India can grow fast with or without Narendra Modi - writes Reuters'
@ugalani
in this superbly balanced piece.

[Have argued with many (tweeted too perhaps) that a lot of what's happening right now is cyclical and situational. That should keep the economy growing reasonably fast for some time]
This lady Ira pushes a lie that everything will be fine whether it is Modi or not. I submitted a community note. Please rate it if you can and make it helpul)

This is pure speculation without any proper analysis. For example in 2006,Intel said India lost out on a multibillion-dollar chip plant because the government dragged its heels on introducing an investment policy on semiconductors.

the in laws are desperately trying to get some BJP bigwigs to allow safe passage to chickna. priyanka chopra has also been drafted to fight rearguard for her family's dud asset/investment.

they seem to have missed the old saying: I wyll neuer bye the pyg in the poke. Thers many a foule pyg in a feyre cloke. I will never buy the pig in the poke. The idiom is attested in 1555

chickna seems up to his neck in two major scams

National Herald Assets Worth Rs 752 Crore Attached, Rahul and Sonia Gandhi-owned YI Impacted
In a significant development in the National Herald case, the PMLA Adjudicating Authority has upheld the Enforcement Directorate's (ED) attachment of assets worth Rs 750 crore. The ED had previously attached these properties last year, and the recent decision by the authorities supports their actions. This case has been under scrutiny, with the ED initiating a money laundering investigation after the Finance Act, 2019, led to an amendment in the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA). The Congress party has been at the center of this case, with the properties in question being linked to the Congress-promoted National Herald. The recent developments have sparked discussions on the implications for the Congress party's reputation and legal standing, as well as the potential consequences for the individuals involved.

The Adjudication Authority has upheld the @dir_ed

Per a few different sources, the numbers are like this reported by Reuters (14 opposition parties put a petition before the Supreme Court regarding ED targeting, the Supreme Court essentially told them it cannot rule on a set of cases, but only on specific cases, upon which the petition was withdrawn. They had similar data. @AnandRanganathan also cited similar numbers in a recent talk of his, I think to IIT Chennai.)
The ED, the most powerful of the federal agencies, can search and arrest without warrant. It has summoned, questioned or raided nearly 150 politicians from the opposition since Modi took power in 2014, according to data compiled by Reuters based on court records, party statements and media reports. Both Gandhi and his mother have been questioned in a case relating to alleged money laundering.

In that time, four BJP politicians have been targeted by the ED, according to the data.
150:4 means either the BJP politicians are exceptionally clean** or else there is targeting. It is very hard to interpret the data in any other way.

**clean can mean not technically violating any law that renders them susceptible to investigation.

Quote from:
https://www.reuters.com/world/india/bey ... 024-03-22/

My opinion -- political parties in India have been scoff-laws for most of India's history since 1947. It took Public Interest Litigation around 1995 to get parties to obey the Income Tax laws - the Supreme Court when ruling that the IT department must aggressively enforce the rules, also noted that neither the Congress nor the BJP followed the rules. From 1996 to 2024, as far as I can tell, Congress has not gotten any closer to following the rules, which is why it has lost its tax exemption from 2016 onwards, when the Supreme Court ruled in favor of the IT department, and faces back-taxes of around 3500 crores.

Perhaps the BJP has taken care to be "clean enough" as well as is breaking the informal "agreement among thieves" or political parties to not enforce the law when in power. This is not a bad thing for the country.

Regarding how political parties should be financed, I think Indian law is quite good. Any individual or organization that is not funded by the government can donate to any political party registered with the Election Commission and the donation counts as a legitimate income tax deduction as long as the donation is not in cash.

Political parties are tax-exempt provided they file an audited income tax report with the IT department and report the donor on every contribution above Rs 20,000. (Electoral bonds were an exception to this latter rule.). Also, they cannot use the money e.g., for giving a loan to a business - it must be used for political activities only.

The key problem in India seems to be that donors are afraid of being identifiable, even when they are legitimate.

The culture needs to change that clean money identifiably given is legitimate; and it is up to the voters to decide whether a party is unduly influenced by its donors.

Who has kept Indian Muslims backward for 77 years?

Parties that preach secularism but practise communalism, segregating Muslims from the Indian mainstream to monopolise their votes.

