Internal Security Watch
Re: Internal Security Watch
Kerala is a lost cause. The christian+muslim populations equal the hindus by 50-50. A "right" govt is never going to form there. In the end, the religious nuts from the minorities, under the guise of "secular congress" are going to lead the state.
My only problem is this. A polytheist and a monotheist try to make it work. But what happens when two different monotheist interact? How will that turn out?

How is it that the RoP & RoL don't have a go at each other in Kerala? It isn't as if there is a dearth of grievances.

Re: Internal Security Watch
The main reason could be that all these religions are pretty much established in the state for centuries now. There is certainly no "turf war" involved. Every body have learnt to accept that there would be different religions, different way of worship and all of them just get on with their lives. And all the three religions have their own set of sub-groups who have a busy schedule of fighting with each other. So things were kind of normalised.derkonig wrote:How is it that the RoP & RoL don't have a go at each other in Kerala? It isn't as if there is a dearth of grievances.
But of late it is pretty much known that thanks to the huge influx of money coming in from the "Gelf" the equilibrium is changing. Some people (mainly RoP) have started getting uppitty feelings that money can buy any thing, and it is now time to prove their identity all across the state. Even this "hand chopping" incident is considered to by the police to be a "show of strength".
PS: In the days of the old the various kings of Kerala had introduced some measures which brought in a lot of communal harmony. Among the famous boat-races in Kerala is the Champakulam Vallam kali generally falling in the month of June. Click on the link to read the history behind it, and how an event was also ensured communal harmony. There are other case-studies as well. In one case the local Hindu Godess and Virgin Mary were to be considered as sisters.

Well, these religions may be well entrenched, but they are predatory to the bone, doesn't Unkil have EJs on its own soil? Heck the RC church in US laments about the EJs poaching on their flocks. Which is why it is all the more curious how is this harmony being maintained. Could it be that they are just biding their time until Hindus are no longer numerically significant & then pull a Kashmir valley?

Arrested ISI agent had entered Tripura
New team to investigate Hassan Khan
CISF foils ‘hijack’, 27 people with 'fake' Dubai visas detainedAn ISI agent, who was arrested along with six Indian collaborators, has confessed during interrogation that he had entered Tripura via Bangladesh to go to Punjab to monitor army movement there and report to ISI headquarters, police said.
"Now it is established that Munir Khan alias Omar Asraf, arrested on June 4 from the city outskirts, is an ISI agent. During interrogation, Asraf, who hails from Bhawalpur district in Pakistan, has confessed to entering India to watch the movement of military in Punjab and send reports to ISI headquarters in Pakistan," DIG (Police Control) Nepal Das said.
A team of Intelligence Bureau officials are currently interrogating the ISI agent and his collaborators, he said.
Asraf, who received his training from ISI at Multan and Bhawalpur cities in Pakistan, is also suspected to have links with Dawood Ibrahim gang. He was also assigned the task of networking among supporters and activists of Muslim fundamentalists in the North Eastern region, an IB official said.
The ISI agent arrived at Dhaka from Punjab province in Pakistan on June 25 by flight where he was received by a doctor at the Shahjalal airport, the official said.
From Bangladesh, the Pakistani national crossed over to Tripura where he was given full cooperation by his six Indian collaborators, police said.
A local court yesterday remanded Munir Khan and his six collaborators to 10-day police custody.
New team to investigate Hassan Khan
This guy is incredibly well connected and powerful. 8.45bn is actually just the tip of the iceberg. Earlier estimates pointed to ridiculous amounts. Massive media management going on quietly. Someone big is after Khan. I wonder who he pissed off. But Khan is so powerful that he corrupted the first investigative team, so now a 2nd team has to be formed. The Union government has appointed a team to investigate Pune businessman Hassan Ali Khan with a fresh focus on threats to national security, owing to his questionable links with international arms dealer Adnan Khashoggi. Khan's flow of funds into the UBS Zurich will also be part of the probe and any connivance on the part of the bank could spoil its expansion plans of getting big time into retail banking in India.
The income-tax department, Mumbai, had raided Khan in 2007 and found him to be operating a bank account in UBS, Zurich, with a sum of US $8.45 billion. This followed a series of investigations against the flamboyant businessman and the documents recovered from his Pune house revealed that he had stashed huge sums in Swiss banks.
Sources said that the multi-disciplinary team will have officials from the Enforcement Directorate (ED), the Intelligence Bureau, the Central Board of Direct Taxes and the Mumbai police. ED's deputy director in Mumbai, Samir Bajaj will be the convenor of the team, sources said. The Mumbai police will be represented by Sanjay Saxena, additional commissioner of police in charge of the economic offences wing, while commissioner of income tax Rajiv Nabar will be CBDT's representative.
Considering the sensitivity of the case, most of the officials refused to comment on the reasons that prompted the setting up of a new team. "The decision was taken by the government on May 18. The brief is to investigate Khan, keeping in mind national security and the role of the UBS. In case of any negative remarks, the RBI will review the permission given to UBS for its expansion plans," a senior official said.
The ED had traced Khan's alleged transaction with Adnan Khashoggi through a notarised statement of Khan signed on June 29, 2003, in London. The document contains a letter written by Khan to Prabhu Guptara, director, Organizational Development, Woflsberg Executive Development Centre, Switzerland (a subsidiary of UBS), explaining why one of his Swiss accounts had been tagged with the remark: "Funds from weapons sales", and had been made inoperable.
The letter also explained the circumstances under which Khan first opened an account with UBS Singapore in 1982 with $1.5 million, through Retro Hartmann of UBS Singapore and then how Dr Peter Weilly, Khashoggi's portfolio manager, allegedly took over as his manager. Khan had received $300m in this account, allegedly from Khashoggi's Chase Manhattan bank account in New York.
The ED has issued a showcause notice against Khan but adjudication is pending. Though the ED has booked him for Foreign Exchange Management Act (FEMA) violations, no action has been initiated under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA) as there was no criminal case against him. "The only criminal case is of holding multiple passports registered by the city police but it is not enough to proceed against him under PMLA. The government also could not get more details on the Swiss bank accounts as we failed to establish that the money accumulated was the proceeds of crime," a revenue official said.

