Re: Women in Combat
Question of misogyny only came in because some posters went absolutely nuclear on seeing a rather simple image of a few women commandos practicing .rohitvats wrote:Why are you attributing misogyny to stifle a debate on an important topic? Women have earned their place in the Armed Forces. No more on this on the forum.
Is a debate about the place women have in combat and any deficiencies they have as compared to men misogynistic ...No
Is jumping to terms like "woke disease ","impotency" "weak willed men"," special privilges " etc on just seeing female operatives misogynistic ..imo Yes
If its an important debate about a complex issue (which it is ) then lets have it with facts and ground realities rather than with labels or else we're no different than Twitter .
As far as this particular topic goes then I think we're all well aware of the physical problems that women face as compared men but there is a massive amount of roles (even in SF and R&AW) which aren't dependent on power but rather analytics, decision making ,surveillance ,piloting , operating advanced machinery etc etc for which women can be easily used if well trained .

If one has not actually had the experience of serving with women in an operational unit, or hearing form those who have, comments on women in the forces (both positive and negative) tend to be misplaced.
I think there are basic points that have been overlooked in this debate:
When we talk of women in the forces, why is it invariably about officers only. I wish those who want more roles for women in TV studios are prepared to do what women jawans in the BSF or Assam rifles do in an operational roles. Their experience should the the basis for deciding
how women deal with combat like situations, except that lady officers have to display higher standards than the OR's they wish to command.
In the West or Israel, which tend to become the benchmark by which we are expected to induct women, women serve for short periods (like their
male counterparts). Very few stay beyond marriage and a child. Their roles are far more tech intensive and less physically demanding than what their IA counterparts have to face. Many men in western armies will for e.g. not be able to undertake a lengthy patrol at high altitude. In actual combat roles, women soldiers in the West have been found wanting (e.g. US in Iraq, or IDF in Urban counter insurgency).

When it is a staged show, like this news bit, the best kit will come out. But that said, their proficiency seems to indicate rigorous training across multiple types of rifles and guns.

Re: Women in Combat
Anyone have latest figures on personnel shortages in the IA, IN, IAF and other police and paramilitary groups?
I’ve always heard of shortages in officers in the IA and pilots in the IAF. Most populated country of over billion people but still shortages in filling military vacancies - a very tiny fraction of its massive population.
