PESHAWAR: An attack on a member of the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Assembly Malik Liaqat Ali in Lower Dir and attacks on police in Matta and other parts of Swat are a matter of serious concern for the government and the law-enforcement agencies.
After trouble was witnessed in many southern districts and some towns in central Khyber Pakhtunkhwa in the last months, things have started deteriorating in the north where peace had been greatly restored and tourism had started to flourish in recent years.
“There were 186 incidents reported in North Waziristan from 2019 till June 2022. If compared with any other merged district, the number of such incidents was 56 in South Waziristan, nine each in Orakzai and Kurram, 16 in Mohmand, 12 in Khyber and 61 in Bajaur since 2019,” a source informed.
Policemen and personnel of other law-enforcement agencies continued to come under attack in many southern districts, which speaks volumes about the deteriorating law and order.
As per the official statistics, attacks on police in KP during the current year has already surpassed the number of cops martyred in any entire year since 2016.
As many as 63 cops were martyred in target killings and other attacks during the first seven months.
Compared with recent years, 36 policemen fell victim to various attacks in the entire year in 2017, 30 in 2018, 38 in 2019, 28 in 2020 and 59 in 2021.
Apart from target killings by the armed attackers, a number of police stations, posts and vans have been attacked with grenades in the last several months.
The offices of superintendent of Police Saddar in Peshawar, as well as DSP Badaber, have also come under grenade attacks in recent months.

Of the ten army chiefs the country has had since 1972, five were appointed by the incumbent’s elder brother, Mian Nawaz Sharif, in separate tenures as prime minister. The elder Sharif was repeatedly criticised for appointing officers he saw as an ‘apna banda’ (his man). Ironically, none of the appointments worked out very well for him.
The experience has reportedly left the Sharifs with the belief that they will never quite get it right. Some PML-N leaders said in background interviews that they have, therefore, more or less decided that instead of succumbing to the temptation of finding an ‘ideal’ candidate, they will make the appointment based on seniority alone.

Islamabad police have arrested four men for harassing women at Shakarparian Hills — a park in the capital — on Independence Day (August 14), it emerged on Tuesday.
The arrest comes after a video of the incident was widely shared on social media, in which two women, who appeared to be foreign tourists, were seen encircled by men and trying to make their way out of the crowd.
The men could be heard passing comments, apparently directed at the women, and asking each other to move aside. Some men could also be seen filming the women using their mobile phones.
A Finance Ministry report to mark the country’s 75th Independence Day anniversary also noted that the country had almost no industrial base at independence, receiving only 34 of 921 industrial units active in the British Raj. Other hurdles, such as Delhi’s refusal to give Pakistan its pre-apportioned share of united India’s cash and other resources, accommodating millions of refugees at independence, and the impact of the East Pakistan War and the eventual birth of Bangladesh in 1971 are also mentioned.
Food security, for example, was a massive issue at independence due to farmers migrating and changing agricultural needs as Pakistan and India were no longer a shared market. Today, 75 years later, the country is still very much food insecure. In fact, we are now importing several agricultural commodities for which we used to be net exporters at various points in our history. Meanwhile, even though our levels of industrialisation may appear impressive in a vacuum, we only need to recall the famous anecdotes of how officials from then-struggling countries such as South Korea and other now-developed countries used to come here in the 1960s to learn from our economic reforms to understand how much we lost our way since then.
And while Tarbela Dam is considered a true marvel of engineering around the world, Mangla remains the only large dam built in the country’s history, with the much smaller Gomal Zam and Hub dams being the next biggest operational water reservoirs. While climate change does factor into the equation, Pakistan’s failures to build enough dams and improve water availability have made it one of the world’s most water-stressed countries.
As for taking pride in becoming one of the world’s largest economies, this is only because of our unmanageable population growth. Our GDP-per-capita is actually among the lowest in the world. Per capita GDP for the world has grown over 30-fold since the 1950s, which means we actually trail the world. For this, all of our leaders since independence should hang their heads in shame.

After 80 Pakistanis were deported from the United Arab Emirates (UAE) for having dummy return tickets and other reasons, the Pakistani consulate in Dubai has informed Islamabad that Pakistanis visiting Dubai should have a valid work visa, 5,000 dirhams and a return ticket with them while travelling to the UAE.
The UAE authorities said that all of them should be holding valid return tickets and should be having a minimum amount of AED 5,000 in cash.

