All three services do take a keen interest in the food they serve to their men and women. As the well known saying goes, "An Army marches on its stomach."
The Navy just takes it to a whole other level though. Admirals of yesteryear set that tradition in the RIN, which is followed in the IN till today. A happy, well fed sailor is a sailor who can concentrate on his/her job. Tradition states that the senior most officer on the ship first tastes the food, before it is served to the rest of his men/women. Nutrition is also key here. Food made with love & care will always be remembered, as in my case over a simple cup of chai. And submarine food is even better. Nothing unites people more than food.
I have never tasted Army food, but I have read some sordid stories. But I do not believe it is a systemic issue. Akshay Sir can provide more insights into Army food.
And navy folks always remind (ribbing) their army counterparts, that no matter where they have served (Siachen, Ladakh, Rajasthan, etc)....it is nothing more than only shore duty
Running back into my foxhole, before Akshay Sir takes me out with his sniper rifle!
