PIL hearing is carried on Wed. So timing is well-chosen. Vicky Nanjappa from Rediff saying IB not ruling out a faction related to tainted individuals in recent scams planting the bomb to divert attention. Has been refuted by Home Ministry
Anyway sad day for India

The least our PM HE, can do is to take a break from his South Asia shared destiny dream and fly to attend to Natives suffering from minor squabbles. MMS should fly back to Delhi if there is any shame left

cmmon .. why would any "tainted" person will take this chance .. it would have no effect on the case and will just get postponed by a few days. There is absolutely no benefit for them , the bomb was placed in a crowded place and the aim was to cause maximum casualty and most of the people injured where people trying to get pass to get in !!

please don't spread rumor without any base at all .. its a sad day and begs the question as to why India is such a soft target and this IM is still why so potent and why their leaders cannot be arrested and hanged !!!

Damn politics .. damn it !!

India blast: 'briefcase bomb' explodes outside New Delhi high court
A bomb apparently hidden in a briefcase has exploded outside India's high court in New Delhi, killing nine and wounding at least 45.

Xcpt:
By Ben Farmer, Kabul
Sep 2011
The bomb detonated at a crowded public gate at around 10am as the court was open for morning session.

Television pictures showed lawyers in black coats running from the building in the heart of India’s capital.

No one immediately claimed responsibility for the attack, which was close to the parliament and prime minister’s office.

UK Bansal, special home ministry secretary, said the blast was caused by a suspected bomb inside a briefcase.

Kriti Uppal, a witness, said: "There was a bomb blast where you enter the court... there was panic everywhere. Now we are on the way to the hospital,
"It seems to be very powerful (blast). Seems to be many casualties."

The same court was hit by a small explosion in May, causing panic, but no injuries.

The most recent deadly bomb attacks in India were near-simultaneous triple blasts in India's financial capital, Mumbai, in July.

Police have yet to identify those behind those attacks, which killed 24. Suspicion fell on an extremist network known as the Indian Mujahedeen, though no one has been arrested.

The blast in the heart of the capital will renew concern about the authorities' ability to prevent attacks, particularly in sensitive, high-risk areas.

The blast outside the court, seen as a high profile but soft target, comes at a time when the judiciary is in sharp focus for nudging the government to act on issues ranging from corruption to the environment.

Ruling Congress party politicians have over the past year attacked the Supreme Court for overstepping its authority and intervening in executive functions. The Supreme Court is the highest court in India. The High Court is the court of appeal at state or provincial level.

"So an attack on such a target will bring you the maximum mileage," said independent strategic analyst Maj. Gen. Ashok Mehta. "Also, notice that this comes just days before 9/11, so the government should have expected something like this."

Several bomb attacks in large Indian cities in recent years have been tied to the Indian Mujahideen, said to have support from Pakistan-based militants fighting Indian rule in Kashmir.

In May, a low-intensity blast outside the same court triggered panic but injured no one.

Pakistan-based militants attacked Mumbai in coordinated assaults that killed 166 people in 2008, raising tensions with nuclear-armed arch rival Pakistan.

Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and his government came under intense criticism over the handling of those attacks. The government promised a radical overhaul of the security apparatus in India but critics say the reforms have been inadequate and in some cases abandoned.

"This is a glaring example of the shortage of intelligence, both human and technical - something if we had we could have prevented these attacks," said Ajai Sahni, executive director at the Institute for Conflict Management in New Delhi.

Clearly LeT using its new modus operandi. The fact that nothing can be identified itself is a clearly an indicaition of Pak military organisation. No local operation is likely to have that sophistication... Kayani is upping the ante on all fronts, to keep his soldiers satisfied - as such attacks will be seen and understood by them for what it is.

One lawyer on telly said that about 30 have been killed.

So much for "peace talks" with Pak which are nothing but "p*ss talks".MMS and PC should resign if they have any honour left in them. One waits to see what kind of spin PC puts on this outrage now.

