Re: Aero India 2009
Wow, thats great news. But if Kaveri is never going to power the LCA, why integrate it?
Re: Aero India 2009
To develop tech... as also for CAT and LIFT.
will provide more info. suffice to say, GTRE is not really the villain here, but they are definitely smarting from the accusations. Felt sad for them really.
incidentally, Railways also wants teh Kaveri - 8 MW

Re: Aero India 2009
To all you lucky folks at Aero India: How many Mi-35's are there for static/flying display? Could you confirm if any/all have their IR supressors. The one in the pic seems to be missing it.
Re: Aero India 2009
k prasad please do a memory dump somewhere and then post it at leisure
Wish someone had their might zooms to get closeups of the SF\para slithereing as well as any Garuds around.
Don't forget the grunts

well dont .. because they deserve the reputationk prasad wrote:T GTRE is not really the villain here, but they are definitely smarting from the accusations. Felt sad for them really.
Re: Aero India 2009
Well there is no explicit mention of it. So the word "never" may be too strong - "not is the next decade" is more appropriateSaiK wrote:what is your source?
1. First batches getting GE-404IN - No kaveri here
2. The later squardrons are going for a foreign engine - again no Kaveri
3. Reasons - IAF wants a more powerful engine NOW (2009), they have reservations against snecma helping the Kaveri (possibly helping it achieve flight-worthiness in next 3-5 years, which I presume is faster than if DRDO/GTRE doing it alone).
4. Kaveri was never planned to be a 100kN engine (unless GTRE has some concrete designs for the higher thrust MCA specific model). Since too much weight reduction cannot be expected on the LCA, and since it has been decoupled from Kaveri development, fair to say they wont be recoupled (unless there are fresh US sanctions etc which stop us from importing Ge414 or EJ200)
I know this doesn't belong in this thread, but just trying to answer the question.
** I wont say Kaveri is a failure by any means. But it doesnt fit LCA anymore.
Re: Aero India 2009
pyogi, loved your snap of LCA in action. One of the best snaps of LCA in the air. The Saras snap was also lovely. Hoping for more such snaps of desi maal

Re: Aero India 2009
kailash, in my understanding all those ddm points to the later squadrons being from squadron 3 onwards. onlee first couple of squadrons will court 414s. the 404-in version will be onlee for the initial TDs, PVs, and LSPs.. and mostly the trainers as well. the earlier, IAF sees the 414s in Tejas, is what they are looking at. 2 years time.

Re: Aero India 2009
That's the lone Mi-35 for static display. IR suppressor, i think is removable. Though it's the upgraded variant, IR suppressor has been removed for some reason. To all you lucky folks at Aero India: How many Mi-35's are there for static/flying display? The show is getting bigger and better
The normally impregnable IAF base, some 30 km to the north of Bangalore, is on an alert level that is two to three times that for the 2007 event. The Ministry of Defence, which organises the two-yearly show, has deployed 140 CCTVs, almost five times that in 2007; 330 defence personnel, three BSF platoons, a Garud special team and 180 security personnel, apart from eight baggage screening machines. For the first time, entry passes are by RFID.
Aero India 2009 has grown to be bigger and better in two years and has come to be a major air show in the region, Mr Kumar said. From 7,000 sqm in 1998 and 30,000 sq.m in 2007, the exhibition space is 44,000 sq.m this time. There are 289 Indian exhibitors and 303 from overseas. Six countries have their own pavilions.
US to Participate in Aero India '09
HICKAM AIR FORCE BASE, Hawaii - The United States military will be represented at the Aero India 09 air show at Air Force Station Yelahanka in Bangalore, India, Feb. 11 to 15.
A cross-section of U.S. military aircraft and equipment will be present, including the C-17 Globemaster III, C-130J Hercules, F-16 Fighting Falcon, KC-135 Stratotanker, F/A-18 Hornet and Eagle Vision Ground Satellite System.
Bangalore air show gets unprecedented security cover
An unprecedented three-tier security ring, including special commandos, has been thrown around Yelahanka Air Force Station, the venue of the air show in Bangalore.
"Security has been a major concern in the (current) environment", Defence Production Secretary Pradeep Kumar said a day before the commencement of the five-day air show, Aero India. He said the Defence Ministry, which is organising the show, has worked along with the Ministry of Home Affairs, Karnataka government and local police and tried to enhance the security significantly.
Pradeep Kumar said there would be three tiers of security -- outer, middle and inner. The number of CCTVs have been increased to 140 this time, compared with 30 in the last edition of the show in 2007.
X-ray machines to check baggage had been increased to eight from two in the last air show. Radio frequency identity cards have been introduced for the first time.
Personnel from Defence Security Force, three platoons of CRPF, and special commandos have been deployed. "The effort is to have a fool-proof system", he added

Re: Aero India 2009
From my personal experience no matter how hard I tried Tejas and IJT/Sitara are always very-very difficult to get a perfect camera shot. Any one who gets more than 1 fluke good shot indeed must be person who is one with a very good camera (like a good pilot is one who is one with the aircraft he is flying). These 2 planes are small and they move very fast. I once tried putting my camera on fixed manual focus in the hope that camera's auto focus delay will not miss the split second image, and also tries multi-shot settings to bell the cat, always with mixed results.rahuldevnath wrote:RahulD,
One request...
A photo of Tejas in the air with the "Tejas" paintwork clearly visible.. please.. pleasee.. please.Unfortunately LCA is always too swift, fast and small and too high!
Keep it up Rahul Devnath dude.

