Re: Israeli participation in Indian Defence (Industry)

Re: Israeli participation in Indian Defence (Industry)
George,
1.Lakshya negotiations are still ongoing
2.The Israelis want full tech rights
3.We want our pound of flesh in return
Whatever Deb said is fallacious.
All this has alredy been reported by both sides.
Regards,
Nitin

Nitin,
Thanks for the update. If they want TOT they can have it, as long as they reciprocate the gesture with what we want. And i think it will be win-win for both sides.

Re: Israeli participation in Indian Defence (Industry)
Its not clear why they are asking for tech - transfer.PTA is not beyond the means of Israeli industry. The only reason for import must be it may actually turn out cheaper than making it at home.TOT implies they are going to make it at home , and they may as well make their own version.

Shri CGS Sarma has taken over as Director, DEBEL on 8 January 1999.
During the past five years, he has been guiding the development of electro-optics sensor packages for remotely pioleted vehicle Nishant. He was deputed to Israel in 1996 to assess the performance of the FLIR system for the Falcon project.

India Negotiates Defence Packages With Israel
By Rahul Bedi, JDW Correspondent, New Delhi
Under a series of defence packages being negotiated between India and Israel, New Delhi has acquired 1,022 man-portable radar and 30 battlefield surveillance radar systems (BSRs) from Tel Aviv in a contract valued at some Rs3.30 billion ($68.7 million).
Indian defence sources said the agreement with El-Op for 3,000-4,000m range man-portable radar systems for Rs2.5 billion and long-range observation and reconnaissance systems (LOROS) - capable of detecting targets 10km away - for Rs800 million was signed in August after bids by French electronic manufacturers Thales and Sagem were rejected.
Indian Ministry of Defence (MoD) sources said a price negotiation committee (PNC) is also finalising the acquisition of 600 Elbit thermal- imaging stand-alone systems (TISAS) to equip 300 Indian Army T-72 main battle tanks and 300 Russian BMP armoured personnel carriers for around Rs60 billion.
Negotiations have also opened with Israel Aircraft Industries (IAI) and French competitor Thales for six long-range observation reconnaissance pods for the Indian Air Force's (IAF's) Mirage 2000H and Su-30 MKI fighter aircraft in a deal estimated at around Rs70 billion.
The PNC tag for the TISAS of around Rs10 million per piece is reportedly nearing fruition and the deal is likely to be signed later this year after Thales was "outflanked" by Elbit, which "significantly" dropped its price.
India had acquired 56 Israeli BSRs and 200 man-portable radars three years ago for Rs8 billion alongside a transfer of technology to the state-owned Bharat Electronics Limited for local manufacture.
Indian Defence Secretary Subir Dutta, leading a team of senior MoD and IAF officers, left for Israel on 18 September for the first meeting of the Defence Joint Working Group (JWG) formalised during the recent, unpublicised visit to New Delhi by Amos Yaron, Director-General of the Israeli MoD.
Headed by the respective defence secretaries, the JWG will formalise a "road map" for cementing military, security and intelligence-sharing ties besides negotiating defence purchases that include two Green Pine radar systems and Phalcon airborne early-warning systems.
The IAF team in Tel Aviv will work out details of the Phalcon that will be mounted on a Russian IL-76 (NATO reporting name 'Candid') heavy transport aircraft (Jane's Defence Weekly 10 July).
MoD sources said Dutta will also look into the possibility of acquiring ground sensors for installation along northern Kashmir's frontier to monitor militant infiltration from neighbouring Pakistan, additional unmanned air vehicles (UAVs) and aerostat balloons.
India recently signed a deal for eight Israeli Searcher-II UAVs for deployment in Kashmir's mountainous region to monitor cross-border activity while IAI is working closely with Hindustan Aeronautics Limited on the upgrade of 125 MiG 21bis ('Fishbed') fighters and providing advanced avionics and weapon systems for 40 Russian Su-30 MKI multi-role fighters

UPI Hears
India is installing radars from Israel along its disputed border with Pakistan in Kashmir. The first of the 1,022 portable radars, which can detect human movement up to 6 miles away, have already been delivered and a training program is under way for border troops at Jammu. The deal, with Israel's EL-OP company for short-range radars and long-range observance and reconnaissance systems, is said to be worth close to $70 million. A competing bid by French electronics giant Thales failed. But negotiations for close-range sensor detectors from the United States, first broached in June during a visit by U.S. defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld, are still proceeding.
