One day these drones will make a mistake and fire at Kiyani or Pasha will get intimate with a youngster wearing a bulky jacket. That seems to be the message here.

TSP is becoming Zombiestan!
To those unfamilar with the zombie genre of literature, there is movement in West of having a Zombie version of the literature classics. Its a phase.
However TSP is turning into what is a literary device!

Zardari cuts short Dubai visit as rift widens
Looks like the coup option is getting out of the TSPA hands due to many problems in Zombiestan. Essentially how to run the place and prevent being blamed.......
The prime minister has called a meeting of the cabinet’s defence committee for Saturday and the army chief will attend, a government official said, in a possible sign of efforts to reduce friction. A disputed memo allegedly seeking U.S. help in reining in Pakistan’s powerful military has plunged relations with the government to their lowest point since a coup in 1999.
Earlier on Thursday a meeting between army chief General Ashfaq Kayani and his top commanders fueled speculation that the generals, who set security and foreign policies, have lost patience with the government.
Senior officers discussed in detail “prevailing conditions,” a source told Reuters, highlighting fears for the economic and political stability of Pakistan, a vital but uneasy ally for the United States in its attempt to fight militancy and bring peace to neighbouring Afghanistan.
Military sources say that while they would like Zardari to go, it should be through constitutional means, not another of the coups that have marked half of Pakistan’s almost 65 years of independence.
“There is no talk in the military of a takeover,” a mid-level army officer, who requested anonymity because he was not authorised to speak on the matter, told Reuters.
“I don’t foresee a military coup.”
...
Newspaper editorials were grim, predicting an imminent showdown between the civilian government and a military that is so powerful it sets security and foreign policies. “The army is facing a critical situation; it does not want a takeover – and it should not – but it is facing insults from the highest political level,” said The News in an editorial titled “Wrong turn.”

I think its still touch and go. TSPA wants to do a coup but does not like the attached burden of running the government lest they are shown to be even more incompetent. So current best option is bluster and appear to be good khakis as opposed to bad khakis who run coups. Meanwhile support the SC to remove the ZeeGee gang by fatwa, sorry court order, and thus put the soft coup in place.Pakistan: Political crisis worsens. Pakistan's military publicly rebuked Prime Minister Gilani over his accusations against the defence secretary, whom he fired today. Gilani dismissed retired Lieutenant General Lodhi as defence secretary - the highest ranking civil service position in the ministry - because he facilitated the transmission of Army testimony to the Supreme Court without obtaining Cabinet permission, from the Minister of Defence. Lodhi also recently wrote to the Supreme Court saying the government had administrative, but not operational, control of the Army.
The Pakistan Army today, 11 January, warned of "serious ramifications with potentially grievous consequences" in response to the Prime Minister's criticism of military leaders in an interview with Chinese media. Gilani accused the military of violating the constitutional by providing testimony directly to the Supreme Court about the infamous "memo" that detailed a military threat to overthrow the government sent to US retired Admiral Mullen, when he was Chairman, Joint Chiefs of Staff, and requesting US assistance.
The Army statement said, "There can be no allegation more serious than what the honorable prime minister has leveled. This has very serious ramifications with potentially grievous consequences for the country."
It said the prime minister had accused the Chief of Army Staff and the head of Inter-Services Intelligence of violating the constitution. The army said Chief of Army Staff General Kayani had "followed the book" and had passed its response via the Defence Ministry to the Supreme Court according to the law.
Comment: The Army leadership's public rebuke has escalated the political struggle with the elected government. This is a struggle that politicians cannot win, especially with US State Department backing.
The next step in the struggle is up to the Supreme Court of Pakistan which has disqualified on constitutional grounds the President and the Prime Minister. The elected government's time in office appears limited, making early elections likely for a new parliament and president. The actions and investigations of the Supreme Court will provide the legal justification. Imran Khan, a former cricket star, appears to have Army backing and is a man to watch as the next prime minister of Pakistan.
The US needs to recalibrate its policy. The US backed Bhutto and Zardari and courted general Kayani endlessly, to no avail. That policy has deepened hostility to the US. The renewal of US drone attacks this week, for example, is certain to backfire if early elections are called.
{No win situation!}
And get UK and US support for being good khakis!

