Actually pakistan army is also petrified that these steps and conditional freedom of movement based upon good civic behaviour could actually be such a success that it could take the wind out of azadi stone pelters and make them a social misfit instead of the widely revered heroes they were until the other day.
I have a different view on KM society. What I have observed is that these people are of tribal mentality. Which means their day begins with how to feed the family and get through the basic needs of living. As oppose to Modi's assertions I do not see them 'aspirational'. May be 10% of them truly are aspirational which can be equated to similar aspirations of hindus. But majority look different. They are poor (in comparison to rest of India) but they are not hungry. Food is aplenty in Kashmir. These tribals' basic needs like education, healthcare, clothes also being taken care of and those don't cost them huge money which could have fuelled aspiration. And since these needs are fulfilled they have plenty of time in their hand for all their other hobbies like stone pelting etc to earn surplus money. Brining them back in the mainstream will be tricky.

Also, aspiration comes from competitiveness. If the entire homogenous society of KM is not competitive then there is no peer pressure within families to push their kids for greater success. This competitiveness is extermely important for the feeling of 'aspiration'. I don't see a sign of that in majority of KM in last 2 decades when rest of the India was growing fast. There was no inner push from these tribal youths to be a part of the success.

In nuteshell -
1) It is difficult to fuel aspiration in tribal society
2) You can't scare them. Tribals usually don't respond well to threats. Take example of naxal infested tribal areas.
3) You can't bribe them because their need is limited. You can only bribe an aspirational society with goodies.
4) You can't bribe them with education and job, because that doesn't fit in their need. Very small % will come with you but a large will remain uninterested
5) You can brainwash them slowly since they have empty mind and plenty of time in hand. But these guys already are brainwashed by our enemy. Now it would be mountainous job to make them unlearn the brainwashing.
6) It is difficult to convince them to be a part of larger group when they identify themselves as 'differnt race' from mainland people.

Is there a case study in the world where brainwashed tribal society like KM is assimilated in mainstream over the time?

Education, job will definitely bring small portion of them in mainstream but my worry remains for the KM society as a whole.
The situation in J&K cannot be worse than what it was before. They may be stupid. But how long they want to remain stupid is need to be seen. The choice is in their hands now. AS will now implement all the options one by one starting from Sama, Dana, Bheda etc. Every one knows what the last option is...

The myths they have imagined as facts are now proved to be myths. There is no hope of any reversal of the old days. It is a new world now. They will have rights and obligations just like anyone else. Soon after the delimitation of seats their power and grip will be truly diminished in any administration irrespective of the permutations and combinations of the parties.

This government has solid power for next five years and has an iron will and they know it. As UT the power is limited. So there is no real hope. When there is no hope they have to fall in line.

You can change a small % but you cannot change them all. So the only solution I could think of is make them irrelevant irrespective of whether they change or not. One way of making them irrelevant is change demography over a period. Which is exactly what they and pak are afraid of.

there is a Lal Singh article that I read on Kashmir, seems like the entire land comprising J&K was more or less following a standard pattern of invasion, occupation, plunder, taxation, decay and this repeated over various invaders like mughals, afghans, sikhs, dogra. This was repeated on smaller scale during regimes of abdullahs, muftis.

this agitation thing is not new for kashmiris, they have been agitating against something or anything for two centuries atleast. Need to get them out of the agitation comfort zone.

Sachin, The discriminatory laws were brought in by Maharaja at the behest of mostly Dogra community who were worried about influx of Punjabis. As long as it did not hurt, everyone was happy with exclusivity. Kashmiri Pandits were too poor and minuscule to have played any significant role in the framing or demanding of the laws though there might exist few of Babus who were drunk with kool aid. The fact that most of the people all throught J&K were conservatives and women would be married only within community, These laws did not hurt many on the ground nor people had vision to see the implications of such laws.

Before 1947, there was no GoI throwing in money into J&K so question of privileged status would not have even come up.

Sirji,

with the exception of reliance, there may not be too many refineries in India or even in this region with the capability to process the iranian crude and still turn some reasonable profit.

