Trump announces an ‘External Revenue Service’

^^The proposed ERS appears to be essentially hiving off some of the money-collecting functions of the existing CBP (Customs & Border Protection) into a different agency. Then the CBP would be focused only on border protection/immigration functions.

I suppose there could be some efficiency gains here, but not sure if they will be substantial. Until we get more information, it seems mostly like "busy work" to distract his support base.

For reference:

Existing CBP collections (tariffs/duties etc): < $100 B/yr
Existing IRS collections: $4.7 T/yr
US exports: $3 T/yr
US imports: $3.8 T/yr

Since Trump is hoping to hugely increase the collections from tariffs, he is probably wanting to create a separate agency for that. But the trade numbers and likely reciprocal tariffs don't make much of a case for substantial "external revenue" collections.

It is unclear how this affects the existing IRS. If the proposed ERS will also be responsible for taxing foreign income of corporates/individuals, and IRS only the US income, it would probably be chaos and create more bureaucracy. If Trump is planning to stop income taxation (i.e. close IRS altogether) and rely on tariff collections, that would appear to be a financial disaster.

A one-minute google search gives the true figure: about 170 million TikTok users in the US. About 100 million are active users as of Dec 2024.

They do have about 1.5 billion users worldwide. I don't know what this "700 million" is about. Maybe it means that 700 million users/content creators around the world are nervous (i.e. losing their US contacts/viewers) and are switching.

Secondly look at his tweeting frequency and content before the H1 issue and after, He's essentially taken a 2-3 week noticable hiatus when every other Trump guy was on a victory lap.

Ohio gubernatorial election isn't till Nov 26 and unlike the presidency the campaign doesn't really pick up heat till much later this year. If they wanted to im pretty sure they could have had him continue w Elon and rack up some policy wins/ efficiency cuts etc
