Facebook allowing posts urging violence
CHANGE OF RULES: Internal Meta e-mails to moderators at Facebook and Instagram showed that the company would allow phrases such as ‘death to the Russian invaders’

Meta Platforms is to allow Facebook and Instagram users in some countries to call for violence against Russians and Russian soldiers in the context of the Ukraine invasion, internal e-mails showed, in a temporary change to its hate speech policy.

The social media company is also temporarily allowing some posts that call for death to Russian President Vladimir Putin or Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko, internal e-mails to its content moderators showed.

“As a result of the Russian invasion of Ukraine we have temporarily made allowances for forms of political expression that would normally violate our rules like violent speech such as ‘death to the Russian invaders.’ We still won’t allow credible calls for violence against Russian civilians,” a Meta spokesperson said in a statement.

How soon do we see similar rule change for any country standing up to western hegemony.

Rules once changed can change again.

These entities have to be blocked in India. No more delays.

This govt. either needs to bring the press under heel so they do not spread fake news 24/7 -- journalists openly spreading hate and being protected by the Judiciary. Until they do this, they are dependent on social media to spread their word, which is why they will not go against these SM companies any time soon. They would rather have individuals file court cases against rich american companies for some reason.

who in the govt. we think is capable of this? Definitely not the babus.

We so far seem to have (or had) "performing" ministers in some sectors. Eg: parrkiar for defense, goyal for railways, swaraj/jaishankar for mea, etc.

However, don't seem to have a good legal mind within that at least we all know of. There used to be jethmalani.. may be I am going out on a limb here but things would get interesting if a couple of folks like sai deepak and anand ranganathan are roped in as rajya sabha mps and given some responsibilities.

On Thursday afternoon, 30 top TikTok stars gathered on a Zoom call to receive key information about the war unfolding in Ukraine. National Security Council staffers and White House press secretary Jen Psaki briefed the influencers about the United States’ strategic goals in the region and answered questions on distributing aid to Ukrainians, working with NATO and how the United States would react to a Russian use of nuclear weapons.

As the crisis in Ukraine has escalated, millions have turned to TikTok for information on what is happening there in real time. TikTok videos offered some of the first glimpses of the Russian invasion and since then the platform has been a primary outlet for spreading news to the masses abroad. Ukrainian citizens hiding in bomb shelters or fleeing their homes have shared their stories to the platform, while dangerous misinformation and Russian propaganda have also spread. And TikTok stars, many with millions of followers, have increasingly sought to make sense of the crisis for their audiences.

The White House has been closely watching TikTok’s rise as a dominant news source, leading to its decision to approach a select group of the platform’s most influential names.

Jules Terpak, a Gen Z content creator who makes TikTok essays about digital culture, said the White House’s decision to engage creators such as she was essential in helping to stop the spread of misinformation. “Those who have an audience can ideally set the tone for how others decide to assess and amplify what they see online,” she said.

Within hours of the briefing’s conclusion, the influencers began blasting out messaging to their millions of followers. A video posted by Marcus DiPaola, a news creator on TikTok, offered key takeaways from the meeting in a video that has been viewed more than 300,000 times. Greene also posted a recap, adding his own critical analysis at the end, calling out the Biden administration for not “acknowledging its role in other occupations and invasions around the world

Some really good insights here; though we have make good inroads but lot more needs to be done

Plastic nationalism: Can India really shelve Visa and Mastercard for RuPay
India could opt for another solution: Nexus, which is the Bank for International Settlements’ blueprint for 24/7, real-time cross-border payments. The prototype, developed with the cooperation of NPCI and the Monetary Authority of Singapore, could link up the digital payment systems that exist in 60-plus nations — with room for more to join. Nexus won’t be another app. Rather, it could become the world wide web of payments, a set of rules any country can adopt.

When Singapore’s PayNow established the world’s first cross-country link with Thailand’s PromptPay last year, the arrangement enabled real-time fund transfers to mobile numbers in the other country. It doesn’t yet allow users to pay via QR code, which would make it merchant-friendly. But it shouldn’t be too hard to add this functionality in a multi-country setup.

In the long run, moving beyond plastic — and taking a more internationalist, open-network approach like Nexus — might be a more viable strategy than nationalism to wriggle out of the chokehold of the giant payment platforms. Many of the senior professionals in India’s policy circles are old enough to have carried credit cards that were valid only in India and Nepal. They may be wary of a Western-dominated globalized future, but they will not want to be pulled back to an insular past.

So three days after this thread was started:

Alec Ross: What Happens When Companies Get Involved in Geopolitics?
For day four of The Realignment's near-daily Ukraine coverage, Marshall speaks with return Realignment guest Alec Ross, author of The Raging 2020s: Companies, Country, People - and the Fight for Our Future and The Industries of the Future, joins The Realignment to discuss the factors and policies driving private sector companies into the geopolitical arena
Alec Ross (born November 30, 1971) is an American technology policy expert who was Senior Advisor for Innovation to Secretary of State Hillary Clinton for the duration of her term as Secretary of State.[1] After leaving the Department of State in 2013 he joined the School of International and Public Affairs, Columbia University as a Senior Fellow.[2] Ross is the author of the New York Times bestseller The Industries of the Future and The Raging 2020s: Companies, Countries, People – and the Fight for Our Future.[3][4][5] The Industries of the Future has been translated to twenty-four languages, and was named the 2016 Book of the Year by the TriBeCa Film Festival's Disruptive Innovation Foundation.[6][7][8] Ross was a Distinguished Visiting Fellow at Johns Hopkins University.[9][10] He is a distinguished visiting professor at the University of Bologna Business School.[11] He is also a Board Partner at Amplo, a global venture capital firm.[12]

The sheer arrogance of the Americans that they can control everything and anything is here to be seen.

Deutsche Bank has now ceased Russian Operations following the likes of Goldman Sachs and JP Morgan.

This is beyond just "woke" corporations virtue signaling... These banks have no issues dealing with the worst of the worst and exploiting whatever they can in the pursuit of profits. But even they have been made to toe the line on current sanctions.

This should tell us, that it's not just about Ukraine. It's about preservation of western dominated global order.

Don't believe that is a secret. Domination of the global order is the stated policy goal for the expansion of NATO to the ex-soviet states (Starting with Carter's State Dept).

Up in context of the discussion on the NSS.

Because NSS goes beyond the military dimension in India.

It has to be seen in context of trade and commerce in addition to military capacity of the country.