Muslim leaders equally to blame.

^^ In reality, Muslims only need Islam. Ask any Muslim. Education, jobs, etc. are much down the priority list. "Muslim integration" is a fool's errand. Gandhi ran enough after it, to the point of applauding the slaughter of Hindus. He couldn't do it even then. No country has ever done it in history. Maintaining separateness and superiority over non-Muslims is the DNA of Islam. Can't be cured.

Merchant is totally off the mark, or doesn't have the courage to state the real problem.

The greens of Bharat have been kept backward by their own clergy/elites just like in any RoP theocratic country. The INC and other political parties have basically allowed these clergy to set up their own theocratic mini-state with Bharat by carving out bizarre exceptions from the constitution and leaving the clergy to manage their "qaum" the way the want....in return for the block vote every time an election arrives.

Essentially the green population of Bharat is little more than a flock of sheep, which can be controlled and coerced at will by the clergy who enjoy many of the same repressive instruments (including a floating population of part-time goons) that are available to, e.g. the mullahs of Iran. The block voting by greens in elections is an obvious coercive phenomenon. It is not that all greens feel alienated by the BJP, it is more that voting outside of the given instructions/fatwas/threats etc will invite dire consequences (physical, social, economic).

Election manifestos can certainly be trotted out to include well-meaning incentives for the greens, and checks off some boxes ("we are ready to provide, even if they don't want to engage").

What is actually being done (and going to be done) is to abolish and dismantle all these repressive instruments and make the clergy irrelevant.

TT and reclamation of temples are current examples, UCC/personal law system is next, then wakf, madrassa system/"educational" institutions etc. And continue the tight use of FCRA to prevent foreign money from feeding radicalism among the clergy. Meanwhile, unrelenting electoral victories for BJP are a must to show the irrelevance of the green block vote. These actions will completely demoralize, disillusion, and disabuse the green population from the system set up by the mullahs.

Once this theocratic state-within-a-state is dismantled, greens will "integrate" for sure and many will return to sanatana dharma. Already there is a quiet but large "ex-green" movement in the country.

'Either Rahul or Priyanka...': What Congress leader said about Gandhi family member contesting from Amethi, Raebareli
NEW DELHI: Will Rahul Gandhi contest Lok Sabha elections from Amethi? Will Priyanka Gandhi be fielded from the Raebareli seat vacated by Sonia Gandhi? Well, the Congress is yet to open its cards on the two prestigious seats of Uttar Pradesh, which have been represented by the Gandhi family several times.

However, on Thursday the party did confirm that one member of the Gandhi family will contest from either of the two seats - and that member will not be Robert Vadra, husband of Priyanka Gandhi, who recently made headlines with his remarks that people of Amethi expect him to represent their constituency.

Veteran Congress leader and CWC member A K Antony on Thursday said there will be one person from the Gandhi family who will contest either from Raebareli or Amethi in Uttar Pradesh, news agency IANS reported quoting a local TV channel.

When probed further if that member would be Robert Vadra, Antony shot back and said, “it would be either Rahul or Priyanka.”

Yes, it is a concern. But the bigger concern is complacency and the attitude that "we have already won". We have to be paranoid and go all out. Because we know that, while we have to win each time, they have to win only once

The spidey sense in me tells that there is something deep & subtle cooking on the INDI Alliance. They have realized that overtly, they cannot take on NDA or Modi. And Modi tries to make it a mandate about himself and wins

They are trying to counter that by making it a local issue in each constituency. All resistance is undercover. All messaging is local. Instead of a frontal-attack, its guerilla warfare. Because that's what a smart enemy would do against a superior force

And such guerilla warfare can only be subdued by subversion, lots of on-the-ground manpower, counter messaging, showcasing local understanding/local-achievements etc. Relentless battle, like the one against Maoists.

I think the complacency, in media especially, is about countering the high-level, national narratives. But that is not enough. Its a red-herring. Local battles & local narratives have to be built and fought. Not focusing on that could result in nasty surprises

This is what must be conveyed to energize the Karyakartas. I see this kind of trench-warfare in TN, where the BJP is the guerilla. But is it happening elsewhere too, where BJP is already strong and the enemy is doing Chinese whispers?