High drama on IGI as 27 detained for travelling on fake visas
NEW DELHI: The IGI Airport witnessed high drama on Tuesday evening when 27 passengers from two different flights were detained for attempting to travel to Dubai on fake visas. Information on the passengers had come via anonymous phone calls to the call centres of Kingfisher Airlines and Jet Airways claiming that a certain number of Bangladeshi nationals would attempt to hijack the evening flights from Delhi to Dubai.
Sources revealed that the first call was received in the Pune call centre of Kingfisher Airlines sometime in the afternoon. The caller claimed that 12 Bangladeshi nationals would be travelling on IT 041 to Dubai and would attempt to hijack the flight. The caller identified the PNR number of each of the passengers who he claimed would be involved in the act.
Later in the day, a similar call was received in the Delhi call centre of Jet Airways. The caller made identical claims, saying that 16 Bangladeshi nationals and a couple of north Indians would attempt to hijack their flight to Dubai. He too identified them by their PNR numbers. While he did not give details about the flight, officials narrowed down on one flight, 9W 548 that leaves for Dubai at 7.50pm.
A total of 27 passengers, 12 travelling on Kingfisher and 15 on Jet Airways, were found to be travelling on fake visas,'' said Rohit Katiyar, spokesperson, CISF.
Those nabbed belonged to various states in the country. While no weapons were found on them, the callers had identified each of them correctly through their PNR numbers. Officials said that the callers probably only wanted to bust a fake visa operation and had made claims about the hijack only to heighten the scare and get the attention of the security agencies.

The NLFT is the other group in tripura, but unless the nscn is put down, nlft cannot be. There is a big tension between the "tribals" (the Debbarmas and the essential citizens of the Manikya dynasty), the Bengalis who make up the majority now (not like they were nt a majority pre-47, just that the tribals feel they have been driven out of their land. Despite the fact that Tagore and the last Manikya ruler were buddy-buddy.) and the converted Christians. NLFT represents the latter group, ATTF the former, and the Manik sarkar led government runs the CPM government. There you go, in one shot the picture of Tripura is kinda clear (even if imprecise at the edges).

