Some solutions are actually simple, such as sun-dried tomatoes which can ease farmers burden of low prices and help reduce inflation in during rains. I think we, especially middle classes, whine too much about food.

What is the availability, and prevalence of usage among middle class households, of canned tomatoes (chopped or paste) in India today?

During my bachelor days in the US, I found them to be convenient and cost-effective for all my Indian cooking.

In India packaged food is expensive compared to what's available on the street. One reason is street shops are temporary and no overhead of maintaining the shop.
Also most people view package food to have preservatives and prefer fresh.

Fresh vegetables lose their nutritional values in the time they reach the vegetable vendor. Canned vegetables are processed within a day of being cut and so their nutrients are preserved. Generally, canned vegetables are more expensive because of processing and packaging.
Indians have had little or poor experience with canned vegetables and fruits so far.

Canning helps the farmers by giving them an industrial customer, who pays on time and at contracted rates. It provides the consumer with year round availability at a steady rate.

Government should encourage canning industry.

The monsoon is doing fine now.

Cumulative monsoon rainfall this year is now equal to the long-term average and may rurpass it next week:

https://mausam.imd.gov.in/imd_latest/co ... series.php

Regional cumulatives have mostly caught up with long-term average...except the south is still catching up.

https://mausam.imd.gov.in/imd_latest/co ... eneous.php

In case of the south, that does not mean there is a drought...the south total rainfall is dominated by the torrential rainfall over the west coast, with the interior "deccan" areas getting much less under normal conditions. Even if that coastal rainfall drops by a 100 mm or more, it is still very heavy rainfall but obviously affects the total.

And the national map:

https://mausam.imd.gov.in/imd_latest/co ... tivity.php

The "anomaly" map can make it look like the situation is dire in some parts, but the actual amount of rainfall is now quite adequate in most parts.

India is very different from USA folks. We cannot map 1:1. Oranges are shipped cross-country in USA just so that logistics industry can be sustained  Indians still cook at home mostly with fresh ingredients. Food outside is mostly cheap from local produce and very low overhead. All the restaurants you see in cities is very low % and does not map to majority of the population. So investing in large scale canning and cold storage will need lot of govt support/subsidy.

Electronics giant #Foxconn to apply SEPARATELY to set up semiconductor manufacturing unit in Bharat after exiting J/V with Vedanta...to take advantage of PLI offered by #ModiGovt under its semiconductor manufacturing policy.

Foxconn is aggressively planning to enter Bharat's semiconductor market by collaborating with International Partners

Yeah, they both tried to get 28nm chip technology, but failed.

Where as Vedanta got 40nm chip tech, I guess Vedanta wanted to keep it for themselves and thus their plans of JV failed.

4-5 lines would be along the lines of 4-5 billion usd.. they would have access to tech from their many industrial partners given that their base expertise. Also they could leverage on the government promotions running into as many billions and support. All that in a booming market of the future with an early mover advantage.

I do expect other players to make a run once Foxcon gets its act in place.. tbh no savy tech company would want to hedge their interests in europe or even the US.. India is just a juicy fruit hanging right within reach. All the stars are aligning towards India

This page shows process node of 5 NM and 2.1 NM.

This appears to be competitive with ASML.

Canon also has 5 nm machine.

Tokyo Electron Limited has a 10 nm node.

The Japanese are either on the leading edge. Or are very close to it.

I believe the 2nm and 5nm capability they are talking is for subsystems of a lithographic machine . AFAIK, ASML is the only company that has EUV light source. But ASML uses subsystems, say for etching, from other companies to build their complete machine. I guess the above products fall into those categories. About 1.5 to 2 years ago, Japanese DUV lithographic machines were at 40nm process node. They are probably at 28 nm or may be 20nm now.

From wiki https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Extreme_u ... ithography
Intel, Canon and Nikon (leaders in the field at the time), as well as ASML and Silicon Valley Group (SVG) all sought licensing, however Congress denied Japanese companies the necessary permission as they were perceived as strong technical competitors at the time, and should not benefit from taxpayer-funded research at the expense of American companies.[9] In 2001 SVG was acquired by ASML, leaving only a single company as the sole benefactor of the critical technology.[10]
By 2018 Dutch company ASML succeeded in deploying the EUV-LLC IP after several decades of developmental research, with incorporation of European-funded EUCLIDES (Extreme UV Concept Lithography Development System) and long-standing partner German optics manufacturer ZEISS and synchrotron light source supplier Oxford Instruments.
Because it is such a key technology for development in many fields, the United States licenser pressured Dutch authorities to not sell these machines to China. ASML has followed the guidelines of Dutch export controls and until further notice, will have no authority to ship the machines to China.[13]
The white countries collectively deny technology to even honorary white countries like Japan. And this is how US keeps a tight leash on the 'me too superpower' white countries by throwing crumbs like allowing one or two world leading companies to emerge in those countries.

Nikon and Canon were the original technology leaders in microlithography but struggled to make a uvmicro machine. Somehow ASML, which spun out of Phillips Semiconductors in the Netherlands managed to produce a costeffective machine and has become the leading edge supplier but the Japanese a still competitive . Now the Chinese are putting in the effort, spurred on by the US boycott. This iares will have new suppliers coming soon. The US of course were once leadres in the field and I believe Lam Research is their leasing company but they may also revive their industry.
