More details on the trains and images here.This train is part of the 81 train-set (486 coach) contract that the Delhi Metro Rail Corp had signed with Hyundai Rotem in 2013 to run exclusively on its new Pink and Magenta lines.
According to the agreement between Hyundai Rotem & BEML, the initial 20 train-sets (120 coaches) will be manufactured & delivered from Changwon, South Korea while the remaining 61 train-sets (366 coaches) will be manufactured at BEML’s plant with Hyundai Rotem’s assistance in Bangalore.

2. RITES Submits Detailed Project Report for Agra Metro to Agra Development AuthorityCould the second phase of Chennai Metro Rail be extended to 123km? Sources in Chennai Metro Rail told City Express that there were suggestions to extend the three corridors under the Second Phase identified by Chennai Metro Rail by 35km. The initial plan was to cover 88 km on the three corridors. This came after officials discussed extending the stretch by 12km linking Madhavaram with the Old Mahabalipuram Road stretch.
The pre-construction activities for the development of Agra’s metro are progressing ON schedule!
Earlier this week, the engineering consultancy company Rail India Technical and Economic Service (RITES) submitted Agra Metro’s Detailed Project Report (DPR) to the Agra Development Authority (ADA). This fits right into the pre-construction time-frame that I had written about when the feasibility report was being prepared. The ADA will now examine the DPR and recommend suggestions for changes to RITES.
With the DPR now in the ADA’s hands, the next step would be for the ADA to forward the DPR to the state government for its approval. Following that, a nodal agency A.K.A. Special Purpose Vehicle (SPV) along the lines of the DMRC, BMRCL etc will be formed for executing the project.
Mumbai: Days after it announced a hike of Rs 5 in metro fares from Tuesday, Mumbai Metro One which is operating the 11.4 km Versova-Andheri-Ghatkopar corridor has deferred the revision till December 17. MMOPL, in a statement, said the revision has been deferred as the Bombay High Court, which is hearing the petition against the proposed fare hikes by the company has scheduled the hearing for December 17.
"Since the high court has scheduled the hearing on priority basis on December 17, we have differed the fare revision till then," MMOPL spokesperson said. As per the proposed revision, instead of the current four slabs of Rs 10, 20, 30 and 40, the company has introduced five slabs and the fares will be hiked to Rs 10, 20, 25, 35 and 45. The fare slabs per trip for the return journey token category will be revamped from Rs 10, 15, 25 and 30 to Rs 10, 20, 22.50, 30 and 35. The company had cited financial losses incurred by it the reason for this fare revision.

Ahmedabad Metro Completes Casting First Pier Cap at Nirant Cross RoadsContinuing with the recent spate of name changes on the Delhi Metro network, the Shivaji Stadium station in the Connaught Place area of Delhi has now been renamed to ONGC Shivaji Stadium after the Oil and Natural Gas Corporation Limited put in the highest bid for the station’s semi naming rights earlier this year.
L&T may soon start work to construct underground Chennai Metro Rail stations in the stretch between AG-DMS and Saidapet stations as the tenders have been finalised. But it may take more time to begin work along Anna Salai from Government Estate to AG-DMS as Chennai Metro Rail has decided to recall the tenders for this stretch.
According to sources, in bidding for both stretches from AG-DMS to Saidapet and Government Estate to AG-DMS respectively, L&T and Afcons Infrastructure Limited were the only bidders. Chennai Metro Rail Limited (CMRL) has decided to give the work from AG-DMS to Saidapet to L&T but plans to call for tenders for the other stretch; it is not clear why the decision has been made for calling tenders again.
And not so good news at construction sites:Chennai Metro Rail came to the rescue of several thousand people when the city was brought to its knees on the evening of Monday, which witnessed heavy rain in a short span of time. On an average, 10,000-12,000 people travel by the Chennai Metro Rail on a weekday; but on Monday at least 10,000 people took the train in just about four hours.
According to officials of CMRL, there was a 100 per cent increase in the number of people who travelled by Metro Rail on Monday alone. “From 7 p.m. onwards, the trains were running full. Hence, we decided to extend the services till about 11.30 p.m. There was an exceptional response from people on that day,” an official said. While the traffic recorded on Monday was the highest in the last three months, it has been quite high during the last two weeks when the rains wreaked havoc. “On many days, we noticed several people wanted to use Metro Rail. So, we extended the services as much as possible,” an official said.
When the rain held the city to ransom for a fortnight, Chennai Metro Rail work suffered too. Parts of the underground stretch from Thirumangalam to Egmore Metro Rail station and from Chennai Central to Saidapet Metro were waterlogged, said workers. While in some areas, tunnels were inundated, in a few others, the stations were.
“It takes a little time to pump out water when it has been pouring incessantly and the entire city is flooded,” one of the workers said. Officials of Chennai Metro Rail Limited (CMRL) said they had adopted dewatering mechanisms in all stations to pump out water. “We used pumps, ranging from 5 HP to even 50 HP, to drain water from both tunnels and stations. At Chennai Central station, for instance, there was a need to drain out a lot of water. Also, we are helping clear water in various areas across the city that are affected by waterlogging, by deploying the pumps,” an official said.

More details here.Line 3: The 41 km Madhavaram to Siruseri line is proposed to be extended by 9 km from Madhavaram to the residential area of Red Hills which will also help serve the Samuel Nagar, Chettimedu, Alinjivakkam & Puzhal lake areas. Total = 50 km
Line 4: The 14 km Koyambedu to Light House line is proposed to be extended by 11 km from Koyambedu to Poonamalee which will also help to serve the Maduravoyal, Munikrishna Nagar, Madhiravedu & Vanagaram residential areas. Total = 25 km
Line 5: The 33 km Madhavaram to Perumbakkam line is proposed to be extended by 14.7 km from Madhavaram to Wimco Nagar to meet the Blue line which will soon be extended by 9 km from Washermenpet. This extension will help serve the Manali, Harikrishnapuram and Masilamani Nagar areas. Total = 47.7 km
OMR will most likely be overhead, since there is enough space available like the IRR. If this phase 2 is implemented, then the city's transportation will be all set for the next 50 years, and we can expect a significant increase in public transport usage from the current 40-50%.Prasad wrote:Any idea if the OMR line is being thought of as an underground or overhead line? Hyderabad: The proposed Metro Rail route in old city is not commercially viable as it is from the side of the city and not within the heart as was planned. It will be 3.2 km more than the original route.
With rising costs becoming a bone of contention for the government, the elections are also a concern for the TRS as the understanding that existed between the two parties earlier is not so at present, stated senior officers. Each of them is going to draw maximum benefit from the existing project and based on that empathy will be generated. The MIM does not want the 1,000 properties and 35 religious structures to be affected which has become a bone of contention between the two.