The saudis might not be too happy with reliance using iranian crude as opposed to their own saudi crude. With approx 15 % ownership and seats on the reliance board, they may be able to have their way and say provided they are willing to supply their own saudi crude at "competitive" prices.

AFAIK, the refining margins on iranian crude is quite high for reliance, resulting from both the modern plant & machinery as well as efficiencies achieved by reliance, especially as iranian crude may be available at a discount to reliance due to the refining complexities involved and lesser takers for such crude as compared to sweet crude available from the gulf for which a majority of refining plants are traditionally setup.

Lal Singh might not be accurate because J&K was never a single entity till Sikhs barged in and later local Raja from Jammu, Gulab Singh bought Kashmir and later won Ladakh. Jammu or Ladakh hardly existed as strategic or desired real estate for most part of the history.
Route to Kashmir was via Poonch Still known as Old Mughal road. What Kashmiris were good at was playing one power against another.

IMO Kashmiris were more like Punjabis. Any invader could just walk in and rule over them irrespective of who was the ruler. Afghan, Turks, Mughals, Sikhs and finally Dogra. Only people who never invaded Kashmir were Maratha.
There were hardly any mutinies or agitations going on. This is a recent phenomenon never seen in Kashmir before that.

Saudis investing in Reliance is a outstanding win-win for everyone involved at could not have come at a better time for NaMo sarkar.

Saudis win by getting access to Indian market and have a say in how India's most powerful Refinery+Petrochemicals group sources and runs. This also gets them into the high margin value added downstream businesses that can turn a profit regardless of price of crude.

For Reliance, this is a golden opportunity to pivot towards making RIL a new age business with higher weightage in telecom and retail and conquer those markets without adding more pressure on their leveraged balance sheet.

For India, this provides the best Saudi financed insurance to protect Jamnagar from any Paki mischief. Jamnagar is one of the closest major industrial complex from Pakistani border. Pakis will not even dare to piss in that direction now. This may also reduce any lobbying by Reliance when LoC gets hot, alleviating some pressure on the govt. Whatever air defence assets meant for Jamnagar can now be repurposed to protecting Delhi, Amritsar, Ludiana, Surat, Ahmedabad, etc.

Secondly, from a timing perspective, since this deal should be approved by GoI, Umma will be friendlier to NaMo sarkar and ignore Beggistan's pleadings on J&K.

Pls help decode this tweet! The real question to ask about Shah Faesal’s detention is this: he was put under house arrest a day after the abrogation of Article 370. When was he released, when did he reach Delhi, who facilitated his stay in Delhi? If you figure this out you figure out Kashmir. https://twitter.com/rahulpandita/status ... 14400?s=21

The only answer I can see (since the person who posted the tweet did not answer his own pooch) is that Shah Faesal is a Raa agint. Like Mehbooba and Omar and Farooq. Q.E.D. (Qaid-e-Duh!) From his performance, it should be clear that Dimran is also a raa agint. And so is Shrilleen. And Maleeha has always been a raa agint.

need to take care of such traitors by sacking them and their backers forthwith.

Secret internet access to separatist leader Geelani in Kashmir, BSNL suspends 2 employees

The BSNL administration had reportedly sacked two of its employees after it was revealed that they had played a pivotal role in granting an Internet link to separatist leader Syed Ali Shah Geelani during the communication blackout enforced by the government in Jammu and Kashmir.

As per the reports, it came to the notice of authorities that Geelani had access both landline and broadband after the Hurriyat leader was found using social media to spread misinformation.

— TIMES NOW (@TimesNow) August 19, 2019

In the aftermath of the abrogation of Article 370, a communication clampdown was instituted by the government to prevent the state from sliding into chaos. Kashmiri politicians such as Omar Abdullah, Mehbooba Mufti were put under house arrest and held incommunicado but it was later found that Geelani had internet access till August 8.

