Spectacular opening!

By seating the athletes so close to the arena, they were exposed to the full intensity of the celebrations. I noticed a lot of them dancing like crazies!

I think everyone had a great time at the end!

The opening and closing ceremonies are the televised face of the games. Going off well without any SNAFU is a big accomplishment. Watching the live feed there appeared to be a lot of activity happening in the background while MMS, Charles and Patil were speaking. It may mean nothing, but there is a lot of apprehension. That said, the event will only be deemed successful if the ceremonies and individual sporting events happen without delay or fault. Athletes competing should have their scores and times validated by international bodies. If the venues don't work, then you can award medals, but they won't be recognized by the particular international sport association such as cycling, swimming and so on.

My relatives in Delhi are not attending any of the CWG activities to avoid the traffic and chaos that the games have brought to the NCR.

There are lot of complaints from the people who have attended the ceremony about the arrangements made for the travel and food.

WOW! My heart is swollen and eyes filled with tears as I watched the video and photos of our people showcasing to the western world (and perhaps to some of our own folks) that we too could dance your steps, sing your tunes and do that in a way that puts you to shame. We have so much to show, the arts, the colors, the diversity, the variety...let's show what a civilization is made of. I am sure, after seeing all this, there won't be any salubrious thoughts in the minds of western folks. This is their shakinaw moment.

Now, let's kick some ass in the sporting field that befits our beloved nation.

Indians are coming! Indians are coming!

The ability of the Indians to put up a show was never in doubt, except here on BRF. Infrastructure just in time, is not the way to go. But then we have so much to do outside of Delhi, so I would definitely overlook this fault for now.

Very nice pictures of the Opening Ceremony, I did not see the video but do plan to.

Question to the knowledgeables: The opening ceremony is a complex symphony with many moving parts (groups of dancers, athlete processions etc) all requiring a lot of precision planning involving performers, athletes, stage hands, lights etc. Doubtless there would have been rehearsals.

Does anyone know where the rehearsals were done? Did they take place at the main stadium which would have been the logical place but difficult to carry off (with all the construction going on around it). Were any rehearsals spotted in the stadium (or elsewhere)? I did not see any media reporting of the rehearsals.

“From security to cleanliness to the venues and the food, this has been very well arranged,” he said.

“It was in bad shape last week but they’ve made it on time and who are we to question that? Or the way they do things here? Our venue here is the best for our sport I’ve seen in the world.”
help! an intelligent gora!! all is lost, we are getting olympics :((

(Manu-saar, take a bow, IIRC you are the first in BRF to state this obvious pattern inside the chaotic, fractal landscape called India)
Valare upakaram etc. Anyone who has grown up in India should not be surprised at the turnout of events.

Does hosting of the Olympic Games not require a vote of some kind?

Yes bigtime. After the flop, I do not think India is getting the olympics. IOC does not like last minute fixes. Besides India has this huge security issue to deal with.

Say no to olympics.

Olympics is possible if India is ready to fix New Delhi and Delhi and also India's security to be fixed in Israel's style.
I think it is also time to fix things up with Muslim community in India. If the mosques and their community do not want any troubles with security issues they should let the police or intelligence know and provide early warnings about intruders or relatives with amunitions.

In spite of the criticism the start of CWG looks colourful.

Watched almost half of the CWG opening ceremony. Indeed very spectacular and grand ceremony. For first Indian lady there were special arrangements due to her height. Finding microphone quite high someone had to put kind of small stage for her to be able to reach the microphone.

Obviously, athletes who have snubbed India citing hygiene and security reasons have missed opportunity of their lifetime.

Now that the games have begun spectacularly, let us support our organizers whole heartedly and leave the analysis of pre-game corruption, politics etc. for later. Here is hoping this event goes to completion with safety and grandeur. Let peace win, let the games begin. Jai Hind.

Here is the video of the military aspect of the ceremony
http://vodpod.com/watch/4584391-commonw ... g-hoisting
Soldier marching to the tune "DEH SHIVA VAR MOHE"
Is there "Bharat Mata ki Jai" slogan from the crowds? I surely can hear Jai.

The soldiers always make us proud. The politicians always make us feel defeated.
One is about pride+love and respect for nations ideas+righteousness+duty+courage+sacrifice the other is about greed/corruption/disrespect to nation and nations ideas/adharma/add all bad/combination of all these

Everyone political party is waiting for the games to be over. All the corruption issues etc will surely be taken up after the games are over. It's going to be another games to be seen.

I wished dozen color lit Su30 MKIs flew roaring just 100 ft over the JN stadium would have further added the punch.