Agartala, July 6: The Tripura CPM has started negotiations at the party level to persuade All Tripura Tiger Force chief Ranjit Debbarma to disband his outfit and join the mainstream, following large-scale exodus of the outfit’s members. Several rounds of talks have been held between Ranjit’s emissaries and CPM leaders. Ranjit has demanded the rehabilitation and government jobs for the remaining members of the outfit and his nomination as a CPM candidate for the next Assembly elections from the Simna constituency reserved for STs.
A select group of leaders of the Gana Mukti Parishad, the frontal organisation of the CPM among indigenous people, have been put in charge of the talks. A senior official of the special branch (intelligence wing) of state police said the Gana Mukti Parishad leaders had sent an emissary across the border to the Tiger Force camp at Satcherri late in May. The first round of talks was held between Ranjit’s emissaries and two local CPM leaders near Esrai, Ranjit’s native village, on June 3. “Two more rounds of meetings were held between June 3 and June 30 but things have not yet been finalised because Ranjit sought time to settle his property matters in Bangladesh. Over the years Ranjit had diverted part of the outfit’s funds to acquire land and property in Bangladesh,” said the official. “It will not be very difficult to persuade Ranjit to come overground because his father Krishna Debbarma has been a Gana Mukti Parishad leader. The problem is accepting the condition that Pranab Debbarma will not be nominated but Ranjit will be in his place,” said the official.

Nexus between Thachankary & Madani
Top intelligence officers have unearthed a mysterious link between tainted IPS officer Tomin J Thachankary and controversial PDP leader Abdul Nasser Madani. Highly placed sources said a house at Vennala is under the close scrutiny of the Central intelligence agencies after it was found that the house was taken on rent by Riyan Studio, owned by Thachankary’s wife, and Abdul Nasser Madani in 2006 and 2007 respectively.
Intelligence sources said that the house which Riyan Studio took on rent was the one where Madani and his wife Soofiya Madhani stayed for nearly four months before shifting to their present house at Karukapilly in Kochi. The anti-piracy cell had conducted a search for pirated CDs on the premises of the house.
Karnataka police sources said that it was in this house that Madani met LeT suspect Thadiyantavide Nazeer.
Sources said they were also analysing the context in which Thachankary had voluntarily gone to interrogate Nazeer in Bangalore in the backdrop of this new findings.

Kerala: Islamic court ordered chopping of professor's hand
Sources in the state police told rediff.com that Ashraf had spilled the beans that the Islamic court, which was functioning in Kerala [ Images ] under the auspicious of the Popular Front, had given the sentence to chop off the right hand of Prof Joseph, for 'blasphemy to Prophet Mohammed.'
Police sources also informed that Eaasa Moulavi was the Kerala coordinator of the Darul Khada, and this particular case was decided by its branch in Eearattupettah, in Kottayam district, which is very near to Muvattupuzha, the site of the incident.
Those arrested have also confirmed to the police that the Popular Front is interfering in several family disputes involving Muslim families in the state, and trying to persuade them to come to Darul Khuda, and not to other courts, to settle their disputes.
Re: Internal Security Watch
Honestly I really dont care if Muslims use these kangaroo courts to decide their issues. But as soon as the line is crossed, and the kangaroo court decides on the fate/health/well being of non-Muslims, then it is time to hit back. Or else the various democratic instituitions would soon lose its meaning.shravan wrote:Those arrested have also confirmed to the police that the Popular Front is interfering in several family disputes involving Muslim families in the state, and trying to persuade them to come to Darul Khuda, and not to other courts, to settle their disputes.
I hope at least in this case (thanks to a RoL member being the victim) some speedy justice would be provided and these various 'judges' of the kangaroo court made to face the actual judicial court of the country.

What is this Islamic court business? Is it something setup by the AIMPLB or just a congregation of the local muslims and sort of a panchayat type of thing for muslims? Never heard of it before and this kind of functioning certainly should lead the police to shut it down?

