Deepika Kumari, Amit Panghal, Shooting team, Bajrang and Vinesh didn't justify their billing for whatever reason.

However, as a nation our target should be on creating more alternatives than just to blame these individual fellows.

Having two world class(top 10) contenders competing in each area is a sure shot guarantee of winning at least one medal even if one wilts under Olympic pressure. It is the peer pressure that brings out the best performer in big occasions.

All superlative teams have followed this formula to win consistently and we are pretty close to reach there.

That's my question as well, what happened to our cycling team? Even the participation would have been good experience.

Our track cycling prodigies are still at the threshold of junior/senior level and I’ve never seen it mentioned that they’d target Tokyo - it’s always been about Paris 2024 when they’d all be 23-24 , which is early peak cycling life. Tour de France classifies U23 as junior . Esow is either 19 or 20 right now. Current TdF champ Pogacar is 22 and he’s a once in a generation freak of nature - most of the pro peloton are 5-10 years his senior .

T1 = Tied (1st position)
Birdie = Finished the job with one shot to spare(good)
Eagle = Finished the job with two shots to spare(very good)
Bogie = took one shot more (bad)
Double bogie = took 2 more shots to finish(very bad)

Noob question. What happens now that play has been stopped and Aditi is tied at 3rd place? Bronze medal confirm or still more game to be played?

If rain stops play today, it will continue tomorrow which is a reserve day.
If rain stops today & tomorrow's play, only first 3 rounds are considered in which case Aditi will win Silver.
If game continues today or tomorrow, unless something dramatic happens, Aditi may end up at number 4 although she is at number 3 right now.
If she is tied on number 3 after 18 holes, there will be a play off/sudden death to determine the winner. There won't be any shared bronze.

A world no 200 finishing forth is not bad. But yes, it was so close; just 1 shot difference between her and the bronze winner.

From the reaction of the other 3 top competitors, she was an absolute nobody to them before this. They are regular in the circuit among the tops. Hope she does not peak here.

Sure it's 'not bad' but 4th and 2nd places are the most excruciating positions to finish in. I'm sure she knows that more than anyone too, and will be haunted by it.

I am amazed by the way indian media is reporting about our Olympic dreams. Great. Both players and private promoters are praised with enthusiasm. I am sure that more and more kids will be inspired. I wish we have talent hunters like Italians have for Footbal. I am not depressed anymore about our future in sports. Media is doing right thing for once. Just great.
Would love yo see Indian gymnasts and swimmer. Stamina.....have you seen rickshaw pullers in India? Want to see Indian cycling team. We need little little spark.i wish we sports programs on Indian TV on regular bases on the line of bollywood singing competition.

She improved a lot from the last Olympics. So I think she will continue improving.

This is exactly what we need
Atleast some of the bigger states take onus to support one sport and build facilities and sponsor that will go along way.
For example Haryana to build facilities for Wrestling

The example is already set. He had not sought permission, nor had he asked for "aid" to sponsor the teams. It was all money, land, other resources from the state of orissa.

Breaking: Rajiv Gandhi Khel Ratna award is renamed after Major Dhyan Chand! Not a moment too soon.

The country’s top sports award should be appropriately named after the country’s first Olympian hero.

Well done @narendramodi !

Hope Cong too embraces this!

Before bollywood races to a biopic for Neeraj Chopra, just wanted to say that he is better looking than a lot of Bollywood heros so you need to pick well. Just saying, because I can see the tired faces racing to make a movie.

Bollywood will ruin it. Along with the paki athlete, they will definitely spin the Aman ka tamasha story. I hope a documentary is made about Neeraj, it will be better than anything bollywood can make.

We need to let him and all our athletes focus on Paris olympics - just 3 years away. No time to waste beyond well deserved celebrations. We clearly have the potetntial to double our medals tally in Paris given the number of QF, SF finishes, medal wins and some unfortunate misses in Tokyo !
