NSA to oversee terror probe in West Bengal, get Mamata govt on board
NSA to oversee terror probe in West Bengal, get Mamata govt on board
I think Doval is carrying a very tough message for Mumtaz most likely proof of a direct link to JBM. Perhaps an intercepted conversation.NEW DELHI: Taking a serious view of the revelations of a deep terror network in West Bengal, Prime Minister Narendra Modi will send national security adviser Ajit Doval to the state on Monday to personally oversee the ongoing investigations and persuade the state government to be part of the solution.
Doval will be accompanied by IB chief Asif Ibrahim during his visit, signalling the importance the government is giving to these developments. Doval's first engagement will be a meeting with chief minister Mamata Banerjee.
The NSA will carry a personal message from the PM asking for "full support" of the state government in carrying out the investigations on an al-Qaida affiliate taking root in the border state.
Faced with some resistance from the Mamata government on investigations into the terror network in the wake of the Burdwan blasts, an alarmed Central government has asked Doval to brief the Trinamool dispensation at length and "sensitise" it to the dangers of what has been unravelling.
Accompanied by top officials, Doval will even go to Burdwan to personally oversee the probe which has since been handed over to NIA. It's not yet clear whether he will visit Murshidabad where Jamaat-ul-Mujahideen Bangladesh (JMB) leaders were apparently using a madrassa to train their cadres.
...
The developments are particularly difficult for both the Central and state government. Battling waning popularity in the aftermath of the Saradha scam, Banerjee has been resisting Central involvement in the investigations. But home ministry overrode her objections to bring NIA into the probe. She cannot publicly oppose the investigations and risk further loss of popularity by appearing to side with the dark forces, a perception that might be her undoing in the next elections. But she believes the unravelling of the terror network could affect her political equations as well.
The JMB in Bangladesh had been decimated by the Sheikh Hasina government in 2007, but it found a safe haven in West Bengal a few years later.

I think it was a well planned out strategy. BJP/NSA playing the game as it should be played. WB needs to be brought under control, and it was imperative to change the nation's mood to be hostile to the current WB establishment. Once done, NSA/Centre will have the right to intervene in the state's affairs. Mumtaz played a dangerous game which has backfired on her politically.Pratyush wrote:This is turning into a nightmare. I think it will get worse before it gets better. Look out for key Muslim hot spots around the country to flame up a bit. If states have understood the way the Centre is working, then they will do their level best for such flare ups to not happen.

NSA sees large network behind Bardhaman blast
http://www.thehindu.com/news/national/n ... epage=trueDoval says New Delhi, Dhaka working jointly to fight terror
On the eve of his visit to Bardhaman in West Bengal, where two suspected members of Jamaat-ul Mujahideen Bangladesh (JMB) were killed in the October 2 bomb blast, National Security Adviser Ajit Doval said there appeared to be a large network of the banned group that the investigators were working to unravel.
Mr. Doval told The Hindu that both Indian and Bangladeshi governments were working in close coordination in the fight against terrorism. “Both the countries enjoy excellent bilateral relations and we have been working together,” he said.
The NSA said the case had serious implications and required a comprehensive investigation. Special Secretary (Internal Security) Prakash Mishra and representatives of the Research and Analysis Wing, the Intelligence Bureau and the National Investigation Agency may accompany the NSA to West Bengal. NIA Director-General Sharad Kumar had earlier visited Bardhaman and Murshidabad on October 24.
Re: Internal Security Watch
In the name of stopping terrorist planning and activity by JMB against Bangladesh state, Indian security forces can finish off the whole Ghazi infrastructure in WB. For that it is good if TMC is nominally in power, but all the police forces in WB are put indirectly under Central control.

Man attacks Shahi Imam, tries to set him on fire
NEW DELHI: Evening prayers at Jama Masjid were dramatically interrupted on Sunday after a 34-year-old man hurled kerosene on the Shahi Imam, Syed Ahmed Bukhari, and charged at him with a lighter in an apparent attempt to set him ablaze. However, the Imam's guards were able to apprehend the attacker in the nick of time and hand him over to the police.
The attacker was identified as Kamaaluddin alias Kamaal, a resident of south 24 Parganas in West Bengal. An FIR under section 307 (attempt to murder) has been registered at the local police station and the accused has been arrested, a senior cop said.
A joint team of intelligence bureau sleuths, the special cell and the local police is questioning the accused to ascertain the motive behind the attack. His antecedents are also being probed.
The incident was reported around 6pm as hundreds of people gathered at the mosque to offer namaz. Speaking to TOI, the Imam said that the accused had tried to meet him earlier in the evening as well when he was walking in the courtyard before the prayers.
"He had even shaken hands with me and was roaming around in the area. He was wearing a white shirt and black trousers and did not look like he had come to the mosque to offer prayers," Bukhari told TOI.
According to witnesses, the accused charged at Bukhari from behind as devotes bent down to offer namaz. "He was carrying a 300ml bottle from which he threw kerosene on the Imam. He then tried to light the bottle, which still had some kerosene left, and hurl it at the Imam. However, the lighter did not work and the guards pounced on him," a senior cop said.
"Despite this, I continued with my prayers to prevent any chaos as I feared people would thrash him if I left the prayers midway and got up," Bukhari further said. The attacker was taken away from the mosque and the cops took him in custody.
Imam's brother Tariq Bukhari said the Imam's office has requested the home ministry to increase security for the Imam following the incident.