Meanwhile, the All Zeliangrong Students’ Organization (AZSO), a naga student outfit, has called for a 48 hour bandh on NH53. Their excuse: the BRO has been kicked out of repairing NH53 and the manipur government has taken over this task. The real excuse: continue the threats that David Choro and Samson Remei & co. were doing over the 69 day blockade of NH39 and by threatening NH53 and escalating this crisis, put the manipur government on a dock. Paresh Baruah in Pakistan?
SILCHAR, July 6: Setting aside speculations over whereabouts of the ULFA C-in-C, a national TV channel and Intelligence sources on Monday reported that Paresh Baruah has been provided safe home in Pakistan by ISI. Earlier it was reported that the ULFA C-in-C shifted to Kachin province of Myanmar flowing Bangladesh crackdown on Northeast insurgents. Barua, the intelligence sources said, was escorted by the notorious agency from his hideout in Chittagong Hills Tract and brought to an undisclosed location of Pakistan. A section of anti-Awami League elements in the security forces helped ISI to ferry out the ULFA commander. Panic gripped the rank and file of ULFA as all its ten top leaders including chairman Arabinda Rajkhowa fell into the security dragnet. ULFA leaders were adopting Muslim names in Bangladesh.
According to information, a satellite phone is provided to Barua to maintain contact with his comrades. He is also believed to be in touch with Joish-e-Mohammed, Laskar-e-Toiba and Harkat-ul- Mujahideen to launch ‘sleeper cells’ in the state. Before finding safe passage and shelter in Pakistan, ULFA leaders sought refuge in Myanmar after the joint operation of Indo-Royal forces in Bhutan. Arabinda Rajkhowa and Paresh Barua had sought the cooperation of NSCN (K) in particular which has its headquarters and operational bases in Myanmar. ULFA, NSCN (K) and UNLF, it is to be recalled, had together formed Indo-Burma Revolutionary Front (IBRF) in 1988 and pledged to fight hand in hand to liberate the oppressed people of the region from the colonial rule of New Delhi.
For Paresh Barua Myanmar was a favourite destination and that his presence in Kachin province was corroborated by the confessions of a number of arrested cadres and leaders. After Chittagong and Cox’s Bazar ports came under American and Indian surveillance, {when was this?} these were no longer considered safe for shipment of arms and ammunitions from international markets. Kachin with its easy access to Yunnan province of China became the base of operation for procuring weapons and explosives and also the conduit through the porous border of India with Myanmar.
Why did Barua opt for Pakistan? New Delhi and the Junta government of Yangon have agreed to launch joint operation against NE rebels in Myanmar with active support from Kachin Independent Army, Arakan Army, Democratic People of Arakan and the Rohingiya Solidarity Organization. A tacit and tactical understanding has been reached after exchange of high level delegations between the two countries. {wow, GK Pillai was visiting Burma Jan 20, 2010, Dr. VS Seshadri took over as amb of burma from Aloke Sen in May, and sentinel has a reason to now believe that a crackdown will happen, are they so crazy?}
After having an inkling of the impending crackdown, Barua might have been advised by NSCN (K) to opt for any other sanctuary. He might have slipped out to Chittagong Hill Tracts and sought the help of ISI. ISI’s nexus with ULFA is more than pronounced. It has played second fiddle to the outfit’s many blasts and deadly strikes with Pakistan or Bangladesh based terrorist groups as a second line of support base. In an interview to CNN sometime back, Pervez Musharaff, former military ruler, said “ISI has influence over every terrorist group inside and outside and uses this to advantage” debunking Pakistan for its denial that the ISI has no role in terror activities across the border. ISI which has a bigger role in the now infamous ‘Karachi plot’ is to the destabilize India, north east India being quite vulnerable.

You have to remember that dialogue between God and Muhammed is in important part of Islam. Where as, the above question uses a ridiculous dialogue between God and a hypothetical Muhammed.Add correct punctuations to the dialogue below:
Muhammed.............. Supreme creator supreme creator (this is the way Kerala Muslims address God)
God........................ What is the matter(enthada) son of a dog (nayinte mone)
Muhammad.............. How many pieces will be there if a fish is cut
God........................ Weren't you told several times that there will be three pieces, dog (naye)
Today's BBC reports Family of Indian professor 'forgives' attackers and following part caught my attention.
Basically, this Prof is not a leftist but a truely religious Christian. He was attacked while returning from church, and his sister is a nun. The controversial question is really derogatory and the type of language can not be expected to be used in an academic circle. I feel that question did not come by accident, but was added deliberately. It appears that ROL is playing some game with ROP, and in the end, ROL "forgives" the ROP criminals.Prof Joseph's sister, Mary Stella - who is a Roman Catholic nun - was with him when the assailants launched their attack with an axe, knives and a petrol bomb.