Investigations are underway to determine how Geelani was able to access the Internet while the communication links were snapped throughout the Valley. BSNL has plugged in the loopholes in the department and suspended 2 officers responsible for providing Internet access to the separatist leader.

Second that. I did not know he was an Eagle too...more than enough to cancel out the likes of the Owaisi bros. Along with many Eagles our alma mater did turn out a few "Ulle ke Patthe" too :D
Heh heh, Some indeed are obnoxious beyond belief, but thankfully the rest make up for them. Didn't realize you too are an Eagle. Good to know.

I will go with the premise that he was never under house arrest. He was probably never considered a person of any kind of interest; except he loves to draw attention to himself like the other overachiever now running Delhi. But he was probably on some kind of exit control list which prevented his departure from India (easy to say that his answers didn't convince immigration authorities kind of argument). Maybe he licked some honey from the J&K bank pot. So he finds himself in the crack between people who matter and those who are stupid and get caught.

Or of course he could be a Raa double agint kept back for his own safety.

I think they are referring to the fact that he tried to make his escape after an interview with Barkha Dutt, so she may have had a role in transporting him etc.

Listen to the whole clip, not just one sentence.

I interpret it that Namgyal is very happy that Ladakh has emerged out of the shadow of Kashmir and Jammu, and is discussed as a different entity. He is very clear that Ladakh is a part of India indivisible, and how it is governed is an internal matter of India.

He is very clear in this interview that he has nothing against Kashmir. It is just that Ladakhis are different.

I see Namgyal as a future Raksha Mantri.

Cases of serious breaches of operational information have come across: Gen Bipin Rawat

Speaking at a seminar of retiring officers in Delhi, the Army Chief cautioned officers and jawans to exercise most stringent security protocols to avoid breaches in cyber and information operations. In the last few weeks, several Pakistani agents have used the pictures of Indian Army officers from social media and used it for their advantage in information warfare, he said.

In a major breakthrough to identify rumour mongers bent upon creating trouble, Jammu and Kashmir and central intelligence agencies claim to have identified activists and sympathizers of mainstream political parties with separatist tendencies.

In a textbook case of politics making strange bedfellows, intelligence agencies maintain that some mainstream political parties and separatists have found a common cause to work against the restoration of peace in the state.

"Rumours spread like wildfire in Jammu yesterday (Sunday) claiming that a communal flare-up had taken place in Surankote in Rajouri district," a senior intelligence officer said.

"The rumour was well orchestrated. It caused panic in Jammu where people mobbed petrol pumps and provision stores fearing an impending curfew. The administration had a tough time convincing people that the rumour was baseless. We have identified the activists and sympathisers of one mainstream political party in Jammu who were spreading these rumours," the officer said.

The officer said those behind such rumours .. belonged to three mainstream political parties whose top leadership had been taken into preventive custody ...

J&K Home Secretary Shaleen Kabra said, "A fake news is being spread that weapons of special police officers of J&K police are being seized. This is purely a rumour being spread by vested interests. It is categorically denied."

Shaleen Kabra also said, "Public at large is further advised not to believe in such rumours/ baseless news and not to further spread such news without verifying from authentic sources."

China-Britain Bid To Embarrass Us On J&K Needs An Effective Counter
At the closed-door meeting of the United Nation Security Council last week, China and Britain are supposed to have backed the idea of issuing a statement critical of India’s actions in Jammu & Kashmir. Russia sat on the fence, and only the US and France opposed the Chinese move to embarrass India.

Even if an adverse statement had been made, it would have made no immediate difference to India, but it would certainly have emboldened Pakistan to continue to ratchet up its jihadi activities, and separatists in Kashmir Valley would have been encouraged to up the violence.

This kind of line-up against India should serve as a wake-up call for our diplomats. While Britain is a puny superpower that must be swatted down ruthlessly, the Chinese need to be dealt with silently and firmly, and the Russians bought off with promises of more defence and other business deals.

If the unfriendly actions of our enemies and friends have no consequences, it means India can only bark but not bite. This is not how a future major power should behave.