Pakistan - Jihadi Living Under the Black-Outs Because of Insufficient Electricity
Pakistan - Jihadi Living Under the Black-Outs Because of Insufficient Electricity
Pakistan is under black-outs due not just because of terrorism, corruption, and inflation. No, mostly it’s because of electricity and gas shortages and this in long run affects every sector of life which you can imagine. Natural disasters like The Great Earthquake and Flood-2010 have negatively affected our growth rate and a number of energy plants were partially or completely damaged.About 1.4 billion people today lack access to electricity, and current trends indicate that this will not change significantly by 2030. It is also estimated that 2.5 billion people will still use traditional biomass for cooking in 2030, with related health effects leading to 1.5 million premature deaths per year, mostly among women and children. The blame game about electricity and gas shortages is on full throttle here . Some blame the current Pakistani leadership thinking it has only happened recently. Today, Pakistan is in a severe energy crisis

Pakistan Civilian, Army Leaders Rally Support as Rift Widens
Jan. 12 (Bloomberg) -- Pakistan’s parliament and the country’s army commanders will meet separately today as civilian and military leaders bid to bolster support amid their sharpest power struggle since the end of army rule in 2008.Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani and army chief Ashfaq Parvez Kayani clashed yesterday over a Supreme Court probe into a purported government memo seeking U.S. help to prevent a possible military coup. Gilani may also face sanction from the court for his government’s failure to pursue corruption cases against President Asif Ali Zardari and other officials.“The government will try to prove that it still commands a majority in parliament and any attempt by the judiciary to disqualify it will not be tolerated,” said Rashid Khan, a professor of international relations at the University of Sargodha in central Pakistan. Gilani “may try to cool the situation by saying he doesn’t plan to sack the army chief.”

So in a situation where the economy is in the shitter and people are actually torn between the civilian govt and the brave faujis who're getting their a$$ kicked by the bunnies and the national bird and playing the chinese violin, the best way as always is war against us. Everything will be forgotten then. Even when they're neck deep in pakistan, we need to keep an eye out and ensure they drown.ramana wrote: I think its still touch and go. ISLAMABAD: The meeting of corps commanders headed by the Army Chief General Ashfaq Pervez Kayani on Thursday decided to provide Mansoor Ijaz with security upon his arrival in the country for the hearing of memogate case, DawnNews reported.Pakistan’s military chief met top commanders amid a widening rift between the powerful armed forces and the civilian government. The meeting at GHQ lasted for 10 hours which was not only attended by the corps commanders but by the Principle Staff Officers of Pakistan Army as well.According to sources, it was decided not to compromise on national security.Memogate hearing on January 16, by the commission formed by Supreme Court, also came under discussion at the meeting. It was decided that the central character of controversial memogate issue Mansoor Ijaz would be provided security by the army upon his arrival in the country.
Statements issued by military and the government on memogate issue also came under discussion in the meeting.Earlier on Wednesday, the prime minister fired the defence secretary and the military issued an unusual statement warning of “grievous consequences”, as the fallout from a scandal centred on a memo written to Washington asking for its help in reining in the generals widened.

While all this was going on, Prime Minister Gilani gave a surprising statement saying that the army chief took his permission before issuing a clarification through the ISPR. First the prime minister makes adventurist statements in an interview related to the army chief and DG ISI and then he backs down from it. Why is Mr Gilani doing this to his own cause and credibility? Is this deliberate? If it is, then the apprehensions of a clash of institutions will turn into a self-fulfilling prophecy but if it is not deliberate, then he should be more circumspect in his statements so as not to cause more confusion and commotion. Whatever the prime minister’s reasons, it would not be wrong to say that a clash between institutions does exist. The military and the judiciary seem to be on one side while the civilian government on the other. Mian Nawaz Sharif has gravitated more and more towards the military-judiciary’s side and thrown all caution to the winds on his earlier democratic stance of not destabilising the system. The suspicion in the mind of some observers is that an indirect coup might be in the offing against a democratically elected government. If something like this happens, we could have anarchy on our hands. Instead of further destabilising the country, it would be better if all state institutions remain within their parameters. All politicians, especially those in the opposition, should support democracy. Just like Pakistan cannot afford another direct military coup, it cannot afford an end to democracy either. *