To be honest, I am a bit worried. As some one already mentioned, such gimmicks have to be dealt at every polling booth. BJP will have to use its local on-the-ground workers to talk to people about the financial damage which Pappu and seculars are trying to inflict. Greed of money is very much there in India, and that cannot be stopped by Twitter, Facebook etc. Only real personal conversations will help change the perception. Hope BJP is doing that.

I am in dhoti shiver mode, as I feel INC and seculars are now on very aggressive campaign mode.

A related point is asking the mothers (or mothers-to-be) whether this scheme of 1 lakh will be available for their daughters 10-15 years from now. And if not, which is a better way to ensure the daughter's future: empowerment via education, economic growth and job opportunities, or 1 lakh a year today.

Can a woman educate her daughter a college-level education and get her a job for 1 lakh a year over 5 years? Simple answer is no. (but of course, the woman in question is destitute, then then wont be thinking 5 years out).

'I think the truth must come out': EAM S Jaishankar on Katchatheevu island row

External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar addressed a press conference on March 31, where he lashed out at Congress and Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) over the relevance of the Katchatheevu issue. He stated that the public has the right to know how Katchatheevu was given away to Sri Lanka, adding, "Congress & DMK have approached this matter as though they have no responsibility for this."

He also provided important background details regarding the maritime boundary and seizure: "In 1974, India & Sri Lanka concluded an agreement where they drew a maritime boundary, and in drawing the maritime boundary, Katchatheevu was put on the Sri Lankan side."

It boils down to "the public's right to know whom all are donating to which political parties is greater than the donors' wish to remain anonymous and the need to have all donations be not in black money".

Which Articles of the Constitution and which precedents determine this - I don't really know.

Added: I quickly looked it up: "the non-disclosure of information regarding the funding of political parties is violative of the right to information of citizens under Article 19(1)(a) of the Constitution".

19(1)a is about the freedom of speech, association, etc. So how does it connect with the right to information? This has come about with jurisprudence over the years, and the outline given by the court is excerpted below.
Article 19(1)(a) has been held to guarantee the right to information to citizens. The judgments of this Court on the right to information can be divided into two phases. In the first phase, this Court traced the right to information to the values of good governance, transparency and accountability. These judgments recognize that it is the role of citizens to hold the State accountable for its actions and inactions and they must possess information about State action for them to accomplish this role effectively.

....
....

In the second phase of the evolution of the jurisprudence on the right to information, this Court recognised the importance of information to form views on social, cultural and political issues, and participate in and contribute to discussions. Courts recognised that the relevance of information is to not only to hold the government accountable but also to discover the truth in a marketplace of ideas which would ultimately secure the goal of self- development.

This Court also recognised that freedom of speech and expression includes the right to acquire information which would enable people to debate on social, moral and political issues. These debates would not only foster the spirit of representative democracy but would also curb the prevalence of misinformation and monopolies on information.

Thus, in the second phase, the Court went beyond viewing the purpose of freedom of speech and expression through the lens of holding the government accountable, by recognising the inherent value in effective participation of the citizenry in democracy.

This Court recognised that effective participation in democratic governance is not just a means to an end but is an end in itself. This interpretation of Article 19(1)(a) is in line with the now established position that fundamental freedoms and the Constitution as a whole seek to secure conditions for self-development at both an individual and group level.

A crucial aspect of the expansion of the right to information in the second phase is that right to information is not restricted to information about state affairs, that is, public information. It includes information which would be necessary to further participatory democracy in other forms and is not restricted to information about the functioning of public officials. The right to information has an instrumental exegesis, which recognizes the value of the right in facilitating the realization of democratic goals. But beyond that, the right to information has an intrinsic constitutional value; one that recognizes that it is not just a means to an end but an end in itself.
i.e., freedom of speech, to be meaningful, requires "information which would be necessary to further participatory democracy in other forms and is not restricted to information about the functioning of public officials".

Gujarat, Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, Karnataka and to some extent Bihar.

Rest of the places like UP, Bengal & TN, it is a high octane campaign on the ground. JP Nadda needs to crack the whip in the above states.

Vijayaraje Scindia in Raj is also VP of BJP (national office bearer), is she on the ground taking on issues and continuously putting the dotty alliance on the mat? I hope the other not so well known names are doing their job.

