MF: And how are you going to fight terrorism? This is the task that so many countries have actually failed to deal with.
RD: Well, not really failed, but put it under control. It’s a state of mind that cannot be erased easily. So you have to fight it and then convince the others who are not into it yet, or at least their paradigm is not attuned to what the ISIS is or are doing, and, when you convince them, the violence may reduce to a minimum.
RD: I have nothing against America. They’re perfectly alright. Trump is my friend. But my foreign policy has shifted from the pro-Western one. I am now working on alliance with China, and I hope to start a good working relationship with Russia. Why? Because the Western world, the EU, and everything – it’s all this double talk. So, the EU granted us 200 million, and this grant carried with it a condition that this money would be used to improve the human rights, and so on and so forth. I said, “No. I don’t need it.”

more from Duterte on what he will do
‘Don’t f**k with me about ISIS’: Duterte invokes Eastwood, Jesse James in anti-militia pledge
Marawi is a mainly Muslim city in Lanao del Sur province on the southern island of Mindanao. One take away is in a democratic country such a ghetto should be gradually filled up with mix of general population and changed demography. India doing same mistake in West JK, Kerala etc. It seems there is significant support to militants where ever muslims are allowed to dominate in numbers.
Mindanao is home to several Muslim rebel groups fighting for greater autonomy.
Govt has confirmed that along with local there are many foreign ISIS fighters in Marawi right now. Perhaps pop up effect of IS getting cruched in MEast.
the other two are probably smaller and shadowy for now - trying to build up numbers and mass. the indonesian kalimantan province east coast and the eastern coast of borneo seem like contiguous playing areas. the mass of islands and shallow seas make it east to sortie into the indonesian makassar (spice) islands too.
all shall feel the wrath of the faithful there.

mean while Dutrete has said army should take over Marawi in 3 days..lets hope it doesn't become another Mosul..
Looks like plundered ar15 and m16 rifle from govt stocks or corrupt govt depots sold some off. I dont think anyone outside usa license makes these rifles . Indonesia and malaysia probably use these too...so lot of places to loot or steal from.

army is clashing with IS linked militants in Marawi. According to some news channels army has upper hand but some say army is locked in street to street battle against militants who are using civilians as human shields.
Tanks & precision air strike is being used. No murmur from China so far.

Dutrete under fire from BBC for rape joke
The president of the Philippines has come under fire for joking about rape in a speech to soldiers.
While speaking at a military camp after imposing martial law across the south of the country, he said they were allowed to rape up to three women.
This was the second rape joke Rodrigo Duterte has been condemned for making since announcing his candidacy.
A human rights group said his comment was "sickening" and Chelsea Clinton tweeted that rape was never funny.
Mr Duterte's words were: "I will be imprisoned for you. If you rape three (women), I will say that I did it. But if you marry four, son of a whore you will be beaten up. http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-asia-40 ... ting-story

I recall a video wherein Maj Gen Bakshi suggests to Doval that India create some kind of buddhist religious tourism with Japan, which can be extended to other applicable SE Asian countries. Doval said it was already underway, but nothing is seen after that. It's good to have allies for a common cause.

Govt is struggling with the situation ... no clear target, lots of roving terror groups , lot of civilians mixed up ... its a tough mess to sort out once you lose control

Wow - Duterte just confirmed that AFG suffered heavy casualties in Marawi, as opposite to official army and media claims.

Wow!
Some nation state is arming these guys to wreak mayhem there, under the ISIS umbrella.
Maybe China, keeping these nations busy, so that they can concentrate on occupying SCS?
Af-Pak will need to be the training base perhaps
