Kalyani Strategic Systems, a wholly-owned subsidiary of the company, has been awarded an export order for a 155mm artillery gun platform.
The order is to be executed over a 3-year timeframe. The total value of the order is $155.50 million
Re: Indian Military/Defence Exports
Saudi Arabia was showing interest in the Bharat 52 from Kalyani. The Government had also granted an export clearance for the system.
Hoping that it an export to Saudi Arabia itself.

Artillery systems are brute force weapons. Very little to learn from them unless you can engineer and produce them. In that case pakistan would rather look elsewhere.Manish_P wrote:Which could lead to Pakis handling it for their Arab masters. True. Hence I felt not as risky as a Frontline fighter.
Then of course one can never tell when the ummah feeling will rise and these get carted to the Pakis.
Oh well at least we stand to make some money on the deal, rather than pay someone to get the stuff only for that someone to give 'aid' to the pakis.

Re: Indian Military/Defence Exports
Good diplomacy at work, combined with a world-class product and Modi's Atmanirbhar push. Phenomenal news all around!
At say $2 Million a pop, that's probably an order of 75 units. A 3 year fulfillment implies a production rate of 1 unit every 2 weeks. Easily do'able for Kalyani. They have plans to churn out 1 a day by 2025.

This is a good development. KSA is one of the four fathers and it is time we peeled their support off of pakiland.
KSA wants to diversify away from massa defence equipment. It is either us or China. Russ probably has no capacity to supply them.

We didnt lose this order on basis of tech/product. Its a foreign relations failure. Koreans pulled off a better offer (might have included some US influence since FA50 has more US components, some palm greasing of right people in malaysian govt. and a bit of diplomatic arm twisting).
I wouldnt write away the import lobby here too. If Tejas gets exported, the import lobby might not be able to keep off Tejas orders.
Also Koreans aint taking in palmoil as a payment, so this wasnt on merit. Koreans can fully play dirty when needed. I remember a boxing game where a Korean umpire blatantly favored home side .

Perhaps there's simply a poor product-market fit and dynamics of economies-of-scale:
- The FA-50 family has 200+ units already made, and a much larger MRO ecosystem than the Tejas
- Perhaps the Malays are not looking for a top-of-the-line fighter but one that can handle a variety of training / LIFT roles etc.
- The perception is Japanese / Korean factories are typically better than Indian factories and their workforce typically has better productivity/quality
Let's have a roadmap for 400+ desi fighters in the IAF and execute on it. The sales will come by default over the next decade. Meanwhile keep improving the sales PPTs, get prettier sales wimmens in short skirts, be willing to pay $5 million bribes into swiss bank accounts. etc. All standard practice...

Seems like Phillipines has indicated the order for Brahmos and follow on orders are just icebreakers. One can expect Phillipines to order more radars and Akash batteries. But nothing concrete yet.
PM Modi has set a Rs.35K crore target for 2025 and we are at Rs.13K crore. While Brahmos (Indonesia) might add another Rs.7K crore until 2025, we are still falling short by 50%. The only glimmer of hope is that Brahmos chief saying we'll meet PM's target with Brahmos sales alone.
Egypt , Argentina might order 1 squadron of LCA Tejas if we go by Twitter.

Our own Armed Forces can do their bit towards this goal, by showing confidence in homegrown systems.
Mercifully, the Govt is acting tough and cracking down on imports. The AF will have no choice but buy local.

Re: Indian Military/Defence Exports
Several years ago, I was of the opinion that the forces were being reticent because they havent seen enough of the the equipement materialized to back our future equipement. It all changed with LUH orders . With ALH , they shouldve known HAL Rotary wing capabilities. Despite that Kamov was brought into the picture. And this for an entry level aircraft.Prem Kumar wrote:Our own Armed Forces can do their bit towards this goal, by showing confidence in homegrown systems.

Things started to change a bit in the last 2 years when forces's chiefs also saying "AtmaNirbhar" but then it was noticed that it was mere lip service. Now, with the mantra catching on and several successes, the forces are in a very sticky situation if they go against the grain.
I even saw video on consumer goods and how public are reacting to Chinese imports.
Last month, Def Minister said we know "Made in India" is being (mis) used for the Import-CKD and assembled kit. And suddenly in AeroIndia, we see vendors saying all components are made in Indiaas they pitched their wares.
So it does seem , the tide is turning. Hopefully within a decade, we will see imports as a insult to our capabilities.

India’s defence exports reach ₹15,920 cr in 2022-23, tenfold jump in 6 years
Phillippines on their own indicated that Brahmos was just a warm up.India is in talks with Egypt and Argentina for the possible sale of LCA Tejas to their air forces as the country sharpens its focus on increasing its share in foreign markets. Egypt has projected a requirement for 20 aircraft while Argentina needs 15 new fighters. Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL), the public sector aerospace and defence company, is also looking at exporting Advanced Light Helicopters (ALH) to the Philippines.
Last year, BrahMos Aerospace and the Philippines signed a deal worth almost $375 million for the Philippine Marines to buy three batteries of the BrahMos supersonic cruise missile, and Kalyani Strategic Systems Limited won an export order worth $155.5 million for supplying 155mm artillery guns, the first such order for an Indian firm.
Armenia might order more of land based equipment and potentially antidrone eqipment
Egypt, Argentina for Aircraft
KSSL is well positioned for the future.
The African military leaders conclave hosted by Jaishankar few weeks back is a good step to establish channels .
Whats missing is a big ticket item than has a "we have arrived" feeling.

Dornier 226 for Guyana or Suriname
ATAGS - Armenia
Brahmos - Philippines
Pinaka - ?
Akash - ?
Akash and Pinaka can easily be worth 5000 cr if it happens. Target Namo set was Rs.35000 cr by 2025.
