I would also look to see if there was some UK/US involvement in sponsoring this love fest. Most IITians look to jump ship and head to US anyway (its US that benefits from the Indian tax payer investment into IITs, not India. Indians only get to gloat over delusions like "IITians own silicon valley" crap but get chicken s@it from IITians in reality), and so I won't be surprised if these IIT dudes sang the song that US appreciates.
I agree that some people are simply pathetic. But surely not the majority. The most pathetic batch mate I had accepted to sign a bond to practice medicine for 5 years in a pathetically impoverished west virginian county which had less doctors in order to get a green card. She was the WKK type. But most of my batch mates would never accept such conditions. I am more than willing to forfeit my green card which in any case I received by family sponsorship of my aunt , because I don't like the practice structure in US.

Reports 5 dead, dozen injured. Apparently a bunch of other cars in the lot caught fire as well and some houses are damaged.
The Islamic Republic of Pakistan seems to have set a new bench mark in painting the Mohammadden religion as not being a catalyst for fostering a yearning for Peace in the heart of its adherents by a demonstration of the IEDology of Pakistan on the Mohammadden holy day of EID ul Fitr.

Yes today, Wednesday August 31st, has been declared to be EID ul Fitr in the Islamic Republic of Pakistan, barring off course Khyber Pakhtunkhwa which likes to celebrate EID on a different day:

No succour for adherents of the Shia sect of Mohammaddenism in the Islamic Republic of Pakistan which was self-claimed to have been created as a safe haven for the Mohammaddens of the Indian Sub-Continent.

For the second day in succession Shia’s at the receiving end of the predatory interest of their co-religionists:

Indian forces have killed three Pakistani soldiers in firing across the Line of Control in the disputed region of Kashmir, the Pakistani army says.

It has accused Indian forces of opening "unprovoked" fire across the LoC - which divides Kashmir between India and Pakistan - in the Neelum valley.

India denied the allegations, saying Pakistani forces opened fire first.

ISI back to its old tricks supporting JeM, which is now openly soliciting funds in Pakiland for jihad. Amir Mir in Asia Times.
The JeM nerve center openly runs a grand religious seminary - Usman-o-Ali - where extremist interpretation of Islam is taught to hundreds of children every year.

International media recently expressed fears that the headquarters of the jihadi group could contain underground bunkers and tunnels, as had been the case with the Lal Masjid-run Jamia Fareedia and Jamia Hafsa schools in Islamabad, which were eventually destroyed in a massive military operation carried out by the Pakistan army in July 2007.

It was further reported that on the inside walls of the JeM headquarters jihadi inscriptions are painted, including a warning to Hindus and Jews, with a picture of Delhi's historic Red Fort, suggesting they will conquer the city.

The resurgence of the Jaish-e-Mohammad shows that the Pakistani establishment remains deeply embroiled with its jihadi proxies and continues to treat them as the civilian face of the Pakistan army.

Under these circumstances, neither Islamabad nor the wider region can hope for any possibilities of peace unless the Pakistani establishment decides to abandon employing terrorism as an instrument of state policy in India to advance its so-called geostrategic agenda in the region.

Let us not be too harsh on our IITB boys...we know how these things start...some commie/maoist who missed his chance at JNU would have started this lovefest and others, who are scared of being branded 'fascist' would have gone along without murmur...students that feel about strongly should simply set up a memorial (it could be a photo exhibition or whatever) for murdered mumbai civilians in the recent terror attacks and pictures of Kasaba and others shooting people to death and Digvijay Singh relasing a book that claims Hindutva forces did it.

No words, let pictures do the talking..

Recently I met a guy attending Executive MBA at Stanford. Six weeks course. Tuition something like $75000. Only the top exec are sent and one of the students even brought his Ferrari all the way from Saudi. Why is this relevant? May be IIT instead of running this tamasha should conduct a course like that just for Pakis say with a tuition fee or Re 1,00,00,000. That way we will at least make some money.

Question is,why is Indian consulate approving visas for these Paki students ? It is hard to imagine IIT-B is arranging all this in isolation without a explicit knowledge/support of GOI. Aman ki tamasha indeed! And that too in a city that has suffered the most in hands of Pakis.

