Re: Understanding the US - Again
DJT has upped the war against China, now at 245% tariff rate. This escalation cements the US war with China and let this be very clear - DJT lost 2020 election due to the Sino-Wahabi-Left cabal which threw him out, some say illegally. The Covid-Kungflu happened just before the election marring the prospects of DJT in election. Many in the world are fed up with the antics of China and ASEAN countries especially know the China bully very well. The tiff in south china seas has nations like the Philippines, Japan, South Korea, even Vietnam thoroughly disgusted with China. Russia is not exactly friends with China either, though the Ukraine war has them banded against their foe, the US. The eternal hatred of China with India knows no bounds in actions and deeds. The recent standoff in Galwan is a case in point. In some sense, the US taking the lead in opposing China worldwide, is a gift towards India.
China is a global problem. The dependency on China for manufactured goods is off-putting to many nations. BRI is another attempt at Chinese hegemony. Some African nations are reeling under debt due to the Chinese and some African nations are ecological disasters due to excessive mining and spilling of toxic chemicals into African rivers. Globally China has become a leech nation, a security threat that needs correction. The gundagiri displayed by Iran via houthis, hamas, etc in middle east has a deep link into China. If unchecked China would dominate the world to the detriment of many nations. The US being the big guy, had to put a stop to China. This requires turning the Chinese economy upside down and knock them down a few notches.
Syed Abbas Araghchi of Iran is now saying that the talks with the US are constructive and promising. Kya bhat hai. Oh, BTW Eurotards have to choose between China or the US and what about Canada the 51st state. Aussies have to line with the US and the little chuwawa called the UK has to tuck its tail and silently whimper in the corner. DJT has them exactly where he wants, exercising the power of the US appropriately.
Also note that Treasury Sec Scott Bessent has said secondary tariffs are going to be clamped to limit China involvement. What does this mean - simple - no trade with China. For India this means to reduce its trade with China, no more cheap china maal, make them yourself and disentangle with China. Again kya direction the US is dictating to those who want concessionary trade with the US. If this is not a once in lifetime move I don't know what could be anything other.
US has reached out to only 3 nations - India, Japan and South Korea - to conclude tariff talks promptly. This should tell you where the US is headed. DJT is providing a free hand to these nations, which means India needs to act with dignity and authority to get the best possible deal. India is also free to push out china from its immediate neigbhors, or reduce the influence, even Tibet, Myanmar is on the cards. India can ask Nepal and Sri Lanka and Maldives etc to join the Indian Union.

This is not something that came about organically, it is the result of work by Hindu groups and further bolstered by the rapidly growing Hindu population in the urban centers of GA. I think it has a good chance of becoming law. The consequences will not be merely symbolic. E.g., it will speed the building of more Hindu temples and community centers that have been greatly slowed down due to local objections that are mostly disguised hinduphobia.chetak wrote: ↑13 Apr 2025 15:12https://www.indiatoday.in/world/us-news ... 2025-04-11Georgia has become the first U.S. state to introduce a bill recognising Hinduphobia and anti-Hindu discrimination.

This is a stellar analysis by Retd. Lt. Gen P R Shankar (now prof in IIT-M) complete with SWOT (strengths weakness opportunity threats) outline of US and China with tons of china oriented data including their so-called GDP numbers. Worth a quick dekho to understand the entire US vs China trade war and what it entails. Some key interviews with Lutnick and Bessent clarify DJT's thrust and outlook against China. Reducing dependency on China for the world is the theme. There is some discussion on India's make in india program which hasn't yielded the scale of industrialization needed for India, mainly due to the lethargy of babus and the obstinate Judiciary which blocks everything the legislature does. The Modi ji govt has done a rather poor job in stemming the onslaught of Chinese cheap goods flooding the Indian market. This is a challenge, which the US will not take too kindly wrt India trade in US. The opportunity handed to India is once in a lifetime gift and if India does not play its cards well and take action, then the hopes for India growth are going to be bleak. There is chart by brookings institute which show the number of people spending say $11/month is higher for India than China. The consumer market in India is strong.
Some major points the Lt. Gen missed are that China is dependent on crude oil import and for the US they still have access to the best talent pool in the world. The Oil import from Iran can be blocked with a deal on Iran nuclear by the US. With India in IOR blockade means China will come down to its knees.
China is headed down the Japanification direction and will soon be relegated into a massive downward change in their economic output. There is brewing political dissent in places like Chengdu. Changing the consumption pattern with stimulus in China is going to be counter productive. The ASEAN allies of china are being boxed into coercion by the US against china made stuff. A desperate China may lash out and India is a prime target. Any moves against Taiwan or Philippines will trigger an all out war with the US and DJT will not hesitate to use the might of the US armed forces. The Emperor is trying to save face with his people but the writing is on the wall for his quick demise in China.

