot disagree with you. Individuals like Kalamadi can get away with all this. While appreciating Congress in many ways it is some Congress and individuals related to Congress who has stolen the money of Indian government. Congress governments either ignore or survive such extraordinary turbulance by being silence. After CWG there should be a proper investigation if there are clear evidences emerging as money taken by some.

I quite liked the ceremony, including especially the dance routines. the train one should've been shortened and rahman was a flop but other than that I quite liked it.

Lets see the Brits top that at Olympics.

Seriously though, despite all the criticism we heap at the Brits, they are far far better than the true white Pakis, the Aussies. Teh Aussies are the yellow livered lot of the Western world. The first to complain at the slightest inconvenience, the first to pull out of any games at the slightest security issue and the first to pontificate. And yet, for all this they manage to maintain the aura of "being tough"

Whatever faults the Brits may have, one MUST hand it to them for coming back to finish their cricket tour after the Mumbai attacks. Can you imagine if it were the Aussies? They would never have come back...

I to agree to this / My grouse is only with ARH, much hyped, failed to deliver and ended with JAI JO.

And yes Chetak , OC did estimate the benefits
NEW DELHI: The 12-day Commonwealth Games opening on Sunday would spur India's economic growth by around $4,940 million in the next four years and create close to 24.7 lakh jobs, says the Games Organising Committee.

"It is estimated that the Commonwealth Games 2010 would result in an overall economic impact of approximately $4,940 million on India over the period of 2008-12," said a Committee document.
But for his mismanagement it could have been 10 times bigger, World was waiting for picture perfect work ethics.Instead he and kongis have secured their future.