No please, nobody wants a part of their money which is washed in Indic blood. All I want is an electrified fence keeping those ******** away from the matrabhoomi. All this talk of equal-equal and piss by Indians towards killers of their own brethren is a sign of people who are weak. That phrase 'Indians lick those who kick them and kick those who lick them' is probably right.

I will tell you the same middle class that is being discussed in great lengths in other threads on how it is going to decimate congress & bring nationalist forces in power, is nothing but a fickle bunch of people who will latch on to even Dawood Ibrahim if he who promises 10% cheaper LPG. Why blame the poor for voting congress? Indians, read Indics, as a collective lot have forgotten the brutality doled out to them for centuries, forgotten the genocide and even celebrate the perpetrators in the form of great Emperor Akbar & Aurangzeb. This is what we deserve. Aack thoo.

It appears that there was an infiltration bid across LOC and three pakis got baconized. And they are terming it as a ceasefire violation. Unfortunately one Indian JCO was also killed.

Pak troops violate ceasefire twice, three (PAKI) soldiers killed

Link
Pakistan Army spokesman Major General Athar Abbas told Geo News that three Pakistani soldiers were killed in the gun battle. He claimed that Indian forces had fired across the border saying it was "unprovoked".

He identified the soldiers as belonging to irregular Mujahid battalion.
We knew it all along and now Paki army admits that terrorists are part of it.

Army claims 80 percent of Mohmand cleared
Peshawar - Pakistan Army claimed that it had cleared a major part of the Mohmand tribal area of militants and the operation being conducted in the region would be completed in a few days, a private TV channel reported.

Speaking to media representatives, Corps Commander Peshawar, Lt Gen Asif Yasin Malik said that the army had reclaimed 80 to 85 per cent area of the Mohmand Agency.

He said that the army was clearing the region of land mines so that internally displaced people (IDPs) belonging to Mohmand could return to the area and remain safe.

Mr Malik informed journalists that 72 soldiers, including three officers, had embraced martyrdom during the operation.

China Says Attacks Thwarted as Pakistan President Visits Xinjiang
http://www.nytimes.com/reuters/2011/08/ ... .html?_r=1
URUMQI, China (Reuters) - China has thwarted attacks by suspected Uighur militants in its restive far western Xinjiang region, state media said Wednesday, as Pakistan President Asif Ali Zardari visited for a trade fair where he promised to work with Beijing to fight terrorism. Zardari was in Xinjiang's capital Urumqi nearly a month after Chinese officials blamed an attack in the city on militants trained in Pakistan. hina tightened security in Urumqi ahead of the fair, deploying armed SWAT teams, marching baton-wielding riot police through the heavily Uighur ethnic group-dominated old part of the city and stepping up checks on flights bound for the region. Urumqi's Communist Party boss, Zhu Hailun, said that "separatists, religious extremists and terrorists have been plotting to sabotage the expo," the official Xinhua news agency reportedPolice arrested a man at Urumqi airport on August 7 who tried to take a knife aboard a flight, suspected of "planning to carry out an attack during the flight," the report said.

NYPD monitored where Muslims ate, shopped, prayed

EW YORK (AP) — From an office on the Brooklyn waterfront in the months after the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attacks, New York Police Department officials and a veteran CIA officer built an intelligence-gathering program with an ambitious goal: to map the region's ethnic communities and dispatch teams of undercover officers to keep tabs on where Muslims shopped, ate and prayed.

The program was known as the Demographics Unit and, though the NYPD denies its existence, the squad maintained a long list of "ancestries of interest" and received daily reports on life in Muslim neighborhoods, according to documents obtained by The Associated Press.

The documents offer a rare glimpse into an intelligence program shaped and steered by a CIA officer. It was an unusual partnership, one that occasionally blurred the line between domestic and foreign spying. The CIA is prohibited from gathering intelligence inside the U.S.

Undercover police officers, known as rakers, visited Islamic bookstores and cafes, businesses and clubs. Police looked for businesses that attracted certain minorities, such as taxi companies hiring Pakistanis. They were told to monitor current events, keep an eye on community bulletin boards inside houses of worship and look for "hot spots" of trouble.