Imrans chief of staff who was arrested few days ago was brutally tortured in prison. Pics showing his naked behind with signs of fauji dandas all over. Plus verified claims by many that he was hung upside down and shown real love.
The guy was real mard -e-mujahid with full bluster few days ago but now can be seen crying on the wheelchair outside court like a true Pakjab with all Karnti gone onlee. His other accomplices have left Pakistan.

Absolutely, it has well documented (what better cohort for such research than Pakis ) not just in Pakistan but among British Pakis as well. Apart from mental issues it causes a whole lot of other diseases and genetic defects.
The British citizens of the Pakistani origin account for a mere 3.4 percent of all births in the UK, yet they account for 30 percent of the children born with recessive gene disorders.

Apparently Shahbaz Gill told in an interview on TV that low level TFTAs should ignore illegal orders of high level Jernails and Kernails and support Dimran. Essentially he was inciting mutiny.
The TFTAs then mobilized their judges and bolis, took their danda and gave him a thrashing.

The popular cable channel where he spoke, ARY News, has been forced off the air, and two of its news anchors have fled the country. Other journalists say they have been harassed and threatened.
The crackdown has come at a contentious and uncertain moment for the country and its leaders. Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, who took office in April, has made little progress in addressing the dire economic crisis that sent consumer prices skyrocketing. Khan, by contrast, has gained momentum in local elections and continues to lead large, boisterous rallies where he castigates the government.

PTI chief Imran Khan moved the Islamabad High Court on Monday for party seeking pre-arrest bail after he was booked in a terrorism case for “threatening” a female judge and senior police officers in a public rally.
The ex-prime minister was booked under Section 7 of the Anti-Terrorism Act (punishment for acts of terrorism) regarding his comments at his Islamabad rally on Saturday.
The petition filed today, a copy of which is available with Dawn.com, stated that Imran was a “target of the ruling PDM (Pakistan Democratic Movement) for his fearless criticism and extremely bold and blunt stance against corruption and corrupt politicians”.
“And to achieve this malicious agenda, acting in a most unfortunate and clumsy manner, a false and frivolous complaint has been registered against him by the Islamabad Capital Territory (ICT) police at the behest of the incumbent government,” it added.
The plea further alleged that the government had decided to “cross all limits” to arrest Imran “under false accusations” and was “hell-bent to sort out the petitioner and his party at all costs”.

May be its time for India to lob(test some missiles) on some air force resources as retaliation for attempted fedayeen attacks.

Pakistan’s media watchdog, Pakistan Electronic Media Regulatory Authority (PEMRA) has debarred broadcasting live speeches of former Prime Minister Imran Khan on all satellite television channels with direct effect. The decision came hours after he threatened state institutions and government officials while giving a speech at a rally in Islamabad.
Khan, while addressing a public gathering on Saturday, threatened to register cases against top police officials, a woman magistrate, the Election Commission of Pakistan, and political opponents over the improper behavior of his aide Shahbaz Gill, who was detained last week on charges of sedition.
PEMRA in a communiqué released on Saturday announced that television channels even after continuous warnings had abortive to implement a time-delay method to control the broadcast of material against “state institutions”.
“It has been observed that Mr. Imran Khan, Chairman Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf, in his speeches/statements is continuously alleging state institutions by leveling baseless allegations and spreading hate speech through his provocative statements against state institutions and officers which is prejudicial to the maintenance of law and order and is likely to disturb public peace and tranquility,” communiqué mentioned.
The regulator underlined that Khan’s speeches were in violation of Article 19 of the Constitution and overrule the code of conduct for the media.
“The competent authority i.e. Chairman PEMRA in view of the above-mentioned background and reasons, in the exercise of delegated powers of the authority vested in Section 27(a) of the PEMRA Ordinance 2002 as amended by PEMRA (Amendment) Act 2007, hereby prohibits the broadcast of live speech of Imran Khan on all satellite TV channels with immediate effect,” it further mentioned.
PEMRA, however, said Khan’s recorded speech would only be allowed to be aired after a successful delay mechanism to ensure monitoring and editorial control.

The first information report (FIR), a copy of which is available with Dawn.com, was registered on August 22 at the Aabpara police station under sections 109 (punishment of abetment if the Act abetted committed In consequence and where no express provision is made for its punishment), 188 (disobedience to order duly promulgated by public servant), 186 (obstructing public servant in discharge of public functions), 341 (punishment for wrongful restraint), and 506 (punishment for criminal intimidation) of the Pakistan Penal Code.
The complaint, filed by Assistant Sub Inspector (ASI) Muhammad Anwar, also included section 2 (restriction on the use of loudspeakers) of the Control of Loudspeaker and Sound Amplifiers Act, 1965.