Qadiani ManSuar Ijazz blamed Kayani over OBL after Abbottabad raid
http://www.dailytimes.com.pk/default.as ... 2012_pg1_6
http://www.dailytimes.com.pk/default.as ... 2012_pg1_6
RAWALPINDI: Although Mansoor Ijaz, the main character in the memogate saga, has sought protection from the Pakistan Army during his stay in Pakistan for appearing before the memo inquiry commission, he had earnestly accused the army and ISI of protecting Osama bin Laden right after the May 2 US raid in Abbottabad, research into his articles and statements reveals. In a radio interview in May, Ijaz had also suggested that Chief of Army Staff General Ashfaq Parvez Kayani may have been forewarned by the US about the raid, though in November he claimed that it was the country’s civilian leadership that had prior information about the raid. These contradictions raise serious questions about the credibility of Ijaz, who is expected to testify before the memo commission on Monday. In an article in Financial Times on May 3, Ijaz wrote, “As Pakistan now awakens to a post-bin Laden era, the nuclear-armed nation seems unable to respond truthfully or credibly to the duplicity of its policies or the complicity of its spy agency in harbouring a mass murderer.” He added, “The compound’s location near an elite Pakistani military academy and among the homes of high-ranking Pakistani military retirees raises hard questions about Pakistan’s role in harbouring the al Qaeda leader in plain sight while its intelligence services and military chiefs nursed on the American taxpayers’ wallet.”
According to Mansoor Ijaz, “It seems implausible that Inter-Services Intelligence, the premier Pakistani spy agency, knew nothing about where bin Laden was. Indeed, it seems much more likely that elements within the agency knew exactly where he was and kept bin Laden within that compound on just the terms it wanted. In all of this, Pakistan has almost certainly acted as a knowing babysitter, watching over the terror master so he would do no further harm –as long as the babysitting fees were sufficient and recurring.”Ijaz argued that “the ISI’s watchful eye on bin Laden also would have had the advantage of creating plausible deniability with both the military and civilian wings of government, as we are now seeing…Put more bluntly, Pakistan intelligence service chiefs should once and for all wake up to the reality that every time they try to con the world into thinking they are a bunch of good guys protecting their country, they just get caught with their pants down –each time eroding further the nation’s credibility.”Also on May 3, Mansoor Ijaz appeared on Fox News TV and claimed “military types” were involved in building the compound in Abbottabad where Osama bin Laden was located. He said, “Yeah I mean in that area, almost all the land is owned by the Pakistani army. That’s the bottom line (sarcastic laugh). That’s where all the retired general of Pakistan Army live. And in very good houses I might add. I’ve been up there before.”

Defend Threatened Muslim Moderates: Save Husain Haqqani
There is every reason to believe that the real reason Haqqani is being targeted is that he is a prominent moderate Muslim, one of the few remaining in Pakistan’s government. Farahnaz Ispahani, Haqqani’s wife and a member of Pakistan’s parliament, wrote in the Washington Post on January 10 that her husband’s case is part of a pattern: “The systematic elimination or marginalization of every intellectual and leader in Pakistan who has stood up to the institutionalization of a militarized Islamist state.” She explains, “Ever since the military dictator Mohammed Zia ul-Haq created the well-oiled machine of religious extremism, Pakistan’s progressive and liberal voices have faced allegations of treason and corruption.”Ms. Ispahani fears that her husband will meet the fate of Punjab’s governor Salman Taseer and Pakistan’s minister of minorities Affairs Shehbaz BhattiBoth Bhatti and Taseer were Haqqani’s personal friends. They shared a vision of Pakistan as a religiously and culturally tolerant and pluralistic society. Last spring at the embassy in Washington, Haqqani, in an act of undeniable courage given the trend at home, held a memorial service for Bhatti, a Christian. At it, he implored, “It is time for us to stand up, courageously against intolerance, against discrimination and against extremism.”

Generals quietly review options
ISLAMABAD: Amid an intensifying row with the government, army chief Gen Ashfaq Parvez Kayani met the corps commanders on Thursday at an unannounced session of the military’s top brass that studied various options for dealing with the political crisis that has ensued from the memo scandal.
The silence maintained by the military and its media wing, ISPR, over the meeting was more worrying than reassuring as it sent Islamabad’s rumour mills working overtime.
The meeting took place as President Asif Zardari flew to Dubai on a daylong visit for a follow-up medical examination and attending a wedding ceremony; and the government announced that it had convened the Defence Committee of the Cabinet for Saturday.
Officially, DCC’s agenda is to deliberate on the recommendations finalised by the Parliamentary Committee on National Security, but it would put the civilian leaders and army officers face to face for the first time during the latest phase of the civil-military impasse.
In the absence of any official word on the army top brass meeting, the media was left to the mercy of unconfirmed sources, who claimed that the corps commanders had endorsed Gen Kayani’s commitment to democracy, but given no assurance about the PPP-led government completing its constitutional tenure.
In addition to discussing, what a source described as “various options available to the army” for dealing with the crisis that intensified with Prime Minister Gilani’s “provocative” interview, the commanders analysed the government’s move to fire defence secretary Lt-Gen (retd) Naeem Khalid Lodhi, a former corps commander, who had got the job on military’s recommendation.
The move, it is said, was construed as an attempt by the government to assert its control over the military.
The commanders were bitter over the sacking and appointment of Nargis Sethi, one of the most senior bureaucrats, as his replacement.
Developments in the NRO verdict implementation case and proceedings of the commission appointed by the Supreme Court on the memo scandal also came up for review at the army meeting.

ISI, IB should be made more accountable: commission
ISLAMABAD: A commission constituted by the government to investigate the circumstances leading to the killing of journalist Syed Salim Shahzad has blamed various ‘belligerents’ involved in the war on terror for his murder.
But it didn’t single out any person or organisation, who could have killed him, leaving the room open for further probe. In its set of recommendations, the most important was to rein in the Inter-Services Intelligence and Intelligence Bureau and make them accountable within their organisations and to the parliamentary committees concerned.

The generals really dont have any options. If they launch a formal coup they wont get any more support from US and UK. PRC is cat on the wall unless India is involved. Then there is the problem of who to run a problem like Pakistan with all its woes now.
However they have to address the insult from the civves. Its one thing to be slapped by the US in Abortabad. They can rationalize it as being faced superior force. The PNS Mehran raid by fundoos is rationalized as letting off steam to keep their non state actors still around. But to be slapped by nikammah ZeeGees is too much.
The ZeeGees have a weak point. They both are subject to Supreme Court strictures. So if the jeranils let the law taek its course then the ZeeGees will be in trouble and have to call for elections which can be tailored to deliver their own puppet.
So lets see how the story unravels.

TSP is moving in the right direction. In the current balance of forces - jihadis win, one way or the other. The army upper echelons may not have much of a choice. TSPA may already have gone past the point of no return towards an increasingly jihadi army. its tough to predict how the Brit (as well as American) handlers of ISI/TSPA may succeed in maintaining a semblance of regularity. They just might succeed in holding together a precarious balance of power within the army, the ISI and the dawaists [all roads from these three seem to reach up to the island - with strong UK based clerical connections to the Dawaists] for some time.
All it needs, however, to upset the balance is poke from the Afghans.

Lets keep in mind, the spice in the Soup of Coup will be the miserable economic conditions by end of this year when the foreign reserves go the real Pakhanaland level. Financially, TSP goes back to pre911 level and it will result in opening the pandora box on global scale. Massa , Massi and their Sala Cheena,Jija Saudi will like to achieve few of their objectives before they give some Khairat to Poaqeggers. India, Iran, Afghanistan have to be very careful and keep eyes open for major event by Paki.

1. Mango abduls don't have a stake in this. They will obey the rulers who give them do roti and occasional cutlet.
2. Morale will take a hit. Hence the need for indirect coup.
3. If soft coup goes thru, then future civvies will think again. Future civvies will be Army pasand to prevent repeat.
I will add a couple more:
4. The civvies are not the future of TSP.
5. The jihadis in and out of uniform will get emboldened at the helplessness of the jernails.

Re: Terrorist Islamic Republic of Pakistan (TSP): 06 Dec 201
They have already released a statement that if called upon the court to enforce their judgement, they will do so. So what will happen is that the SC will order groper and zardari to step down and conduct elections. Obviously they will refuse. Then they will call upon the army to uphold the constitution, as Army had sworn to Allah to do so. Army will say, Allah? then we have no choice. Will issue an ultimatum. Civvies will refuse. Then they will yell AoA!!! and motor up with the 111 Brigade to the President's house.pankajs wrote:It will still leave the impression that the jernails had to rely on a 3rd party to settle the score.
Army's H&D saved. Coup also done by SC orders. Interim government will organize elections and stuff ballots to bring IK to power.
The only fly in the ointment is the economy. Still left to be seen where the Army will bring the money from. OTOH, if the civvies survive this attempt, they will go to Massa and say "Abduls are angry that there is no electricity. In the interests of democracy, please give us baksheesh"
One way or the other, somebody is paying the Pakis soon.