The first country that needs a dressing down is Britain. It is clear that Britain’s colonial obsession with separatist politics in the subcontinent, and its own domestic political need to pander to a growing Muslim population, are driving this anti-India action. But in a post-Brexit Britain, India has far more levers available to it than before. Jaguar Land Rover and Tata Steel are among Britain’s biggest manufacturing employers.

As far as the Indian government itself is concerned, apart from Britain’s help in extraditing Vijay Mallya, there is nothing to lose from any downtrend in the political relationship.

Clearly, Narendra Modi and his External Affairs Minister, S Jaishankar, should quietly inform the Brits that any further anti-India moves involving Kashmir will face negative economic consequences. Britain needs India more than the other way around.

In the case of China, too, there must be consequences for its deliberate effort to embarrass India by taking the Kashmir issue to the UN Security Council – albeit behind closed doors. While one should avoid any verbal fisticuffs in public – the Chinese may react badly to that – India should point out quietly that China itself is in occupation of Indian territory seized in the 1962 war (Aksai Chin), not to speak of the J&K slice that Pakistan handed over to it in the 1960s.

India silently let Tibet slip away as an issue that can be raked up, but expressing concern over Indians in Hong Kong – as former foreign secretary Kanwal Sibal suggested in an Economic Times column – and upping the ante on Huawei’s participation in 5G trials and the huge trade deficit are pressure points to apply with China.

China’s move to get the UN Security Council is not just an irritant, but a deliberate provocation, and hence cannot be ignored. We need to make this clear to the Chinese in private, and if they will continue to do this kind of thing, we should go public with statements that irritate them.

The Chinese economy is already feeling the impact of the Donald Trump-initiated trade war, and they may not want to risk losing their huge trade surplus with India (over $53 billion in 2018-19) by continuing to provoke us. We can also quietly upgrade our ties with Taiwan, something the Chinese will not fail to notice.

The worst thing to do with a global bully is to not stand up to it.

As for Russia, clearly it is worried by the Indian moves towards the US, especially in the area of defence purchases. Here, India will have to play a delicate balancing act, and make sure that Russia remains on India’s side even as we spread our defence purchases to other suppliers.

Maybe, a greater role of Russia in defence manufacturing inside India would be useful, since it may not focus on high-profile purchases of military hardware. But Russia is clearly a key player in the global power game we cannot afford to antagonise.

An India that wants to shift from soft power to hard power needs to start playing the power game by showing that it can give as good as it gets.

As an example of the largesse of parties like the PDP towards separatists, the police officer cites the case of summons issued earlier by the National Investigation Agency to some separatist leaders. “They took it so lightly and wouldn’t even honour these,” he says. “They thought their political masters will save them. But now once they receive them, they piss in their pants.”

^^ If I'm not mistaken, that picture has been taken at the exact same spot where the CRPF bus was blown in Pulwama.

Suvir Kaul is the spouse (partner? butt-boy?) of another U Penn Engliss Brofessor named Ania Loomba.

You may remember Ania Loomba from the 2013 incident when Narendra Modi was invited to speak at Wharton (U Penn Business School) and she, along with some other imbecile Toorjo Ghosh, led a shrill charge to protest against Wharton for inviting a Hindootva Fascist speaker etc. Ultimately Wharton caved and canceled the event.

Both these critters are very much representative of India-born "Social-Sciences/Humanities" dregs who are allowed to crawl up the rectum of American academia and find a warm smelly home there as long as they do the bidding of Berkeley-Haas, FOIL, FOSA, University of Chicago and the entire Hinduphobic cabal on demand. Slugs of the same slippery mantle as Angana Chatterji, Pankaj Misra and all the rest. Today is Suvir Kaul's turn because he can leverage his "Kashmiriyat" for supposed credibility.

I honestly doubt Suvir Kaul sees himself as a "Hindu" (except, in the sense that Nehru did... "Hindu by accident of birth".) I have no doubt however that he owns plenty of property in KV, thanks to his capacity to serve the Hurriyat, Ghulam Nabi Fai, and other worthies as a useful idiot embedded in Western academia.