Physics and chemical lab’ of Burdwan

KINSUK BASU
Calcutta, Oct. 26: The ammunition, weapon parts and chemicals found at the October 2 blast site have prompted forensic analysts to dub the Burdwan home a “combined physics and chemistry laboratory” probably focused on mass killings.
The Telegraph spoke to officials from the Central Forensic Science Laboratory, Calcutta, and other analysts to understand the nature of the seized material.
Till early last week, the scientists had only a partial idea. “We’ll carry out further examinations of the seized items to ascertain the terror module’s ammunition-producing capabilities,” CFSL director Priyankar Ghosh said last week.
The following is information collated from multiple sources, some of whom cautioned that the analysis was a dynamic process and definite conclusions were yet to be reached.
PHYSICS LABORATORY
Home-made 8mm bullets
Made with metal and plastic tubes, they feature brass heads and small fan-like blades to ensure a longer trajectory.
Surprise element: Home-made guns have been seen in Bengal before but never home-made bullets, which are more difficult to make.
“This is an uncommon bullet shape. The small blades have been fitted strategically at the point where the bullet’s head meets the body,” a scientist said.
Lighter than ordinary bullets (made of lead heads and brass base filled with gunpowder), these bullets need the blades to cover any sizeable distance, ballistics veterans said.
Questions: Who gave them the technology? How did they acquire the knowledge and expertise?
Another question is how the suspects or the eventual users intended to fire the bullets. Some officials spoke about the possibility of “spraying” the bullets from launchers — many at a time to offset the lack of accuracy.
But an army veteran was cautious, saying grenades —which cover an area — could be lobbed from launchers but he was not sure whether bullets, largely used to strike individual targets, could be fired in a similar manner.
“We are still in the process of ascertaining which mechanical device would have been used to fire the bullets,” a forensic official said.
Timer watches
Fitted to bombs, these small watches ensure that a pin goes off at a designated time, causing an explosion.
Surprise element: Ordinary timers work within a time frame of 12 to 24 hours but those found in Khagragarh can theoretically be set up to cause an explosion much later. A forensic official said such timers were seen several years ago at a blast site in Jammu’s Maulana Azad Stadium.
Questions: How did these watches reach Khagragarh? What sort of delayed explosion was planned?
Launcher designs, lathe machine
The suspects had downloaded from the Internet designs of launchers capable of firing grenades. A lathe machine was found. So were a few launcher components such as “aerodynamic cover” and “conical liner”. The two components are usually used in “shaped charges” — called so since the cavity is “shaped” in a manner that focuses the impact of the explosive’s energy.
It is not clear yet what the Burdwan module intended to do with the lathe machine and the components.
Irregular and guerrilla forces abroad have been known to rig up hand-held or shoulder-launched grenade launchers using similar components. Originally used by the Soviets, such launchers are popular among insurgents because they can be made at low cost and without drawing much attention. In 1993, two US Black Hawk helicopters were downed in Mogadishu by a Somalian militia using shoulder-launched grenades.
Surprise element: The manufacturing process is relatively simple but understanding the design of a launcher requires a certain proficiency in physics. Calculations in projectile motion are involved in building a launcher — if indeed the Burdwan module was trying to make a launcher.

Doval handed over a list of 180 Bangladeshi militants hiding in WB as the state government said it would cooperate
“Besides pointing out that Jalpaiguri has turned into yet another terror point for JMB, the central representatives also handed over a list of unrecognised madrasas in the state operating as terror-breeding hubs,” said a state government source on condition of anonymity. “The central team also informed the chief minister on how during the last couple years the number of terror modules in West Bengal has gone beyond 50.”
...
“The chief minister and the West Bengal government have assured that the Centre and the state will work together in unearthing the entire case,” Prakash Mishra, special secretary for internal security in the Union home ministry, told the media after the meeting with Banerjee.
The NSA and his team also referred to the alleged links of a Rajya Sabha member from West Bengal with two Bangladeshi militant groups – JMB and Jamaat-e-Islami Bangladesh (JIB).
An NIA report says that the JMB, a shadowy organisation formed in 2005, has plans to establish an Islamic state encompassing Bangladesh and Murshidabad, Nadia and Malda districts of West Bengal.

A flechett round is a sub caliber round for a handheld weapon. Think of it as the AP sabot round for hand guns. The shot is so fine that it will pass through a kevlar vest as if it wasn't there. Causing nearly untreatable injury. As the shot will twist and deform.
IIRC, it is banned, for armed forces.

(Reuters) - India's top counter-terrorism agency has uncovered a suspected plot by a banned militant group to assassinate the prime minister of Bangladesh and carry out a coup, three senior Indian security officials told Reuters on Tuesday.
India will hand over a dossier to Bangladesh with details of the plan by members of the Jamaat-ul-Mujahideen, which has carried out scores of attacks in India's eastern neighbour, the government and police officials said.

You can broadly categorise an Islamist into 3 types.
1. Beginner - the one who is allowed to have his entitlement of upto 4 wives in this life.
2. Al Qaeda types - the one who has the above priviledge in this life but wants to reserve his 72 virgin ads for his afterlife.
3. IS type - the one who has the above 2 priviledges because he would have already beheaded an infidel but wants to own this infidel's wife, sister, daughter or all of them as his personal slave.
The crimes against humanity for the likes of you and me are legal and acceptable in an Islamic state. Islam is largely peaceful as long as infidel society lets him do his duties peacefully. Otherwise he is forced to join IS. Its all kuffer's fault.