Is IAF Phalcon expected to make debut public appearance during AI-09??
Thought IAF would display them on 26th Republic Day Celebrations....

RahulD,
Do you have any any walk-around pics of the Tejas?? The flying shots are just awesome

Re: Phalcon @ Republic day
vinzsagar,
For Republic Day, the plan was to showcase the Phalcon as a scaled-down model, and it was indeed shown as such.

Kailash wrote:Wow, thats great news. But if Kaveri is never going to power the LCA, why integrate it?
India's biggest hurdles have been the need to get a new airframe and develop a new power plant (engine) and integrate the two. Existing Aerospace companies got over that hurdle by the middle of the 20th century because the earliest planes in the world were new, with new engines. After aero industries were established new engines could be tested on exiting airframes.
It was exactly this double hurdle (new airframe/new engine) that killed the HF 24
the same thing is happening again for the LCA but hopefully lessons have been learnt. So if we getthe LCA into service with an existing (firangi) engine - the airframe gets proven. Once th airframe is proven it can e used to test a new engine - assuming the Kaveri or some variant needs to be tested. So it is essential to perform the integration.
If we can achieve the double trick of having our own engine and airframe flying - the next step gets easier. The existing proven) engine can be used on a new airframe - such as a new trainer or other aircraft.

Any good pics of Garuds?

Re: Aero India 2009
well prasad has told me lot of stuff on phone, but lets just say he has the notes and the numbers. Since he has attended the seminar, there will be a few things that he noted but didnt tell me in a hurry. So please be patient and bear with prasad and excuse me from posting it. I think it is his right to post this stuff, since he has gathered the info first hand.
meanwhile I will keep myself happy by thinking I knew it a few minutes earlier than you ppl. Sehwag/Gilly style.

Thank you very much for all the photos and info

Re: Aero India 2009
Guys, please take both complete shots and close ups of the naval consoles that BEL should be displaying. Pictures and data boards/ brochures of anything naval such as Revati radar, EO systems, sonars, UAV, comms, missiles, etc would be appreciated. There should be a lot of desi stuff on hand so please be sure to visit these stalls and gather info.

Antonov Design Bureau to present new multipurpose An-74 at AeroIndia-2009
Antonov Design Bureau will present a program for the new An-74 multipurpose patrol aircraft at AeroIndia-2009 Airshow, which will take place in Bengaluru on Feb. 11-15.
During the exhibition, Ukraine and India are to discuss both the existing and new sectors of cooperation in aerospace industry, Interfax-Ukraine learned at Antonov Design Bureau's press service.
The modernized An-74 multipurpose aircraft is currently taking part at an international tender on aircraft supply to India's coast guard.
Ukraine is participating in the tender in cooperation with Sweden, Germany and India. The European Aeronautic Defense and Space Company (EADS), Israel, Canada and Russia are taking part in the tender as well.
Apart from this, the Antonov Design Bureau and the French company Thales jointly presented a modernized version of An-74 plane at a tender to supply patrol planes to the Indian navy.
According to the source, the results of both tenders may be announced in the middle of 2009.
The overall volume of An-74 supplies to Indian defense structures may exceed 20 aircraft.

EUROJET`S EJ200 at Aero India Air Show 2009
Hallbergmoos and Bangalore (ANTARA News/PRNewswire-AsiaNet) - EUROJET Turbo GmbH, the leading European military engine consortium, will be exhibiting the EJ200 engine at the Aero India Air Show 2009. Visitors to the Eurofighter stand (Hall C, No. 7) will have the opportunity to view the advanced technology of the EJ200 engine, which powers the Eurofighter Typhoon, and take a look inside the engine through an interactive engine monitor.
The EJ200 is also a potential alternative powerplant for the Indian Light Combat Aircraft (LCA). An exhaustive feasibility study was conducted by the Indian Aeronautical Development Agency (ADA) in 2008, in which the suitability of the EJ200 engine for the Indian Light Combat Aircraft was confirmed and EUROJET was selected to be a recipient of the respective Request for Proposal (RFP) for the LCA. EUROJET is now in anticipation of this RFP to offer the EJ200 for the LCA.