What are the state level functionaries doing in Gujarat/MP ? In Gujarat they are talking about politics in Mah! In Rajkot an intemperate remark by the incumbent is leading to a situation where the BJP seat may even be lost! And all of Saurashtra region may be impacted.

So yes, there is a Modi wave. At the same time, there are idiots everywhere who do not even know how to ride the wave!

Added later: The only silver lining in the above is that the CONgoons are even worse off! :rotfl: There are some 70 seats across the region above where both BJP and dotty alliance are competing to grab defeat from the jaws of victory. It is like the competition for incompetence.

disha ji,

money is being distributed on a large scale and the amounts are reportedly quite hefty

This is being done by the dotty alliance, especially the congis and the DMK and also others having access to jihadi war chests

This will have an effect on some of the votes, in the event of the races running very closely

those huge amounts of gold and drugs that were smuggled in wasn't for nothing, and the end game may be in sight

the BJP cadres seem to have slacked off considerably.

The BJP's booth level organization is far better coordinated, correlated and controlled in the north than in the south, leaving a crucial voter facing leadership gap that will be very difficult to fill

In hindsight, Modi expressing confidence publicly of coming back to power was not a good idea

There seems to be a slackening of pace

His exhortation for 400+ is not enthusing the cadres to go all out. Perhaps its a combination of lethargy, over-confidence and fatigue

Hope the average voter makes up where the cadres fall short

Its quite amazing that in a country with 80%+ Hindu voters, we are always one election away from civilizational disaster! The other side is much more anti-fragile

I think Modiji made them very complacent. I keep praying everyday for everything to go smooth.

Where is a BJP manifesto?

One thing that made me thing on what Prashant Kishor said ... BJP wants 400 seats for making changes. People are thinking what will he do? These folks are not divulging what they will do. Meanwhile all the scums/BIF/low lifes like Nirmalaji's loser husband are are filling the gap that he will do dictator and cancel all elections blah blah ...

Time for BJP manifesto and discuss their 2024-29 plans

Unless there is some uber-Chanakyanism at play (though I cannot see what), its a big mistake to delay the Manifesto so much. Especially after showing a report card saying that they have ticked-off all the boxes in their 2019 manifesto

So, people will read & comment on the 2024 manifesto for sure. The karyakartas & other supporters need time to digest it, spread the word and listen for early feedback

BJP had all the time in the world to prepare for this election. What explains this tardiness?

In another note, they also need to go into bare-knuckles attack mode. They should tear apart Congress manifesto & drive home the message in every public gathering that Congress will:

1) Destroy Hindu temples
2) Will implement Shariah
3) There will be weekly bomb blasts in every city
4) India will become a drug-haven & youth will have no jobs
5) Rahul Gandhi will take all your wealth & put in his own pocket
6) Scam after scam will ensure your children will starve
7) Inflation will make us like Venezuela
8 ) INDI Alliance will give away large parts of India to China
9) J&K will join Pakistan
10) All the amenities the people enjoy: UPI, Vande Bharat, Awas Yojana Homes, Jal Jeevan water, LPG gas - will ALL stop because INDI Alliance will loot all the money for such schemes

Loss avoidance is a HUGE psychological driver. People hate to lose things they are used to. People should be reminded of what they will lose - life, limb, liberty & loved-ones

Its not enough to tom-tom achievements. Hard core offense is needed. And it does not matter how much we exaggerate the desolation INDI Alliance will bring. It will be far worse than what we can imagine.

Most oldies will only have a dim memory of UPA years
Younger ones will have no idea and will think things were always hunky-dory irrespective of who was in power

They need to not only be motivated by positive messaging but also have the crap scared out of them. There is enough material/imagery that will prove each of the points above!

Prem Kumar wrote: 12 Apr 2024 09:00 This is what must be conveyed to energize the Karyakartas. I see this kind of trench-warfare in TN, where the BJP is the guerilla. But is it happening elsewhere too, where BJP is already strong and the enemy is doing Chinese whispers?