IMO Pahalgam is the lash out by China and India is being tested on the response. If we go kinetic - then that brings destruction and moving industries etc. can be delayed, so on and so forth....
Re: Understanding the US - Again
It looks like US NSA Mike Waltz (till recently co-chair of the India caucus) will be fired. At the same time, the Pentagon seems to be in a churn according to officials who have been fired recently.
In this condition, I hope the US will still be able to act as a defense/security partner to Bharat if needed over the next few months.
During 2020 stand-off with PRC, it looked like DOD under Esper and DOS under Pompeo were fairly effective in supporting Bharat with intelligence inputs. Both are now in some kind of political exile.

Trump moving Mike Waltz to UN from being a NSA
Rubio to be interim NSA
Just a routine post 100-day change or is there more it!!
I get a strange feeling that Mike Waltz is being moved to UN for a specific reason
Things that can go south on the Geo-political scene:
1.Rus Pukraine war : Puktaine probably told to just suck it and get used to loosing territory
2. Gaza : Wonder if Isreal is going to redraw the borders
3. Possibile redrawing of borders in South Asia
4. Chin/Taiwan/SCS
5. US acquiring new islands or lands??

UN Ambassador is a cushy job but for the US it doesn't require anyone special at that position to get their pov across.
Re: Understanding the US - Again
^^Yes, the signal app leaks issues. By firing a non-cabinet member (i.e. Waltz) and his staff - instead of Hegseth - and putting Waltz in a vacant and relatively "harmless" posting, some of the opposition heat has been dissipated. Also, the UN ambassador post is cabinet level, so it is a promotion and not a demotion as far as "rank" is concerned.
Unlike Bharat, the US NSA is not a cabinet-level official and has a very low ranking (#17) in the order of precedence. Whereas the UN ambassador is #7 (higher than Rubio and the cabinet).

Following the phone call with a letter would be even better, IMHO. In the follow-up letter, you would be able to explain more. But still it is good keep the letter to two paragraphs at most. Also mention in the letter that you already called and the letter expands on why you are concerned about funding cuts.Find your two U.S. Senators and your U.S. House Representative.
Engaging Your Member via a Phone Call with Staff
Calling is the most effective way to ensure your concerns are heard immediately by your Members of Congress. Speaking with their staff is effective, as they are key to informing the Member.
Key information for your call:
...
- Thank them for taking the time to speak with you and be courteous.
- Introduce yourself and explain that you are a constituent of their district/state and an applied mathematics researcher.

As IMF sanctions loan and Trump promises trade with Pakistan, court documents expose Pakistani network behind fentanyl trafficking and global scams
https://www.opindia.com/2025/05/pakista ... -us-trade/
DOJ exposes Pakistan-linked criminal network behind smuggling of narcotics and running scams
On 5th May, Krebson Security reported that the United States Department of Justice (DOJ) exposed a complex network of Pakistan-linked companies that are accused of shipping dangerous synthetic opioids and running global online fraud operations.
The revelations are linked to a Dallas-based company called eWorldTrade. According to an unsealed indictment, the company facilitated the distribution of synthetic opioids including isotonitazene and carfentanyl, both considered exponentially more potent than fentanyl.
Karachi-based director and notorious firm linked to eWorldTrade
According to court documents, the eWorldTrade trademark was registered to Azneem Bilwani, who is based in Karachi, Pakistan. He also serves as the director of Abtach Ltd, which is a Pakistani IT and marketing firm. The company was previously flagged by the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) and Google for its alleged involvement in large-scale trademark registration scams.
The Axact connection – Karachi at the centre of global fraud
Further investigation revealed that there was a strong link between Abtach and disgraced Pakistani company Axact. In 2015, Axact was globally exposed for selling fake academic degrees and running blackmail-based extortion schemes. Dozens of Axact officials were initially arrested and convicted by a Pakistani court. However, reports revealed none of the convicts served their sentences. Many of them reportedly resumed similar fraudulent activities under Abtach and other fronts.
Growing concern over US’s stance on Pakistan
Not only has Trump promised trade with Pakistan, he also stated he would find ways to mediate between India and Pakistan over Kashmir, which he called a 1,000-year-old conflict. Pakistan was created in 1947, less than 100 years ago.
The Pakistan-linked network involved in the smuggling of deadly synthetic opioids such as isotonitazene, carfentanyl and fentanyl citrate has once again underlined the rogue nation’s dangerous double game. While Islamabad continues to receive monetary aid, entities operating from Karachi and directly linked to previously exposed fraud networks like Axact and Abtach have been accused of flooding American markets with narcotics that have killed many.
The irony of the United States pushing for ceasefire talks and trade with a country whose actors stand indicted for shipping poison to American streets has not gone unnoticed.