Oh! Mr. Loomba? My sympathies for the turd. It's not a lifafa interview: it's gunpoint. Or rolling-pin point.

LOOK at this school in J&K

Now compare with schools in, say, Tamil Nadu or Keralam: The best in the nation in actual education as opposed to stone-throwing and goat-buggering:

India has been giving Kashmiris infrastructure better than the best in the world, while starving the productive states. Enough.

Guys, I want to share my encounter with this SoB Suvir Kaul. Several years ago, I went to a liberal arts college in PA called Swathmore college. And the topic was you guessed it, Kashmir and 'nuke flashpoint'. Speaker after speaker puked the usual bile. Then there were sob stories of KMs narrating 'torture' of their friends by Indian army. I was aghast. And all of this anti-India hate was being choreographed by one gora journalism prof as 'affected people telling their stories'. Yeah, this is US style journalism 101, when your interests are not at stake, then liberal pomposity on full throttle. Anyway, through this India gang bang, I was sitting by with my BP rising with each speaker's poison. And like an idiot, and believe me it takes guts for someone to express a contrarian opinion in the midst of that mob. I raised my hand and asked what about Pandits, and Islamic extremism, and Paki terror. And when the speaker rubbished me and continued with Indian army 'torture', I pressed her, and boy the mob pelted me with verbal equivalent of stones, and asked me to shut up.

Anyway, post all the talks, there was a reception, where I interacted with this prick Suvir Kaul, one ex Indian army officer (if I recall, also a Kashmiri Hindu whose wife is some cuisine expert), and another U Penn prof. And when they saw me, they mocked me as "The RSS guy in the audience". I confronted that b@stard Suvir when he was berating BJP with choicest of expletives. The ex Indian army arse-hole was mocking his own army saying they cannot take on TSPA and should accept MushRat's offer of p!ss instead of expressing extremist views. I fought back, in particular with Suvir b@stard. And the kicker was when I told him that his views are quintessentially Paki, At which point, I was asked to leave. And BTW, I also interacted with a KM and Paki (can't tell the difference, both TFTA) with the same vile views, and boy were they revolted at the sight of me with my SDRE looks claiming Kashmir as part of India.

It was after that meeting that I came away with the kind of TFTA hate that many KMs have, and how some Kashmiri Hindus are poison: a combination of Stockholm syndrome and colonial disease. Prime examples are this Suvir Kaul dik head, that blood traitor, former Air vice Marshal Kapil Kak, or that disgusting creep of a human being Anurdha Bhasin etc. Ack Thoo. These people are beneath contempt.

^If you think about it, who are these pakis and KMs, but people who gave up and surrendered to the Islamic hordes? They are weak and cowardly. That someone shorter and darker than them is still Hindu is a slap in their metaphorical face, a reminder of how the only thing they were truly lacking (rather than brawn or fair skin) was courage, fortitude, and conviction. If others could fight and survive, what excuse do they have for caving in? This is what truly drives pakis to hate Hindus with venom they do (same for the local traitors). When someone told them to bend over, they DID and they hate themselves for that and therefore they hate the sight of anyone who DID NOT as well.

This has been a problem through out.. If the Union of India continues to treat KMs as especial people, the thought process, the resentment will continue. Nothing new should be provided there unless there are compromises from the KM community as well.

Partially agree but we can't blame them completely. The folks on the "other side" made it extremely hard for them and excommunicated them at the smallest excuse. A short sighted Orthodoxy that shot itself in the foot.

So on one side they were confronted by Jiziya which choked upward mobility and on the other side by a hide bound, retarded orthodoxy lacking innovation and ant instruments for accommodation. This also contributed to the chain of loathing for the Indic side.

Take the case of Jinnah whose family started as crypto hindus or Alauddin khan (Sarod player) a Kali worshipper whose kids became a shade more Muslim.

I sense an increasing trickle towards indocentric thinking from the "other khanda" of khanda-Bharat.

Even the morons there may find solace some day by joining the Sonia congress !
