Two Barak-8 missiles launched from a ship where used in combat for the very first time when IDF’s INS Eilat intercepted two Hezbollah Drones in Mediterranean Sea.

Dr. V.K Saraswat: we have able to make hypersonic missile with high heat material & we tested it for Mach 6-8.
Today we could go up to 10-12 Mach. For going up to Mach 30, we need to invest more in R&D and tracking.

Is it an actual weapon?
Which UAV it is expected to be deployed from?
Because a range of 1 km is too low for the larger UAV 's.

from the image: its drone launched. range 1km. missile -> some guidance exists.
smart munition outside the range of AA guns? interesting.

Looks like a guided variant of 70mm rocket to me ...

Haridas Ji,
That is what has me stumped. Because you see the Turkish munitions have a range of 8 km and 15 km.
Whereas we are seeing a range of 1 km written on Indian munition.
If it was a smart shoulder fired missile. I could understand the application. But for this range of UAV . I don't understand.

It indicates how small/light the launch platform uav is.Pratyush wrote:Haridas Ji,

BTW it's payload is gonna be bigger than Aeroviorn SB 300 switchblade.
Turki micro munitions is for much heavier TB2.
I like this option for it allows at will adaptation to winged and quadcoptor drones. Lethal against PoL, Ammo store and command posts.

Or Dawood Bhai!
Re: Indian Missiles News & Discussions - 30 June 2022
This is what I was not seeing. Because India has in the recent past focused on small UAVs being built by pvt sector startups.Haridas wrote:

I had not been taking it seriously.
All i can say is that this weapon in the light of your explanation and Ramana's stated application is an eye opener.

Re: Indian Missiles News & Discussions - 30 June 2022
Useful even in COIN operations. A small warhead will also reduce collateral damage
Re: Indian Missiles News & Discussions - 30 June 2022
Not to mention., the mini / micro missiles are very useful in special operations !
Re: Indian Missiles News & Discussions - 30 June 2022
A missile this size could easily be repurposed for an AT4 sized launcher, coupled with a TI sight of the size used on MMG

1. Shaurya launcher was modified to carry sagarika (Almost similar missiles).
2. Same launcher was then modified to carry SMART.
3. Now with SMART ready for induction "same launcher" is getting modified to carry STAR missiles.

Which also means that SMART can also be deployed from the Arihant.

Re: Indian Missiles News & Discussions - 30 June 2022
Of all these fancy weapon systems which have been inducted?
Re: Indian Missiles News & Discussions - 30 June 2022
IIRC, Shourya was given clearance for induction in 2020.
Not sure how many have been procured till now.

Re: Indian Missiles News & Discussions - 30 June 2022
SMART & STAR are very new weapon systems. The latter is in fact a target missile, that may someday become a missile in its own right
Shourya is the only one which completed its dev trials (& that happened donkeys years ago, like in 2011). Our Armed Forces woke up post-Galwan and realized they needed a precision strike SRBM.
So, another test was conducted & there was news floating around that Shourya was to be inducted. But crazily enough, under SFC. No news after that.
If inductions are indeed happening, they are all hush-hush, though one wonders why (for a tactical conventional weapon). And what's the point in placing it under the SFC, which would constrain the IA Artillery's freedom to decide when/how to use it?
More questions than answers....

Point I was trying to make was that we salivate on all these should do and can do but the doing hardly ever happens. Where is the desi MIC and the support from the establishment.

Now imagine the situation if this drone was weaponized with a mini or micro missile ? Sitting ducks would be the better term

KLPD: climax missing!
Drone also seems to have focusing issues. Maybe stability of the platform itself

Here I was thinking that India was only going with a one km range UAV deployed missile. And there is a much longer ranged UAV deployed missile.
Sneaky.
I like it.

According to a Jane’s report in June 2018, “ According to Kumar Mishra, General Director and Managing Director of BrahMos Aerospace JV, the Russian Zircon and BrahMos-2 missiles have unified engines and all technologies in the field of the power plant, while the guidance system, software, glider and MSA are developed separately for each of the products"

AFAIK, two rounds were tested successfully from Odisha coast on February 22, 2021. It was tested once again on December 7, 2021 successfully. Another successful test was carried out on June 24, 2022 against a high-speed aerial target mimicking an aircraft.Defence Research & Development Organisation (DRDO) and Indian Navy today successfully flight tested Vertical Launch Short Range Surface-to-Air Missile (VL-SRSAM) from the Integrated Test Range (ITR), Chandipur off the coast of Odisha.
The flight test was carried out from an Indian Naval Ship against a high-speed unmanned aerial target for demonstration of vertical launch capability. The missiles, equipped with indigenous Radio Frequency seeker, intercepted the target with high accuracy.

Re: Indian Missiles News & Discussions - 30 June 2022
Glad to see VL-SRSAM progressing. High level of maturity to shoot down a live, high-speed target from a real ship.
The press-release said "missiles" intercepted the target. Its possible that they launched 2 missiles to ensure high Pk
IN is showing a lot of support for this missile. Wish the IA did the same for QRSAM and the IA/IAF for the Akash-NG

There seems to be an error in reporting. In a test setting there is no reason why you need to shoot multiple missiles to kill a target.Prem Kumar wrote:Glad to see VL-SRSAM progressing. High level of maturity to shoot down a live, high-speed target from a real ship.

Such an action acts to reduces confidence in the system.
In service, during actual combat this would be a different issue.

We have done Akash test-firing in ripple mode. Could have been done here too - to see if 2 missiles can lock on and chase down 1 target (even if only 1 destroys it)Pratyush wrote:
