France's Dassault lowest bidder for India jet buy: sources
Re: India selects Typhoon & Rafale for MMRCA shortlist - Par
We finally have a winner and I could not be happier about the choice of Rafale. It's built by a single nation, one that had stood by us through tough times and IAF has been more than satisfied with it's predecessor the mirage 2000.
Now I hope it's inducted within the next year or so without any issues delaying it.

More confirmation on TOI breaking news.. Seems like genuine news indeed..
More on economic times..
Dassault Rafale bags $10.4 bn deal to supply 126 multi-role combat aircrafts to IAF

Here's something interesting..The source said each Rafale was $4 million to $5 million cheaper than its rival and the plane was preferred by the Air Force
http://www.indianexpress.com/news/franc ... l/906120/0However, government sources told Reuters about the $15 billion deal that France's Rafale jet was the likely winner, adding that the defence ministry was now considering buying another 80 or so jets and could invite bidders excluded from the current process to take part.

I am not surprised. I do admire the French, Dassault, for keeping their lips zipped unlike the EF consortium which had no end of 'news" for us. All BS.Cain Marko wrote:"And the plane was preferred by the Air Force"

It would have been an intense fight between the two. And the french will pop their Dom Perignon '97, dig into caviar. While the brits will have their martinis, not shaken or stired, but frozen numb!

Raffy is L1, good news for Dassault camp, this may be their first export. I hope they can actually get past the final negotiations, any messing up now will lead to deal being scrapped. Raffy with an all US weapons pack would be awesome. Being L1 doesn't mean a deal is signed, we'll have to wait and see how it shapes up in the next few months. Raffy has gone till the last phase and lost many times. I hope we get the pimped up raffy with new engines, upgraded everything.
If indeed a deal is signed this could lead to more Raffy deals elsewhere, we really showered new life into the Raffy, its future was looking rather dismal. I hope the deal goes through.
Unkil is offcourse playing a huge hand in this. 80 aircraft, could very well be a FMS for the F-18IN. Eitherway a combo of Raffy and SH would be awesome.

Funny because AKA came out and said decision would only be in march, yet MoD announced the winner. We need this up and running fast!

$5 million per piece cheaper than EF per ajai shukla

Kailash, do not lose sleep over this. its all BS. Unkil offering us second rate models of what they use? the sanctions? We should be happy buying inert systems from them!Kailash wrote:Who in the right mind would do that? Word of caution - $ 10.4 billion for 126 Rafale? Look out for the weapons package lurking in the shadows?
Re: India selects Typhoon & Rafale for MMRCA shortlist - Par
i think 80 birds may be for the Naval Air arm and might go to different vendor . IF the KHan is in this then i believe this will be for navy and the jets will be f-35
Re: India selects Typhoon & Rafale for MMRCA shortlist - Par
Is Rafale cheaper even in terms of life cycle costs? It seems contrary to the Mirage upgrade deal..
Re: India selects Typhoon & Rafale for MMRCA shortlist - Par
80 aircraft should me mig35 reasons below
1) we operate mig29/mig29kub the fighter is a known one
2) infrastructure for the aircraft already exist
3) maintenence & other facility already there
4) skilled manpower to maintain & fly the fighter already there
5) AESA radar with ease of choosing russian deals will push it forward
6) seperate line could be there for india we can get (1 sqd rafael + 1 sqd mig 35 every year)
anyone here is welcome to add to the list
remember we want no. + quality + tech.== 4+ gen fighter
our 5 gen pak-fa & amca are seperate projects no need for low rcs fighters

sorry almost forgot cheapest of 4++ gen fighter with running AESA RADAR i.e MIG 35
Re: India selects Typhoon & Rafale for MMRCA shortlist - Par
F-18IN
One of the reasons given by Maroof Raza was that Raffy has a naval variant, a two seater variant and a nuclear variant.
Why would anyone want the Rafale to be burdened by having to babysit the F18
The Rafale, MKI, LCA, M2K and Jag would be a deadly combo covering all aspects of aerial warfare and delivery.

CNN-IBN says $65M for a Raffy in flyaway condition.

Re: India selects Typhoon & Rafale for MMRCA shortlist - Par
From what I understand, Mig 35 is modified version of Mig 29. So, chances for further growth were limited like that of F-16. Also, the jet is yet to book order and hit production lines..!
By the way rafale is a good choice...!

Re: India selects Typhoon & Rafale for MMRCA shortlist - Par
Great choice. Raffy is superb and way better looking than Tify.
Also it means there will be no American AAM in the IAF service in near future.

Re: India selects Typhoon & Rafale for MMRCA shortlist - Par
I am very proud that IAF chose the best aircraft, the real multirole one, with accurate A2G and performing A2A, already with AESA and data fusion.
And I am very pleased to see that Dassault offer was the L1, and that it's "only" 12Md$ (1.6 ahead of the proposed 10.4Md$).

Saar, AKA said the signing would take place in March, the decision, according to him was to be published 'soon'.shyamd wrote:Funny because AKA came out and said decision would only be in march, yet MoD announced the winner. We need this up and running fast!
I assumed the 'soon' to be the average Indian babu's 'soon'.. but who knew!LiveFist wrote:The Indian M-MRCA fighter deal won't be signed before the financial year draws down, Indian defence minister AK Antony told reporters in Delhi today, but confirmed that the lowest bidder would be declared "soon".

Wonderful news. IAF has chosen the best on offer.
Re: India selects Typhoon & Rafale for MMRCA shortlist - Par
Most of the major contractual terms and conditions would have been agreed to. Now it will be a matter of small stuff to be decided.Snehashis wrote:Wont there be any haggling before signing the deal ?rajanb wrote:CNN-IBN says $65M for a Raffy in flyaway condition.
Only sheer stupidity by Dassault or an MP writing a letter could skew this deal.
Having said that the deals we have had with France: Ouragon, M2K, jag A/C, Alouette helios, AMX tanks, Scorpene etc., would mean they would know how to handle it.
Re: India selects Typhoon & Rafale for MMRCA shortlist - Par
Which means that life cycle costs plus spares plus weapons may add up to a humongous total.Marten wrote:Snehasis, 65 a pop is an awesome price. I bet we would have been happy to pay this much even for the Mirage 2K if more were available in mint condition as of today.

Re: India selects Typhoon & Rafale for MMRCA shortlist - Par
Inert systems? Ha ha We are bound to see the raffy with an all US weapons pack quite simply because they are 3 times cheaper and on average 3 times better than their competition. We need a massive weapons pack to go with the Raffy and US weapons are the ideal choice.
Furtherore, I assure you we are not just buying inert stuff from unkil, apache block 3, P-8 with Fishhawks, Cbu-97/105SFW, etc are anything but inert and are by far the best systems in their respective classes.
Second rate models??? Another joke, even the Air chief Naik claimed Unkil's stuff was the best, the reason why they weren't chosen was clearly due to the conditions.
http://www.indiastrategic.in/topstories1068.htm
Now Raffy winning this deal is fishy....
Could it be?? I think a Rafale deal won't be so easy, there are bound to be voices being raised over this....

Unkil's systems come with too many restrictions. There is also a history with Unkil. Unkil not only supplies weapons but also finishes up the country who bought them.
Re: India selects Typhoon & Rafale for MMRCA shortlist - Par
After more than half a decade, finally a decision has been made. I am bit concerned by the high cost of European weapons, especially those standoff PGMs and cruise missiles.
Do we see Rafale getting MKIized with Indian/Israeli components, developed phase by phase or would that delay the deliveries.
How long do we have to wait before we see Rafale with Meteor and an AESA in Indian colors?

Best deal and aircraft has won!!!!!
Now a speady delivery.. (although it took the IAF/GOI years to decide it would be onfair to demand dassault to start immidiate delivery...)