Expected Reactions:

Cowardly Act
Will be avenged (whatever that means).
All perpetrators will be caught and punished.
There has been no laxity in intelligence.
This happens all over the world.
No amount of tight security can stop a determined terrorist.
The resilience of the Delhiites (or Bombayyites or Ahmedabadis etc. substitute any other city with an appropriate suffix to denote the citizens there) was in evidence.
Pakistan will immediately condemn the dastardly act.
Hillary Clinton will condemn the act and reiterate support to India to root out terrorism.
India will not retreat from its efforts to bring peace between India and Pakistan (Manmohan Singh)

From rediff live:-

14:32 PM Del blast: HuJI wants Afzal hanging repealed : The NIA chief says a 20-member team has been formed to handle the blast probe and that HuJI's claim that they were behind the blast will be taken seriously since it's a lethal group.

14:28 PM NIA chief: HuJI claims responsibility for blast:
SC Sinha NIA chief says the mail sent to a few media offices allegedly sent by the terror group Harkat-ul-Jihadi Islami is being being looked at. The mail says the HuJI claims responsibility for the attacks. He says it be taken seriously since the HuJI was involved in the Mumbai blasts. The HuJI mail was sent from harkatuljihadi2011@gmail.
Rediff.com's Toral Varia tells us what the mail says: We owe the responsibility of today's blasts at high court Delhi. Our demand is that Afzal Guru's death sentence should be repealed immediately else we would target major high courts and the Supreme Court of India.

Delhi high court blast cowardly act: PM

We are having a land dispute and the case is in Delhi High Court. We have a hearing tomorrow. Thanks to GOD, hearing date wasn't today as my dad would have been there.

Pakistan is not able to control these groups because they feel so threatened by India. India needs to pull back its forces to the bay of Bengal so that Pakistan is able to work freely on terrorism affecting both countries. We cannot let this blast stop dialog. We gain nothing by stopping our talks. recently Hyna Rabunny Cur was in India extending a hand of friendship which our FM Krishna held for a long time as he fumbled for words. We are going to give Brahmos to Vietnam.

P Chidambaram's statement, coming so soon after the blasts, 'confirming' that it was a 'terrorist' attack means that he is preparing to blame 'Hindoo terrorists' for this job.

It is an old congress ploy, whenever they feel under pressure, they create an incident to distract people. They did the same when they framed the Abhinav Bharat group for the blasts for which the perpetrators had already confessed - this was done to deflect attention from the ever growing scams involving CWG, etc.

Now PC/MMS/Sonia/NAC/JNU will say that the main threat to the government people of India comes from Hindoo terrorists, who BTW love BJP/Advani/Modi. So will the people of India please stop agitating for honesty/transparency/dignity in public life, and support the congress in its efforts to send money to Italia remove terrorism from India?

Thank you very much.

It was a sophisticated IED device. ISI definitely. I hope there are enough CCTV around to help investigation.

Why Delhi High Court is a curious question. Possible reasons:

1. To prove that terrorists can breach secured premises. Thus infusing panic thoughts across the nation
2. Terrorize judges & lawyers to blackmail them for soft judgment on 'certain suspects', current and future
3. The 'recruit' (coincidently) happened to be an insider in high court so he probably knows the area well, hence perhaps its easy to explode the device in familiar environment and circumstances.
4. This could be a red herring for something bigger. Blast in a place like delhi high court going to draw all power and attention at one place. I hope our security agencies are much smarter than I think...touch wood

I am sure looking the other way while Raja/Kalmadi and others were looting the country took a lot of courage for the PM.

Most important in order to release pent up frustration and give people a feeling they are doing something meaningful, a candle light procession will be held hoping that the terrorists will take note.

This is THE MOST stupidest thing to do by politicians. Every VIP must stay away from the hospital to avoid crowd gathering. Also, if possible, injured must be admitted to different hospitals.

Saffron terror is trying to destabilize the country and communal harmony (diggy)

..since we started dialogue with pakistan there is increase in terror attack. Isn't this an excellent alibi for pakis??

Sorry to disappoint you, but all the CCTVs were taken to Ram Lila ground to keep an watch over the RSS terrorists assembled under the garb of black money related protests organized by a fake hermit.

However the Delhi Police forgot to bring back the CCTVs to their usual locations. :D

No CCTV coverage there, as per Rediff, as the acquisition was stuck in the tendering process.

^^ Yes, it is very dangerous to keep suspecting the Hindoo community ( esp those wearing saffron knickers) after every act. Hope Maulana Mulayam heeds his own advice and starts correcting his actions.
