ARDE 5.56x45 mm CQB carbine. Looks good.
Re: Small Armaments & Infantry Equipment - News & Discussion
Pakistan Ordnance factory has presented a prototype of G3 based rifle in 7.62x51 that accepts AR10 magazines called BW20.
Honestly, I think it is a good strategy by POF. The core of the rifle is G3 roller delayed blowback which they have been making for 60 odd years. G3 was fairly modular rifle to begin with and in the long run proved to be superior to Fn FAL in terms of upgrade potential.
They intend to make 7.62x39 and 5.56x45 versions as well.
Ofcourse this is nothing new, POF has displayed G3 upgrades and AR10 rifles for several years but broke Pak army is not in a position to upgrade their rifles. Now they are looking for a Line of Credit from Czech republic to buy firearms, which given their economic state is unlikely to happen anytime soon.

Thakur_B that looks promising. Any more details. Does it address some of the design shortcomings of the INSAS.Thakur_B wrote:

Re: Small Armaments & Infantry Equipment - News & Discussion
Some DNA from Insas is still present, like the gas tube release behind upper hand guard instead of a fixed gas tube mechanism like Sig 550 series or the new AK12/15/19 series. This means the upper hand guard will have to be removed for cleaning the gas tube. Good luck retaining zero on upper hand guard after cleaning. Better solution would have been fixed gas tube with removable gas regulator plug. You would have had adjustable gas for suppression and adverse conditions and a better experience overall.ks_sachin wrote:Thakur_B that looks promising. Any more details. No wonder there is no confidence in OFB.

They are going to follow JVPC model with private sector manufacturing.

Sirji but what about design refinements?
The upper hand guard issue has been there since day dot but where is there the effort to fix these.

The actual new uniform is this.

Para SF with new standard camouflage on Army day.
New Camo has same old colours, but because of smaller patches, looks kind of washed out.
From the various pictures available, the new camouflage looks remarkably different in different lighting conditions. In white light, olive green and Greys pop up, in daylight / yellow light, the Browns pop up. Looks good for both arid and forest environment.

Re: Small Armaments & Infantry Equipment - News & Discussion
it is CQB weapon, CQB translate into less than 30 meters on average between two combatants, at this range JVPC pumping in 7.69mm lead at 800 rounds per minutes wins hand down, as for zero post maintenance still it is 5 rounds per cycle.Thakur_B wrote: Some DNA from Insas is still present, like the gas tube release behind upper hand guard instead of a fixed gas tube mechanism like Sig 550 series or the new AK12/15/19 series. I think in CQB Carbine, only back lower half of receiver will swing open. Butt is also attached to lower receiver.
The front portion of lower receiver and whole top receiver is single piece. Bolt & gas tube will slide out from backside when lower half of receiver is opened.
Something like SCAR or SIG 550 series. Hence sights, top receiver & barrel are rigidity attached unlike INSAS or AK. JVPC also is somewhat similar.

Re: Small Armaments & Infantry Equipment - News & Discussion
Actually, the new camo seems quite effective. From various pix I saw in the media showing groups of soldiers wearing the new camo uniforms, its quite hard to pick out contours of individuals - much better than previous camos. Sans contrasting mono colour berets, but wearing camo hats or combat helmets instead and some face paint, they'd be very hard to pick out. Like a herd of zebras.

Russia delivers all the contracted 70,000 AK-203 to India.
Russia has delivered to India all the contracted 70,000 AK-203 Kalashnikov assault rifles as envisaged under a contract signed late last summer between India and Kalashnikov.
The entire delivery was made earlier this week. A source explained, "delivery was fast tracked," pointing to the short time gap between the signing of the contract and its fructification.
The Indian Ministry of Defence intends to procure 670,000 AK-203 assault rifles, and the 70,000 delivered are part of that total.
The rest of the 600,000 will be manufactured in India's Amethi under a joint venture, the contract for which was signed on December 6, 2021.
The day saw the first India-Russia 2+2 meeting at the level of foreign and defence ministers, as well as Russian President Putin's visit to the annual summit in Delhi.

So 70k Ak-203 and around 140k Sigs have come in the last couple of years for a total ~2 lakh rifles.
Are these all heading to Northern Command or will they be spread out a little.. I'm sure the CI Operators in North East would also relish a chance to upgrade from INSAS

Wonder what IAF's plans are for these rifles , In addition to these 70k there seem to be a demand for another 140k which is far and above its current manpower even considering all Garud/Base Security etc
Re: Small Armaments & Infantry Equipment - News & Discussion
70K Sigs have been acquired. The follow on option for 70K additional rifles has not been finalized as yet as price negotiations have been "ongoing" for the past one year. It will take one year after conclusion of contract for the deliveries to be completed.AkshaySG wrote:So 70k Ak-203 and around 140k Sigs have come in the last couple of years for a total ~2 lakh rifles.

CRPF becomes the first customer for OFB R2 7.62x51 Assault Rifle.
Now it has a pronged muzzle device.
Also, the second order for SiG716 may never materialise.

Why does CRPF need 7.62x51 rifle? I'd assume that 7.62x39 would be pretty adequate for internal security and COIN needs ...

Did the Ordinance Factory Tiruchirapalli make a 7.62 X 51mm rifle? It would be interesting to find if they did and if there was a comparative trial of the TAR and OFB riles.