It is like the competition for incompetence.

disha ji,

people like this are against the BJP and had, in fact, in some of the earlier elections joined hands with the opposition to frustrate BJP

if they get the slightest chance to rock the boat, they will do it gleefully. Many of the "independents" fighting against the BJP are funded by these people

The BJP does not have the booth management strength/expertise nor the experienced dedicated cadres in the required numbers, especially in states like TN.

the dravidiyas are past masters in such booth operations and their cadres are hardworking and they have long had a very scientific way of money and household articles "distribution" which completely eliminates diversion of the "offerings" in cash/kind at any level

The cadres in the south are not as ideologically driven or even as disciplined as their counterparts in the north but they still cluster around caste, sect and mutt heads, many of these "religious heads" and such other external "influencers" are as shady as they come. This is a big problem in states like TN, KAR etc

I heard there is a stash of fake printed currency (cannot rule out both Pak/China in the fake currency racket) which will be at play during this election. The Drug Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) is custodian of 100,000+ crores in various places both Inside and Outside Bharat. Spending 10,000 crores is par for the course and there are many gullible people in TN who fall for gold/silver ornaments for a vote. Booth capture is the norm. Annamalai was complaining about phone tapping by the Govt of TN. Media is completely in the hands of DMK and they paint a fairy tale picture of themselves.

The Congoons are short of cash and this where the fake printed nonsense might rear its head. I hope the vigilance dept keeps a hawk eye on the goings on during election tempo days.

🚨 PM Modi : "One Big INDI Alliance party has now promised to destroy nuclear weapons of India after it gets power"

⚡ "Opposition's manifesto has made a dangerous declaration against the country" - PM Modi

"When two of our neighbours are armed with nuclear weapons, should our nuclear weapons be destroyed? They want to make India powerless?" - PM Modi asks
Source: https://twitter.com/TimesAlgebraIND/sta ... 8894119953

This is exactly what I was talking about. This is the kind of aggression needed. People need to be woken up about the dangers of electing INDI Alliance. Modi should not be the only one doing it. Every worker and MP candidate should do so

Plus, local level aggression. Like in TN, Annamalai is telling people that if DMK offers you Rs 2000, please note that this is Ganja Money and this will destroy your child's future

In every constituency, such issues should be brought to the focus. BJP must be seen as the young, hungry startup trying to fix the evil unleashed by the Congress alliance. Which is not far from the truth

P.S. In 2014 and 2019, I saw so many videos of achievements of Modi sarkar, testimonials from beneficiaries etc. Dont see much of it today. Am I unplugged or has the intensity slowed down?

BIG BREAKING NEWS 🚨 Annamalai releases manifesto for Coimbatore loksabha.

👉 Establishment of Anti Terror National Investigation Agency (NIA) unit
👉 IIM & NCB
👉 Setting up a cancer treatment centre

👉 Upgradation of existing airport as an international terminal
👉 Round-the-clock mobile food vans named after the legendary leader and former CM K Kamaraj
👉 Address of Noyyal and Kousika river issues
Source: https://twitter.com/TimesAlgebraIND/sta ... 0236987396

Here is a brilliant strategy & every MP must emulate it! Each MP must have a clear-cut manifesto for his/her constituency. This can be aligned with BJP's national level manifesto but tackling local issues

This is also why the delay in BJP's manifesto release is baffling!

https://www.cnn.com/2024/04/12/india/in ... index.html

About 968 million people are eligible to vote — more than the populations of the United States, the European Union and Russia combined.

The world’s biggest election kicks into gear next week when the first ballots are cast in India’s mammoth national polls, considered the most consequential in decades with the potential to shape the country’s future.

Nearly 1 billion people are eligible to decide whether to grant Prime Minister Narendra Modi a rare third consecutive term in office and extend the 10-year rule of his Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).

Under Modi, India has become the world’s fastest growing major economy, pushing the country of 1.4 billion people to near-superpower status.

CPI(M) Manifesto:
The CPI(M) works for:

 Exit from alliances like, India-US Defence Framework Agreement, QUAD and I2U2.

 Removal of all military bases in our region, particularly the US base in Diego Garcia in the Indian Ocean where nuclear weapons are stationed.

 Complete elimination of nuclear weapons and other weapons of mass destruction, including chemical and biological weapons.

 Denial of access to Indian naval, air and military facilities for refueling and stationing purposes by countries that are involved in armed intervention/combat anywhere in the world.

 A policy that does not allow the militarisation of space and polar regions.
PDF file:

Basically, the CPI(M) wants India to be a Chinese protectorate.