People who attacked the prof are real dumb criminals. No doubt. I'm not saying that they are right in attacking him.
But, I see a lot of attempt to portray the prof as innocent, which I think is not correct. Look at the link A_Gupta posted. International Catholic Church is also coming out to justify the prof, which smells fishy.

Re: Internal Security Watch
Thanks for providing the translation. But we should also remember that this excerpt was taken from a book written by P.T Kunjumohammed, who is a commie and an ex-MLA to boot. The excerpt was taken from a book of screenplays by this author. In the screen play the character who asks the question to the God was an unnamed mentally challenged fellow. Prof. Joseph gives this person a name and that was Mohammad.shyam wrote:The translated version of question is below (translation is not perfect as it uses derogatory form of Malayalam)
But if you notice, the state police had arrested the professor for inciting communal hatred (even though the arrest was forced by targetting his relatives). The professor had apologised for this folly of his, and the college authorities had also suspended him. Infact I feel the Kerala society had condemned this incident in a democratic way, and the state govt. for a change took some positive actions.
But then RoP fanatics had to use some of their scare-mongering tactics used else where successfully. Slowly but steadily the public opinion would turn against the RoP fanatics. Currently the score card is RoL 1 - RoP 0. This incident has just shown that RoP does not believe in a non-violent way of sorting out things. To put it quite honestly, I have seen various TV programmes lampooning priests and nuns quite liberally, especially thanks to the Sister Abhaya Scandal. Yet to find any large scale rioting or targetting the TV channel or the actors.
The case is going to take some interesting twists and turns as ROL is also a strongly established religion in Kerala. They too have enough clout amongst the political circles cut across party lines. The K.P is also utilising this incident to go head-strong against NDF etc., which were always suspected to have terrorist idealogies.

Sachin, I was not aware that Prof had already apologized. Things should have settled there.
Re: Internal Security Watch
just one thing,
The RIT/REC and now NIT that Mupalla refers to is in Adityapur and not Jamshedpur. Adityapur is across the Kharkai river and was just a village 30 years ago but for the REC.
jamshedpur especially the TISCO township area is very well developed with town buses, auto etc etc. In fact you could get DC comics there in the eighties imported from America since it was on the Bombay-Calcutta train route.
Jharkhand pound for pound has great prospects. It has three major industrial centers in Jamshedpur, Ranchi and Bokaro. Once this naxal shit is fixed it will definitely turn the corner and emerge as much more than what it seems now.
Bihar BTW has indeed turned the corner in many respects and expect a major investment boom if the same govt returns to power.

All is not well with the safety of the railway system in TN & Kerala. After the Rockfort express escaped a major disaster last month, there have been a series of attempts to derail the trains including one at one of the suburban stations at Chennai.
In Kerala, brake pipes of train found cut at Nilambur
In Kerala, brake pipes of train found cut at Nilambur
I also read elsewhere that bomb material (possibly for quarrying purposes) were found in another Kerala train along with detonators. The brake pipes of a passenger train stationed at Nilambur at night for a 6.40 a.m. departure to Shoranur were found sawed on Thursday.
Railway authorities and the police said it was a sabotage attempt. They suspect the hand of extremist elements in it. The air-pressured twin rubber hose of train no. 654 was sawed at 20 places, believed to be using a hack-saw blade. The 25-mm-diameter brake pipe and the feeder pipe of the loco engine and seven coaches were cut.
Divisional Railway Manager S.K. Raina said it was the first time that he had come across such a curious sabotage attempt. The police started an inquiry.