The Demographics Unit, a team of 16 officers speaking at least five languages, is the only squad of its kind known to be operating in the country.

Using census information and government databases, the NYPD mapped ethnic neighborhoods in New York, New Jersey and Connecticut. Rakers then visited local businesses, chatting up store owners to determine their ethnicity and gauge their sentiment, the documents show. They played cricket and eavesdropped in the city's ethnic cafes and clubs.

When the CIA would launch drone attacks in Pakistan, the NYPD would dispatch rakers to Pakistani neighborhoods to listen for angry rhetoric and anti-American comments, current and former officials involved in the program said.

Sorry for being OT but being an IITian I would like to just say that a lot of people are just making too much out of this peace thing .. It is just a Techfest organized by students. There is no US and all that crap involved and BTW nowadays most of IITians do not go to US .. may be 5-10% only ( I graduated 2 years ago) !!

Students organize it and it is funded by normal sponsorships , means nothing and most probably will gain nothing !!

RajSingh, you may well be correct and too much is made of plain nothing. But, what is intriguing to me is why should a TechFest worry about India-Pakistan peace and fritter away some energy into that ? I would have even understood if a joint technical session had been organized along with the world's leading nuclear research lab, KRL, for example. May be, as an IITian, you can shed some light.

some equally costly courses of similar nature are there in ISB Hyd also. they go on visits to tfta univs like wharton, then to 'emerging mkts' like brazil etc for the last part of the course.
the politically well connected elites in cos get this as a perk & bonus, and the tag gives them the suitable sheen for a higher post - which they would get anyway course or no course. its not as if a guy who is already director needs a 6 week course to figure out how to be a VP or senior director...it comes from capability and exposure...and the well connected always have opportunities created for them to get the right exposure.

the mgmt institutes are however happy to give the tag and cash in.

Singha-ji a nice summarisation of how 'elite' education in India works - you take in elites and they come out even bigger elites. Neither IITs nor IIM or ISBs can go recruit in a slum and turn them into Steve Jobs. Rag to riches stories are about as hard to find as virgins in Bollywood..

^^^ Thats the case everywhere with management education I guess. I wonder what is the return of investment for the companies sponsoring such programmes . IMHO companies would be better off teaching them more practical stuff . Like what on earth their companies sell . Because these management baboons often have no idea about these things . American industry was built when engineers ran companies. When the MBA's started running them , the Chinese industry grew and the American fell. I surely hope such baboons don't infiltrate India in a large way .

^^^Saar, to be fair, institutes that take in raw talent based on a fair-ish nationwide exam (JEE, CAT) tend to be quite egalitarian in that many 'aam aadmi' type backgrounds also find their way in on pure merit basis alone.

Quite different frm the Harvardi model where for the undergrad, connections and pull are about all that count only. Sure, the elite US schools are different at the masters level where merit again tends to trump, some say.

Anyway, enough OT for the TSP thread. Zardu balm may get encouraged to 'demand' India set up IITs in Pak also as an aman-ki-assa gesture, who knows, eh?

NYPD monitored where Muslims ate, shopped, prayed
Sorry to gloat, but I observed long long time ago, that for all the bogus claims on secularism, US is monitoring the shadow of every Muslim in the US post 9/11. I recall when I was living in NJ, there was a lot of "road construction" for several months, more than normal IMO, next to a popular mosque. For those who know NJ, I am refering to the mosque on Rt 1 as you approach Princeton area driving south. For a long time, when the "road construction" activity went on and on, I could not but help suspect some hanky panky going on, some underground listening devices and such. As more and more of these revelations come out, my hunch rings true. Of course, the full extent of US monitroing of Muslims (and possibly people of color just so no Muslim is excluded even by accident) will only be revealed 50+ years from now, if at all based on "recently released documents". Ditto CIA turture camps that were outsourced to their all-lies like Mush. This is how a superpower protects its interests, and of course gives lectures to countries like India on the virtues of secularism and issues annual report on human rights from freedom house and state dept :-).

An acquaintance of mine (White man) married a Malasian muslim woman. Every time he makes any significant cash transfer to any person (inside or outside the country), FBI knocks his door to check out :D .

The funny thing is bloody scums like Dhoti Roy stand in front of these crowds and berate India.