Re: Understanding the US - Again
This is from talkingpointsmemo.com, and is more about understanding Trump - though now he is the US
Trump’s campaign against foreign students in the U.S. has been at least nominally focused on support for Hamas among the protests against the Israeli onslaught on Gaza. Butler and Secretary of State Marco Rubio has several times recently said that “Hamas supporters” are not welcome in the U.S. and will be expelled. And yet the Qataris are quite literally the top bankrollers of Hamas and they speak for them and help them negotiate with the Great Powers and with Israel. It reminds me of a story about Karl Lueger, the populist Mayor of Vienna at the turn of the 20th century who was one of the key articulators of and arguably one of the creators of mass-politics political antisemitism. And yet Lueger would himself dine with and socialize with members of the capital’s Jewish elite. There’s a famous story in which someone asks Lueger: “You’re the big enemy of the Jews and yet you socialize with them and some are your friends. How can you justify that?” To which, Lueger is said to have responded, “I decide who’s a Jew.”
Like Lueger, like Trump. He’ll decide who’s a Hamas supporter.
Re: Understanding the US - Again
Comey belongs in jail, DNI Tulsi Gabbard says
Re: Understanding the US - Again
From the Bulwark - to understand what the US is now become:
Article I, Section 9, Clause 8:
US Constitution:As he tries to justify accepting a gift of a $400 million Qatari plane, Donald Trump is caught on the horns of an inescapable dilemma. If the Qataris are giving him the plane in exchange for something, it’s a corrupt bribe—a transaction so unforgivable the Supreme Court took pains to note it was not included in the sweeping grant of presidential immunity it created last year.{Some, including the dissenting justices in that case, have argued that the grant of immunity would make trying a president for bribery more difficult, but none of the justices disputed that taking bribes would remain a criminal act.}
If, on the other hand, they’re giving him the plane in exchange for nothing, then it’s by definition a gift—which runs headlong into the brick wall of the Constitution’s Emoluments Clause, which forbids U.S. officeholders from accepting gifts without the consent of Congress “of any kind whatever, from any King, Prince, or foreign State.”
In a better world than this, that would pretty much be the end of it. The moment the deed to Arab Force One changed hands, the Constitution Police would burst through the wall like the Kool-Aid man. “Hey!” they’d shout sternly. “You’re not allowed to do that!” “Oh, our mistake!” Trump and the Qataris would reply, and everyone would go their separate ways.
Unfortunately, no such wholesome force exists, and all the relevant parties seem to be soldiering ahead with the obviously corrupt transaction.
Article I, Section 9, Clause 8:
No Title of Nobility shall be granted by the United States: And no Person holding any Office of Profit or Trust under them, shall, without the Consent of the Congress, accept of any present, Emolument, Office, or Title, of any kind whatever, from any King, Prince, or foreign State.

One of the gems he said is that the deal with China prevents China from being broken up as a nation. DJT is very clear on many things - no nukes, no nuclear exchange, trade with no barriers, he believes in peace rather war. "Moody’s dropped the U.S. rating from its “Aaa” category to “Aa1” on concerns over increased debts and interest payments that need to be paid by the federal government."
https://thehill.com/business/5304902-mo ... it-rating/
Not sure how much of an increase in interest rate it imposes on US debt.
Each point increase (0.01%) in interest rate of $36 trillion in debt is $3.6 billion dollars in additional interest.
So basically, the US government will be paying more than what the IMF paid Pakistan for just a 0.01% increase in interest rates.
And if I understand the market figures, the increase in interest rate is more like 0.4%, or 40 times what I wrote above.