The faqer is appealing in the high court on monday.Sachin wrote:Bengaluru Sessions Court rejects the anticipatory bail plea for Mahdani (Mathrubhumi-Malayalam) which seems to be a dream come true news for him. The arrest warrant has been extended till July 20th.
Re: Internal Security Watch
Railway security to be strengthened in Kerala
Security in trains and railway stations is to be strengthened by Railways and the Kerala Police in the wake of the Nilambur incident and detection of explosive materials from the general compartment of the Vanchinad Express on Thursday.
On Friday, there was a bomb threat to the New Delhi-bound Kerala Express.
A letter to this effect received by the stationauthorities at Kollam demanded the release of PDP leader Abdul Nazir Maudany.
The meeting was informed that the police had ‘zeroed in' on those behind the rupture of the brake pipes of a passenger train stationed at Nilambur.
Re: Internal Security Watch
Adityapur is just some 20km from Tatanagar station. You can either go by Auto or by some crappy bus. The folks used to pull the chain at Adiyapur and get down instead of going all the way to Tatanagar. Pulling chains, hijacking buses etc is very easy those days. I hope things changed there.D Roy wrote:just one thing,

Speaking about potential and economic growth - tell me which part of India is really bankupt of resouruces (human and/or natural). It is the governance that made/make the difference.
You are absolutely right and if there is a Gujarat/Maharashtra style governance and good law and order, JHK would be number one state in terms of prosperity. We hear this for several years but again irrespective of maoists, the 80 odd seats are equally split between 8 parties and the mandate is impossible for any combo to rule.
Though Nitish has made tremoundous progress, the erstwhile Bihar region is way behind the progressing parts of India. They just have to get to strict implementation of basic law and order before they can even think of special forces, intelligence etc.

Have patience. twenty -thirty years of misrule and chaos can not be undone in one day. Things have changed on the ground. And you are very right, basic law and order is the need of hour, it is lagely being taken care of. Recently, police have encountered a notorious criminal gang after 24 hr gunbattle. This and such other incident would have salutary effect.
Nitish ji would surely come again, no matter what tricks played by kongrass or bjp or lefty or any other party. I only hope that aloo and his thugs are routed thoroughly so that they never dare to stand for election. The whole of arjedi clan should be behind high security jail in isolation.

India: Muslims demand headscarves in Christian school

Ropers,Popers and the Scorpian dance
http://ibloga.blogspot.com/2010/07/radi ... -into.htmlMuslims in Kerala state, India, say they will intensify their protest against a Catholic school that refuses to allow girls wearing headscarves to attend classes. It is “our fundamental right to practice our religion,” said Abdul Jabbar, district secretary of the Popular Front of India, a confederation of Muslim organizations. (ITS A CATHOLIC SCHOOL!!)Muslim groups in Thalassery have been protesting the Church-managed San Jos Metropolitan School’s policy for over a year.
The school allows students to wear headscarves to campus but wants them to take them off once they reach the classroom. (As well they should)“We will intensify our protest until the school permits our students to wear headscarves in class,” said Jabbar, who organized a march to the school on July 1. (The schools should stand fast. Let the muslims pull their children out!)He said Muslims also want Muslim boys to be allowed to attend Friday prayers at a mosque nearby.
(DEMAND!! DEMAND!! DEMAND!! When will this crap stop?)

Head lines from the socialist republic...
CD seized during raids *.
Contains gruesome pictures of Talibanic justice, including chopping of body parts. The idea was to inspire the terrorist gangs to pull of similar acts.
Raids happening across southern districts in Kerala. Two more people arrested. The investigation team reorganised as there were reports that sensitive information was leaking out. CB CID SP P.N Unnirajan and SB CID Dy.SP Krishnakumar now heads the team. SB CID reported that in panic lots of PDP and NDF workers had conducted a secret meeting with around 100 people in attendance.
Look out notices against 3 terror suspects *
Police confirms that it was the Popular Front's district head-honchos who organised the attack.
Emotional cadres, nonchalant Mahdani *
Mahdani's anticipatory bail plea rejected by Sessions Court in Bengaluru. Appeal to be given at High Court on Monday. Rumours spread that Bengaluru police may go in for the arrest. Large number of PDP workers throng Anwarserry Yatheem Khana, where Mahdani is put up. Mahdani "advices" party cadre not to create riot and ruckus. Mahdani feels that IB is an organisation which makes terrorists
. Special branch reports 800 people including women and children at the Anwarserry Yatheem Khana and expects trouble to break out if Mahdani is arrested.
Clues found, in the train sabotage incident *
Clues have been found regarding the type of weapon used to make the cuts in the brake pipes. Investigation now also moves to other parts of the state.
